A question for the 85 CYA-on-AIG House Republicans

By Michelle Malkin  •  March 23, 2009 12:54 PM

Last week, I printed the list of 85 House Republicans, led by Minority Whip Eric Cantor, who sided with the AIG-bashing Democrats demagoguing the bonus issue to cover their own backsides.

Now that these 85 Republicans have signaled their willingness to pass after-the-fact confiscatory taxes to take back “ill-gotten gains” whenever the Dems and the press want to whip up public anger over bailout funds spent on lavish corporate items, I want to know:

Are Minority Whip Cantor and the CYA-on-AIG House Republicans going to join hands when Pelosi/Rangel/Reid et al. cook up a tax scheme targeting JPMorgan’s purchase of new corporate jets and an airplane hangar? What about the next Kabuki Outrage to come along?

What are their grabby hands criteria for passing bills of attainder to take back money in the same hysterical fashion they doled it out in the first place?

Rep. Cantor? Anyone?

You know what? I think you need to see the list of 85 GOP bonus-tax boneheads again. Here it is:

They could care less about the economy. It’s the social and political agenda that is first and foremost in their minds. They’ll worry about the economy once their first objective is finalized.

If they don’t watch it, the brush fire they started to chase the sheeple in the direction they want them to go may engulf them too.

All the jobs that support the Economy through manufacturing, travel, service, food, etc. are based on the “trickle-down” and multiplier effect of jobs that are created in support of industry.

Compensation, through salary and bonus programs are key. Why did Obama and Dodd create the AIG bonus fiasco. So they could have the demon of fake anger to start taking away salaries! What is their limit, $1 Million/Yr, $500,000/Yr, or maybe even $20,000/Yr.

If the Republicans want to be useful….Ask Black Athletes to return ALL of their Salary and Signing Bonuses (since most give nothing back to their communities) or Demand ALL HOLLYWOOD Salaries must be $0.00/Yr, since they really don’t work for a living.

I am guessing some of the other surprises might have done the same thing. While it makes me feel a bit better, I still think voting against it would have been better. Unless you got the entire GOP to have voted for it to make the point Rep. McClintock makes, it serves to lessen the GOP’s moral high ground.

The answer is an emphatic, YES WE WILL!

We have now reached the point where politicians on both sides of the aisle are willing to summarily punish a small group of Americans without individual review or due process under the ASSUMPTION they are guilty of something after villifying them to cover up their own malfeasence in order to remain elected.

I don’t see how voting for the 90% tax on the bonuses will slow the corporate bailouts. It was Congress who agreed to exempt bonuses in the bailout in the first place. The way to stop the bailouts is to vote against them each and every time. They may not win but they will let their constituents know where they stand.

I thought Cantor held promise as well. But, he’s now on the “NO” list. I’m tired of being treated like a cheap date by the RNC, OK to grab a hamburger with but not dinner at a fine restaurant. I can’t imagine a real conservative voting for this monster when the implications are it’s not only illegal but also questionable whether it can be enforced. I say we go after the entire House/Senate under the RICO Act. It’s collusion, theft, and fraud on the grandest scale of any criminal group in history.

The way I understand it, even the banks that didn’t need a bailout were required to take a portion of the money, particularly if they participated in bailing out other failing companies. This is true in the case of JP Morgan Chase. Because they purchased Bear Stearns and Washington Mutual, Chase was required by the writing of the original bailout to take a portion of the funds.

They’re also on track to pay it off within five years–BECAUSE they didn’t need it. So I really don’t want to hear any of the Democraps wailing and moaning about Chase buying jets or hangar space. They’re one of the few companies that DIDN’T help run the industry into the ground.

Re: campaign contributions from bailout recipients.

    Here’s an idea:

Since the government has decided to pit restrictions on bailout recipients to keep the taxpayer money from being wasted, here’s an idea:

No bailout recipient may make campaign contributions until ALL bailout money is repaid.

I think I’ll write my congressman about that.

The real issue here is congressional districting. If Congress conservative critters were elected at-large from a state, they’d have lots of conservative support.

It’s the divide and conquer strategy of gerrymandering that creates and supports the continuing existence of RINOs who don’t have principles.

The only way to salvage that bunch is with some serious conservative leadership – then, and only then may they become useful.

I am still looking for the truth here. I heard that some of these bonuses were offered to people to get them to stay at AIG and help unravel some of these credit swap instruments.

Since AIG was going down, these people were bailing for other jobs while the getting was good. They were persuaded to stay by these bonus offers and because of their expertise, they helped unravel some of these things saving AIG (and the taxpayer) billions of dollars.

They earned this bonus by making the decision to stay. They risked having to get in the back of the line for other jobs, etc. Now they are told, just kidding, you can’t get the bonus. Ha Ha!

Now I hear these were executive bonuses paid to reward failure. Is that the truth or more of team Obama’s propaganda lies?

People got all up in arms over “bonuses” paid but what is the real truth here? This isn’t the USSR yet. Can I get the facts please so I can make an intelligent decision, not a bandwagon decision based on populist propaganda?

My guy, King, votes no on nearly all legislation and so is my hero. I tell him frequently along with my monthly email of instructions. Sometimes his staff sends form letters and sometimes you get form letters with added language providing a more nuanced response. Believe my Senator, Grassley, does as well. I don’t give a good dog damn what that socialist Harkin does.
