Gibbs on Geithner: “Uhhhh….uhhhh…uhhh”
The Robert Gibbs Live Comedy Hour WH press briefing is on. Press corps is actually pressing Gibbs on Tim Geithner.
A journo asked Gibbs about the Geithner date discrepancies (March 10? March 3?) Gibbs replied, and I quote: “Uhhh…uhhhh…uhhh…uhhh.”
After having made snarky remarks about “his friends on cable TV” in response to a question about Obama’s rotten week, Gibbs then dismissed Geithner questions by offering to give one of the questioning journalists a dollar to read the latest newspaper accounts of the actual chronology today.
Another journo asked why Gibbs himself used the erroneous March 10 date that Geithner is sticking to even now despite the House hearing video that exposes that lie.
More deflection and uhhhs.
It’s all cable television’s fault!

Did all the questions come from Jason Mattera??
And Buuuuush!!
“uhhhh”’s seem to be contagious in this Administration. Nothing a good teleprompter won’t cure.
I think Gibbs was quoting the President in that statement.
That’s code, it means, “I’m lying and you people are supposed to be helping me cover it up. Get with the picture!”
“Uhhh…uhhhh…uhhh…uhhh.”
Must be contagious
I thought it was all bushes fault?
Between these teleprompter malfunctions, microphones turning themselves on, and now erroneous video I think it is safe to say that electronic equipment is now part of the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy.
IT’S THE TELEPROMPTER’S FAULT!
Sorry, could not resist hehehehehe
You must have been submitting while I was still writing.
Paging Baghdad Bob…
Having a bad day? Find a liberal that voted for this clown. Listen to them tell you this guy is polished, intelligent, well-spoken, worldly, understanding, etc.
It’s hilarious. Unprepared and unqualified are the best adjectives I can come up with at the moment. He can’t even be funny.
Some journo’s are gonna get into a heap of trouble if they don’t stick to the template. Asking a question more probing than “coke or pepsi” or Clinton’s “boxers or briefs” could land someone on Gibbs’ s**t list.
Oh what a web we weave….. the house of cards falleth. If our country wasn’t under attack from every vantage point, this would be so frickin’ funny! Nero meets Leno while Rome burns, his stooges blame everything from Bush to the mix-master in the kitchen, and under the Big Top, Congress dons its bright red wigs and noses and floppy shoes to govern (rule) as if they were the court of King George III. To arms! To arms! He he.
Gibbs’ standard answer “aaaahh, I’llaaaa, uhhhhh, aaaahhh, I’llaaaaa hafta get back to you that.”
The evil George W. Bush used a Jedi mind trick on “TurboTax Timmy” and forced him to lie!
Okay, well maybe it was Karl Rove…
I am encouraged seeing some of the reporters asking good questions for a change.
George Bush looks smarter everyday compared to these clowns.
Can we petition for a recall election of Barack Obama? Really, there is enough evidence of misfeasance and incompetence to remove him from office. This cannot go on any longer. This President and Congress are a national disgrace. Time for a real change before we’re all dead.
If we could only catch The One pulling a Blago: Hey, you wanna be the f#@%ing Commerce Secretary? How much will you give me?
Right now Gibbs is wishing that he had flunked the vetting process. Ooh! That’s right! There was no vetting process! He should have made up some weird skeleton in the closet that would’ve netted him a better cabinet position than being mouthpiece for the Mouse That Roared!
You’re in a better place than I. Words like clumsy, stumbling, bumbling, inept, catastrophic and disastrous keep coming to my mind.
You’re doing a great job Brownie
erTimmyer Gibbsy.sims & TXGator
I’m thinking ‘oaf’
‘boor’
‘galumph’
sims, don’t worry. Only 3 years and 10 months to go, possible 7 years and 10 months. What’s the worst that can happen? America falls apart? We’ll probably still have “Post-American Idol”.
That uneasy feeling you have? Totally justified. It just means you have logic and knowledge in your arsenal.
