The Trash America Tour 2009

By Michelle Malkin  •  April 7, 2009 12:25 PM

Now you know: Team Obama’s world tour wasn’t about defending America and advancing our best interests. It was about raising President Obama’s approval numbers among the Euroweenies.

Bow. Scrape. Bush-bash. Suck up. Mission accomplished!

President Obama’s expressions of regret for the Bush years is only one aspect of what has been jam-packed schedule full of announcements and negotiations, but it’s been a striking part of his message.

Some conservative critics have expressed chagrin at this. On Fox News, conservative columnist Charles Krauthammer said “When Kennedy arrived in Paris, he did not attack Eisenhower and the United States. When Obama’s elected president, he is president of all of the United States, including Americans who opposed him, and he owns American history, including a past he may not have wanted to engage in. I think what he did is, in order to gain the adoration of the crowd, he denigrated his country in a way that I think is disgraceful.”

The Obama White House sees it quite differently, pointing to poll numbers showing an erosion of support for the U.S. during President Bush’s two terms, and improved international poll numbers now.

Not only was this trip an opportunity for President Obama “to establish personal relationships with leaders of many countries, with leaders who are going to be important to us in promoting America’s interest in the world,” said White House senior adviser David Axelrod Tuesday morning, “as important, we’ve I think begun a dialogue with the people of these countries, as well… That will make it easier for leaders of these nations to work cooperatively with us moving forward is the fact that we have a more positive image among their constituents.”

Axelrod said “that plainly is true — you can see it in all the polling that’s been released in the last few days — I think in every country in Europe, we’ve made progress in this.”

Good work, Comrade.

How about your constituents here, Mr. Obama? How many French, Saudis, Turks, Brits will be casting ballots for you in 2012? Okay, legally casting ballots?

What in theeeeeee hell has gone wrong with governance in this nation? Illegal immigrants get in front of citizens on college tuition and healthcare. Now Euros and Arabs and their opinions matter more to a sitting US president than those of the people who actually elected him.

Welcome to the Bizarro States of America.

Great, as if it isn’t wonderful enough to have OUR country run based upon public opinion within our borders, now we have now crossed over into the politically correct “twilight zone” to the point that international opinion will now be used to run OUR country.

Message to BHO: Sometimes the measure of success in international affairs is NOT measured by how happy you make countries on a globetrotting “hope and change” tour, but instead by just how far you’re willing to go against such pressure based upon an affirmative belief in our own innate good or moral conduct. Sometimes, the folks on the other end of this may disagree, did you ever wonder what Roosevelt’s popularity numbers looked like in Japan or Germany? Just ask Hirohito or Hitler…

But not to worry, because you see such popularity will enable us…

…“to establish personal relationships with leaders of many countries, with leaders who are going to be important to us in promoting America’s interest in the world,”

    Hmm…
Supplication before the house of Saud? – CHECK
Being called a “comrade” by the leader of a former socialist nation? – CHECK
Saying “I love this guy” to a self-admitted racist and leader of one of the most corrupt governments in South America? – CHECK
    Insulting longstanding allies? – CHECK
Selling out your own constituency in the name of adulation and popularity? – CHECK
Yep – we’re really wowing them internationally.

Hard to believe we’ve come so…(ahem)…far…in just 90 days… Can hardly wait for the next 1300 days.

Confirming the above, the White House comments:

“that plainly is true — you can see it in all the polling that’s been released in the last few days — I think in every country in Europe, we’ve made progress in this.”

I saw the same interview with Rove; what struck me was his spot-on identification of Hope-a-Dope’s weaving of a false narrative for the past 8 years to portray himself the “un-Bush” — even though he’s continuing many of the Bush-era foreign policies.

What’s also interesting about the “perpetual campaign” chest-thumping of hacks like Axelrod is that so far Hope-a-Dope’s most significant foreign policy accomplishments in Europe have been to:

    (1) Hang the Czechs and Poles out to twist in the wind for backing us on missile defense, while sucking up to “Comrade” Putin; and

    (2) Submit vast sectors of the American economy to regulation by Europeans, while getting nothing in return when it comes to supporting our “contingency operation” in Afghanistan.

Historians are going to pull their hair out trying to peg what Hope-a-Dope’s one-term presidency will have amounted to:

    - Lyndon Johnson’s second term: “Great Society 2.0″, anyone?

    - George McGovern’s / Michael Dukakis’ / Al Gore’s / John Kerry’s first term: “There’s no problem that can’t be solved by America apologizing and walking away.”

    - Jimmy Carter’s second term: Stagflation and “malaise” at home, retreat and defeat abroad. Where’s the Killer Rabbit when we need him?

    - Bill Clinton’s third term: Tax Hikes for Everyone, “What do the polls say is in it for me?” and “The most ethical administration, evah!!”

In the end, he’ll go down as a small man in a big job, who never learned anything from history because he was too busy trying to write himself into it — and thereby ushered us all into the era of “Post-Prosperity America.”

How many rights and how much of our soverignty are Americans willing to give up to please Europe and feel like they’re part of the “in-crowd” again?

For a political party (the Dems) who think they’re intellectual Einsteins and look down on the “common folk” this popularity-seeking behavior seems in stark contrast to its past assertions. This country has lost its heart and soul in a bid to be BFF’s with Europe and the Muslim World.

    The Trash America Tour 2009

Bush often confused his personal interests and the interests of the Republican party with the interests of the nation. And here you go again.

