The bigger tax problems of Kathleen Sebelius
A group of conservative leaders including reps from the Family Research Council, Concerned Women for America, the American Conservative Union, and others released the following statement this morning regarding the HHS nomination of Gov. Kathleen Sebelius. Yes, the back taxes issue is aggravating. But this is worse:
Gov. Sebelius May Not Pay Her Own Taxes, but Has no Qualms about Using Tax Dollars to Pay for Others’ Abortions
“Disclosures that Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, President Obama’s nominee to head the Department of Health and Human Services, faces tax problems provides yet one more example of the incompetence that has characterized the Obama administration’s transition process. By disclosing that she was forced to pay over $7000 in back taxes after her nomination, Gov. Sebelius joined the ranks of Obama nominees who thought they were above paying taxes, a group that includes her predecessor as nominee for HHS, Sen. Tom Daschle.
Gov. Sebelius may not pay her own taxes, but has no qualms about using tax dollars to pay for others’ abortions. Even before she reported her tax issues Gov. Sebelius was manifestly unqualified to run America’s health care system, as illustrated by her coddling of the abortion industry at the expense of Kansas women’s safety. With her background, Gov. Sebelius can only be expected to politicize the office of HHS. Gov. Sebelius’s difficulties illuminate an emerging pattern: that Obama nominates non-experts who cannot be relied upon to solve their own tax problems, let alone govern effectively.
Obama Nominees See Taxes As Other People’s Problems
Obama nominations with tax problems are by no means limited to Gov. Sebelius and Sen. Daschle at HHS. Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner, OMB performance officer Nancy Killefer, Labor Secretary Hilda Solis, and U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk have all demonstrated an inability to get their own personal tax affairs in order, and yet Obama expects us to believe they are capable of governing a nation of more than 300 million people.
Gov. Sebelius Even Opposed Parental Notification
More acute than her tax problems, Gov. Sebelius is not to be trusted with any aspect of citizens’ health care. As a member of the Kansas House of Representatives in the 1980s and 1990s Gov. Sebelius voted to weaken or eliminate even such modest measures as parental notification, waiting periods and informed consent. As governor, she twice has vetoed bills attempting to protect the health and safety of women by more tightly regulating abortion clinics. Gov. Sebelius has been endorsed by Planned Parenthood and they have conducted fundraising activity on her behalf. Clearly, Gov. Sebelius has a track record of politicizing common-sense health issues.
Gov. Sebelius Can’t Be Trusted On Her Own Taxes, But Wants to Run 16% of Economy
As Secretary of the HHS, Gov. Sebelius will be tasked with implementing Obama’s massive health care changes. Someone so indebted to the abortion industry that she vetoes common-sense provisions is incapable of administering any meaningful change or reform in the health care sector.
Gov. Sebelius is unable to manage her own affairs or the affairs of her state. It is ironic that the same woman who pledged in a confirmation hearing to crack down on medical fraud to signal that there was ‘a new sheriff in town’ would ignore our tax laws until she is nominated to the Cabinet. Obviously, she is incapable of running the HHS.”

Another in a long line of tax cheats is also of the same mold (pro-baby killing) as the one who appointed her. Imagine that!
Duhbama doesn’t really care about his appointees not paying their taxes. He still has you and me to make up for their money.
Now don’t go about trying to sink her nomination… we just rid of that woman and don’t want her back.
Colloquialisms like “The fox is guarding the henhouse” or “The inmates are running the asylum” sound appropos for this liberal administration and congress. Then again, we all knew it was coming based just on Obama’s liberal record and past associations. No surprises here.
To top it off, the arrogance of this administration is mind-boggling especially during these dark, economic times when examples should be set.
I just read an article on how the military has had to hire foreign contractors to ferry supplies to our bases in Afghanistan in order to haul Obama’s limousine, helicopters, and his entourage of 500 to Europe.
Any President worth his salt would make sure military logistical operations during a war took precedent over his boondoggle of a visit that’s costing taxpayers umpteen millions of dollars that make his tax cheats look like pikers.
I’m afraid all of these death blows to the United States have to take place in order for a one world currency, order and religion to take place. You see, I read the back of the Book and it doesn’t look good for the old, U S of A.
Oh, nothing to see here…move along…
Sebelius is pro-abortion, and radically so. That absolves her of any wrongdoing.
After many Postal workers went on murdering rampages in the 80’s- Going Postal became the national catch-phrase to describe or measure one’s anger or likelihood of violence.