I never thought anyone could make me pine for the good ole days of the Clinton presidency.
wighttrasch, the problem is you are thinking. Try feeling. The liberal way is to feel. Go pitch a fit when you don’t get your way. Have a good cry. Don’t work for something you want, whine and moan about how unfair it is you don’t have it. Cry discrimination. Blame your parents or your boss for your mistakes. Blame the government for your mortgage that you signed. Get the idea?
Don’t worry that Obama is talking to our enemies but not our allies. Don’t worry that he’s cutting military spending.
What could go wrong?
I just want to know one thing.
What’s “he” doing this weekend. Catchin Air Force One to Chicago to shoot hoops with the homeboys. Oh wait…
Maybe everybody’s commin’ to the White House for some wagyu bar-b-que and watch the championship.
No he’s not. He is eliminating certain weapons programs (and one can argue the wisdom of that), but his budget for the DoD is like 13 billion more than last year.
Gibbs is no Tony Snow. Gosh, I miss him, he could at least talk and knew what he was talking about.
L
Is he lowering the amount it was supposed to be raised? Because, in the liberal playbook, that’s a ‘cut’. And, I don’t think we know what Obama (and Congress) is going to do just yet. I wonder if he does.
What’s the over/under on when Timmy is going to be staring up at a set of Michelins?
How about the Flibberty Gibbslet?
The media is like a pack of sharks that have been swimming along providing cover and protection to a nice, yummy blue whale, trying to help it get to where it wants to go.
However, the whale is starting to bleed. The sharks really want to keep protecting the whale, but now that there is blood in the water their instinct tells them …………..
Let’s hope they follow their instincts; a free society needs them.
A glitch in the ‘maTrix? Blasphemer!
No. He is raising it the exact amount the Bush admin had projected raising it this year. Perhaps you are thinking of the “la-la-land-lets-fund-sharks-with- freaking-laser-beams-on-their-heads “proposed budget” the brass submitted.
TXGator…
yeah, tried that feelie stuff. Didn’t work out so well.
I have surrendered my soul to sarcasm.
Actually TXGator here in Wisconsin if our gov’t “lowers the amount a budget item was going to be raised” it is called a budget cut and sometimes a spending cut. We are looking at a budget deficit of close to 6Bil$. I’m thinking that the Feds use the same logic when talking about budget “cuts”.
Obama might as well replace Gibbs with his Teleprompter. But, of course, if he did, his Oneness would have to be totally incommunicado during all daily press briefings.
Hey chap, we could really use those sharks with laser beams on their heads (check Flyoverman’s comment #33).
bmac727, we could replace Gibbs with Porky Pig. He would be just as smooth and better looking to boot.
*It’s the teleprompter; It’s a 2009 Jack Bauer Deluxe covert model; And it was worth every penny!
Everytime I see this guy I think there must be a tune playing quietly in the background, “…if I only had a brain…”
wighttrasch, sims, Exactly what I’m saying….in liberalese, a cut is what happens when the funding isn’t raised enough. In my nonexistent utopia, feelings are trumped by facts every single time.
chap, I’ll be the first to thank Barack if he keeps our military well-funded. I hated to hear of him speak of making war-wounded vets use their own insurance. He’s since backed off, but he is scaring me when he doesn’t take care of our military. They are the best of us, and their sacrifice should be appreciated. Don’t assume I agree with Bush on anything in particular, especially military stuff. I’m not crazy party line guy. If Barack does something great in my eyes, I’ll give him all the credit. I’m rooting for him, because he is responsible for our country. I just know that a lot of his policies and actions, throughout history, have led to troubled times. You can’t possibly think the first two months have gone well, but it is early.
Are there any terrorists in the ocean? ‘Cause that would be pretty cool.
In Gibbs’s defense… is there *anyone* who could defend this administration?
I think we’re beyond that already; I’m finding myself in a position I never thought I would, confronted with an administration that has somehow managed in less than 2 months to make Jimmy Carter’s presidency seem favorable by comparison.
You get what you vote for.
