Lamest billboard ever

(Thanks to Don Surber for sending photo)
I said last week that Democrat donors ought to question whether the DNC was using its money wisely by indugling in an anti-Rush Limbaugh billboard.
See, I told you so. The Christian Science Monitor skewers the results:
New Limbaugh billboard slogan announced – creativity was not considered
Setting a world record today for beating a dead horse, the Democratic National Committee will announce they’ve selected an anti-Rush Limbaugh slogan to be placed on a billboard in the radio host’s hometown.
The DNC began soliciting slogans a week ago in response to Limbaugh’s well-known statement that he wants President Obama to fail.
“If you’re anything like me, then you’ve had the urge to talk back to a right-wing talk radio host more than a few times. Now you can,” reads an email blast from the executive director of the DNC. “Can you help us come up with a message for Rush that we’ll place on a billboard right in his hometown?”
The envelope please
That message has apparently been decided. CNN is reporting that the billboard will say, “Americans didn’t vote for a Rush to failure.”
Apparently, more than 80,000 slogans were emailed in and astonishingly all were somehow deemed worse than that one.
FAIL.

Americans didn’t vote for Rush. Period.
Truly idiotic.
EPIC FAIL.
Americans didn’t really vote to communize America either, but we’re getting it anyway.
Ha! I’d take Rush as President over Odopey any day.
Dumba$$ Voters 08, thanks for the zero.
Wonder what would happen if we started putting up billboards attacking individual democrats? Not elected officials, just-oh, I don’t know-run of the mill democrat bloggers?
The funny thing is, they actually think this will have some impact on Rush Limbaugh or his listeners.
The ironic thing about this billboard is that most people may actually think it’s aimed at Obama.
Yeah – have they ever heard there’s no such thing as bad publicity? I wonder if Rush’s numbers have gone up?
Dems have no sense of humor. EPIC FAIL!
This is reported to be the best of 80,000 entries. pffttt… If the lefties can’t curse and spew vile invective, they’re rendered mute.
Sounds pro-Rush to me…can’t wait to hear what El Rushbo has to say about it…no doubt he’s going to have fun with it.
Funny thing is the DNC knows they backed a turd in the White House. Just won’t say it out loud. dipsticks.
Actually, more than half of them did. They may not have intended to, but they did nonetheless.
When you think about the double entendre it is quite amazing and shows the leftists haven’t half the brain they think they have (which they demonstrate here quite regularly if anyone needed additional proof).
Then why is Barack Obama RUSHING toward an EPIC FAILURE with all his policies and all his appointments?
Conservatives should put up billboards with this message:
“Barack Obama – Rushing toward FAILURE every day with your money!”
I’ve only listened to Rush during long road trips, but with this attack by the Dems against free speech I’m certainly going to make an effort to tune in now and then.
I’m with TexasRainmaker – I think those flying past a bill board with that slogan is going to think just the exact opposite of what they hoped. Too cute and way too clever sometimes gets lost in translation.
But Americans did in fact vote for a rush to failure — when they voted for the boob now in office! He’s hurtling us all headlong down the tubes at breakneck speed!
Billboards are not that expensive. I’ll go in with a group wanting to put one up.
It is more subtle than the “Rush Limbaugh is a big, fat poopy-head” which means the intended message will be completely lost on most Dems that see it, many who will probably take it as an attack on Obama.
American
didn’tdid vote for a rush to failure………His name is Obama,There, fixed it.
Darn, you beat me to it!
Just for those who voted for Obama, live in Rio Linda, etc.
What the *&^% is with this Rush’s ‘home town’ rubbish? Are they putting it up in Florida? Where is it supposed to be?
His home town is Cape Girardeau.
This lot of lunatics would screw up a wet dream.
Tex-rainmaker, I agree with you. This billboard sounds more like an anti-Obama or anti-government billboard. I agree with the slogan in that most Americans were not voting for a bunch of numbsculls whose policies are rushing us into a complete economic failure. But we are not only failing economically, American diplomats sound like idiots as well and we have already alienated many of our strongest alies.