In lieu of the MULTITUDE of Democrats who have had a range of tax problems and unlawful behavior in their handling of their taxes- I submit to you..that in the future…when Americans wish to avoid paying taxes or evade it all together (and with any degree of success…)
Going Democrat!
I ask for the 100th time: Why pay taxes anymore?
Erin, I am in total agreement. Funny thing, I heard this same thing 30 years ago and no one did anything and look what we have today. It seems such a simple thing and would get a point across faster than anything. I dunno, maybe saner minds prevail, but for the life of me, all of us like sheep to the slaughter, send in those tax forms with our checks every year.
Reason number 897,562 that Missourians still hate Kansans.
There have been too many of these tax cheats supposedly vetted by Obama’s people. They must know about these problems, or certainly some of them. Apparently, they don’t care. They can do whatever they want then lie about it. This mess is getting scarier every day and I don’t usually scare.
Amen MilesFromKansas, I was thinking the same thing.
Ah, there it is… someone else finally said it. “Apparently, they don’t care” (#11). That’s the premise behind the whole agenda. They DON’T care because the objective is to kill the entire culture, economy, and way of life so that they can move in with their own government. They won’t care until we mass together enough force to throw them out and/or in jail. If you listen to ANY of the present sub-committe hearings in Washington, it should be clear that they all believe, and blatantly so, that THEY are ABOVE the law!! “Do as I say, not as I do”. This has to stop NOW!!
That is EXACTLY what my Kansas son told me yesterday.
I guess that if she is killing people NATIONALLY, then people in the state of KANSAS won’t need to worry.
Oh, and her biggest fan in Kansas, Dr. Tiller-the-Baby-Killer should have been strung up by parts unmentionable on MM’s blog.
Because, Erin, they come after us! Remember Geitner saying he was going to “vigorously prosecute” tax evaders? Now that one earned him a big fat SNORT!
What really gets me about the vetting process here is the bashing that McCain took for supposedly “not properly vetting Sarah Palin”. Heck, it looks like McCain vetted Joe the Plumber better than Dohbama is doing vetting his cabinet.
It’s too bad SNL is in the tank for Dohbama, they could do some really great stuff with just the tax issue. Not to mention foreign relations.
Sebelius is absolved from wrongdoing only by wrongheaded humans. She will still have to answer to her maker for enabling those who harm “the least of these.”
Some of you all out there – please rethink the “dont pay taxes” talk.
As Christians, I believe, we are still to “render unto Ceasar.”
It is still the law of the land and as long as the courts have the power, they can make your life very difficult. Anyone on this site advocating tax evasion should be kicked off.
Hey now..I have found when typing a post, the last sentence is generally the one most unnecessary..as is in this case as well. Have a good one.
Do we really want to start banning people for expressing an opinion that we disagree with? Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t that the way the DailyKos is run? This is why we tolerate lgm and company.
And I don’t have a problem with rendering unto Ceasar, as long as Ceasar follows the law of the land (i.e. The Constitution of the United States) in determining what Ceasar is entitled to. And I don’t think it’s 90% of my earnings.
Cerberus the three-headed dog in charge of the health of unborn babies. A tragic comedy.
Very good. Cerberus, the guard dog to the gates of Hades.
Spoken like a true lib sheepleperson, Ceasar was the Sovereign in Rome, In the US WE are the SOVEREIGN entities and as such the Government should be rendering unto US that which belongs to US. Just to put it into perspective as it relates to Biblical relational components. Common misunderstanding among Christians.
BTW all our Founding Fathers would be kicked off the site as well,
What other perspectives or opinions do you think would meet your expectation of justification for who should be “kicked off” MM’s site?
Just Sayin’
Apparently there is a misunderstanding here between tax evasion, tax avoidance and tax resistance. Tax avoidance is the lawful avoiding of paying all the tax due by the use of legal deductions, etc.
Several people on this site advocate tax resistance – not paying taxes because of some problem they have with the government. Maybe they have a problem of conscience giving the government their money, but paying taxes is still the law. OF COURSE they should express their problems of conscience all they want.
But sometimes it seems the tax resisters come awfully close to advocating tax evasion which is a crime. I was simply rasing a caution flag between the two opinions. I’m just guessing, but I bet MM would not like folks to advocate crime here.
By the way GUS, I am a registered Republican who used to work in a CPA firm that OFTEN dealt with people who did not pay their taxes for one of the following reasons I stated above. Our firm did many Offers in Compromise for people who could not legally pay their taxes. But I can guarantee you, if you get labeled a criminal by the IRS you are in DEEP trouble.