The press sec’s job is to get the White House’s message out to the public and yet it seems that Gibbs likes to obfuscate and joke and notanswer questions instead of using his time to get the message out (whatever that message is or needs to be). Is he not getting the info. he needs to do his job or is he out there as a distraction to the public? It sounds kind of “Conspiracy Theory”ish but just saying…
No I did not.
drivingjack, I didn’t get what I voted for.
Uh, mm, uhm, well, uh, I just, uh, wanted to, uh, say, that Gibbs uses, uh, the “uh” word more than, uh, ANYONE in, um, history, except for, uh, his, you know, uh, boss. The, uh, one with, uh, the jugears. Uh. Umm. Uh. akdsjfalz…
The worst thing, uh, about Gibbs, is, uh, he went to college where, uh, I did. I, uh, am thinking about writing the, uh, president of Auburn University, and, uh, asking him to, uh, ask Gibbs for, uh, his diploma back. He, uh, OBVIOUSLY failed at, uh, public speaking.
I have a confession to make. Somehow or other, I ended up at a blog by a person named Glenn Greenwald. Ewwwww … I still feel dirty. If you really have to know how low the lefty liars will sink, look up the URL.
The term you guys are looking for is “baseline budgeting.” Look here for a good definition. Basically, an increase of less than a previously projected increase is a “cut.” Only in Washington, DC…
http://www.cagw.org/site/PageServer?pagename=policy_Baseline_Budgeting
The President Uhbama Administration, ladies and gentlemen.
Hmm
President Barack Uhbama
P. B. Uh.
pbuh
Now where do we see that group of letters together in that order?
Quite Frankly NO!
I got something that I NEVER Voted for as did almost 50%of America
It’s not a teleprompter or a right wing conspiracy or anything else. The uh’s come from THEM.THEY don’t know what they are doing. It is a clown show and they have all the cover they need from what is now a worthless MSM.
chappie, lol on the laser dolphins, but reality is the continuing resolution for the first 5 months of this fy plus the 410b budget bill assures the dod will receive at least as much as last year. next year is the way to compare. that will be when all three branches are in the hands of pelosi, reid, and obama. 1.8t of deficit spending this year. how much did bush go over budget in his worst year? less than 500b. cbo expects 1t per year deficits for 10 years or more, which means if barry lasts 8 years as potus, he will have doubled the debt accumulated every year since ford was president.
Someone needs to get Gibbs and Obamateur one of those handy dandy secret earpieces like the moonbats accused Bush of wearing during that debate.
Seriously, the unhinged make fun of Bush for the way he speaks? At least he only makes up words now and then. He never sounded like a high school freshman guy asking a college female senior for a date like Gibbs and Obama do.
One thing to remember is that DOD plans to increase the number of troops in FY2010. I can’t find a hard number but if it looks like they were trying to add 20,000 new troops a year over 3 to 5 years.
Recruiting and equipping and training another 20,000 troops on a basically flat budget won’t be easy. If Obama guts the training budget for existing formations he may raise the new brigades but they have the money to train which mean they won’t be able to effectively deploy for combat operations.
The DOD budget is a huge bucket and it is easy to play shell games with such a large number. How the money is allocated is just as important as how much is budgeted.
But soldiers who don’t have money to train will be less effective in combat and will suffer more casualties when deployed because they won’t know their job.
What does Gibby have to say about the S&P 500?
…and a tip of the hat to all of the people that “could
not bring themselves to vote for John McCain” and
stayed home instead of going to the polls!!! No vote
was a vote for this mess!
TXRose,
I didn’t vote for John McCain and I didn’t stay home. I voted for an actual conservative candidate.
I have little doubt that John McCain would be spending nearly as much as Barack Obama. There was nothing in his recent past to indicate he would be doing otherwise.
The GOP is only the fiscally conservative party when they are out of power. Recent history proves this.
I had expected this administration to be a joke, but did anyone expect it to be this obvious so quickly?
This is a lengthy citation, but about 2/3rds of the way down is a post about George W. Bush’s intelligence, under a heading about Bumper Stickers.
http://pajamasmedia.com/ejectejecteject/?s=bush
Probably because of his speaking style, Bush was stereotyped as someone who wasn’t too intelligent. However, this article makes it clear that anyone who could fly the Air Force fighter that he did is no dummy. My boss is a former Air Force pilot, and he has told me on plenty of occasions of wannabe pilots who washed out.
