Liveblogging the Lexington KY Tea Party; Ridgefield CT Tea Party protesters say “DUMP DODD;” 3k in Orlando; Raleigh NC represents
Scroll for updates…3,000 in Orlando…no national wire coverage of these thousands of protesters across the country, but AP covers measly anti-war protest turnout in Washington…
There are between 300-500 peaceful, grass-roots activists protesting out-of-control government spending in Lexington KY. *Update: Organizer Leland Conway e-mails that final tally on attendance at Lexington is 1,200-1500.*
Reader Eric is liveblogging. Here’s one of his crowd photos:

Meantime, Tax Day Tea Party planning is in full swing.
Lloyd Marcus has penned an American Tea Party anthem.

Reader Jennifer e-mails that another 200 folks turned out in Ridgefield CT for a Tea Party protest. “DUMP DODD” was a popular sentiment. Photo (more here):

And here’s a short vid clip:
Flags-wavers, bell-ringers, some in colonial military get-up, others wearing American flags as capes: angry Americans gathered 200 to 300 strong at Ridgefield’s Ballard Park Saturday morning to vent their frustration.
“Dump Dodd now!” and “We’re not Europe!” and “It’s not your money!” they chanted.
Passing drivers honked, waved or gave them the thumbs up sign.
They came from Ridgefield, Fairfield, Bridgeport, Bethel, and other towns for what had been billed as a modern “tea party.” They carried signs: “Give me liberty, not Europe,” “Obama lies and America dies,” “Socialism is trickle-up poverty,” “Wanted: Loving families for released GITMO terrorists — Call 1-800-I-Voted-For-Obama,” and “Support Our Troops.”
Organizer Chris Murray’s school-age son Peter carried a sign that said, “Broke before my turn.”
“I went to one in Hartford, this is twice as much,” said former Ridgefield School Board Chairman Keith Miller. “This is three or four hundred. Hartford had 150.”
While the protesters had a range of grievances, from illegal immigration to worries that the country was turning to socialism, the dominant themes seemed to be mis-spending of tax dollars, piling up debt, and the growth of government.
“If you talk to these people, most of it is fiscal irresponsibility,” Mr. Miller said. “People cannot fathom the level of debt — for their grandchildren.”
Particular politicians were also targeted — particularly Connecticut U.S. Senator Christopher Dodd and President Barack Obama.
“I want to dump Dodd and I want to dump Dodd and get rid of Obama as soon as it’s legally possible,” said Jamie Shafer of Wilton Road West. “I’m very worried about my country — it’s an outrage a day.”

Instapundit has more on the Orlando Tea Party, where 3,000 turned out and the Raleigh NC Tea Party, where 300-400 gathered on the Capitol steps to protest government run amok.
Local Orlando TV covers thousands of protesters:

Reader Karin sends more pics from Orlando. Love to see Old Glory!

More Orlando photos from Randy Thomas. And from Pereiraville.
And a Flickr set of Raleigh NC photos from reader Donna J.
Maybe if the Tea Party protesters burned the American flag instead of waving it proudly, the AP would send out reporters…

