Spain’s green jobs boondoggle

By Michelle Malkin  •  April 13, 2009 03:33 PM

Ay caramba. Look what the green job boondoggle in Spain bodes for the porkulus green jobs here in the U.S. Confirmation of what we already knew, but extremely useful nonetheless:

Every “green job” created with government money in Spain over the last eight years came at the cost of 2.2 regular jobs, and only one in 10 of the newly created green jobs became a permanent job, says a new study released this month. The study draws parallels with the green jobs programs of the Obama administration.

President Obama, in fact, has used Spain’s green initiative as a blueprint for how the United States should use federal funds to stimulate the economy. Obama’s economic stimulus package, which Congress passed in February, allocates billions of dollars to the green jobs industry.

But the author of the study, Dr. Gabriel Calzada, an economics professor at Juan Carlos University in Madrid, said the United States should expect results similar to those in Spain:

“Spain’s experience (cited by President Obama as a model) reveals with high confidence, by two different methods, that the U.S. should expect a loss of at least 2.2 jobs on average, or about 9 jobs lost for every 4 created, to which we have to add those jobs that non-subsidized investments with the same resources would have created,” wrote Calzada in his report: Study of the Effects on Employment of Public Aid to Renewable Energy Sources.

Well, this seems in line with Obambi’s other stated goals of destroying the American economy. I wonder if all those dolts in Europe and China realize that if his plan works it will destroy their economies too?

So his policy to create 3.5 million new jobs is going to cost us 7.7 million current jobs using a 2:2 to 1 ratio?

Oh wait, I almost forgot, he said he’ll either create or save those jobs. So this is actually an easy enough solution for Obama….

By his logic, he can say that his policies saved 2.2 jobs per 1 green job from being lost.

After all, how can you disprove any claims to the number of jobs saved?

    Nuclear = Green Mr. President.

If green jobs and “green energy” in general were economically viable, wouldn’t they be every where? The only salvation for green jobs rests in $5 a gallon gasoline.

The WSJ said last week that to figure out what ethanol actually costs, compare a gallon to a bushel of corn. Then you will have it.

People that fall for the electric of hybrid cars will find they were suckers. Viable auto powered battery technology does not exist– The best there is on planet earth is made by a company called A123 systems.

I was in Madrid a week after the train bombing. The Spanish caved to the demands of 4 bad guys, & voted in a boot licking government. Spain, like the rest of Europe, had a great history, a blah as oatmeal Socialist present, & no future at all. All the jobs in Europe seem to be only bus drivers, tour guides, or waiters.

Yes but they will feel good about those jobs.

The American model will be different. In the U.S. model, 9 Americans will lose their jobs. Of the 4 created jobs, 3 of the 4 will be filled by illegal immigrants that will have crossed the border and been instantly granted amnesty.

    Obaminomics in full bloom.

P.S. Additionally, the 9 laid off Americans will have their energy costs triple due to Cap and Trade, the evil twin of the green initative. Enjoy your unemployment benefits.

Job losses? Of course! Who thinks Obama is looking for job creation? People with jobs may get taxed and may vote for Republicans.

The jobs (gross) that will be created will be political jobs that require loyalty.

OMG. Everyone should be reading Atlas Shrugged. I’m reading the book now, and sometimes I have to force myself to remember I’m only reading a book, not today’s newspaper. The parallels to what’s happening now is uncanny. That I happen to be reading it on the Long Island Rail Road to and from work as I read about Taggart Transcontinental makes it more spooky.

The Left won’t let mere facts get in the way of their agenda. If the Arctic ice cap became a mile thick and extended past North Dakota, they would still claim that Global Warming was about to destroy us all.

And if unemployment reaches 90% because of their green agenda, they’ll simply point to overpopulation, their old standby, as the real cause. Their solution to unemployment would then be to create a few more “green” government jobs producing Soylent Green from the excess population.

“No, Dumpster Muffin, no! Stop eating those green wafers. They’re not vegan! “Soylent Green is people!”

“People? Really? …Well, at least they’re not made of slaughtered animals!”
