Obamedia Drool Bucket Award

By Michelle Malkin  •  February 24, 2009 11:31 PM

And the bucket goes to…Ron Fournier of the Associated Press for this overflowing, slobbering prose:

Analysis: Obama address renews audacity to hope

By RON FOURNIER – 46 minutes ago

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama gave America the audacity to hope again.

After describing the U.S. economy in nearly apocalyptic terms for weeks, pushing his $787 billion stimulus plan through Congress, the president used his address to Congress on Tuesday night to tap the deep well of American optimism — the never-say-die spirit that every president tries to capture in words. And great presidents embody.

I just don’t get talking about what others are talking about. Yeah, there are those out there that will drool, but that does not address the message, it addresses the messengers.

Even a quick open thread asking, “So, what did you think of Obama’s speach?” would have started a fairly good discussion.

And, now I am guilty of complaining about messengers. But, there was no other way of saying it.

Democrats have talked about “taking care” of vets for years, but the only “taking care” that ever happened was the Sinclair Act (keeps vets from suing VA doctors for malpractice,) ensuring that veterans can’t get decent legal aid in their lawsuits for comp, lousy doctors, and facillities that are very expensive and luxurious for the administrators who work in them but nasty and disgusting for the patients who are seen in them. Democrats also consistently raise spending in every single area..and usually do so by cutting defense to the bone. It’s not just ‘rats like murtha, it’s the whole mindset amongst the left, which probably explains why the lions’ share of the military vote leans right. We’ve been deserted at home and abroad by democrats so many times, over so many years, that ANY democrat saying he/she will “take care of veterans” is usually met with sarcastic laughter. Adding insult to injury is msm, with people like Fourier; how that schmuck has any cloth left in the knees of his pants is beyond me. I guess what offends me even more than that is I’d bet my last nickel Mr. Fournier knows damned well precisely what “dear leader” proposes, yet doesn’t report that, because he’d be out of a job and it would be against his instincts, which are to protect the obummer administration at any cost.

The new comparison going around now seems to be comparing Obama to FDR. This is frustrating on two levels: 1) many who believe that FDR was one of the greatest presidents are going to rationalize ways they are alike and sing his praise; and 2) the few who see FDR as an awful president on domestic and economic issues actually fear that Obama will be exactly like him.

I’m not sure which is worse: the perpetuation of the FDR myth or the continued sanctification of an untried and unproven president. In the end, they’re both problematic in that they reinforce the worst aspects of faith in government and likely acceptance of wrong-headed policy.

Combine this with the continuing misguided attacks on the free-market (which should be attacks on a government-meddled market, that is certainly not free to let market forces do their thing) and we are in for a publicly acceptable expansion of government and a leap ever leftward on economic policy.

If this continues, we’ll either have to adopt ridiculously protectionist trade and monetary policy such as China does (only prolonging the inevitable) or we’ll collapse in a cloud of dust like the Soviet Union, leaving the country to be rebuilt by various groups of organized crime (i.e., mafia, labor unions, ACORN, and the Kennedy family.) Oh happy day!

Not a good idea. the Iranian people are good people. It is the “leadership” over there that sucks. Don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater. Kill the leaders, but leave the population alone. Those people love America. We have to stop threatening to nuke them all.

Dow tanking again in response to that inspirational speech last night. Every time he opens his mouth Dow loses 3%. Then, like yesterday, they send out damage control and it recovers part of the losses. I’m thinking of developing a trading strategy based on Dear Leader’s speaking schedule. Unfortunately, it would also have to take into account speeches by Biden, Pelosi, Reid, Schumer and all the other Dem loose cannons. Maybe better to just invest in dried foods and ammo.

Speaking of ammo (a bit off topic), anybody know why all of a sudden ammo prices have almost doubled in the last month, and the WalMart shelves are nearly empty? They have plenty of guns, but the ammo is what’s concerning me. I know folks are stocking up, but that doesn’t explain the drastic price hike.

It seems like every day we find out more and more about what is actually in the Reparations Bill. Now we find out that Union construction workers will get the first crack at the jobs. Never mind that over 90% of the construction workers are NON-union. Obama wants to repay his homeys in the union, at the expense of the country. How much more do you think it will cost because of union workers? I also just heard that after the plane crash in Turkey, the helpers had to park a ways away from the crash and wait for Union help before they could go and help those poor victims. Not sure if that is true, but it would typify the union philosophy of “you have to have a union member pour the coffee at $50.00 a minute…don’t you dare pour it yourself”.

