The tax-paying rebels are not going away.

In Green Bay, Wisconsin, today an estimated 500 protesters gathered for a Tea Party at Titletown Brewing. Reader David has more at Pork Revolution:

Green Bay reader Natalie was also there. She e-mails a few more photos and a note:

Dear Michelle,

There were families there, big tough guys in their local union# jacket, young college age people, grandparents, single people, everyone was represented, everyone was middle-class. It was great to see and also, to KNOW that for every person who showed up at this Tea Party, there were probably 500 that couldn’t make it….kinda like roaches!

The signs were amazing and I am once again, hopeful for my country and for our way of life.

My parents came to this country (legally!) to escape socialism and I refuse to just let the Obamites walk all over us. I was so happy to see that even those who have enjoyed our freedoms for generations are not taking them for granted!

Thank you for everything you do to keep this country free!

Reader Earl sends a report from Olathe, KS, where an estimated 120 taxpayers came to raise their voices. A few pics:

And in Lafayette, LA, from reader Fred:

In Harrisburg, PA, hundreds more turned out today. And protesters underscored a theme hammered here over the past year — blasting Bush for pre-socializing the economy for Obama:

The event, organized by the Commonwealth Foundation, a politically conservative group, and two local radio talk show hosts, was called the “Harrisburg Tea Party.”

“These are people who believe in limited federal and state government, but who think government has overstepped its limited role in our lives,” said foundation President Matthew Brouillette.

Speakers and participants denounced both Republicans, such as former President George Bush and Sen. Arlen Specter, and Democrats, such as President Barack Obama and Gov. Ed Rendell.

They disliked Mr. Bush’s actions last fall to give federal money to banks that had made poisonous home loans, and criticized Mr. Obama for spending additional billions of taxpayer dollars to prop up General Motors and Chrysler, to help over-leveraged homeowners trying to avoid foreclosure and to help deficit-ridden states with his $787 billion economic stimulus program.

Glenn Reynolds has a good crowd pic from Harrisburg.

Reader Bonnie sends her Harrisburg pics:

Party on!

Reminder:

For new readers who are just learning about the protest movement and want to join, the best organizational resources are Tax Day Tea Party (nationwide April 15 events), Twitter #teaparty, PJTV’s list of upcoming protests, Re-TeaParty (send teabags to Washington and find July 4 events), and TCOT Report. And one more good one: New American Tea Party.

***

Update 6:23pm Eastern. There’s a big tax revolt protest just underway in Fullerton CA, spearheaded by KFI’s John & Ken. Liveblogging here.

Some of the signs in the crowd:

“Governor Schwarzenegger is a girly man!”
“Recall the Taxinator!”
“No on Poop 1A!”
“Been-A-Dick Arnold”
“How do Politicians Spell Pledge? L-I-E.”
“Born Free, Taxed to Death.”
“Effeminator”

Twitter user Sugar Jones is livetweeting the protest and reports that Schwarzengger’s videotapes and DVDs were sledgehammered and shredded.

California taxpayers are mad.

A commenter below says there’s a huge traffic jam in Fullerton caused by protesters trying to get to the venue. Packed.

How can you get media coverage when the media are afraid of this administration? These protests show Americans critical of our new government, and the MSM are afraid of being the messenger. Like I said, when YOU give away YOUR money so I don’t have to work, then I’ll be less hostile toward your inane comments and criticisms.

It just annoys you that less than two months into his term (first and last, hopefully) the American people realize Obama’s a left wing socialist liar and not the second coming.

Hi All, I’ve been to 2 out of 3 Tea Parties held in my area and all were very encouraging.
Recommendation to all who plan to attend a Tea Party: Have some serious talking points that you can articulate clearly and factually (if that’s a word..). The media is starting to walk up to people and ask them their views etc….I was approached and in my opinion came off as an air head and felt I didn’t help ‘the cause’. I realize, without practice, I’ll never be a good ‘off the cuff’ speaker so I’ll shy away from the media until I have the confidence to help and not hinder.
    Capish?

I have heard of plans to send tea-bags to the White House on April 15th. Although that could certainly send a message to The One, it likely won’t work.

