Obama’s deportation fugitive aunt gets another day in court
Where in the world is Barack Obama’s illegal alien aunt, Zeituni Onyango? When last we saw the destitute relative, she was partying on Inauguration Day despite her fugitive status. The deportation evader is set to have yet another day in immigration court. She’s back at her Boston public housing complex, courtesy of the American taxpayer, preparing for the case. The Boston Globe reports:
President Barack Obama’s aunt, a Kenyan immigrant who ignited controversy last year for living in the United States illegally, has returned to her quiet apartment in a Boston public housing project to prepare for an April 1 deportation hearing that will be closed to the public…
…”The case is unusual in American history because it’s a relative of the president involved in immigration matters,” said Mark Krikorian, executive director of the Washington-based Center for Immigration Studies. “It really does present the White House with an opportunity or a minefield. If they follow through on a decision that she should go home, that would actually raise the president’s credibility enormously on immigration enforcement.”
Obama has said that he has not had any involvement in the case and that it should run its ordinary course, White House spokesman Ben LaBolt said.
Onyango’s fate will play out behind closed doors before Judge Leonard Shapiro in Boston. Onyango’s lawyer, Margaret Wong of Ohio, successfully argued to reopen her case in December and have the proceedings closed to the public, according to the Executive Office for Immigration Review, which oversees immigration courts.
Onyango declined two requests for interviews in recent days, and told a reporter to stop wasting her time.
“I’m not happy,” Onyango said, bundled up in a parka against the spring chill as she went to pick up her mail.
Wong has not responded to repeated requests for comment. But her spokesman told the Cleveland Plain Dealer in January that Onyango would present new evidence to back an asylum claim. Onyango has lost several attempts to fight deportation, said immigration court spokeswoman Elaine Komis. In 2003, a judge ordered her to leave the country, and she lost on appeal. She tried again, but an immigration judge ordered her deported in October 2004. Komis would not confirm whether Onyango had sought asylum before now because, she said, asylum cases are confidential.
Shapiro, an immigration judge since 1990, rejected 68 percent of asylum requests from 2002 to 2007, higher than the state and national averages, according to the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse at Syracuse University. Asylum seekers must show that they fear persecution based on race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a social group.
Still, immigration lawyers said she has a chance because she managed to get a hearing.
Asylum fraud is rampant in the deportation system. With help from the Bush administration, Onyango has managed to escape accountability for her prolonged defiance of the law. Her case points up the interminable ways in which deportation fugitives manage to buy time after receiving orders to leave — and create new bites at the judicial apple. If she loses her case, she can appeal directly to Congress for a special relief bill.
You can beef up security on the border, but if a dysfunctional deportation abyss remains in place and if DHS refuses to enforce immigration laws on the interior, it’s more time and money down the drain.

She’ll be given a green card if not citizenship (so she can vote in 2012) despite having no visible means of supporting herself. If I was a Massachusetts taxpayer, I would be furious; they are doing what her rich nephew won’t do, paying for her housing and -likely- her healthcare, etc.
I also read that his brother in Kenya may have cholera. Is this correct?

Aaahhh, not to worry, my faith is in the Lord who is all merciful and just and He is in His heavens. He will be the same though I suffer or not. This life here is just a piece of our eternity. I may rant and rave on here, and sometimes I become sidetracked from what’s really important, but I do believe! You (figuratively) can call me weak, you can call me small minded. Why, you can even call me stupid, but I do believe in the One God who is above all others.
And we’re glad to have you. When my mother’s family immigrated here, her father came ahead and had to have money, prospects for employment (have employable skills), and a sponsor. It was two years before his wife and two daughters could come over.
The thing that chaps my a$$ is the contempt that some have for the Asians who come here. They’ll show up with nothing but the clothes on their back, and not speaking a word of English, and within two years, their kids will be valedictorians of their high school graduating class, and the family will run their own successful business. They manage to succeed just through sheer force of will, where most of us would probably give up.

Before WWII, my father-in-law’s mother was kept out of the States because she had trachoma. So, my father-in-law, and his sibs, got to spend much of their childhood under Nazi occupation.

Asians are severely discriminated against here in the US, they just keep their head down, never quit working, and assimilate. As a teacher, every year I see my Asian-descent students rejected from colleges even though they have (near) perfect scores and grades.
This year, I had a Vietmamese immigrant come to my chemistry class without speaking a word of English. In three weeks, she was my top student, laughing and joking in English. My ‘American’ students can’t touch her work ethic, her intellect, or her attitude. Sadly, she says she did most of the work we do in 12th grade when she was in 5th or 6th grade. Believe it or not.
Maybe Obama could bring her to live in the public housing he and his wife and kids live in, there’s room. Then he could give her a nice $100 steak dinner too, on Wednesdays, along with some ice-cold martinis, all on the taxpayer’s dime. The same dime Obama has been feeding off of for his entire life. Just like his aunt. Must run in the family.

My wife came to the U.S.A. as a LEGAL IMMIGRANT from Mexico. I had to prove my ability to provide for her. She had to pass police and health checks. She learned English and became an American Citizen–a proud moment for us.

Like all good LEGAL IMMIGRANTS they work here and provide for themselves and their 3 good children–honor roll students in high school, good Christians, and sports (soccer)players. No cholos, drug addicts or dealers, smokers, teenage moms, etc. Just good future American Citizens when they turn 18 years old. It took 5 years for them to LEGALLY IMMIGRATE to our country.

Down in Arizona we get along with the Border Patrol and local Sheriffs just fine-so far. We have had some cartoon characters from the ACLU and Open Border Groups try to harass us. But it is easy to lose them in the desert-big desert down here. But we don’t let them wander around lost too long. It is tempting but we don’t. We HAVE left their cars stuck. DRY UP THE MAGNETS that draw and keep illegal aliens here and they will self deport. Regardless of how they arrived (sneaking over the border or visa overstays). No welfare. No food stamps. No gov’t benefits of any kind (especially housing). No jobs (severe penalties on employers for knowingly hiring illegals). No anchor babies. No hope of citizenship. Punitive penalties for repeat offenses. No court appeals when apprehended, only immediate deportation. Make it generally uncomfortable to live here illegally.
This is the only true long term solution to this invasion.