Let’s keep it moving!
We The People (Tea Party)!:
http://tinyurl.com/cehsya
According to a couple of items I’ve seen, it looks like Connecticut is ready to dump Dodd – at least at the moment. Election Day is another thing altogether.
Thank God people are waking up.
I will be at my local Tea Party on April 15th.
And yes, CT, dumping Dodd is much better than simply dumping tea.
We all need to dump the Democratic Socialist Communists and their RINO filibuster-buster counterparts.
The Democratic Socialist Communists have turned the “War on Terror” into the “War on Capitalism”.
check out the tune by Kathleen Stewart…It Ain’t Your Money To Spend…
kathleensings.com if I remember correctly…
We need thousands attending these and need MSM coverage but alas we know that probably won’t happen…
Don’t just dump Dodd, prosecute the bastard.
I just got back from the Orlando Tea Party It was HUGE. I got a lot of pictures and video to upload.
I was also at the Lexington, KY tea party protest. I would put the number in attendance at about 1,500. That’s a great crowd considering the size of the city and the lack of publicity. It was very inspirational to see real people that care about how our country and it’s values are under attack. That maybe there is a chance that this upside down world might someday be made right again.
I’m not going to hold my breath to see if our left-wing local newspaper prints anything about it. It’s up to us to spread the word to the people that voted for the ones responsible. And warn them of the dangerous path they have put us on.
Before the election, I told anyone who would listen that Obama was the biggest threat to our Republic in my lifetime. No one listened, & many even laughed at my comment. It took less than 2 months for it to happen. I am not proud of myself or consider myself prescient. All it took was for people just to listen to him, look who his friends are, & what a wastral of a life he had. Yet, 64 million morons voted for him. I wonder how many of them have awakened to the threat of Obama & his fellow travelers.
A glimmer of hope just entered.
Thank you people!
Who needs AP we have the Michelle Malkin crew.
I was at the Ridgefield Tea party this morning, 200 seems like a pretty conservative estimate I’d the number at closer to 300.
Photos here.
I am the organizer of the Orlando Tea Party that happened today and the park ranger said the crowd was one of the largest he has ever seen at that venue and estimated the crowd to be between 5,000 – 6,000 and that is not counting the people that couldn’t squeeze into the venue. It was a great day!!!
Hate to say it, but I was too busy working today to attend the tea party only minutes from my home to try and earn enough to send to Obama on April 15th so he can “redistribute” it to the lazy bastards who suck at the public teat. I’m heartened to see that 3000 or more of my fellow Orlandoans stood up to defy his “changes” and the pitiful mob we call our representatives in Washington. At least Channel 13 covered it.
Sierra Hotel! We will have a Tea Party in Boise on 15 April, but doubt I will have the time to take part. I have already canceled my leave and expect to be working overtime the next couple of months with my new job at the local AFB. Too those patriots taking the time out of their very busy lives to gather together to stand-up and raise the BS flag on our out of control pork barrel spending political overlords today through the national protest on 15 April I can’t thank you enough.
ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒE (mo-lone lah-veh) Translation: “Come and Take Them!”
Wish I could have gone to the Raleigh one. Was shorthanded and slammed at work.
Interestingly, none of the Raleigh area media covered this. Not WRAL, not the News And Observer, not the NBC, Fox, or ABC affiliates. But, they covered the St. Patrick’s Day Parade! Yes, we actually had it today.
300-400 is not a bad turnout, considering how nice the weather was after some really rainy days, and that Carolina is playing today. ACC country.
Good job, patriots! Can’t wait for the tea party in San Mateo next month; I’ll be happy to take the day off!
Anybody know of any protests going on in the D/FW area any time soon?
I am one of the organizers of the Orlando Tea Party and the park rangers said that this was one of the largest events they have had at the venue and there were between 5,000 – 6.000 inside the rented area alone. It was a great day!!
I was at the Orlando Tea Party and it was great. Lots of great signs and people with websites passing out info.
Well, instead of burning ol’ glory, maybe they could burn the new flag of the nation, the Obama “O” that Pepsi copped. Of course, doing so would label them as racists and that brush would be used to tar the entire event and all the previous and following ones as well, so…maybe they shouldn’t.
We were at the Orlando Tea Party today. It was great to see so many there.
The Orlando Sentinel has the crowd size at 4200.
http://www.orlandoteaparty.com said, “The city estimated it at 5000-6000 and the police on site wholeheartedly agreed.” I’m not sure why the range of numbers, but it was huge. All ages were there from babies to senior citizens.
RandyS, one guy attached two soda cans to his sign.
The sign read,
Obama Soda Challenge
Is he the (Pepsi can with ONE taped on the circle logos)
or is he a (Coke Zero can).
The Teleprompter was also represented. I saw one that said,
Read My Teleprompter No More Bailouts.
Another sign said,
Hey, Obama, Your Teleprompter says
Taxed
Enough
Already
Other signs included quotes from Thomas Jefferson and Iron Maggie as well as one with the Declaration of Independence on it.