Yep. Plus some of the companies making new ammo are using extra shifts at the plants, which means overtime pay rates.

It is not just normal stocking up, it is panic buying. All the talk from the anti-gun folks in or near power – micro-stamping, news taxes, bans – are making gun owners worried. Then you add fears of the increased need to protect one’s family oneself and, for some, being ready to hunt for food, and you see why demand is sky high.

Off topic a bit…I just got this in an e-mail. Not sure who wrote it.

    Let’s Recap–

    1. The American people elect a black president with a total of 42 days experience as a U S Senator from the most politically corrupt state in. The President’s first official act is to close Gitmo and make sure terrorists’ civil rights are not violated.

    2. The U.S.Congress rushes to confirm a black Attorney General, Eric Holder, whose law firm we later find out represents seventeen Gitmo Terrorists.

    3. The CIA Boss, Leon Panetta with absolutely no experience, has a daughter Linda we find out, who is a true radical anti-American activist and
a supporter of all the Anti-American regimes in the western hemisphere.

    4. We got the most corrupt female in America as Secretary of State; bought and paid for.

    5. We got a Tax Cheat for Treasury Secretary who files his own taxes.

    6. A Commerce Secretary nominee who withdrew due to corruption charges.

    7. A Tax cheat nominee for Chief Performance Officer who withdrew under charges.

    8. A Labor Secy nominee who withdrew under charges of unethical conduct.

    9. A Secy HHS nominee who withdrew under charges of cheating on his taxes.

And that’s just the first two weeks. . . but who’s counting.

America is being run by the modern-day Three Stooges ~ Barrack, Nancy , and Harry ~ and they are still trying to define stimulus.

Agreed. There was something to the speed and early nature of her leaps that somehow lowered the decorum of the event. It might be nitpicking, but it seemed as though she turned an official address into a high school pep rally.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama gave America the audacity to hope again.

This calls to mind what the party faithful in Berlin must’ve sounded like in 1945, looking wild-eyed and exclaiming “Germany vill vin ze var!!” after listening to some stem-winder broadcast from the Fuhrer Bunker.

It also reminds me of just how thoroughly dishonest the Japanese government and its state media were to the Japanese people during the same time frame — blowing smoke up their butts with such relentlessness that a lot of Japanese thought Japan was winning right up until the Emperor’s surrender speech.

So it’ll be with Ron Fournier on that sinking ship known as the SS Hopenchange. Singing “Obama, Obama, Uber Alles” right up to the moment when the waves close over him.

Somehow, I won’t be surprised if this results in the following boot-strapping exercise: our 30-year old F-15Cs, many of which are grounded after some of them began breaking apart in flight due to metal fatigue, are “weapons we don’t use” that we “need to get rid of.”

And they won’t be replaced by more F-22As or F-35As. Instead, we’ll be treated to an encore of what logistics officers and supply sergeants were saying through the Jimmy Carter “hollow military” years:

    We don’t have it;
    We can’t get it;
    You don’t need it.

The Defense Department over the next 4 years of Hope-a-Dope is going to revert to what it has always been during donkey regimes:

    1. A social experimentation playground; and
    2. A piggy-bank for social programs.

After all, in the Era of Hopenchange, there’s no problem that we can’t talk our way out of, or that can’t be solved by America walking away….

    Jangar,

Ammo prices over the summer started going up. The reason was the wars and the cost of metals. Now our local gun dealer says the primers(which cannot be reproduced by self loaders) and the powder are becoming scarce. I think the administration is looking into how to stop gun onwership or pull the teeth of gun ownership. If there is no powder then guns are useless. He said he wouldn’t take away gun ownership.. BUT bullets is another story. I have stashed away enough for the 2nd revolution or wne ideologies clash intto violence or when ACORN comes and tries to take my house. The bit on making the interstates the same as national parks and the coding of ammo is all myth. The primer thing is real.

You’re going to have to do better than Charles Krauthammer, although I get that you’re being coy since he’s attributed with having coined the term “Bush Derangement Syndrome”.

Many here have already commented on the fact that Obama can perform well when reading from a teleprompter. However, I doubt that Charles would say that Obama is in a “Reagan-esque” league when dealing with questions.

We have yet to see about Obama’s actions backing up his words as well. Perhaps he’ll get around to paying his own bills in the near future?
