Gasp: DHS Secretary alarmed that immigration laws enforced under her watch
Oh, the open-borders crowd’s heads are exploding.
Under President Obama and DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano’s watch, federal immigration agents had the nerve to — gasp! — enforce immigration laws.
How could this happen? Quick, launch an investigation! This must not be allowed to stand!
Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano on Wednesday ordered a review of a raid at an engine plant in Washington State that resulted in the arrests of 28 people suspected of being illegal immigrants.
A high-level official in the Department of Homeland Security said that Ms. Napolitano had not been informed about the raid on Tuesday before it happened, and that she was seeking details about its planning and scope.
“She was not happy about it because it’s inconsistent with her position, and the president’s position on these matters,” said the official, who agreed to discuss the matter on condition of anonymity because the secretary had not authorized the conversation.
You can be sure the taxpayer-funded National Council of Raza will use all the earmark money it will be receiving to lobby aggressively for comprehensive shamnesty:
The National Council of La Raza urged supporters to call the White House and demand Mr. Obama lay out his immigration policy, while the National Immigration Forum said the raid was an unwelcome continuation of Bush administration policies.
“What are Latino and immigrant voters to think? They turn out in massive numbers and vote for change and yet ‘change we can believe in’ turns out to be ‘business as usual,’ ” said Ali Noorani, executive director of the forum.
He called for a halt to the raids while Homeland Security conducts its review of immigration policies.
As for the poor, innocent workers nabbed in the raid, guess what? The raid was the result of a gang investigation:
“Information derived from two gang members previously arrested in an ICE gang operation led to the initiation of the work-site investigation at Yamato Engine Specialists,” said press secretary Kelly Nantel. “Follow-up investigation uncovered a potentially large number of illegally employed workers. ICE conducted the operation in order to identify and if appropriate, apprehend any unauthorized workers and to further determine potential criminal activity.”
Homeland Security officials worried about gang and criminal activity?
This must not stand!

Um, when I worked for Ronald Reagan back in the 1980s, 100% of my income was from the US Government.
10%? I say if ANY ammount is from the government.
If you don’t pay taxes you shouldn’t vote.
Furthermore, there should be some form of basic test of intelligence. Granted, it would be hard to implement such a test but I think it should be something like a GED equivalency at the very least.
Ed:
Right of course, government salaries are to be considered salary. We are obviously talking about handouts. Of course you know that though.
So, she is not happy with upholding federal law?
The only silver lining, if it can be called that, is that it will eventually get so bad that even the scumbag enablers like this joke of an official will feel the bite.
It will be too late to really matter by then of course, if it isn’t already, but hey, schadenfreude seems to be all one has anymore.
Sorry guys,
I don’t believe in suppressing any legal vote regardless of their income from the government. There were a few years in which my disability medical retirement from the military would have put me in your criteria as a non-voter.
If you want people to agree to your side, then get out there and convince your neighbors and others. No coercion…just logical arguments. Grassroots movements still can work against the status quo and in-the-tank MSM. This could include forcing your local officials to maintain better voter registration rolls.
Literacy tests were used after the Civil War to prevent former slaves from voting. Turned out to be not such a good idea. There is an ammendment banning them.
Anyhow, if introduced now, the test would be crafted by our luny lawmakers. It would likely prevent literate folks from voting. If you can take the test, you fail.
You’d exclude the guy who lost his job and was out of work for a month. Ten percent would weed out the slackers, but include those who benefit from the original intent of the system and contribute to its funding.
In a perfect world, unionized government workers shouldn’t be allowed to vote.
Yes, in a perfect world, only tax payers would be eligible to vote. Forget who it was that said when the populace realizes it can vote itself money from the public purse, democracy will fail.
But it is completely utopian to think, especially with Obama pushing hard to get fully half the country on the dole, sponging off the other half of us who are productive, that the people would ever vote that way (or their representatives), and we still have Carter appointed judges polluting our Federal courts, just wait until Obama appoints as many Alinsky disciples as he can to the benches.
We have JFK to thank for the executive order that allowed it in the first place.
