Omni-pork lives! Senate protects $7.7 billion worth of earmarks

President Obama can breathe a sigh of relief. The Senate just voted to keep all those earmarks that don’t exist in the $410 billion spending bill.
GOP Sen. John McCain’s amendment stripping the omni-pork package of an estimated 8,500 pet projects worth roughly $8 billion was defeated this afternoon. You can find a database of all those teeny, tiny pork projects here.
Here’s the roll call vote:

God save us from bipartisanship.
Allah’s got the vid of McCain on the Senate floor.
Via GOP Senate staffer Tom Jones, here’s the earmark pork map for the Commerce/Justice/State Omni-pork bill — and here’s the one for Energy and Water.

Wonder where all the porkulus money that’s already been approved is going? Tabitha Hale is watching.

Is it obvious Claire McCaskill is up for re-election in 2010?
Is RINOitis contagious? From 3 we now have 8?!
Both my TX senators voted no. Too bad it will not make us richer for the ones that voted yes.
L
LIAR!!! LIAR!!!
lgm said there were NO earmarks.
Oinked again!
after about 1.2 trillion, 7.7 billion seems like small potatoes anymore.
Sorry for the #3, S/B both TX voted to strip the pork.

I don’t even have to bother to look at my two loser CA senators. There isn’t a tax or spend program they don’t like.
I just did a video on this very topic:

It’s tough for alcoholics to quit.
Your are showing your age. Dimocraps have not been “tax and spend” in over 3 decades.
Holy cow! Both my senators voted Yea – Lugar AND Bayh.
Where can I go to see if Bayh’s up for re-election?
Same here in MA…

What we need is more spending to reduce
debtgains. It all depends on what the definition is this week. He might agree they’re pork, but deny the word earmarks.
I guess this is the Obama plan for eliminating earmarks – declaring they don’t exist by suggesting the legislators move them to the core of the bill. So long as it’s an omnibus bill with no clear and unifying purpose (other than extending big government and spend, spend, spend), there’s no earmarks… they’re effectively all earmarks and none of them are distinctive as a “side” agreement.
Harry Reid’s monorail is, after all, not a pet project but a matter of extreme importance to the entire country. /sarc
Unreal
lgm,
Seriously, I would like to know what they voted on. I am being completely serious. Can you please tell me so I can be educated because I am missing something?
Soap
I feel so violated–lgm swore there were no earmarks!
DeMint needs to change his first name to Edward. Then he’d just be….
demented
Did I miss something? Why are we going after DeMint? He’s been a rather vocal opponent of the spending, hasn’t he?
These people need to go…please campaign against, and vilify these liberal Republicans wherever they pop up;

No amount of rationalization can rehabilitate their votes on these measures. We cannot afford to have Democrats in power, nor, obviously can we afford these “pretend conservatives” who support them. VOTE THEM OUT!!! And if Michael Steele is unable to show some mettle, he’s welcome to go away as well.
No news here. Just typical empty posturing by McCain when he has no chance of succeeding. Where was his “gang of 14″? Oh yeah, they only assemble when Democrats need help on their issues.
Once again, McCain FAILS when leading the charge for conservatism. Perfect record intact.
I’m sending out a salute to Senators Tom Coburn and Jim Inhofe, my guys, for voting against the earmarks that lgm said weren’t in the bill, as they voted against the damn’ thing in the first place.
ECS
who the hell is dissing DeMint.?.. he voted for getting rid of the pork…. must’ve been a liberal snot rag.
oops; i had my eyes in backwards
i saw ‘yea’ for ‘nay’; and vikky verky.
And the dimbulbs in Washington.
wighttrasch…. that’s okay … happens to the best of us…. my apologies if you thought my comment was at you personally.
Come on lgm, let’s see an 814 word post explaining how this isn’t what you thought it was.
How about three litle words then:
I was wrong.
Needless to say we have been poorly served by the so called conservatives (RINOs) in the Senate this year. There are very few with an R behind their name that have voted to protect conservative principles. Count on the piggy class in the Senate and House to belly up to the trough to spend our forced tribute on 9000 BS programs.
ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒE (mo-lone lah-veh) Translation: Come and take them!
Evan Bayh (D) is up for re-election in 2010. That is the reason for his Yea vote since most of Indiana is conservative, no surprise there.
I’m actually surprised Lugar (R) voted Yea , considering is voting history lately.
I purpose that everyone take two tea bags, tie the strings together and hang them on your rearview mirror. This will serve as a grassroots effort to protest rising taxes and show solidarity with all like minded people you run into everyday and don’t even realize it.
Ya know, the more I think about it, I think the $650,000 for Beaver Management might actually be a good project. If the government learns to manage beavers then there is hope for management of the American people when we all go under water!
Fox is reporting that the Omnibus bill is in a bit of trouble this morning. Dare we hope? I sure hope they leave in that Beaver management project though.