Unfortunately, I think this billboard idea will be dumped like so many other ideas and candidates from zero. If it ever sees the light of day, there should be a follow-up slogan: We didn’t vote for this, lets throw these bums out of office!
“America didn’t vote for a rush to failure…………………..
…………but with Adolph Obama, thaty’s exactly what they got!!!!’
Bbama – “The Failure in Chief”
Of those 80,000 submittals, how many were tossed out because conservatives were yanking the Dems’ chain? *smile* Mine surely was tossed out: “Rush Limbaugh: Best Patriot and True Voice of America.”
I received this email message from Jen O’Malley Dillon at Democrats.org on Tuesday with the Democrats Top Five choices:
“Last week, I asked if you had a message you’d like to send Rush Limbaugh. The response was overwhelming. We received tens of thousands of submissions, and we picked the top five:
“Americans didn’t vote for a Rush to failure”
“Hope and change cannot be Rush’d”
“Failure is not an option for America’s future”
“We can fix America, just don’t Rush it”
“Rush: Say yes to America”
Yeah, I thought mine was better, too.
Like the “de-facto” leader of the Dem party George Soros???
By sayng that most Americans didn’t vote for these numbsculls and their policies, I mean that most Americans didn’t realize how bad these politicians were. I think many are surprised at the level of incompetence in the White house, Senate, and Congress. Even many of the readers here knew these people were bad news but didn’t realize just how fast they would screw up our country.
I hope the DNC keeps spending their money on idiocy like this. Less money for them in the future. And this is supposed to do what exactly?
Even the liberal Camille Paglia in her recent article in Salon said that the Obama team is looking like a bunch of snarky frat boys. Picking a fight with a private citizen. It’s going to backfire if it hasn’t already.
Funny, Carville said the same thing in 2001 about Bush (he wanted him to FAIL), but the folks in the Bush Administration had more class, obviously.
53% of america think we are headed for a depression. is that the same 53% who voted for this community organizer, or have 6% of those leg tinglers already figured out that this guy hasn’t a clue. running the country isn’t the same as smearing your competitors. you need to hire rush as an adviser barry, or soon you will be joining mr carter building lazy ass people’s houses so they can tear them up.
This feels so jr. high-ish to me….like somthing a bunch of 12 yr. olds would do.
Just sayin’……..
Say what you will about Rush! To put that in perspective: He is not an elected official.
If I had the ability to put up money in stock by virtue of it being available. I would put it on Rush Limbaugh.
Since I do not know of any Liberal, elected or unelected, that I have any faith in at all. I guess I’ll pick an opposition. Say, New DNC Chairman Tim Kaine. Kaine is riding a wave of the worst case of thuggery in the form of socialism Illinois style gone national I have seen in my lifetime. I believe it will over reach and destroy what he says is good for me.
I know better what is good for me.
Rush tells me so, and I believe him.
Wow! I’m blown away! Those libs are geniuses! I’ve been listening to Rush for 10 years now, but that billboard has convinced me of the error of my ways.
(/sarc)
(PS: libs truly suck at everything they attempt.)
I was hoping my “RUSH DOWN TO THE GUN STORE BEFORE THE PRESIDENT SUCCEEDS” would win.
Oh well, maybe they’ll have one for Michael Steele, then I can submit “STEELE HOPING FOR CHANGE I CAN BELIEVE IN.”
I see they didn’t choose my two submissions:
1. “Rush is Right”
2. “Hitler killed free speech. Why can’t democrats? Rush must be silenced!”
They sure did Rush to elect an inexperienced PUTZ in office who never showed his hand voting “present” over 100 times. The writing was all over the wall what Odopey had planned and stupid voters, dead voters and illegal voters put this scam artist in the White House.
Odopey is NO better than Madoff.
The way I read it is that they admit we are rushing to failure. My sentiments exactly.
Can WE put up a billboard? How about a picture of Obama hugging Pelosi with the slogan
STUCK ON STUPID
How is this a failure? The Democratic strategy is to make Rush Limbaugh the face of the Republican party. The 30% of Americans who like Rush will vote Republican no matter what. Democrats are hoping that the 70% who disapprove of Rush will vote Democratic. That would be fine with me.