Heh. LGM never disappoints. I read this and pondered, “Hmm, just how lockstep is LGM with Obama? Surely he has to disagree with The Glorious One on something as obvious as this?”
Nope. Not even this.
With the exception of (possibly) Major League Baseball players, there is no group that needs union protection less than Federal employees.
Asking a Federal Presidential appointee to uphold the law and remain faithful to their oath is setting the bar pretty high don’t you think Michelle?
I think you are being a bit idealistic and harsh here.
/sarc
Anymore.
We bought it. It was a piece of undeveloped crap when we bought it–a few missions and lots of unirrigated land (1848) to go with about 6000 Mexican families on a half-million square miles…
We bought it for bargain basement prices ($18.25M). Mexico would’ve had double that cash had they taken the offer before the war. Instead, the arrogant Lopez de Santa Anna misjudged his abilities after Goliad and the Alamo and lost at San Jacinto…lost Texas, and eventually, Mexico would lose bigger-time to the US volunteers.
There is no “Aztlan.” There is not “si, se puede.” Get over it. Basta ya…las fronteras ya se han establecido.
And if those druglords continue to encroach on our borders, I do believe the National Guard will have something to say about it…I wonder if the Sonora Cartel has any M1 Abrams tanks in their armory?
Good points all.
I still stand by my assertions (and I realize they will likely never be implemented). I might need to modify my ideas a bit by I can’t help but feel that (in addition to felons) the following people should not be allowed to vote:
Extremely uneducated and / or mentally deficient individuals.
Chronic ne’er do wells and welfare cases.
cabrerski:
Actually, I should qualify or correct that to be more accurate. More correct, would be to say: ‘A majority of Americans that voted, voted for
Obama. He did not gain the vote of a majority of Americans.
305,900,000 US Pop (as of 2/27/09)
66.9 million voted for Obama
58.3 million voted for McCain
(eg. rougly 67 million vs. 58 million out of the entire US population; and…
a significant ‘chunk’ of the population is <18 and cannot vote, and there are still others that aren’t registered and, …even some that are registered do not vote, etc.)
http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/
http://www.census.gov/main/www/popclock.html
And, given the rather lax ID / documentation requirements in voting (as implemented at the local level by many elections departments…), do we really know that those who voted were ONLY Americans? (If there is no systematic auditing in place to verify the citizenship and legitimacy of EVERY voter, how would we know? – eg. we don’t know what we don’t know…).
I agree!! there would be no democrat voters then..
zeroangel –
…”deficient”? According to, … whom?
Before Hitler engaged in his mass ethnic genocide in WWII, he first tested his destruction machinery on the disabled, the ‘mentally deficient’, ’social deviants’, etc. Congratulations, you and he would appear to have something in common.
under OBAMA??? what are YOU smoking??
PhredE:
Oh please. I’m not advocating putting Down’s syndrome children in furnaces.
Let’s not be frivolous here.
We used test of intelligence for so many things in our society. There are plenty of objective tests of what should constitute a GED or what colleges deserve accreditation.
No doubt it will be very hard to come up with something everyone can agree is a simple test. But I really don’t think (as an example) that someone who believes George Washington freed the slaves and was from outer space should have an “equal” say.
True, one could argue that in our capitalist system, such a fool likely DOES not have equal influence and that it is already built into the system.
I am still skeptical ESPECIALLY with instances of voter fraud.
Exactly right, Cabrerski! Obama mislead his way to victory by not revealing his true beliefs and, with the media’s help, by denying the detailed efforts of critics who accurately defined him. Now we have to huddle through the next four years as best we can, the price we pay for being inattentive and seeking any port in a financial storm.
In my perfect world, there would not be enough government workers to affect that much of the electorate.
I have to disagree…most people voted for obama because they know just what he’s all about…taking from someone else and giving to them…
its all about greed…
So you’re willing to deny an American citizen a right to vote because YOU don’t think they’re ’smart enough’…?
What does that mean???
What is ’smart enough’?
Who will decide?
Who will measure ‘intelligence’?
What rights will those that don’t measure up [...to your standards] have, and who will protect them?
