Terrific: Tax-subsidized ACORN mob teams up with L.A. teachers

As if ACORN’s shakedown artists and thugs weren’t causing enough trouble, now they’re occupying public school board meeting rooms to prevent government educators from cutting costs, firing useless teachers, and dealing with financial realities.
This is now the second “civil disobedience” campaign waged by the entitlement-mongers.
Our Community Organizer-in-Chief, who spoke so voluminously yesterday about education reform, was unavailable for comment…
A school board meeting turned into a display of civil disobedience Tuesday as about 50 educators refused to leave, creating a brief standoff with police, who refused to make any arrests in the presence of media.
The members of ACORN and United Teachers Los Angeles — all wearing bright red shirts — entered the Los Angeles Unified School District Board of Education meeting on Tuesday afternoon, sat down and began chanting.
Police said the protesters were staging an illegal occupation of a public building. The district said no arrests would occur as long as members of media were in building.
UTLA President A.J. Duffy approached the speakers’ lectern and told the board, “You know why we’re here. You know I’m not leaving this rostrum. You know I’m going to keep talking.”
As he spoke several teachers sat on the floor in front of the board and held up signs saying “Students lose when we lose teachers, No layoffs” as the crowd began chanting.
Board President Monica Garcia repeatedly asked Duffy to sit down, but he kept speaking. The microphone was turned off, but Duffy continued to speak and the chanting continued. Garcia then announced that the “disturbance has interrupted our meeting to the point where the orderly conduct of this meeting is not feasible.”

These liberals are against education reform? Don’t they know that their “dear leader”, the “messiah” wants education reform?
We’re up early today. On Fox this morning, Michelle?
The only reform the ultimate monument to affirmative action run amok wants is for everybody else to shut up about school vouchers.
We need to utilize the Hatch Act! Surely there is a Constitutional Lawyer somewhere that would pursue this course of action? Someone Conservative and eager for notoriety? To the best of my knowledge, the Hatch Act has not been repealed … has it?
We must be thinking about different Hatch Acts. I don’t see how it applies here.
The teachers union, all of the state’s unions, are a big reason why California is bankrupt. Actually, a district like LA could keep all of its teachers and improve facilities if they stopped teaching all of the children illegally in their county.
The unions ran huge ad campaigns against Schwarzenegger’s reform measures. All of the propositions were common sense and took power away from the unions. The unions banded together and drove a multi million ad campaign lying about the propositions. Californians, of course, bought it without checking the facts. The props failed. Scharzenegger knew there was no way to win, so he went along with them to make sure he got reelected.
Californians have no one to blame but themselves. Let the unions implode, glad to see ACORN pushing the failure of the largest state economy in the union. Republicans need to start campaigning by showing the failure of California and compare and contrast Sacramento to Washington D.C. Let people know, we are embarking on the whole country being broke like California.
Here’s a prime example of why I said to hell with teaching.
Funny thing here…not once in my career did I think it was in my best interest to ask my co-worker to subsidize my poor work. I always thought it was my responsibility to do my job such that the employer would want to keep me as long as was possible.
That is to say – a net benefit to them, they were better off having me there and paying me than they would be if I were not there and not paying me.
(for lgm and others – that is the only measure a business owner needs to care about for the survival of their business. A very simple concept – are we better off with this person or without.)
BTW,.good column this morning, Michelle.
This where your $4 billion went. It’s called “neighborhood stabilization activities.”
In reality, students lose when idiots are teaching them.
Do people need any more reason than this to leave LaLa Land? It’s “for the children.”
Reminds me of the sheep in Animal Farm, drowning out dissenting voices.
Mostly OT: Next on the iPod, “Sheep” by Pink Floyd
dude…
And this morning, the
teachersprotestersthugs are going to walk into their classrooms and teach what? And we wonder why the students behave like animals. Why should the students show these teachers any more respect than the teachers show their employers?
Unions killed the Steel Industry and the Auto Industry. Unions are killing Education in this nation. Unions partnered with ACORN? Why not.
