“Liberty: All the stimulus we need”
I leave you with the parting photo of the day from the DC Tea Party. It is the leitmotif that ran through the protests across the country. Can’t say it any better than this:

(The photo is courtesy of Dr. Michael Hankamer, a wonderful and generous reader who lent Hot Air body armor for our trip to Iraq a few years ago. Thank you, Michael!)

Maybe a healthy dose of Liberty and an opportunity for a real (and factually based) education for our children. Still, the entire project seemed to have been relatively successful and I pray that it is only the beginning.
May God Bless you all and may your patriotism and (Manly American) spirit prove contagious to all of those around you.
Sorry to be a snarky nitpicker, but… link
(but you’re right about the sign saying it all)
OK, I’ll say it first.
GIVE ME LIBERTY OR GIVE ME DEATH!
Blackstone…thnx. am tired.
“You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the
wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working
for, another person must work for without receiving. The
government cannot give to anybody anything that the government
does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people
get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half
is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the
idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going
to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is about the end
of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.”

Perfect.
I loved listening to Dr. Rogers. What a powerful voice and, based on this quote, an exceptionally wise man!
Oh come on – all that self-hatred interferes with your spelling…
It may well come to that–I plan on taking a few Blue on my way down though. Yes indeed -These are the times that try mens’ souls.

I’ll keep my guns, you keep the change.
I had never seen that quote before. Excellent!
I would like to offer a huge THANK YOU to all those who braved the elements and took valuable time from your lives to participate in the beginning of the revolution.
Well done!
Amen to this.
I’m not much of a protest kind of guy, but speaking to liberals in the language they understand (picket lines and protests) may be the only way to get them to listen to anyone.
Problem with all this is that it may very well be too little too late. This is only the latest in a century -long string of unacceptable big government usurpations of the authority of the people.
The time to do this was during the FDR administration.
Amen.

Wouldn’t it be great if a really rich person could put liberty quotes on billboards by the most crowded freeways. I have one of my favorites, perfect for recent events:
“If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your counsel nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and my posterity forget that you were our coountrymen.” Samuel Adams
Shove it their collectivists faces!
MM, please do a report about how libs are diminishing the Iraq campaign to a radar blip? My nieces are coming home from saying they’re told that Iraq was a “horrible mistake” that will be “fixed” this time. Nothing about freeing a nation and women and girls from tyranny or the US having gained a friendly face in that region which will be vital in watching over lone lamb Afghanistan. This is criminal brainwashing! I wish we could ship a couple of planeloads of Iraqi kids (especially girls) over to Congress to enlighten them of their “progress” under Saddam. Also, why aren’t Iraqi-American communities here talking up more, much less stepping up to the plate about things like this?

First: Thank you and your girls for their service to the country. I’m so proud of what they have accomplished.
However, IMHO, it is your girls themselves that need to tell the first-hand story of freeing a nation, women and girls, from the tyranny. Their opinion holds more truth than “what they are being told.” I’m sure they understand this, and I can only encourage them to speak up.
U wanna see stimulation? I’ll show you stimulation… Stimulate this…