Sorry, no takers here. I don’t want to live in your version of democracy or a Representative Republic.
simple, if they EVER voted democRAT then they lose the right to vote!!
its obvious they’re uneducated, easily led, and are developmentally challenged…
PhredE #112
I stand corrected, I meant of those that voted, of course.
cabrerski, No problem. I kinda figured that’s where you were coming from in the above. …Just wanted to layout some basic numbers to help show the magnitude of US voting patterns overall.
“It’s all good”.
PhredE:
Fair enough but please don’t distort what I am saying.
I am not saying that *I* am going to be the arbitrator of who votes or not. I am saying that a standardized test designed by the effort of many different, educated people will. Like I said, we use tests for many things.
Who currently protects the rights of felons? Who currently protects the rights or interests of people who cannot do the same for themselves because of severe handicap?
People in general are decent and the voting public will protect the rest.
OK, agree to disagree.
zeroangel – Agree to disagree.
Again, this is the basic problem:
“So you’re willing to deny an American citizen a right to vote because they’re not ’smart enough’…?
Even “dumb” people have a right to vote – you may not like it, but it was written into law for a reason…
“There are some ideas so wrong that only a very intelligent person could believe in them.”
-G. Orwell
The founding fathers would probably disagree (and yes I know they also had some other wacky ideas, like slavery).
I wouldn’t trust a raging imbecile or mentally unstable individual to drive a car and since we have tests for driver’s licenses the state seems to agree.
If I can’t trust them to drive a car, why should I trust that they should have a voice in how the country should be run or who should run it?
Why do we even have a government anymore?
If they are going to screw us, not follow the laws, not enforce the laws, not enforce the borders… then we do we even exist anyway?
So what are we trying to salvage? Everything we had is being lost and there is nothing to look forward to…
Oh well, 50 years or less and counting. And then I wont care – no matter what.
(BTW, minor point: Tempus is neuter, so it would be (O Tempora!…!) (#8)
Thanks, Granite. Sorry for the error; it’s been a while since my Latin classes. And my best reference is in some box somewhere.
so people like Obama can exercise POWER over YOUR life…
Phred and Zero,
If part of the populace does not agree with your politics, engage them in discussions and teach them what you believe. If you are convincing, great. If not, then allow them the opportunity to agree to disagree. It’s supposed to be a Democracy. If one side practices voter suppression, it is not ok for the other side to do so as well. This is what got us here in the first place.
The responsibility for maintaining this country’s greatness begins at every citizen’s doorstep.
Napolitano was on the side of the illegals when she was governor of Arizona. She belongs to the McCain school of border security. The voters passed a proposition to deny state benefits to illegals. She resisted implementing it. She sent the National Guard to the border when she ran for re-election, but they weren’t allowed to do anything. She is a perfect DHS Secretary for Obamessiah.
You dont deny them the right the to vote. Instead, You would come up with a process that nullifies their vote.
Ever hear of the Electoral College?
(theres a reason is not called the Electoral Barack Obama Charter School for the Disadvantaged)
Cabrerski:
I am not talking about voter suppression based on their ideas. Some of the smartest people in academia (as an example) would likely disagree with my views on the War against Islamic fundamentalists.
I am talking about trying to weed out those voters (from any side of the aisle) that can not conceive of very issues they are voting on because they are ragingly stupid. All that would require is for them to educate themselves.

From my cold, dead hands.
Zero,
Ok, I’m hip.
Unfortunately, I have not found a practical solution to legislate against terminal stupidity. We just have to work on those that have some hope.
cabrerski:
LOL.
“The responsibility for maintaining this country’s greatness begins at every citizen’s doorstep.”
Yes but there-in lies the problem you see. A large number of our fellow citizens define “greatness” as the degree to which I don’t have to work, don’t have to be responsible, and someone else as in the “government” will take care of me. So the MORE the government does, the less I do, the more “great” there is in “greatness”.
I’m pretty sure all the leftist who want socialism would say the totally agree with you.
Our freakin’ government is more concerned with protecting criminals than it is us as legal citizens.
Obama’s bizaro world. Right is wrong. Down is up. If you are a criminal, don’t work and don’t contribute to society you are better off than those that do.
It never stops!
I’m confused. What is “inconsistent” with the raid?
