I agree with the petitioners.
Amen! The One Idiot has no business at a Catholic school. In fact, he has no real business anywhere in America as far as I’m concerned.
Hey, you One Idiot – Here’s what we’re going to do: You took advantage of the 52.7% idiot factor in America, so just do your business. But in 2010, we’re going to BLOCK YOU, and in 2012, we’re gonna kick your sorry ass out of office via the VOTE! After you lose in 2012, why don’t you go back to Kenya? We’ll spend the next 20 years cleaning up your mess here.
Ban the One Idiot!
Waiting to here commentary from Bill Maher and Keith Obermann in
5, 4, 3, ….
Let the hypcorisy roll like a shrill scream out of their mouths.
Wow.
That’s like, a lot.
Almost as many that didn’t want Teri Schiavo to die…
Gee, has Notre Dame faculty gone insane?Go ahead and invite the devil himself into your house. Wake up you dam fools.
Of course don’t forget to remind the KBPOTUS, his wife and the entourage what things they are allowed to touch with their eyes and which things they are more than welcomed to take.
Let’s just hope they don’t serve argula and Japanesse steak. Those students are paying enough as it is!
GSP
“This is Sparta!”
Any word on how the Alumini, Faculty or current Students feel about Pres Obama speaking at Notre Dame?
Have they invited the TOTUS as well? Or is that now a forgone conclusion that when zero goes anywhere he will now never be without his best friend after his Late Night comments?
Signed it!
Thus to all tyrants!
The students probably picked Obama.
I signed the petition. Just as religion should not be endorsed by government, I feel that politics should not be endorsed by my religion. There are too many positions taken by both sides which are impossible to reconcile with the Church’s teachings.
Of course, I don’t feel that the party of war, torture, and the death penalty and should be lecturing anyone on how to be a follower of Christ. The right only cares what the Vatican has to say when it admonishes the pro-choicers, but when the Pope talks about the Iraq war, he’s nothing but an old crank.
Those students better watch it, or Duh One will call down thunder and lightning on them!
Now if only we can get a petition of no confidence…
Signed.
What in the world are the so-called leaders of Notre Dame thinking? What are they using for brains? The single most pro-abort legislator ever in the history of the Senate and now the POTUS. They want this tool to speak at commencement?
Ex-communication should be seriously considered for these people. I’m not even catholic! I’d rather see Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy do a duet speech for those grads than the Fraud in the White House.
Remember when all those colleges rescinded invitations to Conservatives and Republicans to speak? And do you remember how we all howled and gnashed our teeth and ripped our clothes?
Well then. What’s this all about?
Goose. Gander.
Uh Oh! Red State Skeptic and I agree on this!?!? I’d better look at that issue a little more closely!
(Nothing personal RSS, I just couldn’t resist.)
The TOTUS was invited because he is the one receiving the honorary doctorate from the university.
A symbolic protest, to be sure, but I fear it all maybe wasted time & effort.
Notre Dame – like many universities founded upon religious principles – turned to the secular dark side many generations ago. Bill Buckley lamented as much about Yale back in the 1950’s.
The saintly ‘Ol’Gippers’ alma mater is more a hollyweird memory than an economic & political reality.
Besides, Obama would have to have an (R) after his name to be spurned and scorned by the elders of the tribes of pointy head academics who fill young skulls full of liberal mush.
Save your strength for the real struggles against fascism.
At least they pick the smarter of the two.
There is a symposium on this subject at NRO that is really good.
The issues not just that BHO is speaking (although that’s bad enough), ND is actually awarding him an honorary degree as well!
Signed and proud to fight against abortion and homosexuality… Oh, I’m not afraid of any gay person. I understand the definition of the Latin translation of homophobes….. stick it where you enjoy it, gays.
This Pope never read St. Augustine. I’m not Catholic and I did.
Notre Dame has long ceased to be a Catholic university. Did it take the Obama invitation to have people finally realize it?
