Chris Dodd confesses: Yes, I slipped in the AIG bonus protection…’cuz Treasury made me

Via CNN, unscrupulous borrower and No. 1 AIG benefactor Chris Dodd admits that yes, yes, he did support AIG bonus protections before he was against them:
Senate Banking committee Chairman Christopher Dodd told CNN’s Dana Bash and Wolf Blitzer Wednesday that he was responsible for adding the bonus loophole into the stimulus package that permitted AIG and other companies that received bailout funds to pay bonuses.
On Tuesday, Dodd denied to CNN that he had anything to do with the adding of that provision.
CNN isn’t the only one he made the false claim to, according to a reader who phoned his office yesterday. Wendy N. e-mailed:
Dear Michelle: I’ve just recently discovered your web page, and I LOVE IT! It’s a great source of information. Speaking of which, after reading “Chris Dodd: For AIG bonuses before he was against them,” I decided to phone Chris Dodd’s office. Apparently, they’re calling Rich Edson and David Freddeso liars, as the person on the phone insisted that Chris Dodd added an amendment that would NOT allow bonuses to be paid with TARP funds, and that “somebody else” in committee added the exemption, NOT Senator Dodd. Go figure?!

Had he been a Republican, the cries for his resignation would be loud…deafening. It would result in said Republican resigning his office because the Caucus would force him out.

Just saw Dodds do a classic Pol lie. He stated he did not put in the exact language. Because his language had no dates. Of course since the ‘dates’ acted as a qualifier, that would mean that Dodd’s version was even more generous to bonused employees, although he implied otherwise.

I was just thinking about this today. It seems like almost every day he is in some different state at some meeting reading a teleprompter.
I live in CT and have tried to called his office for various issues. When it is a major issue, half the time they put it into a full VM box or answer and put yo on hold and ignore you.
Writing is not much better. The response is not even related to your initial query most of the time.

And there are still some 60% of voters who are desperately holding on to the “hope” that the Moron in Chief has a plan and it will soon all come together. Man, once reality hits them…it is going to be really, really ugly.

The outrage here should NOT be the bonus issue. The outrage should be congress and the president threw OUR money into the mess.
A private company (as far as I can tell) is SUPPOSED to be able to write contracts, and then fulfill those contracts. If the contracts are good, both parties to the contract benefit. If the contracts are bad, one or both parties are worse off. I would prefer that the owners and contract holders sort out who if any were better off.
Lastly – something gives here – the CEO sat on the stand and claimed “outrage” at this…but he’s supposedly receiving only $1 per year for his position. What are the terms of his deferred compensation? Certainly there are some. Does anybody know?

I think this proves they’re trying to do something drastic with the economy. The whole rationale behind giving out the TARP $ was that if we didn’t, they would fail. If the companies are truly in need of the $, they would accept our terms. If they refuse to, they would have no other choice but to deal with their failures. But the fact that he’s concerned that they wouldn’t accept it tells me that it isn’t necessary at all.
THE DEVIL MADE ME DO IT!
And a host of otherwise thoughtful people that lost their mind and thought it “cool” to vote for the black guy.

Nope. Nobody had to do anything to “permit” the AIG bonuses to go through. They are protected by contract law. Dodd proposed an amendment to stop bonuses, but got an earful because such an amendment meant abrogating contracts, and America just can’t do business without binding contracts. People just aren’t getting it. Dodd was, is, and probably will be against the bonuses. The fact that he didn’t realize, after the bailouts passed, that he was powerless to do anything may be of interest, but he is not the big villain in this case. It’s every member of Congress who voted for the Crap Sandwiches.
All of a sudden it’s I did it but the devil made me do it. Doesn’t this just restore your faith in government?

If BHO’s administration is actually to blame then BHO’s claim of not knowing about it until now is:
A. The result of not giving even himself enough time to read the whole bill cuz.. “We have to avoid a CATASTROPHE!”.
B. An admission of his abject incompetence.

And let’s not forget that Dodd is one of those gifted beings who basically INHERITED a Senate seat from his father. He inherited a few other propensities, as well: In 1967 Dodd’s father was censured by the Senate for putting campaign funds to personal use. In addition to the Ethics Committee’s disciplinary action, the press at that time reported that there was good reason to believe his corruption went significantly further.
