The thing that has really begun to bug me is that despite having all kinds of ships, aircraft, and drones that amount to a gazillion dollars of taxpayer funded equipment…….we are seeing no live shots, no taped shots, no still shots. Geez! Half the photo’s and film the news services are using to accompany stories are stock footage.

Just saw the above comment regarding impeachment omeo13. Sorry, but when I start seeing that early on my tin foil hat alarm starts beeping.

And it may be that the captain is one to have discovered that unfortunate truth the hard way when he went overboard last night. Was he perhaps expecting/hoping that the Navy would use that opportunity to take out the thugs? The Navy was right there watching it happen – did Obama order them to stand down, have their hands tied and stick to an ‘Observe and Report’ function?

If Obama did have anything to do with their lack of response to that opportunity and this captain ends up dead later I think we can start shouting – IMPEACHMENT!

As there was no “Hot Pursuit”, because the Bainbridge did not arrive until after the Pirates left the ship…

This is a Kidnapping, and the Navy really has no authority to get involved in a kidnapping, especialy after the last GITMO decision by the Supremes (made military prisoners subject to US Courts).

Got clued in when the FBI called in Hostage negotiators, and the DOD has their own people trained in this.

Just watched the state dept news conferance. Nothing said at all to indicate we are doing nothing other than the new Obama policy of “bend over and take it”. We are negotiating with pirates now. Welcome back to the Jimmy Carter years.

Thank you longbow, a good starting point. But my addition to that plan would be….once we have the captain back we kill them anyway. It would do much to cut down on future piracy attempts. Sometimes you just gotta make a point. But hey, it’s just a dream of mine, I REALLY do not think in my wildest dreams that Obama would ever suddenly grow a pair.

“Hostage negotiating team” – I hope the “negotiation” consists of telling the pirates, “Release the Captain and we will allow you to live, otherwise you will die” and give them about 10 minutes to think it over.

Anything less is capitulation and will just lead to more piracy in the future. As long as pirates think they can get away with their lives and money, they’ll continue. Show them that they’ll get away with neither and the problem will be solved.

A terrorist is anyone who uses a weapon to force others to succumb to his/her demands. To limit the concept of terrorism to an ideology or political philosophy is too analytical an approach in controlling the problem.