Yes, Rush’s numbers are going up, up, up! Their ad dept. says they are way ahead of last year in $. The Dems talked about how Rush fired the first shot by wanting the new Pres’s policies to fail but the president fired the first shot by calling out Rush’s listeners. He inferred we were mind-numbed robots. I’m thinking he was jealous. Rush fired back. He loves free speech and loves to shock. He says things that, while I might not always agree, I admire him for opening up the debate. Frankly, this billboard is great! Great free advertising for Rush and a great play on words. I’ll go out on a limb and say it was probably written by a Rush fan because it’s just too easy to read it as an indictment of this administration.
Most Demoncrats are Cracked out anyway so they would look at the sign and actually see: ”Elect Democrats and they will pay for your mortgage
You have touched on another failure of this little stunt. Rush lives in the exclusive Palm Beach, which I believe is a barrier island which is reached by a bridge. There are no billboards in Palm Beach. The billboard will be in West Palm Beach, on the mainland. Rush was laughing about this yesterday, that he won’t even see it, it’s not in his community. What a bunch of morons!
how’s your 401k??
See my above post for the failure.
It’s the most ironic thing every that libs are running for cover behind the most unlikely of scapegoats: Rush Limbaugh.
These folks (or is that these people I wanna be Ihatemycountry correct) really don’t know how much free publicity they’re giving Rush and how much of a parody they’ve made themselves.
The Evil party sure knows how to show us.
Making up statistics again?
Great slogan! How about just a picture of the evil queen Pelosi and
Lipstick On A Pig
The Demcrats campaign is a HUGE success. ROTFLMAO. I got to listen to Rush yesterday. In the first quarter of this year after the Democrat attacks, his listeners were up 32% and his adverstising revenue 13%.
Give the DNC credit. They have figured out a way to successfully stimulate something in the private sector.
Maybe they didn’t have room on the billboard, but half of the message is missing… the part that says, “…impeach Obama now”
How is scapegoating Rush Limbaugh a “useful” strategy? Hate to break it to ya, Math Man, but the people who listen to Rush are conservatives. Could you please cite where the 70% is coming from or is this figure another mathematical illusion that you make up when you teach?
Have you ever voted Republican? Have you ever crossed party lines? Having grown up in New York under the Dem tyranny, I voted for the Evil Party once or twice (they were the only ones on the ballot).
We all know that you don’t get Rush and never will. That you don’t like being challenged and like living in a vacuum. Why are you so threatened by Rush anyway? Because he doesn’t like Dear Leader?
Look around dude…. there are many other people besides Rush who don’t “approve” of Dear Leader.
I love when Democrats do ridiculous stuff like this – it exposes their true intolerant nature, and creates a cleavage between them and fair-minded voters that creeps wider and wider w/ each Democrat scandal. Plus now that there are fewer rich people in the world to contribute to Democrat coffers, let’em waste every dollar they’ve got on this kinda schtick; they’ll not have such an easy time replacing that money in this economy.
Likewise, Rush’s numbers keep going up and up; he’s gotta be loving this! It seems Democrats never learn: they’ve tried to pillory Rush several times in just the last five years (from the Swift Boat thing to the manufactured scandal over Michael J Foxx), and it has backfired against them every time.
Keep it up Democrats – show us your true selves!
The failure is, since it’s only been remarked upon oh-I dunno-3 million times? is that Rush is a private citizen. He is a conservative talk show host.
But, just because you’re scared of him (like Sarah Palin scared you and the entire confederacy of dunces that make up the Democratic party), you have to make it personal.
loo-hoo, zah-hers!
This is the best slogan of the 80,000 submitted. No wonder. I’l bet 79,900 and some of the submissions were pro-Rush!
Are increasing Rush’s ratings part of that hope? If Democrats are so bent on ensuring that a private citizen is the face of the Republican party, you might not want to drive more attention there. For every extra independent that starts listening to Rush, that’s one more potential convert.