The Young Republican Club from University of Central Florida was there. They were selling bumpers stickers that said SCAM in white letters on a bright blue background. The C was done as an Obama circle logo with jagged bites out of the right side to turn it into a C.
A few people in costumes, including 1776 types and one guy in a Soviet Army uniform.
*Keep the tea parties going, especially for 04/15; But it is not just Dunder Dodd, we have to let all these rat bastard Democrats and RINO’s know that they are the enemy of the people if they continue with their pursuit of bloated spending supported by increased taxes; Enough!
*Viva la Fair Tax!
we need 25 million to march on DC. the tea parties are great but they go unnoticed. 25 MILLION in DC would garner WORLDWIDE ATTENTION. quit playing nice with those who want to destroy our country.
The people at Ridgefield have a special reason to be angry. It seems their county government invested huge sums with Bernie Madoff. Also, CT Attorney General Richard Blumenthal (who looks like Eliot Spitzer with hair) declared that AIG paid out significantly more in bonuses with our money than they have admitted.
I would imagine we could get national coverage if we hung an effigy of pretty much any non-Republican political leader.
I’ll be traveling out to Denver and Las Vegas April 14, 15, 16 17. I hope there will be something happening out there. If so, I’ll just grab a sandwich, a sign, some tea bags and join in!
Sad that most of the sheeple will never know about this stuff. They just don’t get it that they are about to be sheared…or worse. Beware the Obama in sheep’s clothing.
Delighted to see turnouts are growing! It is clear to me just from casual conversation the the nation is sick of this “bailout”(read “PORK”) BS. Keep on keeping on, let folks know there is a positive way to vent—TEA PARTY Baby!
Oh come on now, you know you can always count of Fox News to report nonsense. Just give them time
Maybe Obama is following this man’s advice here
Dump Dodd? Has a ring to it.
Our Tea Party is April 15 at the State Capitol. Dump McCain works for me.
Just paid my 2008 income taxes. Had to sent the wasteful bastards in DC $15,000 of my retirement savings to spend on their pet projects!
We need a leader in the Tea Party movement to organize and mobilize these events across the country. We need thousands of people participating, not just hundreds turning out.
The only way this movement can make real change is if it leads to marching. The Enemedia can ignore the gatherings, but if it shifts to a marching movement, it’ll make things happen.
Did you hear about the Iranian response to Obama’s video? Apparently America must make “fundamental changes” to appease Iran:
“Obama has talked of change but has taken no practical measures to address America’s past mistakes in Iran. If Mr. Obama takes concrete actions and makes fundamental changes in U.S. foreign policy toward other nations including Iran, the Iranian government and people will not turn their back on him,” press adviser Ali Akbar Javanfekr told the state-run English-language Press TV satellite station.
Nothing like showing weakness by setting yourself up for a humbling response from a rogue nation. Ronald Reagan would have delivered a more approriate message, trust me. Obama is a naive tool, plain and simple.
The tea parties are quite awesome. I salute those attending for the strength of their convictions.
I agree, but being conservatives we work for a living. Being a Rent-A-Crowd works fine for the great unwashed and college students that really don’t have to show up for classes because college grades are more door prizes than something one has earned. However we conservatives have other peoples mortgages to pay for, so until tea parties move to the weekends (which I sometimes get off from work) I’ll just have to watch here for coverage.
I can’t believe it! There may be hope for the deep blue home state that I (and Laura Ingraham) hail from after all.
I wish them success. My trips there are more often like incursions into enemy territory when politics are discussed, made less comfortable when I return to Colorado and its recent (since ‘06) red > purple > blue election results.
I feel like Kevin McCarthy yelling at traffic in “Invasion of the Body Snatchers.”
Yes we do but we better work even HARDER to stop this Socialist Train Wreck or instead of working for a living we will work for slave wages, state control of our families and lives.
Let us not be sunshine soldiers-we are entering the hard winter and long night of fascism.
Taxed
Enough
Already
That works.
the msm feel the busload of acorn rent a mob who went from aig executive home to aig executive home were so news worthy it has been on cnn hln all morning. 1 charter bus full of unemployed acorn rent a protest anarchists is news. but let thousands of citizens who never take to the streets gather and protest all across america, and that isn’t newsworthy. and some of our nations liberals don’t think the msm is biased. thanks michelle for keeping us informed. it sure wouldn’t happen if we relied upon the msm. communist propagandist scum!
I looked at hundreds of photos this morning.Maybe the lack of coverage is due to the fact that I only found one black or Hispanic face in the crowds. It was in Raleigh. MSM is racist.
Not a Tea Party but a rally in support of the 10th Amendment took place Saturday in Atlanta.
Finally the local Raleigh media have bother to cover the story, WRAL and the N&O. And both had lame attendance counts.
Lame stories, lame headlines, and, heck WRAL’s was 4 short paragraphs.

