The Surgeon General is expected to give up their private practice, which is a real shame. Medicine is not one of those professions where you can leave for a year and expect to remain current. Things just change so fast with the amount of research being done.

I may not agree with him politically, but I completely understand Gupta’s reasons. His patients and his family are important, and the big drops in income, and the catastrophic drop in credibility are not worth it.

Sounds very good, but you actually do nothing to advance medicine and ultimately have little or no effect on patient care.

It would be unethical for me to comment on his practice, and I certainly would never presume to do so. His politics leave much to be desired, and he apparently has ticked off those in the very far left of the political spectrum for some reason.

Overall, I would not want my name associated with socialized medicine. I will say it again–socialized medicine is bad medicine despite what the ill-informed left may tell you. I only need to look to my patient base (1/3rd are from a well-known socialist country to our north) to know.

1) Didn’t he tee off Fats Moore and his SICK flick, all but calling Fats a liar & manipulator of the facts on Cuban medicine?

2) He said ultimately, he turned it down because he would have to stop practicing medicine — can’t stay on top of the game in his specialty if you don’t practice every week.
