State officials ban tea from Tea Party

Via Snapped Shot and STACLU comes news that Iowa state officials have banned the use of tea by Tea Party protesters holding an event tomorrow in Cedar Rapids.
The tea violates environmental standards because it will discolor the water:
A Cedar Rapids group will do a symbolic tea dumping into the Cedar River on Saturday because state officials won’t let them use the real thing.
An anti-tax group wanted to pitch in real tea like the Bostonian revolutionaries opposed to England’s tea taxes.
Tea, although natural and quite tasty, is considered a pollutant that can’t go into a body of water without a permit, said Mike Wade, a senior environmental specialist at the DNR’s Manchester field office.
“Discoloration is considered a violation,” Wade said.

Montgomery, AL,
Strong tornadic rotation noted approaching
Ed Mahmoud abu al-Kahoul:
We are right in the midst of it — getting VERY dark outside, wind is getting pretty blustery! Only a little rain, lightning within 5 miles, buckle your seat belt, hang onto your hats!
Throw the damned tea in anyway.
“All Clear” sirens are going now.
Just wish we were all clear of the tornado in the White House.
If it was me, I’d dump the tea because of their opposition.
On the other hand, why a reenactment of the Boston Tea Party? Dumping the tea was a direct response to insane taxes the British had applied to the tea. It was a direct protest using the object of taxation.
What relevance does doing a Tea Party have today, other than as a poor copy of an excellent, targeted protest from 225+ years ago?
I think the protest should be more relevant. Do you think rotting pig carcasses dumped on the steps of the Capital Building would be more direct? (I’m thinking of Mythbusters here.)
I went to college and medical school around Cedar Rapids and Iowa City. There is no way on earth that you could tell if the Cedar or Iowa Rivers were discolored. They are both mud-brown and never change. Leave it to a low-level civil servant to make such an asinine statement.
Huskergirl, are you saying that Rosa Parks should have just played nice and given up her seat on the bus because it was the law, choosing instead to merely say she objected to that law? How far do you think the Civil Rights movement would have gotten?
There must be Obama masks out there to use!
Hehe.
Seven minutes may be anough – his stupidity may never escape the Internet vortex.
Yeah, leaves are pollutants. Doesn’t this sum up the last 40 years of “environmentalism”?
And please do not throw hot tea into the river – global warming will boil that river soon enough.
Dump the tea in the river! It would be very interesting to see them prosecute people for an anti-tax “party”. I think a lot of people would rise up to defend and protest their prosecution.
You People don’t care about the sea kittens? Shame on each and every one of You People!
Get some Huevos like the original tea party participants. Dump the tea in the river.
Tea Party is much, much too mild. It’s now to the point where we need a French Revolution-type action.
Schumer, Dodd, Frank, Pelosi, Reid first.
Then the rest of the losers. Then the One…
I don’t mean to be gross, but where do they think the tea that we drink ends up eventually?
Yeah, I say dump it anyway. At night, just like the originals. The IS civil disobedience after all. I certainly don’t advocate force or violence, unlike the lefties, so this is really a good civics lesson for the youngsters.
Be sure to dress up as HIPPIES and NYC / Columbia students! (Assuming you can stand the smell that is….)
Just like the originals dressed as Indians…
CLASSIC!
Unreal… I can’t believe the question even has to be asked!
I’ve asked this question before, and I will ask this question again.
At what precise point should the German people have raised up and stopped Hitler? And just how should they have done it?
I don’t have the answer to this question. But I think it’s a worthy topic and something every patriot needs to be thinking about.
Before now I have always hated it when people compared everyone and their brother to Hitler. But we now have a man whose goals are much the same.
And we’re asking whether or not we should dump tea into a river?
Good luck enforcing that…
Maybe they should all take their dogs to the river, and have them urinate into the pristine, uncolored water.
“The battle, Sir, is not to the strong alone; it is to the vigilant, the active, the brave. Besides, Sir, we have no election. If we were base enough to desire it, it is now too late to retire from the contest. There is no retreat but in submission and slavery! Our chains are forged! Their clanking may be heard on the plains of Boston! The war is inevitable; and let it come! I repeat, Sir, let it come!” — Patrick Henry
Will that do?

I’ll keep my guns, you keep the change.
Dump it anyway.

Throw packets of instant hot chocolate in reference to the Chocolate Jesus.
Another case of the tyranny of the minority over the majority.
I wonder what the environmental impact is of Chuck-u Schumer’s advice to “Let ‘em eat pork.”?
I purpose that everyone take two tea bags, tie the strings together and hang them on your rearview mirror. This will serve as a grassroots effort to protest rising taxes and show solidarity with all like minded people you run into everyday and don’t even realize it.
THNEED #120 – i WILL DO THIS! At this point, any protest, no matter how small, is worth our time and effort.