Notre Dame has been run by liberals who have destroyed the Catholic identity there. There are a lot of real Catholic colleges: Christendom, Franciscan, Catholic University, Mount Saint Mary’s, Ave Maria, University of Dallas, Thomas Aquinas, and others.
Notre Dame, though, is Catholic in name only, yet they still pretend to be Catholic, causing scandal to Catholicism. There is no such thing as a liberal “Catholic.” No Catholic can be liberal because what liberalism stands for is totally alien to Catholicism. Liberals are modern day Gnostics, not Catholics, which is why they are clueless enough to support Obama.
I just registered my vote – it was easy, I just acted like one of you:
Name: Welfare Recipient
Address: Trailer Park
Now I feel close and warm towards all of you.
and along the same lines of people just saying “no” to Odumbo – apparently Hail the Chief Obama rang up Simon Cowell to have dinner but Simon was “waaaayyy tooooo busy.” Love it!
ILMC, it isn’t all about you.
Seriously, I consider the term “homophobe” to be bigoted, hate-speech and I personally will not allow anyone to call me that term.
When used, the term is designed to frame any discussion around the premise that the person being referred to has a “phobia,” which is defined as having an irrational fear of something.
So what is being implied is your moral objection is a mental illness.
When I hear that term, the discussion is over, because the person who used the term is a bigot. I don’t associate or tolerate bigotry. Anyone who is called a homophobe should not tolerate it whatsover.
Earlier in afternoon, Fox News had Phil Donohue live with a young Catholic priest by phone. It’d be nice to tie that clip in if, for nothing else, to witness Donohue’s indefensible self-righteousness. Listening to him, a Catholic, argue that the Catholic church needs to open its arms to make a wider reach for young Catholics.
Phil sounded the same chords that Megan McCain sounds regarding Republicans. It’s Catholic-lite and GOP-lite, respectively.
Phil’s just grinding an axe because he can’t receive communion in his parish.
The party of war, torture and the death penalty? Really?
He’s still alive? I thought he was deemed irrelevant during the Carter Administration?
Seriously, some people just don’t get it.
Misscheryl,
I’ll take the cumulative morality in a trailer park over the cumulative morality found in the Capitol and the White House any day of the week.
I am sure you would too.
In.a.heartbeat.
Sonofdy
I thought you took care of ILMC in the other thread.
flmom – unless you step on it’s head, it will just wiggle around and won’t really be dead.
I signed the petition, but it barfed up an email stating that the petition recipient email addy is incorrect.
Just a heads up for anyone who signs.
BTW, Trailer Trash beats Washington Trash any day.
Pro-choice president speaking at a Catholic university = “travesty”
Iraq War = who cares what my church thinks
Your outrage is as opportunistic as it is predictable.
Your post is irrelevant. Please feel free not to judge others K? Here’s a clue – Christians.are.predictable. Sheesh! I guess your point is the one on the top of your head.
At first, I was against him speaking at Notre Dame, but the more I think about it, the more I’d like to see him explain his position on abortion, especially partial birth abortion. Let him speak with the condition that he address his policies on abortion and embryonic stem cell research.
Me likey MissCheryl!!!
think s/b thought
Aaarrggh!
Notre Dame appears to be about as Catholic as SanFranNan!
Uh, okay, but I’m not talking about the predictability of Christians. I’m talking about the hypocrisy of a cheerleader for the Iraq War deciding it’s okay to break with her church when it suits her politics, then getting upset over a minor transgression like having a pro-choice president speak at a nominally Catholic university.
I just find it, shall we say “interesting” that someone would leverage their church’s system of beliefs when it’s convenient and ignore them when it’s not. That’s all.
There is not much that I like about this guy, but he is the president.
That being said, I certainly have no beef with the petitioners.
huggybear – why are
posts all about what YOU feel, what YOU think, what YOUR opinion is. Never anything of value, or a discussion of facts just more dribble about yourselves. Do YOU really think what YOU feel, want, believe matters that much?
Oh, and PS – i didn’t read your post because frankly – I don’t care.
