Chicago Tough Guy snubs British PM over snow

By Michelle Malkin  •  March 3, 2009 10:50 AM

Toby Harnden of the Daily Telegraph has the scoop on Barack Obama’s diss of British PM Gordon Brown. Their meeting was canceled due to “snow.”

Talk about being left out in the cold.

He’s got no time for Brown, but flinty Obama is scheduled to meet with they Boy Scouts in the Oval Office.

Where, rest assured, the temperature will be nice and tropical.

Is the White House night life being canceled as well? Just saying, maybe they should invite him to enjoy the new nightlife in the house that belongs to “we the people”? Certainly the roof there does not leak and they should be relatively safe from the harsh climate of the reality just outside their doors?

Well, after Russia laughed in his face over that embarrassing plea for them to intercede on Obama’s behalf with Iran, I guess he had to take it out on someone – too bad it had to be a reliable ally.

Tip for the Obama admin.: The president of the world’s lone superpower doesn’t deal for liaisons and doesn’t prostrate himself before our enemies.

Just another sign that that relic of shared capitalism and individual liberty and defense of capitalism, the so called “special relationship” between the US and UK is over. Besides, most US presidents before, even the ‘Bubbas’ like Clinton and LBJ, were White Anglo-Saxon Protestants, the oppressor class.

The Churchill bust snub was just the first shot.

Funny thing is, the UK has many of the socialist institutions that Obama wants for the US, but perhaps the fact that the UK is still a representative democracy makes him uncomfortable.

I think O-bum-A “rest of the world applies only to the Islamic world. He’s not trying to score points with the UK, the USA’s dependable ally, OB is more concern with the perception of those nations who hates us and calls us the Great Satan.

Remember when OB scared the $h*t out of our spineless lawmakers with his Paul Revere cry of the “the country is in crisis and inaction is not an option” when he was pushing his STIMULUS SPENDING BILL with a rush order? Congress genuflected and bowed to his wishes and delivered the Spending Bill for his signature since time is of the essence to save our economy, but wait, there is a barbecue party in Chicago on Saturday and he needs to catch an Airforce One flight on Friday and the BBQ is of utmost importance and requires his presence. Failure to attend will incense his Chicago political handlers and they may throw him under the bus so he decided to delay the signing for 3 days. The socalled Stimulus Bill should be retitled as the SHAMULUS Bill.

This is ridiculous. What a transparent excuse. If he really wanted to hold a presser, the White House has the huge East Room to hold press conferences in.

The East Room is the largest room in the White House, the home of the President of the United States. It is used for entertaining, press conferences, ceremonies, and occasionally for a large dinner. The White House’s oldest possession, the 1797 Gilbert Stuart portrait of George Washington, rescued from the 1814 fire, hangs in the East Room with a companion portrait of Martha Washington painted by Eliphalet F. Andrews in 1878.

Is this what spin looks like?

All the information Toby Harnden provided in relation to where and how what will happen, in the meeting between Brown and Obama, came from British functionaries.

He finally got a hold of Tuesday’s schedule, provided by the White House and learned about the Boy Scout meeting, etc.

Why didn’t Harden get a copy of Monday’s White House schedule, to know exactly both sides of the story?

Seems Harnden relied too heavily on what he was being told by the British functionaries, who may have been hopeful for a longer meeting, or who were trying to ‘push’ an agenda that might have resulted in a longer meeting.

Perhaps there was an assumption by the Brits that their Prime Minister would receive the customary treatment (the same which they give to the President of the United States when he visits).

Yes, there might have been a miscommunication, but if the White House was going to deviate from the normal protocols, you might think they would ensure that 10 Downing Street knew about it. Miscommunication or not, shouldn’t we expect more from the administration that campaigned on “improving” our international relations?

Liberals are fond of reminding us how important European opinion is of us. Well, it looks as though the British are viewing this as a snub.

who were trying to ‘push’ an agenda

That agenda was the “Global New Deal”… which would fit right into Pres. Obama’s agenda, wouldn’t it?

Outrageous insult to the British and reflects badly on all Americans. Maybe Obama should actually read the books on Churchill that Brown left, but I doubt that will happen.

Lack of class by Obama administration is evident, and it must have been an embarrassment to Brown.

I do recall, however, my first visit to the UK. President Reagan was in office, and it was hard to miss huge, end-to-end posters of him plastered on the buses in London – - they pictured him with the chimpanzee ( from a film called Bedtime for Bonzo). I remember how disappointed I felt that the US president would be treated with such disrepect by a country I had always believed were our allies…a country of my ancestors. I couldn’t imagine the US allowing that to happen with – - say the Queen.

I have since learned that a favorite sport of the Europeans is America bashing …. funny you’d think it would be Germany they targeted wouldn’t you?

Prime Minister Brown hasn’t exactly been kind to President Bush….so maybe what goes around comes around.