We will become a nation of bankrupt illiterates within the one term of Obamanation at this rate. A little over 50% of America wanted that. Pretty damn sad commentary on the American voting public.
““You know why we’re here. You know I’m not leaving this rostrum. You know I’m going to keep talking.””
Yes you useful idiot, we know why you’re here…but someone needs to run and get the bagels for the rest of us- thanks for volunteering!
Why do these people look like they are in Venezuela?
You’re right, wrong column. This should have been posted under La Raza with the government officials tied to so many groups who actively campaign to destroy the Republican forms of government.
Good catch and thank you.
Still, it would seem that the teachers and their unions through their participation in the indoctrination of millions of tomorrow’s “leaders” certainly have a share in destroying what is left of our great nation.
This would be the same California teacher’s union that spent $1 million lobbying against Prop. 8…”for the kids.”
What ever happened to calling the police to quell the riot? It is amazing how little abuse you take when you don’t tolerate it.
This is just the beginning of community organizers siding with unions. Who knows what planning Biden and the AFL-CIO had in Florida last week. I am sure this is just the tip of the iceberg. The unions/feds will wave carrots in front of the teachers just to get them to sign up to the unions. Once America is unionized the red hoards will be next. Its sad to see the United States become socialist. I would have never thought it in a million years. I guess the next thing to do is to go GALT! I see no reason to work anymore.
Gawd it looks like a May day parade with that commie salute!
To point out the obvious. Red Shirts. Red the chosen color of many historical socialists movements… The Soviets, The Chinese, The Nazis. Imagery is an intersting and powerful tool.
Of course Red is also the color in Christianity for Penetcost. Something tells me religion has nothing to do with it.
Okay, simple solution. End the meeting, walk the media to the door and arrest these
peoplecriminals for disorderly conduct. Period. Who’s in charge here? The police are supposed to protect and serve. We all know arrests would be made in front of the media if the protesters were conservatives.
kwyoung said:
My thoughts exactly. Arrest those who have illegally occupied a building – it’s a law, isn’t it?
Yep, once they figured out they can vote themselves freebies. Now they have a Organizer-in-chief willing to go to the mat for them.
PC-ness is killing us. Name any social ill and the cure for it is condemned by the PC crowd.
Having seen this before and howwe did not react, I am of the opinion we have two choices; insist that law and order be enforced or else.
I have no confidence in the former so we are left with “or else.” What “or else” means is that you have to raise even more hell than the other side.
The authorities, at that point, have no choice but to pick their poison. To stand there, let it go, and shake your head is not an option.
Fire extinguishers.
I’m sure it is a law, but the protesters were sucessful in shutting down the meeting. Beyond getting arrested and charged with disorderly conduct, any paid teacher/staffer involved in the protest should be placed on unpaid leave, pending administrative action. I’m sure the court would reduce the charges… probably to community service. What a vicious cycle. They’d be forced to work with ACORN.
I once saw a bumper sticker which read:
“I’d rather be right than politically correct.” I wish I could find that now.
And so it begins. The protesters now have more power than the police.
AND????
I missed the part where the law says police only uphold it if the media is not around. Does that mean as long as we call the media we can do whatever we want?
Golly, who wouldn’t want to retain a teacher willing to commit civil disobedience? What a fine example for the children.
There are probably not any… but, I wonder if any Jewish People who lived in Germany during the 1930’s and were old enough to understand what was going on then… could see what is happening to America now with the Acorn/Union Brownshirts, this Adolph Obama in the Whitehouse..and see any horrifying correlations.
Any liberal who believes Obama’s going to engage in any kind of productive education reform should e-mail me. I’ve got a bridge to sell; it’s a steal at only $500k…
Note the red shirts? It’s like I’ve been saying, ACORN and LaRaza are going to be Obama’s Red Guard on his Great Leap Forward. The domestic “Peace Corps”.
As a former teacher in Los Angeles, I can tell you with absolute certainty that the corruption is much worse than you can imagine it is. Whatever you’ve read, it’s worse.
