I live in Oakland county, 35 miles north of Detroit, which is considered metro Detroit. The ‘region’ consists of Macomb, Oakland & Wayne counties. We share (but Detroit has control) common muni functions like water/sewer (unless you live far enough away to have well/septic, like we do), Cobo hall,etc. Volumes can be written regarding how the city of Detroit (council and some past mayors)took ‘it’ to the suburbs. Blusoc’s #26 statement is a lie. White folks who live outside of detroit are not generally rich. We may be successful because we’ve worked damn hard for everything that we have. And, there are many successful blacks living in Macomb and Oakland counties. There is no fight for control of that city—we’ve been lectured for years that it’s in the ‘regions’ best interest to sink money into the pit called detroit.
Michelle’s article references Finley’s editorial. That’s old racist news. Last Thursday, a hastily and illegally convened meeting was called by the super racist Conyers and it really got racist and ugly.

My only recourse after hearing this racist rant (mostly about Oakland’s county Executive) on the radio, internet and tube was to write to the Ilitch’s who own 2 major sports teams (Red Wings. Tigers), theaters, restaurants, etc. (all in Detroit) indicating we’ve reached our limit….no more spending on anything that goes on in detroit, ever, unless a change is made down there. To date, a positive response has been received, but let’s see how it goes. Frankly, I don’t care….the hub should be moved from detroit to one of the safe, clean, less corrupt, successful suburban areas. Detroit does not deserve our support.

So is Obama not radical enough for them? Should he mandate all people that don’t look like the Detroit Council be fired and the jobs given to people who do?

I suspect we can all point to bad behavior on all sides, and quite possibly to ourselves. I know I’ve let my lesser motives loose more than once.

However, my personal thoughts are my own, as are my personal mistakes. What is on display here are paid representatives of American citizens walking dangerously closely to a hate crime. If I were in the meeting, I would have consulted a legal authority on what to do about it.

None of this has a place in America. There will always be some level of discord which will cause trouble, but it should not be endemic to any part of our system.

No, it is not. The antics of Conyers is an example. I have been called a bigot many times by liberals just because I believe in the free market system. When I see a person the first thing I look for is how they carry themselves and if they are professional in their public life. I look for potential in people. Liberals only seem to look for a color, then use that to either put them down or apologize for them, which really does nothing but give people an excuse to be unproductive. That is your democrat party. Sorry, I know you will make up excuse after excuse to dismiss this, but it is true.

Seems to me Troy(and many other burbs) has many blacks living out there who have escaped the pit of Detroit.

For one thing, I said I was generalizing a bit. For another, no, Troy does not have many black residents. From wikipedia, it’s 2% black. (also, my parents live there)

lgm, where is the chorus of racist cries from the all fair, all caring, all benevolent white communists. reverse this situation, all white council telling blacks to go home, telling black union leaders they don’t look like us so get out. there would be marches and protests and demands for immediate incarceration or execution by every race bating reverend in the u.s. so let the white taxpayers who fund these bigots force the state to quit funding detroit with their money. let them have to produce for themselves for a while. pimping, drug sales, and unemployment don’t create an economy.
