One of my family members is a college English teacher. She had a stint at a law school for several years teaching law students how to correctly express themselves on paper (no joke). This particular law school thought it important for the lawyer to be able to write his own briefs (ya think?) in case he didn’t have staff, etc.
There have been a number of folks questioning whether BHO fully authored his books. Regardless, we’ve learned that he doesn’t think quickly on his feet.

what is hypocritical about pointing out the simple fact Obama is a bumbling fool when he is not being told what to say .

Perhaps its the obamazombies that bought his bs empty lines of hope and change , I saw him for what he was long ago. a black jimmy carter . An i remember what a pos jimmy carter was . Now Obama is proving me right .

Obama was almost never asked hard questions and when he was with out his binky , he stumbled like a little child who hasnt learned to walk yet. But alas the MSM covered for him hid his scared knees from his fall and proclaimed him the second coming , because of his speeches. An only now to some blinded sheep do they figure out , they were sold snake oil. that will only cure them from their freedoms and leave them scraping for lose change .
a chicago puppet was elected by a mass of idiotic fools and now we get the obama and binky show and its only going to cost of a few trillion .

Levin screaming at me on the ride home isn’t going to bring the key issues to my attention any better or more effectively. Furthermore, he has a habit of shouting down or shutting off his callers. At least Hannity takes the time to talk to callers without being so quick to lob insults and just generally be nasty.

It’s a personal preference. If you enjoy Levin’s screaming more power to you. I don’t and I think it’s tiresome and annoying.

You later backpeddled and tried to say that you think Rush is full of himself too so it’s OK and you didn’t mean anything by it.

You have more than once made it clear you have a personal problem with me because of my opinions and all the while I have been consistently polite and kind.

I do not listen to public radio and enjoy reading MM’s site as I often agree with her. See the article on the Berkley vandals for an example.

This is not me being condescending or arrogant. This is me pointing out to you that you can be quite rude and I have been very patient with you.

Some of my comments may indeed be “dripping with sarcasm” but look at the way others talk to me when I do respond in that fashion. They are often outright hostile and make no bones about their loathing.

I did care about the origin of the teleprompter jokes because I thought I was missing out on a particularly funny gaffe. Unfortunately, there was nothing very novel about it.

PS. “Over and out” is redundant and a sure sign of someone who doesn’t know proper radio procedure, much like “Roger, wilco.” To bad you aren’t reading, you would have learned something.

zero, this CLIP has an example of what happens when Obama is off the teleprompter.

It has taken root because he is a horrible speaker apart from it, and has been noticed by many people. It seemed to pick up steam when, after Obama was sworn into office, there was a lack of jokes about Obama from comedians. Comedians complained there wasn’t anything funny about Obama, no opening to make fun of him. Many people pointed out his constant need for a teleprompter was ripe for humor, but the left doesn’t want to hear it.

It is fair to poke fun at him for this since his supposed “eloquence” is a big part of how he was elected (Biden said he was “articulate” and clean). Not everyone is able to speak well. But if you want to be a public leader, then you had better be able to speak. It is yet another requirement for the job that Obama comes up short.

Yes. I agree, Obama IS a bad public speaker and it is certainly an important trait for a President.

As I said though, I am uncomfortable with this kind of derision. I feel it is the arena of comedians and think people like MM should be above it.

I did not like it when done to Bush and I can’t say I like it now.

There is nothing funny about having a poor public speaker for a President. It is a national embarrassment and I sincerely hope Obama goes to great lengths to fix it.

zero, I think it is completely fair to point this out, for a couple of reasons:

    1. Obama & his supporters think much too highly of Obama – he is going to heal America’s soul, he will heal the planet, going on a world tour before being elected President, etc. Bush didn’t say & do stuff like that.

    2. Obama’s supporters are constantly touting his eloquent verbosity ad nauseum, when it is a lie. Neither Bush nor his supporters ever heralded his eloquence. And unlike Obama, Bush was self-deprecating, including about his own speaking skills. Bush could poke fun at himself without making fun of Special Olympics. If you are going to brag about something, that opens you up to criticism on that point.

    1. This may be true, but just because there are Obama supporters that are a bit loony still doesn’t mean I want to lower myself to juvenile jabs that is typical of, well, the far-left.

    2. Same as above. Obama is self-deprecating and his “Special Olympics” comment is evidence of that. On that note, why the outrage over that gaffe? You don’t seriously think Obama hates the Special Olympics do you? Furthermore, I sincerely doubt that anyone on this board has never made such a disparaging comment. Obama IS human. He says stupid things sometimes. Yes, it’s embarrassing but no I don’t think it’s funny and yes I do think it’s juvenile.

You can disagree with that if you want. You can justify or rationalize why making fun of the way someone talks is not juvenile and vacuous. If that works for you, fine. I just think it is beneath what is serious political discourse.