I taught chemistry (mostly in broken Spanish for the multitude of illegals), and almost everyone failed a dumbed down course. But, it didn’t matter, because they have social promotion. Everyone passes until they get to 12th grade (most quit at that point or before). Where I was, there was a 90% dropout rate. Los Angeles is filled with mostly illiterate people.
When I started teaching in Texas, I was told to pass almost every student, no matter what. I could give no grade lower than a 50. Public school is horrible almost everywhere. Home school your kids if you can, get to private school if you can afford it.
It’s bad out there.
What was it Obama said several months ago? “Get in their faces”?
Just following their leader.
Know your enemy. Those teachers firmly believe they are setting a fine example for the children. They want them to grow up to do the same thing.
Before any education reform can take place in this country, the teachers’ unions have to be destroyed. Until that happens, nothing will change.
Why do you have a picture of a group of hugo chavez supporters on your front page?
Ohhh my bad.
Obama’s Sturmabteilung in action.
BTW
Not when dead wood was cut.
/First grade education- 1 nun, 52 students. And we learned. Or else.
Thus the reason I always cringe when I hear America called a Democracy. A democracy is nothing more than mob rule where 51% of the voters can take away the rights of everybody else.
I guess I’m confused. Why refuse to arrest criminals in the presence of the media?
Political Correctness.
Don’t worry, it doesn’t have to make sense to be politicaly correct.
Ed Mahmoud abu al-Kahoul
1 nun – 52 students – and one gigantic knuckle ruler.
Sorry, but MM is a little confused on this one. The LAUSD cannot choose to fire “useless” teachers. The union contract mandates that any layoffs are based purely on [lack of] seniority. I saw a story yesterday about how officials and others are concerned that the district could lose some its most enthusiastic and effective teachers, while the burned-out ones are untouchable.
Anyway, the real story is that the LAPD is so fearful of bad publicity that it won’t enforce the law when the media is present.
Check out this msnbc poll
it’s just one group of communists helping another. never forget the union movement grew out of the communist collectivism ideology that became prevalent in the 20s and 30s. where did it find it’s most fertile ground, ny and la. so fascist salute your butts off, the downsizing of our education beaurocracy is on the way, just as the downsizing of our vast left wing print media is in full swing. who advertises? those greedy businesses you hate and berate. who pays for the incompetent unions who proclaim to be professional teachers, but who can’t pass a high school proficiency test, those same evil businesses and homeowners and taxpayers. you know, the responsible ones who pay their mortgages, live within their means, and perform at their jobs. so go ask , no demand the gubmint keep paying for you. when the gubmint is broke, you is out on your butt.
Reason 645 to pull your kids out of public school. These Organizers and Activist have more than one agenda: More money – always more money, control of curriculum, a political action base and State control over YOUR children. Make enough noise and they can drive any honest folk from running for School Board.
In the big picture we must push back and take control-the Left’s attacks on on all aspects of Society and so must our counter attacks. BUT-for my grand children there will be no public schools-thankfully I can help there. We have to keep our eye on the private schools too-some are better than others.
But our families are our first responsibilities-grandchildren our reward. If I wasn’t so modest I would tell you about my youngest grandsons baseball game last night and the CATCH, but being humble I won’t.
Be a mother bear–bite the sobs. (more about the CATCH later)

Keep the change-I’ll keep my guns
Why should they have to wait until they are grown?
Students, take note. As soon as your teacher starts to speak, begin chanting. If the teacher tries to speak anyway, move to the front of the room and physically intimidate the teacher. Continue until no work can be accomplished. If you are really successful, you’ll eventually drive all but the worst students out of the school, and we taxpayers can then close it down due to declining enrollments.
It’s your civic duty, kids.
Fire the whole lot.
Sounds like the good old days of teaching in the inner city. Fond memories, indeed.
Just heard a school teacher call in to KABC claiming that her school has to teach Korean to Korean students. Is that so they can be bilingual and qualify for the crappy bilingual program and have their educations destroyed? No English allowed!