These megalomaniacs swore an oath to protect and defend the United States…one does that by enforcing Her laws, and by abiding by the constitution. Not to do so are grounds for impeachment and removal from office. I’m not so sure there is not a violation of law here, also.
When will we find a leader that honestly wants what’s best for America? It certainly looks like the American citizenry got the shaft, while Obama took the elevator to the top…at our expense.
js…
The way to make your argument win is to make it more appealing. As ZeroAngel and I agreed, there is no hope for some. However, hunkering down in the bunker will not add members to your side if you do not engage them.
As for me, I am a born-again capitalist and a fiscal conservative. I believe devoutly in less government. I work hard at convincing people to my side. Doesn’t always work, but I think I have gained more than lost. We need everyone to engage and not let the be-all and end-all of information to lie with the MSM.
Just remember, some of the intellects you work with are so small, you may have to release them after the catch.

PhredE said (#112):
And you think people who complain about Florica 2000 are weird.
lgm – I made no reference to Florida (or voting in Florida in 2000) in my above statements. …Just a point of clarification/correction.
My beef in this thread is in using ‘intelligence tests’ in order to determine voter eligibility. To do such thing, would require a new law in order to rescind an existing right to a US citizen.
Not to start a war here, but the is no constitutional right to vote in federal elections.
Also, for your benefit, I am not a Republican, nor am I a Democrat.
I do not align myself ideologically with either group – necessarily – , but I vote according to the issue at hand.
LGM,
You will note that virtually every news analyst said that Obama and McCain’s immigration positions were indistinguishable. If McCain had run and had a track record that fit the conservative position, he would have been better off. Why vote for a quasi-Democrat when you can vote for a real one?
Second, your attitude on this subject is VERY disturbing and is indicative of why immigration and a couple dozen other things are screwed up right now.
All elected officials including our Dear Leader are OBLIGATED to follow and ENFORCE the laws of this country that your elected representatives passed, whether they like it or not. Those who do not should be recalled or impeached without mercy, Left or Right.
You dislike the current immigration laws. I agree they need to be changed but not in a way you would prefer. However, the solution is not to have either Left or Right ignore the law, because that just causes the problem to be swept under the rug to fester. We need to debate it out and change the law, if needed, but before, during, and after that process takes place, those who took an oath to do so, MUST enforce the laws.
Free nations are based on the rule of law. We ignore any law at our own peril. Enforcing the law is the best way to expose bad law and force a change. Ms. Napalitano’s refusal to inforce the law is as unacceptable as an Attorney General who would refuse to inforce existing Federal gun laws.
Elections put you into a public service role, they do not make you abosolute ruler of your realm.
Hah. This is like saying that prosecuting people for burglary is inconsistent with Napoleon and Obummer’s positions, and therefore, all proceedings involving the prosecution of burglars will be investigated. IT’S THE LAW, YOU BUFFONS! It supercedes your own interests, and it will be enforced no matter how you feel about it, regardless of your position in government!
Need more proof for intelligence tests?
Florica is not a word and the ones complaining were the liberals like you so, yes, you are weird.
Self pwned again?
For those that are NumbersUSA members… Roy Beck has a story on this raid here and, as always, you can go to your Action Buffet and send Sec. Napolitano and Pres. Obama a Fax and let them know you how feel –
http://www.NumbersUSA.com/actionbuffet
Out. I am done here.
Its going to get worse. The SCOTUS is considering giving a pass to illegals who use someone else’s ID because “they just so happen to PICK a number out of the air that belongs to someone else”–John Roberts, Chief Justice. Bush’s own pick and idea of a strict Constitutionalist judge.
rriiiggghhhttttttttt…………
Well, then first you head out to Sports Authority to pick up a Mossburg .12 gauge shotgun. They are inexpensive and good enough to be carried in most police cruisers.
Next you need at least one handgun. While we can debate endlessly as to what is best, it will ultimately come down to price and weight. Might I recommend one of these:
Ruger 9mm for it’s ruggedness. Never jams.
S&W .40 cal…just like the C.H.P.
Or a nice compromise of a .357 revolver. Strong enough for a man, but can shoot .38 ccal shells as well so as not to break the delicate wrist of a nun.