It isn’t about Obama “hating Special Olympics,” it is about him being an immature narcissist. It is just another example in a long line of such examples. Just the other day, Michelle Obama walked into a classroom and asked “Do I need to introduce myself?” The class said “Yessss.” She replied with a disappointed, “Oh… alright…”

If Obama was self-deprecating, he would have taken up the offer of bowling with some Special Olympics bowlers (who would out-bowl him any day of the week). That would be self-deprecating, further a good cause, and put this gaffe behind him – but that ain’t gonna happen. It would be too much for his ego.

I do not consider bringing our political leaders, who have inflated egos & have worked hard at creating a cult of personality, down to earth to be juvenile or vacuous. It may not be as serious a political discourse such as differing over the bailouts, but it does have a legitimate place in the political arena.

I know what you are saying. I simply disagree. I am allowed to have an opinion on what I think is juvenile and what isn’t. By all means continue to make fun of the way Obama talks. Political satire does have a long tradition in this country, and I’ll leave the making fun of the way someone talks bit to comedians and other folks. I much prefer when MM stays on point and rightly derides Obama for his socialist leanings, this teleprompter stuff is a distraction.

I stand by what I said, I did not like it when done to Bush, and I do not like it when done to Obama.

Michelle Obama walked into a classroom and asked “Do I need to introduce myself?” The class said “Yessss.” She replied with a disappointed, “Oh… alright…”

Is it not possible that she was just teasing the kids and in effect, not taking herself seriously either?

If Obama was self-deprecating, he would have taken up the offer of bowling with some Special Olympics bowlers

…or he could apologize and make it clear that what he said was a mistake. Or he could beg and grovel for forgiveness. Truth is, no matter what he does it won’t matter in your eyes.

You may not consider this juvenile or vacuous and that’s fine. I do. I am sorry, as you say:

    Indeed it is not.

Even if it was a joke, it would be the joke of a narcissist. Is it really that funny? I heard the audio for myself, and it sounded like she was being full of herself. Put that in the context of many other things her and her hubby have said, and my interpretation is a reasonable one.

Wow, I guess you know it all. I guess Obama isn’t the only one with a Messiah complex.

Don’t worry, I’m perfectly content with you looking down your noble nose at me. Liberals do that to me all the time.

You can be content with me looking down my nose at you and I’ll be content that you imagine me burning and suffering in agony for eternity. Fair?

Just popping in for a couple minutes. I have been gone most of the day. But I couldn’t’t let this thread pass without a comment about zeroangle…he is most certainly a troll. I figured that out long ago. The arrogant, superior style is typical of a liberal troll. And when you argue or disagree with him, his answers are typically dripping with sarcasm and meant as put-downs. Also, he hijacks the threads and gets everyone off topic. I could tell right away on this thread when he kept asking the origin of the teleprompter jokes. He wouldn’t’t let it drop. Like who cares? It was a way of putting the thread off-stride. I’m sure he will feel a need to respond to me in a sarcastic way, or perhaps will put out some condescending drivel. But I have no interested “engaging him in discussion”. He needs to go back to his classical music and public radio and let the original discussion get back on track. Over and out.

Thanks for getting my back Happyscrapper. It certainly doesn’t take a brain surgeon to figure out what zero is doing, I am under the weather with the flu right now and feel embarrassed that I was drawn into his plan.

Michelle’s topics are fun, interesting, silly, pertinent, informative, all of those things at different times. They can’t all be totally serious. We enjoy the banter occasionally. So I think we should let her pick her own topics and try not to criticize her choices. I know my saying that won’t stop you but just thought I would try.

…and so what was your opinion of the recent “homeless” man with cell phone camera rant?

I am not a sycophant and I will state my opinion when I think MM is wrong. Anyhow, why are you responding to me? I thought I was a troll?

Wow, zero, I had no idea you were so fixated on me and my comments! You can go back to some of the first words I ever spoke? Hmmm…I must be making a big impression on you. When you hijacked that thread and turned it into a discussion on legalizing drugs, I criticized you for hijacking the thread and you did your superior dance. Now you are remembering some other obscure thing I may have said. This is very impressive. In the future, I will try to live up to your lofty standards of perfection and intellectual prowess. But I’m sure I will fail. That was fun…I love feeding the troll. But now I have other things to do with my day.

Please! Don’t pretend to be aloof. You brought up my comments re. drugs (which were TOTALLY relevant to a discussion about Ayn Rand) time and time again in separate threads long after I had put the topic to rest. You are doing it NOW!

Heck, at one point I even had to tell you basically (in not so many words), look, unless you want to hi-jack this thread too, let’s put that one to bed.

Of course I remember when a fellow poster is rude! Who doesn’t?

Look, I guarantee you if you treat me in a polite manner henceforth, I will return the favor. If you can’t accept that I am responding to you in kind, then there isn’t any hope for any amicable conversation.