President Obama’s expressions of regret for the Bush years is only one aspect

Obama wasn’t trashing America, he was trashing Bush and the neocons. Most Americans agree that Bush made a mess of US foreign relations (and US domestic relations too, and everything else …).

It was about raising President Obama’s approval numbers among the Euroweenies.

America needs friends in the world. You’re so bitter. Anyone who opposed reckless Bush is a weenie. Well, the party of Bush was defeated by one of those weenies. His domestic approval rating is a wee bit higher than the last four years of Bush.

Don’t talk to me about polling. Axelrod and all the rest know full well that polls are bogus 90 percent of the time. They are not tools of measuring public opinion, but of pushing or pulling it in a particular direction. Take for example a poll in the New York Times yesterday that purported to show an increasing optimistic outlook toward the economy since Obama’s inauguration. If you were to actually look at the questions and the results, which were skewed to begin with by over sampling Democrats, as is the pattern, you’d see that a majority of people oppose the actions that have been taken, including the bailouts and vastly increasing the national debt. But instead, the New York Times spins the results to show an increase in confidence, from a very low number to a slightly less low number, but still a negative. So they trumpet Obama’s restoring confidence in the nation. What a load of crap.

lgm – apples to oranges… Compare approval ratings 3 weeks in. G.W. Bush was at 55-60% approval, BHO is at 60% – call it a wash. Let’s reserve our judgment until BHO’s 4th year then compare the approval ratings. Assuming that we’re not all living in “green,” eco-friendly, caves by that time…

You’re so bitter. Anyone who opposed reckless Bush is a weenie. Well, the party of Bush was defeated by one of those weenies.

lgm – apples and oranges once again… Look at the portion of MM’s lead that you quoted, “It was about raising President Obama’s approval numbers among the Euroweenies.” While the Euroweenies may have had a hand in the election of BHO via the antics of ACORN, the issue MM was indicating was that BHO is in full court press appeasement mode to the Europeans and trashing all of us (you too…) in the process. I agree with MM that this is offensive. I don’t need a president to apologize for me. By the way, regarding the use of the term “Euroweenies” – name one assertive act by a European nation in the last 30 years…

Obama wasn’t trashing America, he was trashing Bush and the neocons. Most Americans agree that Bush made a mess of US foreign relations (and US domestic relations too, and everything else …).

OK – help me to understand. You say “Obama wasn’t trashing America, he was trashing Bush and the neocons” but didn’t Bush represent the people of the US on the international stage in the same way that BHO is supposed to represent the American people on the same stage? In that regard, BHO has trashed Bush directly and every American he represented indirectly.

    Best for last…

Bush often confused his personal interests and the interests of the Republican party with the interests of the nation.

Please advise on how BHO/government control of the financial and manufacturing sectors in the United States of America is in the best “interest of the nation.”

That’s funny. After watching the video of the Sheriff’s Deputies going off at how they have been called “racist” and about the cries of “racial profiling”, I went to their website and sent them a “Thank You” and “Right On” letter of support. The Sheriff and his Deputies are doing a great job over there, and their Fire Department is leading the way in teaching other departments across the nation and in other countries the proper way to treat the populace and deal with people and situations.

People are really beginning to become fed-up with the constant cries of “racist” and accusations of “racial profiling”. I have been waiting a long time for them to go too far and have it all blow up in their faces. When you cry wolf too many times, eventually it will lose it’s meaning and no one will listen or respond. It appears that has finally happened there, and hopefully it will begin to spread everywhere, leading to the people at the airports and elsewhere who fit the “profile” of who will actually commit a crime and finally they will end searching the 90 year old grandmothers, just so no one’s delicate sensibilities are not bruised.

And just how can anyone defend a President of the United States that talks smack about the country he leads? How can anyone actually support a President of the United States, the man who represents this country where ever he goes, when he doesn’t even speak highly of his alleged own country?

I am personally sick and tired of being sick and tired of listening to Liberals and Democrats talk down about this country, how embarrassed they are to be from here or even of being American at all. How on earth can anyone who represents this nation be allowed to continue to hold office when they speak poorly of this country to other nations, either in public or in private? Do we really care what people in Europe or anywhere else think about us? They are all the way on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, for one thing. They have lead this world into two incredibly devastating wars that cost tens of millions of lives just in the last century alone, outside of Great Britain, they can’t maintain any one form of government for very long, they have a long and extensive history of violence, death, oppression etc., yet our President is over there to gin up his poll numbers to those that have absolutely no say in who gets elected what-so-ever?

Maybe someone should remind him to stop believing his own press. He is not the “President of the World”, he is the President of the United States of America, and as such he is supposed to be a PROUD American and represent us in the best light possible. What France, Luxembourg, Germany or any other European country thinks of our internal policies doesn’t matter. It is none of their business. What we think of the European Union should not matter either. Hell, even they haven’t figured out if they like it or not. But that has nothing to do at all with Obama’s narcissism. He has been believing what his own people say about him, and it is getting worse and worse. He is becoming one of the largest megalomaniacal people in history, and someone in the press needs to seriously begin to bring him back down to reality.

The road he has taken is a very dangerous one, and it will leave him, his administration, and Liberals in general stuttering and sputtering, wondering what they did wrong once one of these “mis-understood” dictators strikes out against the US, as they have been planning to do for a long time. All Obama is doing is to help them lull people into a false sense of security. And making himself look like a narcissistic a** in the process.