Having read the story this morning on CNSnews.com and being a practicing Catholic, I’m very offended that Hussein had been invited under the guise of “engagement”. He does not want to engage in discussion of issues close to Catholics and Christians (I know we’re one in the same). No Catholic can argue that abortion is acceptable. No one can argue that children are a burden. Nancy Pelosi tried to argue the former and had been called on it by the Holy Father and Archbishop George H. Niederauer of San Francisco, among others.
I’m sick of the shroud called “engagement” – this is simply code speak to get people who have very extreme values or ideas to attend a venue.
There is no “engagement”. There is no “dialogue”. There is only degredation, anger, and scorn from sub-humans like Hussein with absolutely no chance of dialogue.
Well you obviously care enough to comment.
But had you read what I posted, you would see my comment is not about ME, it’s about this blog post. Actually, you got me, it’s about my opinion of this blog post. What was I thinking, commenting on something as though I have an opinion on the subject? I must have been thinking that’s what blog comments are for. Silly, silly me.
Oh, you mean like the left does with the Constitution. Got it.
Nice work – Huggybear – good point.
Knowing that many in the church don’t care much for Christian doctrine anymore, I will go ahead and share this:
“I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths. But you, be sober in all things, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.”
2 Timothy 1-5
“To the angel of the church in Laodicea write: The Amen, the faithful and true Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God, says this: ‘I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot; I wish that you were cold or hot. So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth. Because you say, “I am rich, and have become wealthy, and have need of nothing,” and you do not know that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked, I advise you to buy from Me gold refined by fire so that you may become rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself, and that the shame of your nakedness will not be revealed; and eye salve to anoint your eyes so that you may see. Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline; therefore be zealous and repent.’”
Revelation 3:14-19
Wha…?
No, sorry, not me. This may be a case of goose-gander, and in that context the hypocritical responses by the typical leftist media suspects should be amusing. But I’m not going there.
I dislike Obama keenly; I disliked Bush as well (though not as much and for different reasons); but a university, Christian or not, has every right, privelege, and frankly civic duty to invite the President of The United States, whoever he may be, to speak unmolested at their campus. And depending on who that President happens to be, he should be prepared to defend himself against severe critical scrutiny and debate by informed students and faculty. And I can’t respect anyone who interferes with that.
Obviously, there are plenty of people here who are not familiar with situations of Pope’s opinions on matters (like the Iraq war) that are “ex cathedra” and those that are hard core, from the chair teachings. The Catholic Church is not against war- it is against unjust war. Whether or not the Iraq war is just is up for debate in terms of what Catholics believe. We, as Catholics, are to prayerfully discern and take the Pope’s opinion under advisement- but we are not obligated to agree with him and we are not under thread of excommunication if we disagree publicly, etc.
But abortion is one of those “from the chair”, infallible teachings that are non-negotiable. That is very different from an opinion.
Notre Dame needs to make up its mind- is it a Catholic school for real? Or is it a poser? I believe it is outrageous to have anyone who directly contradicts the Church’s teaching on something as important as life come and speak at a graduation. I am saddened by this, but I am not surprised. ND is not a Catholic School just because they say they are.
Misscheryl
Thanks for the heads up.
How anyone can justify the deliberate killing of a human life in the womb by throwing out the straw man argument of the
War on Terroroops, Overseas Contingency Operation?Would you have raised Cain over Bush at Notre Dame? That guy started an unnecessary war (that got lots of people unnecessarily killed) and enthusiastically supported the death penalty, both of which were opposed by the Church.
huggybear said:
Me too, so when are you going to lead that protest against Nancy Pelosi?
operamama38 – Very well explained.
This is too much. I’m Catholic and I don’t have a problem with the President speaking at any college. Why? Because he’s the President. Show some respect for the office, jeez………..