Kathleen Stewart singing: “It Ain’t Your Money to Spend”
I LOVE this song!
Let’s not forget his good buddy Bawnie Fwanks..jail for them both. They are the architects of this financial disaster…along with accomplices Odumbo and McShame.
the link for Tea Parties scheduled across the nation on April 15th. http://www.taxdayteaparty.com/
we should do the country a favor and dump not only dodd, but also zero the teleprompter specialist, rangel, frank, reid, and pelosi. I know this is only the tip of the crap pile that is very deep, but we have to start somewhere.
Don’t forget the lisper Barney Fife!
That’s what someone says on the video. Whose country exactly is it? Does it belong to the Republican party and/or the conservative movement? Who exactly needs to take it back?
The American people just spoke. We elected someone who promised to bring universal health care, to raise taxes (let the Bush temporary tax cuts expire on the schedule the Republicans set for them), tax carbon emissions, etc. McCain argued against all these things but the majority of voters endorsed them.
Americans are called on to sacrifice when the nation goes through hard times. Sometimes those sacrifices involve getting shot at. Other times, they involve only paying a little more tax.
Well I have looked over the Lexington Herald Leader newspaper and their website and could not find anything written about the protests. If there is anything it must be buried pretty good.
There were 2 articles about the problems in Alaska with Sarah Palin though.
This type of disparity is why I quit buying their paper about 5 years ago.
I understand! But if we do not stand up now and demonstrate our outrage, there may soon be no jobs at which to work for a living.
Is anyone as frustrated as I am that the msm, Obama, taking heads, any and all politicans refuse to call these protests what they are – revolts against those in Washington, and not AIG. Incredible!!! Finally, they are at least covering them, but even Fox isn’t reading the signs.
No! No! No! Never should we be called upon to pay “more taxes” to serve our country. What kind of hooey is this? Americans are already being taxed more than our founding fathers ever envisioned nor wanted. This country was founded by people who sought relief from being overly taxed. How can you even suggest this? It is the duty of our government to give relief to those of us who already pay too much. Personally,we pay almost 50% in taxes in my household – and that’s just payroll. lgm – why don’t you go ahead and pick up our taxes for us being such a good American and all that.
You’re absolutely right. What we need is a 90% income tax on math teachers.
“paying a little more tax….”
Hey, how about this, how about the government not spending any damn money except on national defense? Howze that sound to ya’, tax-lover?
Here’s ANOTHER idea for you: Why don’t YOU pay ‘a little more tax’ and leave me the hell alone??!!??!!
To answer your first question… it’s my country. I dedicated my life: fought and suffered to defend and protect the Constitution, spat upon in airports and called babykiller by Obama’s team mates in the Special Olympics so you can sit back on your fat eema and spout platitudes while Rome burns.
I did my sacrifice by getting shot, and now I’m going to sacrifice all so my grand children won’t have to pay for your presidents arrogance and greed.
And if some internet trolls get run over in the process, so much the better.
“Brewing”
Caption win!
How about this radical idea: lowering taxes! It worked with Reagan, it worked with the dems “hero”, Kennedy, and it worked with Coolidge. When taxes are lowered, the economy goes up. Kennedy, at the Economics Club, called it the “paradox of economics”. Lower taxes, revenues go up. The downside to lowering taxes is that it can hurt the lobbyists, congressional power and pork temporarily. Also, it goes against the political law that one must have an “enemy” to attack, in order to look good for reelection.
You don’t have to wait for the tax to be raised. Why don’t you do your patriotic duty and send in any disposable income you have. The Treasury will accept it, I assure you.
I saw where the MSM was covering the AIG protest , some looked like homeless people with pre-made signs around their necks. Didn’t look like it was as big a crowd as the tea parties? What is the deal with no coverage? This is even more outrageous and so obvious.
You make such incredibly stupid statements, LGM, that it boggles the mind!!! How much is “a little more tax”? Take your socialistic, marxist ideology and leave the country. THIS IS MY COUNTRY and I will fight to keep it out of Marxist hands like you and YOUR President (he sure isn’t mine). You are and will always remain, a putz.
They’ll calm down once they get some new fangled thangs like: indoor plumbing and toothpaste.
Ewww….another putz – IHMC trolls on with another inane, stupid comment. I’m sure LGM and IHMC are related.
I attended this party (been trying to log in all weekend and couln’t to be able to comment!) and it was very fun.
I had issued press releases, so I’m glad some took up on the opportunity. Greenwich’s paper emailed me back and said they were only concerned with things that happen in Greenwich. (Which is code for some boring fat cat Wall Streeter who got a speeding ticket- because that’s the only thing that EVER happens in Greenwich.) I was pretty peeved.
I don’t know if any of you have had the opportunity to really look at the articles here, but the comments can be pretty vile. They get so angry with our lack of protests at the $$ spent for Iraq… They ignore- willingly- the fact that while their boy was handed a mess, he has only made it worse. It’s really something.
But I appreicate the efforts of all people in every state who has had one or is getting ready.
For inquiring minds- our Stamford, CT event will be this Saturday, March 28th, at 10:00 AM, at the downtown library, at Bedford and Broad streets.
(Thanks for the compliments on my video and pics that Michelle linked to, above… I would be “Reader Jennifer”- something all my friends are now calling me!!)