Even in your most fevered imaginings where Rush is the epitome of all that is evil, you’ll never see 100% rejection of his ideas.
This is a losing proposition for Democrats. As you have already stated, the people that already listen to Rush will continue to do so. Those that disliked Rush, will continue to do so. However, there’s no way that you can be certain that all previous non-listeners who now tune in to hear him will disagree.
End game: Rush has more followers.
That’s a failure to the DNC.
Who are they calling Americans…Acorn? Far left Liberals? They don’t even know what America means. What about the rest of the Americans that didn’t vote for Obama? Are we not Americans too? I think using “Americans” is to general. We will call you Socialist-Americans or communists and we will call ourselves Patriot Americans or conservatives.
What would the democrats say (actually, can you imagine what the media would say/do?) if the RNC ran a billboard contest about AlGore to put up in Tennessee?
How much does a billboard cost?
I’m thrilled if the DNC does this. Its $X that will not be spent directly on a Democratic 2010 candidate. Not that they are short of money, stimulus money and all.
They might wonder why we were paying attention to a man whose relevancy faded long ago, even for them.
…but I get what you’re saying with regards to attacking a private citizen. A difference here is that Rush enjoys the extra attention.
It isn’t just admirers who listen to Rush. Plenty of people listen who do not agree with him. I’m sure the DNC has him on so they can “monitor” him.
It’s scary and spooky that the same people who didn’t like the gov’t listening to phone calls to suspected terrorists don’t like free speech when it disagrees with them.
I ran across the following looking for some numbers on Limbaughs current radio ratings:
LOL
Here’s my suggestion for the billboard:
Rush is Right, Obama is Left
America, do you know where you are?
ManBearPig would be crying in his granola. Katie Couric would interview him wearing his Nobel medal (if it still fits around his fat neck).
How about?
Rush To Find Out Where Your Civil Liberties Are
Yes, Air America could not compete in the marketplace so the gov’t is now talking about “local ownership”. Hmmm.
Me thinks they are going to try and foist the stinky Air America people on us through “government stimulated local ownership”.
Congenital negativity is so deeply ingrained in the liberal mind that — in spite of it’s ostensible “intellect” — it is unable to see it. Specifically, note the negative formulation: “American’s didn’t…”.
It’s just like that moronic bumper sticker they all loved so much a few years ago: “War is not the answer”.
Actually, American’s don’t want to be told what “not” to do, or what “isn’t” the answer.
They want to know what the answer is, not what it isn’t.
79,000 of the slogans submitted were probably from Rush fans like me. I submitted a couple.
But the DNC was obliged to waste their money, so guess what?
As a professor of Graphic Communication, my professional opinion is that if one of my students created this for a class project it would receive an F. The slogan does not communicate the message properly, especially since they’re using all caps for the text. If they wanted to communicate that they were talking about Rush Limbaugh, they should have set the type to ensure that the ‘R’ in Rush was the only capital letter to help properly enforce the proper name. As it stands now you can easily interpret this billboard as a Republican ad criticizing Obama for his fast-paced dive towards failure in just his first two months.
The other problem with this billboard is the image, while regular listeners to Rush Limbaugh know he’s a cigar aficionado there are several infrequent and non-listeners that have no idea Rush loves to indulge in premium cigars. So, by not having his image on the board, and instead substituting a body stand-in, that looks more like James Bond than Limbaugh – sorry Rush – the ad looses all focus and the message remains unclear.
So much for the party of the great communicator.
BTW I took a quick informal poll, I call up a few colleagues, my parents (both Rush listeners), and even my wife. I asked them a simple question, “If I told you a new billboard was being put up today in Dallas that had a headless picture of someone smoking and said WE DIDN’T VOTE FOR A RUSH TO FAILURE, which political party would you think paid for the ad and at whom do you think the message is intended?”
All of them said the same thing, Republicans and Obama. You see, most people know Obama smokes, and because I phrased it like that (and in one email wrote it all in caps) the message takes on a completely different focus, one that should cause the DNC to scrap this media buy immediately.
