And why were they in such a tizzy about it when McCain’s plan suggested it?
This was coming for some time. Could see it a mile away. The rest of the story will be IF you use government sponsored health care plan, no tax. Use “private” health insurance, tax.
The other thing coming will be to remove the non-tax benefit of health care savings accounts.

McCain got crucified for this becasue that POS Biden continually mispresented the proposal. The idea was to remove the exclusion, which is a World War II anachronism, and to provide a corresponding tax credit that would help to finance families’ purchase of individual, portable policies. I think it would have created some genuine competition to drive down costs of insurance, and it would have certainly improved the problem of portability.
It appears that Obama looks to tax without the corresponding credit.
We’re screwed.

I’m already bracing for 60% of my income to be confiscated.

And another industry will bite the dust. Private insurance will dwindle to the point that thousands will be unemployed. I’m shocked ‘Bambi hasn’t mandated that any company laying off workers will have to put them through a re-training program at the company’s expense, cutting further into profit.

Obama says the economy isn’t as bad as he thought it was. Now, he wants to make it worse. How can the consumer spend, when they have no money? It is all going to the government. Now he wants to tax the health benefits. This sets up national healthcare, a worthless and dangerous program. It will be tax-free if you join, and if you don’t, your private program will be taxed. Anyone here want to wait 4-6 months to see a specialist if you’re sick, or be denied medicine because a panel of lawyers say you don’t need it, or too expensive? Don’t think it will happen? Look at other countries’ healthcare programs. They’re disasters.
As alluded to several times now Obama wants tax cuts on everything including 1st born sons , however, he always votes present when ask and say’s he won’t (read can’t) stand in the way of congress.
Everyone should have had a clue when the unemployment payments are tax.
Taxes such as Death taxes on personal property that have been taxed so many times amounts the same as “you own nothing”, Everything is rented from the Government during your lifetime.

BlameAmericaLast, I fled CA 14 yrs. ago and never looked back. Always thought that when I’d need an ocean fix or Sierra fix I could visit. The visits get fewer and farther between. There is life after Calif..& with any luck, there will be life after ‘Bambi. But, because the invasion from other countries is not going to get smaller, but bigger, I’m glad to be out of there. Also, you may have to take a reduction in salary, but with cost of living cheaper and huge govn’t programs to support it should just about even out.

Will welfare recipients be taxed on their welfare money, free housing, food, transportation before others are taxed on earned (and paid–contributed) medicare health benefits. How about earned (and paid) BlueCross/BS and Tricare?

The Liberals have been after that for years-at least a good portion of them. More than anything it will give them more Power over the population-Power more than revenue is their plan. Why do they want to take our IRAs, 401s, state controll of pre-school and kindergarten? Power, always Power.
We are NOT dealing with people who just want to “make the world a better place”-they want to wipe the slate clean and create a New Man. And as with Lenin, Stalin and Mao they don’t care how many Unrepentant Capitalist, Kulaks or Bible Thumping Bitter Clinging Gun Nuts they have to kill to do it.
Power, always Power–revenue is always second. Go along-get along and maybe they will not come for me? Resist or collaborate, there is no middle ground and we fool ourselves if we think otherwise. Resist and they will cut off your health benefits, collaborate and it won’t be much better.

Someone mentioned taxing the wind. Well, I saw on Fox (Friday I think) where they are going to start taxing farmers for the dust they raise when they plow or harrow. I nearly fell off my couch at that one.

There is no such thing as a “temporary tax”. The taxes on our phone bills were put on in 1898 to raise money for the Spanish American War. The tax was to be temporary on Alexander Graham Bell’s newfangled telephone invention and service. It’s still here 110 years later.

My employer will pay 17K this year for coverage for my family of 3. I’ll have to add nearly 4K out of pocket. What do I get for $21,000 of coverage? I get to avoid all medical treatment if at all possible because it will cost me even more if I have to use it. They want to tax this as income? Let me opt out and give me the cash then. I’ll buy catastrophic insurance at 10% of the cost and pocket the difference.

Had conversation with an ER doc yesterday regarding the closing of a clinic on Friday in my community of 13,000, here in the bay area, that went something like this:
Doc: Yeah, we’re going to have more people coming in here [for their healthcare].
Me: And, of course these will be the freebies.
Doc: There’s no place to send them when they need to be referred on, county told us we have to stop sending them patients or we’ll bankrupt them in 6 months.
Me: While we’re all working for to pay for their healthcare. That’s socialized medicine for you!
Doc: I can just see it, at some point in the next 5 years, we’ll be working for free, mandated by some legislation, and then eventually, we’ll all be paid the same, $10/hr., doctors & nurses.
Me: While the lazy continue to sit on their butts and do nothing and we take care of them.

Not the first time he’s broken or twisted a campaign promise.
He said he’s going to tax those making over $250,000 at a higher rate. That affects small businesses more than just about anyone else. Now he says he’s going to give them relief from that by making over $700 million available in loans to them to ease the burden.
So, not only is he going to tax them at a higher rate, he’s going to try to get them further into debt.
This is just more of Barry’s punish those who actually work and earn policies.
Can someone explain to me (since my flu recovery is making my brain dense)…is there any word on if Obama will also go after the tax reduction of employee salary contributions towards their healthcare? I remember working in HR and it seemed we were one of the last to have employee contributions converted to reducing their taxable income.