Preferable, of course, is one of each…but no one has a wife who would allow all of those to be bought at once…and in Caalifornia, it would take months and make the police coe knock on your door, wondering what you are up to.
Finally, you need a regular rifle for distance. This is the one I lack as I am too poor at the moment to afford one. I, personally, am really wanting a Winchester 30/30. Call me old fashioned, but there is just something very satisfying in protecting you home and children the same way as it was done for over a hundred year.
And I am not proud, so if someone has one they want to donate to this poor, disabled fireman…
Retfireman – Handgun question. I have numerous long rifles and shotguns. All in good working order, and none “younger” than 30 years old. (Not enough ammo, but that is another matter.) I looked into getting a handgun and saw all the paperwork and government intrusion into my life in order to get a handgun. Is it worth it to buy a handgun, and lose whatever anonymity I might have? Or am I being too paranoid?
I forget who wrote this a few months ago (it sounds familiar), but I copied it to my desktop for followup
When they’re a dumba$$, they’re a dumba$$. We cant fix that.
Voting for someone ‘cuz dey talks real gud’ and aren’t uppity isn’t really something to be proud of.
That was clarified earlier. Public employees don’t count. I’m talking about people on public assistance.
I hate to sound so cynical! But didn’t Prompterbama promise to put American’s to work? I believe the quote is, “I will save or create 3.5 million jobs for working Americans.” The last time I looked at the article above, Americans do not include illegal aliens. If Napolitano tries to quash these type of raids, isn’t that grounds for impeachment? Didn’t she take an oath? This is so WRONG!

Yeah we all think we’re badass when it comes down to this issue. But the fact is you will not stop it.
If the Obama administration does not enforce the immigration laws, just as the Bush administration did not enforce the law, then you are completely powerless to stop this travesty.
Are you going to gun them down? I would.
We had an intelliegence test here in Palm Beach County in the 2000 election. It was called the butterfly ballot.
The Dems failed.
And yet your guy was somehow keep up with even these lowly standards?
somehow unable to keep up
Let me put it this way. There are supposedly 10-20 million illegal a-holes here.
There are maybe that many people who want to get rid of these freeloaders.
Identify the illegals. Threaten them with their livelihood, or their lives. Escort them out of the country (which is what our ICE shoudl be doing). Be creative.
This might take a few months, but if everyone (the 20 million legal people who want to see their country nearly the same as when they born) steps up to the plate, it shouldn’t be a problem.
Now this operation should include coercive force against any attorney as well.
Hello?
It’s amazing how ignorant the libs are in not realizing we that cling to our bibles and guns will in due time be pushed to the point of turning both bible and guns against these socialist pigs that want to destroy our country.
So when is that point? I think it has arrived, What say you? And the rest of you?
Are you ready to really act? or just bitch.
I doubt many here would label McCain as “our” guy. As others have noted to lgm, on immigration Obama and McCain sounded very much alike. To claim that McCain was running on a “kick em all out” platform is rather funny.
With regards to Pres. Obama, though, did he not respond when asked about his illegal alien aunt that she should be required to follow the law of the land? Seems to me he gave a mini-stump speech that we were a nation of laws. If he believes that, shouldn’t he enforce those laws as our chief executive?
Where is his aunt now?
Is it now customary for all raids to be cleared through the secretary’s office? That seems excessive and unnecessary unless, of course, your goal is to hinder and limit the agency’s effectiveness.
I didn’t mean “first choice” but you go to war with the army you got, not the one you want. Right?
Ha! Can’t La Raza find anyone with an Hispanic sounding surname to run its forum? I think they need to be investigated for raaaaacial discrimination.
Alan Caruba on his Warning Signs blog put out an excellent and timely piece today on Janet N.
Pardon me, I didn’t mean to interrupt the polite tea party discussion. But you are really arguing about whether the Secretary of whatever is notified, or whether that person is qualified?
Give it a rest. The problem is so far beyond this BS it isn’t even funny, or relevant.
We are in a war for the country. It’s not about politics as usual, or rule of law, because there isn’t any rule of law that is being enforced.
Just let me say and copy one thing from “Network’.