That is a great idea for a billboard right next to the dnc one! I would put money on that!
Or, someone could climb up on that billboard and paint over the n’t and change the word to “did”.
I also like the idea of saying, “Yes, this is THAT cigar!” Don’t know who had that idea but it was great!
Shh… Let’s not help the DNC.
We like this billboard just the way it is.
Did the DNC even consider that they’re putting a slogan on a billboard that implies that Obama is rushing toward failure? The folks that listen to Rush will laugh at it, the Dems that don’t listen to Rush anyway will pat themselves on the back and congratulate themselves for being clever, and everyone that is unfamilliar with current events will think Obama is being insulted. The Obama font is a nice touch too. Keep pointing the gun (you’d like to ban) at your foot DNC, the 2010 election is still a long way off!
Rush is probably less concerned with the intent of the billboard than he is about the cigar they have him holding.
Chances are it is NOT a La Flor Dominicana Double Ligero Chisel!
jsr thank you for reminding me how the rosie odonnel/minnesota midget challenge to right wing extremist radio was working. let’s see, rush’s program frew 32% from a base of 20m, and air america clings to life in about 5 bastions of communism across these fruited plains. yeah, that group poses such a threat they have to bribe the political wing to reintroduce the nonfreedom of speech doctrine, because the propaganda wing is clearly failing. is any msm propaganda outlet growing? if so, they are hiding their success under a bushel.
HEEE, HEEEEE, HEEEEE!!! I was wondering when the DEMS would do what they do best… Now they have… They formed their firing squad for OL’ RUSH and as usual IT’S A CIRCLE… JEEEEEZ I have been waiting for this since November…
Rush would truly love your post!
It’s a failure for a couple of reasons:
1) For the POTUS to get into a brawl with a private citizen, any private citizen, is an admission of weakness. It cheapens the office and makes the President look like a bully. And when you mix it up with a vocal critic like this it makes it look like you’re afraid of what he has to say.
2) 70% of Americans may not like Rush, but they also don’t like the government trying to silence critics. The more people see these Chicago thug tactics in action the more they’ll come to recognize what they put in office.
3) Reasons 1 & 2 would be true any time, but add in our very real, very immediate national problems and it looks like the President is wasting his time on a petty personal squabble while the country collapses around him.
4) Finally, Rush is an entertainer. He thrives on publicity, any publicity. Putting up this billboard is nothing but free advertising for a man they should be ignoring.
But you keep right on fantasizing that this juvenile little tiff is going to make people forget a trillion dollars flushed down the toilet of lefty social engineering.
Also remember this getting more people to listen. And the longer they listen, the more that they learn the truth.
If you only listen to the soundbites, you aren’t getting the message.
Congratulations Rush! If the dem’s hate and fear you more than Mike Steele you are obviously doing something right!
Keep using your “Talent on loan from GODDD!”
I think the DNC should take this ad campaign nation wide. I Love it LOL Where else could you see the competition putting up ads for our side … and thinking they were putting up an ad against us … and not being able to tell the difference.
If that is not an open ended message I do not know what is and the double entendre is also priceless.
Go national with this campaign please! Think of all the children … I mean illegal aliens … I mean Americans that could be put to work for this campaign on a national level!
The DNC could actually create more jobs than B Hussein O has.
Wow…if “Americans didn’t vote for a rush to failure,” then why is Obamalamadingdong cramming a sure-fire failure of a “stimulus” and “economic recovery” spending colossus down our throats at breakneck speed? Niiiiiice job, libs. Evidently, you *are* a rush to epic failure.
*out*
The first thing I thought when reading the billboard was Obama too! Funny that! The Dems really stepped in it now. LOL!
BEST. BILLBOARD. EVER!
“American’s didn’t vote for a Rush to failure”……..
Add this under
But that’s what they got Nov 4th 2008
So why do Pelosi/Reid/Pbo keep RUSHing things through the “legislative” processes?
Just a question.
Yep – that’s pretty bad.
But not as bad as a Pro-Life party having a Pro-Choice leader – now that’s failure I can rush to.