Those of us working in a federal office know the mail never goes directly to a recipient. It first goes through a screening process where it is x-rayed, microwaved and put through other processes to make certain something like anthrax won’t get through. Further, if there is any suspicion about the contents of the envelope or package, it will be opened and examined — which means many tea-bags will get tossed in the trash as a potentially harmful substance rather than even be examined or forwarded to the Oval Office.

I speak from experience because recently my boss asked me to send a copy of a report I wrote to a Congressman who had sponsored some part of it. I dutifully had it mailed to the Congressman’s office, but when it arrived there (some three weeks later — I know the USPS ain’t what is used to be, however it wasn’t entirely their fault) one of the staff in the Legislative Liaison’s Office called and asked me to send another copy as the plastic binder and the color pictures in the report had “fused” into one big, useless blob. The process to “screen” the mail had destroyed the report.

I got the staffer’s home address and Fed-Ex’d a replacement copy that was hand-delivered to the Congressman’s office in three days.

As an alternative, may I suggest a “John Kerry” moment where we toss tea-bags over the White House fence for PBHO to see when he took his kids out for a stroll on the South Lawn?

Some American people think this. Most approve of Obama so far — between 60% and 70% in recent polls.

As for being a liar, Obama is causing tsunami waves by sticking to his campaign promises — health care reform, carbon emissions controls, letting the Bush tax cuts expire on schedule. These are things most voters want, but politicians find a way not to do.

Gladz: Whatever you do, don’t use Code Pink as a template — there is NOTHING to admire about their tactics. They are rude, crude and generally lewd. They shout down those with whom they disagree and they are uncivil and uncaring about the effect they might have on those watching, other than to make a commotion.

The Civil Rights movement (of the early 60’s, not the current modus operandi of the race pimps Al and Jesse) is a much better blueprint to copy. Dress well, remain calm, don’t break the law or anyone else’s property and remain rational. Speak calmly and in a measured tone, using logic, not emotion.

Who was polled? What is the breakdown of Democrat v. Republican in that poll? I don’t believe it until I see that the poll was conducted fairly and not biased toward Democrats (and I’m willing to bet it was. They usually are).

What about the promise to have transparent, ethical government? Those are promises he didn’t keep, either.

“Finding a way” – more codespeak for Obama doing whatever he wants, law and other campaign promises be damned. Never mind that the “reforms” he embraces, like socialized medicine, aren’t working out so well elsewhere. But I guess if you’re comfortable with a government bean counter saying you should die at 50 because treating your cancer is too expensive, that’s your choice.

Funny how when MOST Americans voted for Bush, they really didn’t want what Bush did in 2004…but now they do.

Forget it, lgm. Obama’s a disaster, doesn’t represent me or the other 58 million who didn’t vote for him. When the bottom falls out – and it probably will – he, and the Congressional Dems, will be holding the blame.

Gladz: You are doing GREAT since you already know not to copy CP.

Having had some media training, let me give you a few pointers:

    1) Get your talking points squared away — and minimize them (two, MAYBE three at the most). Understand you have less than a minute to speak, anything more and they are already finished with you, you won’t make the evening news. They are looking for sound-bites, not speechifying!

    2) Be pleasant and look directly at the interviewer, not the camera, even using the reporter’s name to make it personal. This also helps you make contact with the viewers since you are talking to someone tangible, not a teleprompter (sorry, I couldn’t resist).

    3) Don’t necessarily answer their question unless it hits on your point. Acknowledge the question, but not in a dismissive way and then get your points “out there.” Try, “That is a good question, but it misses the point…” which opens the door for you to get your points across.

    4) Brevity is the soul of wit, so is getting something in the media!

lgm, having lived out here for over two years I can refute you with a high degree of accuracy. NO ONE I know, work with, attend school with or in any way associate with thinks higher taxes is a good idea. The reason: This state needs to curb it’s out of control spending, not feed it with further tax increases.

Stick to commenting on things you may actually know something about. Here’s a hint:

You’re right that Obama promised exactly what he’s delivering. He said he would go after the wealthy and the productive. He’s giving us exactly the kind of crap he campaigned on, and likely most of his supporters and voters wanted exactly that.

Of course, once the masses figure out they can just vote themselves more money the republic is dead or dying.