I always thought that if Bush went against either Gore, Kerry, and I would now add Obama in a round of Jeopardy that Bush would clean their clocks.
While I give him marks for intelligence, I was awfully disappointed in his judgment towards the end of his second term (and that same could be said for many Ivy League products).
That rumble you hear is the rest of the world laughing their butts off!
No POTUS without TOTUS!
It appears that the Joke is on Us, as well as the tab for Wednesday Night bashes and $900 million for Palestinian Terrorist Nation Building, cash for ACORN and the Usual Suspects.
Obama & Crew have managed to get record debt piled up, throw borrowed cash around like Mardi Gras beads and generally mismanage everything they touch.
Competence is boring 8-/
Oh, and Gloria Steinem is hot !!!
This whole gambit of getting the people ginned up has taken a really bad turn. More like a boomerang, wouldn’t you say.
There is one truth now, and no amount of PRAVDA spin will contain it.
WarEagle82…I’m not talking about those that voted for
other presidential candidates but I know of a lot of
people that did stay home and are now griping about
the administration. McCain may have been spending
a lot of our money but I have no doubts that P & R
would not be so ready to give him everything he wanted. I also do not think the bill would have been
hustled through without being read.
I have never seen so much sheer stupidity in my life.
The rest of the world must be laughing so hard that
they are wetting themselves!!
McCain steps up to defend Geithner against GOP and other critics.
The maverick strikes again! The main difference between Obama and McCain? Obama won the election.
On that topic, A rumor is circulating that Geithner is about to get the ax. Jamie Dimon (JP Morgan CEO) is supposedly going to replace him. I like Dimon but he is a ferocious defender of the post Glass-Steagal Act mega-bank model that just failed spectacularly.
That is not good for those of us who believe investment banks, commercial banks and insurance companies should not be allowed to own each other or partner up. These are inherently conflicting interests that need to be kept apart. That is why the Glass-Steagall Act was enacted in 1938 and it was a very efficient and effective regulation for sixty years.
McCain wouldn’t attack obummers policy when he was running against him, Phil, what makes you think he’s gonna attack him now?!! Obummer didn’t win. He never had an opponent.
And, the first two months roll on. Just wait what is in store for us the rest of the “first term”….raises hair on the back of my neck like a stalker was in persuit.
Didn’t like McCain but held my nose and hit the button. But, we’ll have the last laugh with ‘Bambi – the very people that placed him in office will be the ones that pay for it, and pay for it, andddddd pay for it. Sadly, I cry for those that will pay for it. They’ll eventually wake up, he never will.
This is kind of scary. For once I agree with what you said, chappy
It has gotten so bad, that the teleprompter had to start his own blog to defend himself!
http://baracksteleprompter.blogspot.com/
For those who believe Obama is raising more money for the military I think your blowing as much smoke as President Party in Chief. Don’t you get it yet.
Obama sorta presents a plan sorta reasonable, congress takes over and cuts the crap out of what they want, spends what they want, instigates a list of unwanted enemies , persons, companies, and creats absolute havoc to keep everyone mad and distracted.
Obama just smiles and parties and shows his pecs.
Meanwhile his chosen correct people stand around chanting Four Legs good.
Two legs bad. cause they read it in a book somewhere.
If there is one thing I know for certain that would be don’t believe anything that is said in Washington D.D.
Right Gibbs!
Gibbs: UUh uhh
I can’t listen to this guy. I sit there and try to coax the words out of him. Drives me nuts.
You mean like the Dems gutted defense and war spending in the two years they were in control under Bush? Can you point to one defense spending bill that did not get passed with the amount the White House requested in the past 2 years?
well, I certainly DO blame those who either didn’t vote OR voted for some third party losertarian…. Thanks a LOT! McCain may have been a dope in a lot of ways, but, there is no WAY he would be as bad as this. A trillion a year deficit for 10 years? And you know it’ll probably be more. Are you ready for the 10-15% inflation that’s coming?
