I am somewhere around 96 7/8% sure that if there were anything that could be construed as a threat Jesse Merrell would have been arrested before he left the court building.

Just curious. How many think the USA will survive the next 100 years? I don’t see it happening.
Driving Jack: electricity doesn’t travel well and solar is not a robust source of electricity. The only way solar makes sense is embed the technology into building materials once the cost has been significantly reduced. Large arrays of solar panels or solar deflectors in remote areas makes no sense. Makes some people feel good though.
Wind, on the other hand, makes sense for small dedicated applications. The city of Riverside runs a wind single turbine dedicated to generating hydrogen to fuel their public buses. Every day, a truck collects the hydrogen produced and transports it to Riverside where it is used up that day.
That is what we need to be looking for. The “big” solutions are very far off into the future and building out the wasteful long distance transmission grid further is misguided. We need to end the electric utilities’ monopoly on public discussion on this issue. There are many cost effective things we could be doing NOW if we got the left/right politics out of the discussion.

I agree but 100 years may be too optimistic. Ten to 20 seems more likely. 60 trillion dollars won’t materialize out of well meaning thoughts, vacuous speeches and finger pointing politics. An unpayable debt like that will collapse on the nation and put us in ruin.
The CBO estimate of $10 trillion deficits over the next 10 years may thankfully doom Obama’s proposed budget. Will he ever display competence as POTUS?

I wonder, in 3 or 4 years, if the Treasury will print “new dollars”, maybe $100 = 1n$, so we won’t be spending $3000 dollars on dinner for four at McDonalds.

*Don’t be too pessemistic about life in the USA after P-BO; It starts in 2010 and 2012 and is in the hands of the people; We must target certain Representatives and Senators for removal from office in the next 2 election cycles; P-BO can be effectively neutered by 2010, as some Dems are already turning on him over bloated spending supported by increased taxation.
*And if the GOP has any plans to get back in power and this time actually get on the side of the people as Sarah Palin would say, they would be wise to start with the Fair Tax and term limits; The people will have none of the same old same old, and at the same time they are not likin’ what the Barack is cookin’; The GOP needs to not just think outside the box, they need to step outside of the beltway and hook up with the real power base, we the people.
Ed: unless our government drastically cuts spending, we are just digging deeper and deeper into a hole. Banks can’t make money in a flat yield curve environment yet that is what the Fed is creating in lieu of allowing property values to sink to equilibrium. Naturally, the rest of the world lacks an appetite for our junk debt and the Fed has no choice but to print the money necessary to fund government spending.
We are past the tipping point and I suspect that our government is now simply digging the moats around their castles to keep us away.
Oddly, both McCain and “W” are cheering it on and urging us to support Obama. What does that tell us?

No one should, for a moment, believe anything an entrenched member of either house has to say. The corrupt will never admit to their misdeeds or outright criminality. Having said that, we must remain vigilant.
Still fresh in my memory are all those accusations aimed at the Bush Administration, regarding the violations of our Constitutional Rights. Those same accusers are the ones who are now trampling on the Constitution, and are not being held to account. And it continues!
The number of egregious violations of law by elected officials just keep growing, as do the cover ups. Does anyone else see or feel the increasing enmity towards Congressional Democrats, a few unprincipled Republicans, and the Obama Administration. I think we may just be days away from a general uprising. Don’t be surprised when you see Pelosi, Reid, Frank, Dodd, and others, suddenly being protected by MIB. Which of the scoundrels, out of self-preservation, will be the first to call for martial law?
We don’t have to wait for radical Islam to destroy us from the inside…the liberal progressives (who were voted in by an epidemic of beggars,) are doing it for them.

