The geniuses at AIG rigged the company to explode if the bonuses are not paid in full.

Two things:

First, if you’re referring to this being a “poison pill” for AIG if they reneged the bonus payouts, it isn’t.

At the time the contracts were written, the super-insurer had more than a sufficient amount of cash flow and assets to cover the bonuses. There was never any desire or planning for AIG’s “implosion,” as such thinking was implausible and outside conventional wisdom.

Second, aren’t you the one who’s always advocating for the country and its industries and sciences to be led by “geniuses” only? Given that most of AIG’s top employees have ivy-league educations and we still end-up w/ devastating performances – perhaps you might wanna rethink your stance.

Fannie Mae plans to pay retention bonuses of as much as $611,000 each to key executives this year as part of a plan to keep hundreds of employees from leaving the government-controlled company.

The bonuses are more than double last year’s, which ranged from $200,000 to $260,000.

I just want to know who is trying to hire all these financial employees that would make these companies fear everyone’s going to leave. Where are they going to go… to Lehman Brothers?

With all the financial companies that have gone under or have downsized lately, is there really any reason to worry about a shortage of experts in the field right now? There’s got to be something else going on here to explain the doubling of bonuses in a year when they are losing money faster than Donald Trump at a divorce or a bankruptcy hearing.