McCain may have been weak, but at least he wasn’t working to actually intentionally DESTROY the nation like this idiot socialist is.
Besides, who knows how long he would have lasted with the pressures of the Office? SARAH might be President by now! Did you ever think of THAT?
I say anyone who voted for a 3rd party losertarian SHOULD HAVE TO PUT AN OBAMA BUMPER STICKER ON THEIR CAR RIGHT NOW because you might as well have voted for him for what good you did. Thanks a LOT for helping Idiot Obama to win….
Anyone seen this e-mail being passed all around on the Internet?
Fair’s fair…
In the past two years there were no bills passed except those special like dedicating statues and special interest perks. They were there but not acted on because they were being held until Bush was out of office. The formula was pretty simple. Democratic Congress + Democratic President = Socialist State. Just saving the ammo. It all was presented at one time. No one person knows what is in there. The little economy problem was the crisis and over half of that unread , unwritten bill was this liberal base spending.
I don’t for one minute believe that congress and the president can know whats needed for our protection.
Actually, at least as for the Chinese, the Czechs, the English and the EU, they are communicating with this administration to stop the madness before they drag the world economy down with us.
It should speak volumes when Communist China has to come to the defense of capitalism though … as it has!
If Obama, Emanuel, Geithner, and Gibbs went on a canoeing trip in NW Georgia, Gibbs would be the Ned Beatty of the group.
Not really the forum for this but I get so tired of people who voted for “socialist-lite” John McCain blaming real conservatives for voting for a 3rd party. If conservatives voted for conservatives instead of what ever warmed over, loser candidate the GOP thought had stood in line long enough maybe we wouldn’t be in this position.
“Stupid” can cause as much damage as “evil” especially when “stupid” surrounds himself with “evil” advisors. McCain knows NOTHING about economics or the constitution. And he went out of his way to prove it during the campaign.
In fact, I think anyone who voted for John McCain should put an Obama bumper sticker on their care, right now!
But… we only have TWO choices. Not three. Two. McCain or The Idiot. If you vote for a third, then The Idiot benefits…
I, yes I, ThunderHawkk, made the mistake of voting for Ross Perot in 92, and look what it got us! Now, admittedly, The Idiot makes Bill Clinton look downright desirable right now, but do you see what I mean? If all of us who voted for Perot had just voted for Bush, at least we would not have had Clinton. How much would you give to not have Hillary Clinton in our lives right now?
We only have TWO choices. Not THREE. This ain’t 1776, ‘cuz I don’t see any Thomas Jeffersons or John Adams’ hanging around, you know?
Good luck w/ that whole “Democrats aren’t weak on military spending” thing you’ve got going on – reads like a real winner!
BTW, after the events of September 11, most Americans correctly perceive any reduction that inhibits our military’s ability to fight and wage war as a spending cut to defense.
WarEagle82: Nailed it. Anyone who puts party over principle should not bother voting. Had Obama been the GOP candidate running against the Dems’ McCain, ThunderHawkk would have voted for Obama as the “lesser of two evils”.
The “Republican Uber Alles” vote is automatic. They would vote Republican even if the candidate was an actual turd puddle, and McCain was close. There is no such thing as an intelligent discussion with these people. They don’t have any principles they will fight for.
BTW ThunderHawkk; Clinton ran in 1992 on a balanced budget platform. The Dem Congress trashed it and they lost in 1994. The main success for the “Contract with America” was opening up the path for that balanced budget to be re-submitted. Clinton left office with a balanced budget and although Republicans larded up the last year’s budget by $1 trillion, it was projected that the national debt would be retired by 2006-7. The main topic at the Fed in 2000 was “How will the Fed regulate monetary policy when it’s main tool, Treasury debt, no longer exists?”
You need to get into the real world. I’m a Reagan conservative and the fact is that Clinton fulfilled the Reagan dream of balanced budgets and fiscal responsibility. Clinton was the most business friendly president in our lifetimes.
That is why putting party over principle leads to bad government. The truth becomes a barrier to progress.
