Pop singer Crystal Waters did a song many years ago called “She’s Homeless.” The hook went like this: “She’s just like you and me, but she is homeless, she is homeless.”
In D.C., the homeless are just like you and me, and they have cell phones, they have cell phones.
Via Andrew Malcolm, here is one of the homeless cell phone owners snapping a pic of First Lady Michelle Obama — ruining what was supposed to be a sob story photo op of the compassionate Mrs. O catering to the downtrodden.

Some folks are wondering where the cell phone bills get sent.
The answer is obvious: ACORN headquarters.

Thunder, would you say that the Libs calling Sarah Palin a “redneck” or mocking her intelligence just because she is beautiful and female is wrong? Those assumptions are so broad, and they are based on nothing but the barest of knowledge about her as a human being. It ticked me off to see her treated so unfairly. It ticks me off the same to see any other human being treated unfairly based on their race, sex, or station in life. It’s wrong, it is what we fight against. America was once great – she got that way without ANY of the liberal social agenda. The liberal social agenda is unnecessary.
Maybe Michelle should call the soup kitchen and ask if the person in the picture is an employee/volunteer or a homeless person. That would settle the debate.
Ditto this, and I’m also with HappyScrapper. The story here is not that this man has a cell phone, which cannot reasonably be compared to a 56″ big-screen TV. I donate my old cell phones and they are made available to the homeless through some wonderful charitabl agencies, so that they can stay connected (mostly through pre-paid, I imagine).
The story, IMHO, is the very issue that Dems blame Republicans for: they are “out of touch” with the common citizen. Serving on the soup line during the day, while wearing designer digs that show of your “I-can-spend-3-hours-a-day-at-the-gym” upper arms, before heading home to enjoy tax-payer-funded $100/plate beef at home, is pornographic.
MM plainly articulated the “point” of the the story, and she’s either being extremely lazy, or she’s purposefully being outlandish because traffic has been slow this week. You made an excellant point about the homeless’ use of cells, second hand or otherwise. Of course, MM doensn’t know if the picture taker was an employee, non-homeless, or borrowing the phone. It’s just a lazy, stupid post. I’m glad I have an active membership to express in print how utterly stupid the thread is. You’re weak today MM.

Kind of “off topic” but have you noticed the reporting on alternate days lately about the “obesity crisis” and the increased need for “school lunches” because recession-struck families suddenly can’t feed their kids?
How can the majority of American kids be obese one day and starving the next? Well, I guess if you are MSM you can believe anything you want…

I see what you’re saying, but MM does stuff like this from time to time, and I just think it’s LCD type stuff, and so, so lazy. I think it’s a transparently desperate attempt to rile up the “base” over what could be nothing.

As already pointed out, homeless != destitute. Furthermore, any charitable programs designed to provide pay-as-you go, second-hand cell phones is pretty benign in my eyes when compared to the litany of other real outrages.
This IS manufactured outrage and MM should be above this.

One of the reasons poor kids tend to be obese is that they’re being fed cheap food that’s loaded with sugar and calories. Way too many carbs.
It invalidates that person’s opinion and is a “put-down”. That kind of comment shouldn’t be used on those of us who are expressing a valid opinion. You may, however, continue to consider lgm’s comments bogus, because they are. See the difference? I am not trying to censor your comments!!! For the most part, I don’t think any of us here care one twit what color, religion, or the circumstances behind a person being homeless. The fact there are, is a testament to where this country finds itself at the moment. Most people are one paycheck away from being homeless. So, if you are employed with that looming proposition, I’d say you might want to forego that $5 Starbucks on the way to work, and a $20 lunch because it makes you feel better – for the moment. We find ourselves in this pickle due to overindulgence and quick fixes for the ego.
Yes, there are abuses by all races in the game to get what you see as your fair share, even in line at a shelter.
As far as MM sometimes throwing up a story/headline that seems trivial – do you not think it’s to make all of us dig down and consider things that on the surface looks one way and might be another altogether?
