Paging another TV doctor, paging another TV doctor
CNN announced today that Dr. Sanjay Gupta has decided not to pursue the Surgeon General position in Barack Obama’s administration. No reason has been given for the withdrawal.
Sanjay Gupta, CNN’s chief medical correspondent, will not leave his television career to become the U.S. surgeon general, he told network officials, according to sources familiar with his decision.
Gupta, who had been the leading candidate for the post, withdrew his name even as President Obama hosted a health care summit at the White House. Gupta did not attend.
There was not immediate word to explain his decision. Sources had confirmed weeks ago that Obama had offered the job to Gupta and that the neurosurgeon had intended to take it. At the time, sources said Gupta would leave his network job for the government post.
On a positive note, Dr. Phil is available!

Yes, Andy I think Sanjay Gupta did have a very public disagreement with Michael Moore over “Sicko” and it spilled over to Moore’s sycophantic, psychotic stooges.
The Surgeon General is expected to give up their private practice, which is a real shame. Medicine is not one of those professions where you can leave for a year and expect to remain current. Things just change so fast with the amount of research being done.
I may not agree with him politically, but I completely understand Gupta’s reasons. His patients and his family are important, and the big drops in income, and the catastrophic drop in credibility are not worth it.
I considered the Klug Man, but I think more than an ME. We’re going to need “Bones”…she can examine the charred remains of our economy.
LOL!!!
At least the Treasurer gets to see his signature on paper money.
Kidding aside, you are right. Why do we even need a Surgeon General?