I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take this anymore
You people can argue the fine points about how we’re supposedly going to spend, or sue, or or vote, or politely talk our way out of this.
For my money, there is on;y way one to take this country back. And that is through force. Brute force.
When the Country stops enforcing its own laws against invasion through our wide open borders, the people will do it themselves. Our government is openly inviting vigilantism; and I believe this is what the government will get.
So Chap to bring you on topic, how do you feel about what this woman says about her department and Obama?
I mean you are nit-picking some comment. Tell us you think she is right. We are listening go ahead.
Agreed. This is what people should be protesting about. The Tea Party protests are important but IMHO this is more important.
I would not only allowit, I would encourage it.
I’m unclear on your statement. Against whom are you suggesting we apply this brute force?
I ask because this could be read in terms of fighting against illegal aliens or against the current government leadership.
If it isn’t incompetence (The Present U.S. Government) that means it is intentional.
http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=CNG.2b04b3e135c9639d2bbf7a45f32c5bad.201&show_article=1
I have no opinion on it. I have no idea why she was upset that she was not informed of the raid, if it is a procedural issue or a substantive policy disagreement with such raids. Furthermore, I am not informed enough on the relative merits to such raids as opposed to other methods of illegal immigration enforcement.
Chap,
So, if someone is being mugged you walk by because you have no idea why the victim deserves it.
Got it.
That makes zero sense.
How can immigration policy be working when the illegal alien-in chief is still in power?
This is indicative of the gov’ts attitude toward illegal immigration for the past 3 decades. Workplace raids will only truly be effective when the punishment outweighs the crime. Otherwise, we are trying to empty the ocean with a spoon.
The only real solution is to DRY UP ALL THE MAGNETS that draws them here. Jobs are only one of the magnets. No jobs. No welfare. No food stamps. No anchor babies. No hope of citizenship. No health care. Jail time for multiple offenses. No sanctuary cities. Just make it generally miserable to live here illegally. Take away the reasons they come and stay, not only will they stop coming, but those here will leave volutarily when there is no longer an advantage to staying (ATTRITION).
Agreed, but stiff penalties for employers of illegals has to be a top priority.
Has anybody besides me bothered to read HR 264?
Title V Section 501
ADJUSTMENT OF STATUS ON THE BASIS OF EARNED ACCESS TO LEGALIZATION
‘Sec. 245B. (a) In General- The Secretary of Homeland Security may adjust the status of an alien to that of an alien lawfully admitted for permanent residence if the alien–
‘(1) was physically present in the United States for a continuous period of not less than 5 years immediately preceding the date on which this provision was enacted and has maintained continuous physical presence since then;
‘(c) Admissible as Immigrant-
‘(1) IN GENERAL- The alien shall establish that the alien is admissible to the United States as immigrant, except as otherwise provided in paragraph (2).
‘(2) EXCEPTIONS- The provisions of paragraphs (5), (6)(A), (6)(B), (6)(C), (6)(F), (6)(G), (7)(A), (9)(B), and (9)(C)(i)(I) of section 212(a) shall not apply in the determination of an alien’s admissibility under this section.
212a6A is illegal entry. 6B, C and so on are fraudulent documents and false claiming of US citizenship.
Basically if they hide out for 5 years, the secretary can adjust illegal aliens to legal residents.
Backdoor amnesty.
There’s more fun stuff in the bill, too, like adjustments of what crimes will keep someone out of the country.
Michelle, I hope you’re reading this!
More HR 264:
Section 622 removes mandatory detention for expedited removals. Rather than the illegal alien going to jail, many classes of aliens (those with family, etc. – plus a catch all of “(G) Other groups designated in regulations promulgated by the Secretary.”
What that means in practice is that when someone is given an expedited removal – a deportation – instead of being held in jail until their final hearing by a judge, they’re given “walking papers”. This is what used to happen for non-Mexican illegal aliens. They’d be given their papers and be told to show up at court to be determined ineligible and deported.
Instead, they took the walking papers and took off. Section 622 makes it so they can all do that!
And all they have to do is hide out for 5 years and they can be adjusted to residents or citizens.
Michelle, I hope you’re reading this!