A bit off topic, but if you haven’t seen this video clip, it’s well worth taking the time to do so. It contains prima facie evidence of who is/are largely responsible for the current economic crisis.
FYI re Obama – Below is a list of reasons why Obama is not eligible to hold the office of POTUS:
(1) The U.S. President is required by the U.S. Constitution to be a “Natural Born Citizen”, meaning born in this country to parents that are both US citizens. The State of HI, statute 338, allows foreign born children of Hawaiian residents to get an Hawaiian “Certification of Live Birth” and is not a “birth certificate.” Mr. Obama has never presented any corroborating evidence that he was actually born in HI. His paternal grandmother in Kenya and the Ambassador of Kenya made statements that he was born in Kenya, a British Colony at that time. Mr. Obama, Sr was a British subject, and never a US citizen. Thus, Mr. Obama is not qualified to be the POTUS.
(2) The image Mr. Obama has posted on the Internet is not a valid birth certificate, but a limited value document, called a Short Version Certification of Live Birth. The Certification of Live Birth does not name a hospital, a doctor, or have any signatures or a seal of the Hawaiian Health Department on the front of the document. This document is usually given to parties that don’t have a proper hospital birth certificate and it is given based on a statement of one relative only. Even the State of HI doesn’t give full credit to these documents.
(3) The State of HI has sealed his actual birth certificate and only stated that there is a document on file. In spite of numerous demands, the Hawaiian Office of Vital Statistics refused to provide information as to whether it is a certificate for a foreign born child of a resident, is a proper hospital birth certificate, or a short version COLB of limited value.
(4) Even if Mr. Obama had any US citizenship status until age 5, he lost it when he immigrated to Indonesia and acquired Indonesian citizenship. Indonesia doesn’t allow dual citizenship and Mr. Obama reaffirmed his Indonesian citizenship; therefore, relinquishing any US citizenship when he traveled using an Indonesian passport as an adult.
(5) Mr. Obama has had sealed all of his vital records and has spent over $800,000 on an army of attorneys to keep his records sealed. Mr. Obama’s attorneys have harassed and intimidated all attorneys challenging Obama’s eligibility.
(6) In spite of Obama’s arrogant claims that all cases were debunked, not one single case was heard on the merits. The courts have stated that such nonsense as “ordinary citizens have no standing to challenge” or “Obama was fully vetted by the internet, twitter, facebook,” etc.
Since no one bothered to ask to see a document – we all had to produce to get our DL – Obama was elected without proving to one single person in this country his Constitutional eligibility status.

Yes, the Sheeple now vote for candidates like Obama without bothering to find out what’s really under the hood. We have become just like our representatives who pass laws, like the Stimulus bill, without taking time to read them first.
But, if you want to know who murdered our country, the butler did it.
In the Butler case of 1936 the Supreme Court used crisis to begin the process of overturning established precedent by redefining and widening the scope of the “General Welfare Clause” of the Constitution. “General Welfare” was enlarged to include “specific welfare” that could be targeted to certain groups rather than be “uniform throughout the United States.”
Overturning the orginal meaning of “General Welfare” allowed the federal government to target taxes and spending to specific groups. Today’s earmarks, which benefit narrow sectors within the country, would not be possible if we still followed the original meaning of the Constitution.
So, the Butler did it. Or rather, it was the Supreme Court of the 1930′s who stuck the mortal blow. And we’ve been bleeding out ever since.

Butler didn’t say that at all. It said that the tax and spend power “for the general welfare” was a separate and distinct power. The Butler court didn’t touch the question about local v. national. It said this was a concern and then moved on to strike down the tax in question on a 10th amendment issue.

Then maybe you should have quoted Helverling v. Davis. Because what general welfare means versus whether or not the tax and spend power is a distinct power are two wholly different questions. But I guess “the Davis did it” isn’t as catchy, hmmm?
But in any case, it is still not true that Congress is not restrained by the “general welfare” clause. The court just decided that Congress was probably a better judge of that than an individual state or the court. Which I am sure you would support. We don’t want activist judges, right?
Let’s pretend that this is true. If that’s the case, shouldn’t Michelle be leading the impeachment charge instead of organizing tea parties? Where’s Glenn Beck? Sean Hannity? Where’s Rush?
Also Papa Louie, I am curious if you could point to the “established precedent” that Butler supposedly overturned. Butler was the first time, I believe, the Court addressed the issue.