Stop Rewarding Failure!
Liberty…none of us truly know what it is..because none of lived before the welfare state of the 1930s…and we will never know freedom like that again…age follows age…freedom becomes slavery..and that is what is happening now…try reading ‘a day in the life if ivan denisovich’ for our future…its pretty gray…at least in the short term.
the suicide of the west is nearly complete…as Burnham wrote about.
yep, WAY TOO LATE…its gonna get ugly in this country…oh well, it was fun while it lasted…
“Freedom to run your business without government interference”; like “card check” (I feel sorry for friends with small businesses!), like “environmental impact studies”, exorbitant “licensing fees”, like “you MUST make this loan to folks who cannot afford to repay it”….ad infinitum!
“I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.” Thomas Jefferson
Even Thomas Jefferson the founder of the Democratic party was against the socialism preached by the Democrats of today. Too bad TJ can’t show up at a present day Jefferson Jackson Dinner and straighten out those who claim his legacy.
My brother (a union bigwig, and died-in-the-wool Donk) used to go to those “Jefferson dinners”, and I asked him if they ever covered any of TJ’s writings. I don’t have to tell you his answer. All y’all know already!
That means even more for me…being as how that’s also the name of my Golden Retriever.
The only thing Democrats are concerned about in the matter of Thomas Jefferson’s writings, is his being pretty ambiguous concerning his religious beliefs. They can find each and every instance where he may have said something against having God involved, yet are completely ignorant of the truth of his beliefs, the fact that he was Christian, as were the vast majority of the Founding Fathers, and at no time was it ever meant for this country to be a Godless, atheistic nation.
The Liberals demonstrate their vast ignorance towards the history of the time every time they bring it up. The simple fact of the matter is that the people living in the 13 Original Colonies, including the Founding Fathers, were all INCREDIBLY religious and by and large Christian.
But then again, they also seem to confuse what is written in the Constitution. Somehow, they have come to believe that “Freedom OF Religion” is the same thing as “Freedom FROM Religion”. It means that every single CITIZEN of this country is free to practice his/her religion anywhere, anytime and in any manner, as long as it does not harm anyone or thing, they wish. That includes in schools, in courts, in the workplace, on the athletic fields, ANYWHERE.
But I seem to be a weird duck. I can’t help but think that there is something fundamentally wrong with a person that finds offense in God or in people that believe in God. Seriously…what is it that so disturbs them? Why are they so scared/worried/bothered b someone who believes in God or God in general?
It is fine if you don’t believe. I am sure that if you were in a plane that was plummeting towards the earth at a high rate of speed that these atheists would all stick to their lack of faith and would not even consider for a second to pray to their non-existent deity. However, why does it bother them so much. It shows a serious flaw in their character…a serious issue with who they are at their core.
But that is just my opinion. What do I know?
I think some of the hostility towards religion and/or Christianity in the specific may be partly the fault of a small group of particularly obnoxious religious people. Some beliefs can hardly be stated anywhere without attracting several wide-eyed, young, parroting, patronizing evangelicals. Since they’re the loudest, people not exposed to more mainstream or thoughtful or better-mannered varieties may think all theists or Christians are like that. (I am NOT saying all evangelicals are like that, just some. It makes perfect sense that if you think people who don’t believe what you believe are in for a horrible afterlife that you would try to persuade other people as to your beliefs. However, nobody likes being patronized, and some of your representatives, and I think it’s disproportionately the younger ones, really come off that way.)
I know a small group of particularly obnoxious religious people that like to SLAUGHTER PEOPLE – and the loony left simply worships them.
No – nice try but it’s just mindless hate and rage on the side of the left. They have been taught at an early age a series of lies and propaganda by fervent leftist atheists, satanists, and pagans. They hate out of fear and ignorance, but they hate with a passion that matches the loud minority you’re thinking of.
It is always amusing that the Dems claim Jefferson as the “founder” of their party. His politics and beliefs are the complete opposite of what the party stands for. He was for very limited government and was considered by many as a “desperate radical” for his belief in abolition of slavery. Jackson is more of a “founder” than Jefferson, in political philosophy. Besides, he loved the “jackass” symbol so much, he decided to keep it.
Um, no. All of the hostility toward religion comes from two things:
1. Religion puts another God before self, a God who doesn’t acquiesce to moral relativity and changing pop-culture.
2. Religion’s views on sexuality.
We could never speak about our faith publicly, quietly go to church and get on with our lives and – so long as we still believed in the above two – we’d still be the targets of hostility.
But, I digress.
Liberty is the greatest equalizer. The free market system gives everyone the opportunity to thrive.
