Business-as-usual Obama: Ok, now “let’s end to the old way of doing business”
What a laughingstock.
He signs 8,500 earmarks into law (out of camera’s view), sinks American deeper into a gazillion-dollar spending hole, then faces the public to declare that now, now, now he’ll clean up Washington, D.C. I smell swine odor!
Acknowledging it’s an “imperfect” bill, President Barack Obama said he will accept a $410 billion spending package but insisted it must signal an “end to the old way of doing business.”
The massive measure funding federal agencies through the fall contains nearly 8,000 pet projects, known as “earmarks” and denounced by critics as pork.Obama defended earmarks when they’re “done right,” allowing lawmakers to direct money to worthy projects in their districts — but added they’ve been abused, and he’ll work with Congress to curb them.
“I am signing an imperfect omnibus bill because it’s necessary for the ongoing functions of government,” Obama declared. “But I also view this as a departure point for more far-reaching change.”
This is his last drink, he promises. The last time he lights up. Really:
But he acknowledged that earmarks have bred “cynicism”, and he declared, “This piece of legislation must mark an end to the old way of doing business.”
Obama did not sign the bill in the presence of cameras and reporters, however.

On the contrary, I believe he knows exactly what he is doing.
Nothing has changed and nothing is going to change. He will continue signing bills with earmarks because he feels he must make his Dem cronies happy. He doesn’t care what anything costs and he doesn’t care about the people who are having to pay for it. He won’t be happy until everyone in America is making minimum wage so we can all be dependent on government. Socalism at its best.

We’ve progressed (ha!) from cleaning up Washington to there are no earmarks in this bill and then defended earmarks when they are “done right.” Way to go. Bravo!

And he’s holding himself out there exposed. If he renegs on this, he’ll have to spend the entire 2011-12 election explaining himself. He’s a smart politician if nothing else. I’ll take him at his word, and bash him appropriately if he does it again in the future. It’s not like there’s a modern presidential precedent for NOT signing an appropriations bill loaded in earmarks. It HAS been the way of doing business, and we can’t afford it in the near future. If it HAS to be done now, so be it. BTW, republicans in congress need to get their own “house” in order when it comes to requesting earmarks. I see a lot of hypocrisy going on on the Hill, though not from John McCain who has always been strong on this issue.

Agreed, and any objective look at my posts makes the point that excessive pork/earmarks need to stop. Democratic and Republican presidents have signed pork filled appropriations bills. It’s plainly clear that I’m against excessive earmarks, and will hold Obama accountable if he renegs. If he has to follow a long tradition of doing business now for funding purposes and avoiding a fight, so be it, but it has to stop and I’m taking him at his word.
I suppose you’re taking this quote and inventing a phony point to attack. I don’t care if you’re talking both Bushes, Reagan, Carter, and Clinton, it has been the way of doing business. If a bill’s got imperfections you find strongly objectionable, you don’t sign it. Apparently, He (capitalization intended) thought the thousands of imperfections were not objectionable enough when viewed as a whole. All those imperfections he once found unacceptable are now just minor onesie-twosie imperfections, allowable in order to pass the stuff he wants now. Supastah politician, yet so typical a politician in many ways.