Could be my memory is faulty — wouldn’t surprise me — but hasn’t every president in modern times made almost the same speech about education? Seems to me we’ve heard all of Osama Obama’s lofty pronouncements before….
(Well, not all of them have been as condescendingly negative as the child-president.)
What’s different now is that LAUSED’s enrollment is dwindling. Like any other government entity, the school board is simply hell-bent on feathering its own nest, building up its own unnecessary empire.
It would be best to let LAUSD go bankrupt, so the union can be run out of town and all the incompetent teachers and bloated wastrels in the “education business” can be broomed out.
ACORN? Sounds like RICO to me.
Defund this crap now! Then get patriotic Justice Dept. attorneys to employ RICO.
aHHHEMM… The justice department is part of it…
I love this. I’ll bet the police would make arrests PDQ though.
I digress, but my son came home and mentioned that they were saying the Pledge of Allegiance in Spanish for a week. I told him to either sit down, or say it loudly in English – his choice. He sat down on Tuesday, and said that today several of his classmates were going to join him. I know it’s a sin, but…. I am so proud!
Emotionally-damaged adults behaving like children. Big surprise.
As much as it pains me to say it, L’il Johnny Edwards was correct: there are “two Americas”. Adults, and children.
And today, the children are in charge.
Next stop: “Second World” status for the USA. We’ll be the “new France”.
It’s disgusting beyond words what the criminals in GuvMint have done to this country over the last 45 years.
Good Grief! The ChiComs have more free market capitalist cred than the US Govt. does! Go figure! Hilarious!
Tax cuts provide instantaneous and real stimulus for an economy in the real world!

Somehow I don’t think the police would be so powerless if the Tea Party crews were to intrude on a session of congress.
Notice I said PATRIOTIC attornys. Just as there were leftist subversives in the Bush Justice Dept., we have allies on the inside as well. Don’t despair totally. If nothing else we can harass them with rear-guard action.
Congratulations America!
Via the ’stimulus bill’ you have now bought and paid for, a permanent protest mob. Just like the military has a Rapid Reactionary Force to respond to immediate threats around the world, ACORN and all the other lib organizations are now funded well enough to set up a logistical network for rapid protest reactions.
‘Get In Their Face People’ is the mantra. Bureaucrats will no nads or backbone will easily cave under the onslaught.
Usually when you hear something like this going on in CA, you think “well, it’s CA after all, its not like it’s the real world.” These are the folks who gave us the OJ
trialcircus, and those loveable imps the Menendez brothers, who blasted their parents to pieces with shotguns in “self defence”, while said parents were in the menacing act of eating icecream and watching TV.Reality challenged doesn’t quite get it. More like a different reality, which is of course in itself, unreal.
At the risk of getting TXGator on a roll. Public education and the LA teachers union are epic fail. 40% of their graduates are functionally illiterate, so they want more money.
Excuse me, you are in LA. Your education system failed, and there is no money. Next.
You would probably get arrested just for trying to plan it.
The only solution as I see it is to adjourn the meeting, everyone leave the protesters with no one to yell at. Then re-convene at a later date, with notices sent out quietly by e-mail…location to be disclosed right before the meeting. Then, post security guards at the door so that any protesters had to do their thing outside. And by the way, aren’t these creeps supposed to get permits before gathering to protest? Haul their a$$es to jail!
If a business had 50% of it’s products fail they would be out of business.
But then this is LAUSD and is par for the course.
OT and will sound werid but I have to share. I have been feeling like the world is under preasure for some time, but growing at an increasing pace in the last week or so. I feel like something is going to happen and I don’t know what. Too many options. The last time I felt like this was in mid 2001.
/Sonofdys weridness off
BTW thank god the dow is going up for now at least.