CNN spun this story with this….paraphrasing Wolf.
“The fact that so many of Obama’s nominees have been found to have made mistakes on their taxes just shows the extensive and competent vetting his team is doing.”
Just advocating OBEYING the law whether you are a repub or a dem.
Not advocating anything Illegal, not an Anarchist as it appears that you suggest, just a little confused at the selective prosecution of Voluntary Code and the implementation being somewhat skewed as it relates to Politicians vs. Citizens. That the government uses the IRS as a weapon to coerce the populace into compliance with a Voluntary program (per Harry Reid)is unnacceptable. Perhaps advocation for change isn’t a Constitutional obligation for the people of the US. The frustration we all feel as we see our country destroyed by our representatives and unequal application of the law is the point. Not Looking forward to one world govt. religion or commerce.
Seriously – If you are a citizen who is behind on their taxes, whether you can’t afford them, or you have been resisting them, there is help out there. Find a good, local CPA firm or tax law firm specializing in tax problem resultion. Most accept payment plans. Check references. It will be worth it, but be patient – you didn’t get into the problem quickly, you won’t get out quickly.
Unless of course, you’re a Democrat politician, like Sebelius.
Let the rest of the US get a taste of Kitty Kat – I and many of the people I know are glad to be rid of her.
It’s simple, if a very large number of people do not file their income tax..the gobment can’t do a whole lot about it. It’s getting the numbers to do it that’s always been the trick. We are all too scared to do it. I for one am all for it, especially when we pay a huge amount in just payroll taxes and it’s not additional taxes, or penalties – that’s just out of our payroll. The people who would suffer are those who prepare tax returns, like happy2behere maybe.
Sorry Gus – I did not mean to insinuate that YOU were not paying taxes, I was speaking generally.
And I should clarify the statement I made earlier – Anyone on this site who advocates the crime of tax evasion should be kicked off. That should make some of the tax resisters feel better.
I dont think Sebelius is a tax resister. My guess is, that like several Obabma nominees, who felt the rules did not apply to them, she just didn’t pay up until she had to. Good role models dont you think?
Not only does Kathleen Sebelius politicize simple health issues, she politicizes disaster relief. When tornadoes devastated her state, she went after George Bush saying that she couldn’t get any help because the National Guard were all in Iraq. The Kansas National Guard said that they hadn’t yet even been asked for help, and that they had more than plenty resources at their disposal.
I no longer prepare returns. Have not since I left years ago to work at my husband’s business to do the bills, payroll, etc. And I agree with you, payroll taxes are a you-know-what. And like you, we pay all taxes because it’s the law and because I want to keep the “mafia” out of my life.
Yes, many people dont pay taxes. The problem is, once the IRS catches up to the nontaxpayer – and they often do – the problems they can cause are NEVER worth the few bucks temporarily avoided.
Even Sebelius might agree with that.
Taxes = brain damage
Not paying Taxes = worse brain damage, more costly than paying the darn taxes to begin with.
Two little adjustments make this the perfect quote: “The thugs running the hood.”
Hi Happy2B
Didn’t take it personnaly, I pay WAY TOO MUCH in Taxes. Resistance is honorable, Evasion is a different issue.
Our Spineless society will never remove the oppressive yoke that we have been deceived throughout relatively recent history to accept. The entire premise of the concept of a gradual income tax is antithetical to the concept of Freedom.
If noone has the courage to challange the crooks, we are doomed to see through, to it’s fruition, the failure of the “American Experiment” I am a big proponnent of the Fair Tax, what the GOP has on the table for the Obammasiah at the moment comes close.
I thought Kansas was a red state, how did this baby killer supporter, tax avoiding POS get elected to any office, never mind Gov. of a supposed conservative state?
“how did this baby killer supporter…” refer to Tiller The Baby Killer…and he gets acquitted of killing babies…maybe Kansas isn’t so red after all.
Really can’t be too surprised by a juries verdict anymore, just look who the “people” voted in as POTUS.
It really doesn’t matter who said this, just that it was said.
From a lady on one of our many daytime “News and Views” shows. This regarding another Obama appointee (Sebelius) who don’t pay all their taxes–”does anyone really care?”
Kind of a “what else is new now lets get on with the show” attitude.
This blasé “who cares” goes to show just how far the MSM has gone into the Obama “tank”.
Overt Criminal behavior is “so what”
PC is Thought Control