So it was all rosy there before the Iraqi War LGM?????. You must be a Saddamite and a supporter of his policies. You must get a thrill when a fetus up to nine months is destroyed here in the USA. The death penalty is reserved those who have murdered innocent souls outside of a war zone. Not sure what the chuch supports but I don’t see anything Biblical that is against the death penalty. BO is known to have supported of exterminating babies that are born alive during an abortion procedure. Man, this nation seems to be getting more Sovietized everyday. Life is degraded and death is celebrated by choice.
It wouldn’t surprise me if the POTUS puts a 666 on his forehead when he goes to Notre Dame and does his “punch drunk” smug laugh when he gets up to read the teleprompter. He is a very evil man……
Yes, Mr. Olympia the future antichrist who has the 666 will be vastly popular when he arises and by then everything will be upside down. As Isaiah had said in the last days, what we call good will be called evil and what was evil will be called good.
So much for alumni contributions to a now completely secular institution. Sure hope the dopey students are prepared for fewer amenities when the contributions dry up. It appears that if one wants to contribute to a Catholic organization, one must do so directly to the Vatican.
As of right now:
The Cardinal Newman Society & CatholicVote.org & more than 93,225 signers.
Nice work – txvet2 - better point.
Tried to sign the petition but the “Server was too busy”. Where is the petition for him NOT to give the commencement address at ARizona State University May 13th????
Well put Trollman #56, on point.
This truly hasn’t got anything to do with whether Notre Dam is Catholic or not – it’s an avenue for people to show their disapproval of Obama. That’s all it is. At this point, people are revolting any way they can and this is just a vehicle to do so.
No campus is exempt from liberal idiocy anymore, especially those with a lot of exposure and name recognition.
You’re an idiot…and blind…and deaf…and unable to critically think through any issue of importance. Go away.
We will when he does. Until then, all bets are off here.
I am late to this post as usual.
I heard someone say, the only people for abortion are the people already born.
huggybear does not know the difference between abortion and war.
The Church teaches that abortion is intrinsically evil. Nothing can justify it, unless to save the life of the mother.
War is not intrinsically evil, though many wars are evil. The Church developed a just war doctrine, therefore, war is always subject to examination by the informed conscience, and is not intrinsically evil.
Therein lies the difference.
GK Chesterton:
“Let all the babies be born. Then let us drown the ones we do not like”.
Perhaps you need to understand that abortion has always and unconditionally been condemned in Catholicism. From the beginning and not – contrary to critics – the last 150 years or so. We are bound to not support, endorse, condone, or otherwise be passive about abortion.
On the other hand, the Catechism of the Catholic Church (and, hence, Catholic teaching) recognizes that this world is full of unjust aggressors and that it’s neither prudent nor responsible to be totally passive all the time. Which is why there is criteria and parameters outlining war. The Catholic Church also has parameters of self-defense, saying it is ultimately not a sin to kill someone if they pose a mortal threat to your life or the life of another innocent person.
And, given the fact his comments incited violence among Muslims, Pope Benedict knows that a total reconciliation and peace with them is probably not possible.
Also, while limited in application, the Church DOES NOT forbid the death penalty. Just like war and self-defense, there are parameters for it as well.
Nice try, though.
Chesterton wrote that as an example of the ignorance of atheists. In his era abortions for the sake of abortions were unthinkable even for the hard core athiests.
You do realize that the Bible advocates the death penalty for murder and a few other crimes…? So should we follow the will of God or not? Here are some scriptures…
Exodus 20:13
Numbers 35:16-21
Numbers 35:30-31
Deuteronomy 5:17
Sorry, never would have raised cain — its above my paygrade….
Oh, you meant “raise cane” as in “create a stink”…
The expression “to raise cane” go back to slavery, and is a reference to punishment, but oddly enough it didn’t start there — it started at approx. the same time period but originates with punishment of the lower ranks in the Royal Navy. Its original reference signified mule-ishness requiring more than commononly allowed, but less than needed for a full-out flogging.. raise the cane, (1 or 2 stripes) and thats the fitting punishment.
I thought your unintentional double entendre rather clever…
However, knowing that you are a simple phrase-response generator program, my admiration is reserved for your coder.