These are not teachers. They are propagandists who instill leftist drivel in their students, crippling them for the rest of their lives. I live in the Bay Area. The Oakland teachers’ union is similar to the LA bunch. Teachers in Oakland routinely take their students out of class to “protest” one thing or another. On several occasions, these “students” have gone on rampages of looting, and beating people on the street. Not surprisingly, these “students” come from the worst performing schools.
Oakland offered my sister in law 50k a year to START teaching there.
She said she is not that desperate to have a job. I agreed.
Some of you didn’t read the whole story. The board did relocate to another room, so the mob did not stop the meeting from proceeding.
The more I hear things like this, the more I believe we should insist that Southern California leave the union. Seriously. Just the southern portion of the state where the majority are illegal aliens anyway. And Hollywood! They do not have any of the values that this country was founded on, and has been our foundation for over 200 years. Their entire belief system is in complete opposition to a decent, moral society. They are bringing the rest of the country down. Anyone who wants to leave that part of the state should relocate to the north or another state by a certain date. Then, shut them down. And build a wall. If they want to do business with the U.S., they will have to do it as a foreign country and all that entails.
Sorry, I didn’t read the whole story. Pretty swamped today. But glad to hear that the meeting continued. I will go back and read it all when I get the chance.
From yesterday:
Strange how the MSM failed to cover an event with thousands protesting taxes but they cover 20 teachers having a fit at a meeting.
Look at what it took to get out of the mess our congress of 1933 created for us. I hope it does not come to that but …
The DOW increase yesterday was just a short term fix by professional investors and not sustainable as it is not reflective of the overall market according the reports I have seen.
If there is any consolation at all in that, it is what ultimately happened to the brown shirts when the Waffen SchutzStaffel took over.
Yeah, their own evil inclinations and actions will be what does them in eventually.
I bought more canned goods yesterday. Ralph’s had veggies on sale for $.69-$.99 per can. And now they have “Use By” dates printed on the tops so it will be easier to rotate them. (You’d think that we Jews would be better organized at survivalist issues but Mormons have the edge on preparing for long term interruptions of goods and services. Thank God they post that stuff on the Internet!)
And I got the stuff for my compost setup (including a pitchfork – surprised CA legis. had’s outlawed them – LOL – and a few more seeds and starter pods.
Same here, been doing it about a year now
Don’t wait for Republicans to do anything about this. A party run by Chatsworth Osborne Jr-type effete Connecticut Yankee country clubbers (think Dobie Gillis) is only good for making sure the hired help polishes the silverware.
Thats why I said, FOR NOW.
I have a Mormon cousin who I met on-line as I was doing genealogy queries. She has been giving me good advice on how to prepare.
why not arrest them in front of the news camera and frog march them out for the whole world to see.
Dose this mean we can now go to their homes and occupy their living rooms. This is why i pay to send my daughter to private school.
Mormons are SUPPOSED to have a 2 year supply per family, in thier own homes.
By church doctrine.
They are also great genealogists and my cousin has given me a ton of information. She is really a great person and we have corresponded for years. Our Mormon connection goes back to the 1700’s when our common ancestor had 16 kids. I am descended from one who got us to Minnesota and Christianity. She is descended from one who grew up with, and played as a child with, Joseph Smith in Sharon, Vermont and followed him to Illinois, and then met Brigham Young and followed him to Utah, where this cousin currently lives. And by the way, she has given me the information that shows Orin Hatch is my 8th cousin, once removed. Ugh.
happyscrapper: Orin Hatch may be your 8th cousin, once removed but the important thing is that he IS removed. That’s a good thing.
Well, OK. The school board can’t do business. Shut down the schools. Send the teachers home. That’s going to save a lot of money.
I’m happy to say that in my school career I gave more than I got.
But really, a 5 hour a day job with about 4 months off is so oppresive, and now they care about quality? The nerve…
Ha! Excellent point!
Hey happyscrapper, in lieu of an appropriate gift for Gordon Brown, lets give him Southern Cal! Instead of Hollywood DVD’s, we could give him Hollywood! Two birds – One stone.
True, it’s called ‘last one in, first one out’.
Love the idea. One can dream!