Liberals seem to think that because there are quite a few people out there who choose not to capitalize on their liberty and freedom, that the system is the problem.
It isn’t.
PKAmmoTroop:
“Worship” may not be the right word here, even for the craziest of them. They fail to hold those people responsible for their own actions and try to blame all sorts of people and groups who are in no way at fault, basically every Western government. I think they do buy some of that specific group’s lying propaganda, too, but let’s not forget their exposure is mainly to mainstream media which doesn’t expose much of anything.
Also, “familiarity breeds contempt”- if they had to deal with this group as much as they had to deal with the more obnoxious proponents of Christianity, I imagine the “worship” would dissolve pretty darn quickly.
Please post a link to a site or a description of a book series or similar that is reasonably mainstreamed and that features this particular brand of religious propaganda and lies telling people to hate Christianity. Try to post enough to cover all four categories you mentioned; leftists, atheists, satanists, and pagans. I ask this in particular because a lot of people seem to believe those last two words are interchangeable, and they’re not even remotely the same group.
Demonstrably false. Go ahead and do a google search on pagan charities and see what you come up with. I think my concerns about linking directly are obvious. However, taking a quick look, I’ve seen food drives and homeless shelters and prison ministry and basically everything attending to the poor you’d expect to see in a group of Christian charities. Again going by a quick google search, atheists seem to like charities, too. Not so many on the specific atheist-associated ones, but they do appear as interested in giving as anybody, and happy with secular options that theists also donate to. (You do know there is at least one pro-life group for pagans and at least one pro-life group for atheists/agnostics?)
Not finding specifically satanist charities, which is not a surprise, but even a short search revealed at least one person talking about having chosen satanism over agnosticism because they were tired of being preached to. The first sites that come up seem to regard it as a brand of atheism that people take up in order to express anger with Christianity. There seem to be different groups using the satanist label. (I didn’t use the word “denomination” because these groups seem to have no actual connection or common belief with each other.)
And this was a short, easy search.
I know lots of Christians who speak about their faith publicly and quietly go to church, without harrassment. I’m not talking about all-Christian communities, either. I don’t know where you live, so maybe your situation is somehow different, but honestly, everywhere I’ve lived has been fine like that.
As far as religion’s views on sexuality, I have hung out with many people, including non-Christians, who did not share my “nothing-until-marriage” views, and not once did anyone ever try to persuade me otherwise or to convince me to participate in anything with which I was uncomfortable, or express so much as mild dislike for me because of my views. Message boards can be a bit rougher, but other religions and viewpoints get the same in that environment.
I also believe the free market is the best possible system. When a person honestly struggles within that system, the best help can and will come from private people and not from the government. Private people are also a whole lot better at filtering those who are just taking advantage and at helping people on the road to being self-sustaining, so that people who really need it can get the help and those who have worked for it can keep the fruits of their own labors.
Liberty: All the stimulus we need.
A new sig line for me!
But, don’t forget this:
–
In this present crisis, government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem. From time to time we’ve been tempted to believe that society has become too complex to be managed by self-rule, that government by an elite group is superior to government for, by, and of the people. Well, if no one among us is capable of governing himself, then who among us has the capacity to govern someone else? All of us together, in and out of government, must bear the burden. The solutions we seek must be equitable, with no one group singled out to pay a higher price. – Ronald Reagan from his first inaugural address
Liberty is the greatest equalizer
you people:
“ChicagoTeaParty.com was just one part of a larger network of Republican sleeper-cell-blogs set up over the course of the past few months, all of them tied to a shady rightwing advocacy group coincidentally named the “Sam Adams Alliance,” whose backers have until now been kept hidden from public. Cached google records that we discovered show that the Sam Adams Alliance took pains to scrub its deep links to the Koch family money as well as the fake-grassroots “tea party” protests going on today.”
Ilovemycountry,
You forgot to cite your source.
Don’t you just love the indignance and the smarminess concerning IHMC’s slick detective work?
Now, when we listen to you speak out against all the Communist organizations that back all you Liberal “grassroots” organizations such as Code Pink, D.U., Kos as well as all the George Soros run websites and organizations such as Moveon.org and Kos and others, then maybe we will take you seriously.
But as you seem intent on demonstrating what a screaming hypocrite you are, we will just have to relegate you to the inconsequential area of this board and point and laugh.