Apparently we *did* vote for a Rush to failure.
What are you talking about? Any idea?
I wrote that same slogan on Michelles blog a couple of weeks ago. Funny though, it was meant as a jab at Obamas failure.
I read that billlboard and think, yes Obama is rushing us into failure. Slow down. Think about what you are doing, We didn’t vote for your current failing policies. The Rush part was a parody of another failed strategy of going after Rush. 80,00 entries and they choose a confusing one.
Someone should put up a billboard right behind it with something cute like:
Impeach Obama now!
Throw the bums out!
Stimulate this!
Unfortunately though, we did vote for Obama!
But Democrats did!
So why is Obama doing all these stupid things!
If it ain’t Barack, don’t fix it!
Stop watching American Idol and pay attention to who you vote for!
Every time ILMC posts, its just reinforces what we all know about it…16 year old playing with daddy’s computer!!
I logged on to the dnc web site and submitted the slogan:
Rush: Free speech in action
I guess they didn’t like that one.
I’m so heartbroken.
Too funny! When I saw the billboard on the homepage, I thought it was a “joke” billboard, so I clicked over to see what the real winning slogan was. How can anyone take this as anything but being critical of Obama and his policies?! I bet the person who submitted it is laughing his/her ass off. ‘Fess up. Which one of you did this? (Wonder if the winner got his/her winning t-shirt yet?) I think someone should find out who won, and determine if (1) they are a complete and total idiot, or, more likely (2) someone playing a colossal joke on the Dems.
Try sticking to the subject.
Yes, Michael Steele has been squishy as RNC chairman. Many conservatives here want him gone. What’s your point? He won’t last long with his inability to state his views.
He did respond to the quote to which you’re obviously eluding:
Besides, I thought Democrats were trying to convince the nation that Rush is the leader of the Republican party, not Michael Steele. In either case, neither is. The RNC chairman is no more the head of the party than Howard Dean is the head of the Democratic party.
Just so long as we’re clear that rushing to failure is on your agenda. Objective achieved.
Or is it that you are opining that abortion is a failure?
Sorry folks – here’s the background information:
“Micheal Steele’s position on abortion rights. He said he was pro-choice. Well, pro-choice until he put a statement out saying he was pro-life.”
Here’s the exchange:
Steele: “The choice issue cuts two ways. You can choose life, or you can choose abortion. You know, my mother chose life. So, you know, I think the power of the argument of choice boils down to stating a case for one or the other.”
DePaulo: “Are you saying you think women have the right to choose abortion?”
Steele: “Yeah. I mean, again, I think that’s an individual choice.”
DePaulo: “You do?”
Steele: “Yeah. Absolutely.”
Nice pick for RNC head (smiling)
http://voices.washingtonpost.com/thefix/2009/03/steele_steps_in_it_again.html?hpid=news-col-blog
Yes, Michael Steele gave a squishy answer, but that doesn’t mean he’s pro-abortion.
The question was: “Are you saying you think women have the right to choose abortion?”
NOT: “Do you believe women should have the right to choose abortion?”
According to the current laws, the answer to the former question is “Yes”. The answer to the latter is “No” (according to his response later).
Wishing he’s pro-abortion doesn’t make him so. The gaffe is in expressing himself unclearly, not that he holds a pro-abortion view.
This slogan has a certain lgm-ishness about it.
Priceless! Crikey, you didn’t win the highly coveted DNC T-shirt for this winning slogan?
The Communists think the USA is “imperialist” and they want to bring “an Empire to its knees”.
I want the Communists to fail.
Barack Hussein Obama is a Communist, like his parents and grandparents before him, and like his “family friend” Bill Ayers.
So,
1) Communists want to bring the USA to its knees
2) I want the Communists to fail
3) Barack Hussein Obama is a Communist
4) Therefore, I want Barack Hussein Obama to fail. I do not want his Communist plans to succeed.
There is no shame in saying that.
And it has absolutely nothing to do with the color of his skin.
The real racists are the people who bring his skin color into the conversation, when this is not about the color of his skin, but rather the content of his character.
