Also note that the unnamed “prominent civil rights organization” that the DHS hit job cites to stoke anti-military paranoia is the left-wing Southern Poverty Law Center — which designated the American Legion a “hate group” for its pro-enforcement stance on immigration law.
In the eyes of Obama’s DHS, we are all “haters” now.

The report states, without any statistical evidence, “The possible passage of new restrictions on firearms and the return of military veterans facing significant challenges reintegrating into their communities could lead to the potential emergence of terrorist groups or lone wolf extremists capable of carrying out violent attacks.”

In a related story, the J S Ragman Institute for Fairness in Public Policy issued a statement today designating the Southern Poverty Law Center a “stupid group”.

I agree that the DHS report is over the top and overly broad. DHS needs to retract/clarify this “analysis”.
Good rebuttal on the part on the American Legion and far more polite than I would have drafted. The “veteran=psychotic killer” meme is getting really old. I never thought I would see the day when slurs against our veterans would be “acceptable”, let alone generated by our own government.
That being said…..on the flip side of the coin, I enjoy keeping up with the latest conspiracy theories, much like many of my friends like to watch horror flicks.
However, many of these theorists are really leaving the land of the sane. I spent far too much time today reading through the escalating hyperbole about a massive FEMA plot to round up and decapitate Christians. (I think I have summarized their position succinctly). Just google “FEMA Prisoner Trains” and you’ll see what I’m talking about. There were a few places that I wandered to this morning following the thread of a link that I wished I hadn’t now, but it’s too late….my browser feels so dirty now.
There appears to be a closed loop and ever-escalating paranoia to these claims, and unlike the Area 51/Alien coverup conspiracies, these appear to be citing support for resistance to any type of disaster relief effort. What bothers me is that people can be driven to unbelievably irrational acts under the guise of defending their religious views. Religious extremism and fervor of any stripe is scary.
DHS definitely needs to be called out for this egregarious error, but to be fair, they have to sift through and keep up with all manner of loons.

Obama signed a national abortion bill which, essentially, limits if not removes the states rights to legislate abortion even on children. Those of us paying attention know he has set precedence. Next up, the second amendment. Which entity legislate gun control? The states. With a stroke of a pen, your messiah will strike down the states right to legislate gun control and cite his abortion bill as precedence. If that does not strike fear into you, nothing will. There are many of us that understand the implication and take Obama’s word, prior to being elected, that he will seize control of our rights (concerning gun ownership) which is the reason for the spike in gun/ammo sales.
You just keep on thinking this means nothing. The rest of us are not buying guns to become terrorists or to participate in terrorist activities. We will defend our rights and we will go to war when the attack comes to our land again at the invite of the liberal leadership.

The term Bush Derangement Syndrome was coined to describe people who actually acted in a deranged manner. In an ex post facto attempt to legitmize their lunacy the lefties come in here and call any disagreement with their Chosen One “derangment”. Then they look back on ’00 – ’08 as though there was nothing unusual or unseemly about their conduct.
Well, it ain’t so. It’s not deranged to object to someone putting your unborn great grandchildren in debt. It’s not deranged to object to being called a terrorist just for disagreeing with the government. And there very much was a lot that was unusual, unseemly and truly deranged about how many people responded to Bush over the years.

It’s good and necessary for people to push back against these types of slurs. It is also very alarming when you consider it comes hard on the heels of the recent Missouri “intel” report labeling those with Ron Paul bumper stickers eligible for “monitoring”. This is the same Missouri, home to Sen Caskill, which tried to intimidate and threaten anti-Obama commentators. You will recall that Gov Blunt issued a statement about the inappropriate use of law enforcement to try and silence critics through coercion and intimidation. Same same. I guess that’s the “Change”.
Ed M, I have no idea how Daily Kos works. I don’t post there. But I do remember reading many times how conservative websites were much better than Daily Kos because they didn’t ban people because of their views.
And, on-my-soap-box, I’m trying to keep these short and simple. If you think they’re talking points, so be it.
Short and simple is not the definition of a talking point any more then buying a gun makes one a terrorist.
I do have one point to add to this — while decrying the smearing of veterans in this report, we must be sure we don’t blanket smear DHS as well.
Post 9-11, several agencies got folded into DHS, which is now an extremely dysfunctional agency.
There are lots of really good folks who work at the new-and-improved DHS….many of whom are former military and lifelong public servants.
I am more interested in when the report was produced, under who’s direction and who the authors were. I’d like those authors to be accountable and appear on major media to defend their “analysis”.
Let’s not blanket smear DHS the way the report blanket smears veterans. Let’s out those responsible and keep them accountable.

All I have to do is look back on New Orleans after Katrina. 2 days without power and the place collapsed into anarchy. Read stories about victims, and people that defended themselves (until the government confiscated the guns). Then read about the current administration thinking that we need MORE gun control at the federal level.
Then read about the Chinese hacking into our power grid. Then read about the amount of our debt being held by the Chinese and how easy it would be for them to destroy our economy.
Then buy more guns and ammo. We have the makings of a perfect storm.

Uninformed is still uninformed and I don’t care who they are. The uninformed and clueless control this country. These folks don’t care how much of the Constitution they have to burn, how many rights can be given away, how much sovereignty they can sell, to do it.
Being uninformed and clueless has led to the great divide between who actually serve this country (the military) and those who don’t (civil society). When you don’t know how the country was created and how many people died and sacrificed to make America a reality, too many people would rather believe a pretty voice rather than see the reality of our corrupt Washington government.
When the country goes under (and it will with all this debt), there will be a stark difference between those who care about this country and those who only want to sell it out to secure their comfort and settle for the yoke of China.
As a life member of the VFW, I’m ashamed that this organization has not taken the lead. I guess that once you get into the leadership, you get politically correct. Washington DC is the most corrupt place in the universe!

Is there a China in Fairyland? Because that is the only place China gives a putrid fig about the US economy. Communist China is at war with the US, a war without guns. This is about toppling the US system of political life by infiltrating our society at every level and fueling the chaos that is engulfing us…beginning with the greed of our elected representatives in Washington DC (nuclear secrets and the Clintons for example).
This is about hegemony without direct military conflict. Our economic model is collapsing. And once China converts its treasury notes to cash….and losing out on all those cush interest payments, they will start a stampede in the commodities market to trigger the hyperinflation in this country that will cause more starvation in the US that will rival “third world” rates.

Oh, NOW they deserve the benefits they (we) have earned. A couple weeks ago he wanted our private insurance to cover our combat related health problems. And some wonder why we take what he says with a ton of salt.
This only applies to liberals — Freedom of speech only applies to the left. Its a ‘free speech for me but not for thee’ type of deal.
Now I have to go join the American Legion just to fill up my “indicators.”

The American Legion passed Resolution 407. It resolved, in part, “…we consider any individual, group of individuals or organizations, which creates, or fosters racial, religious or class strife among our people, or which takes into their own hands the enforcement of law, determination of guilt, or infliction of punishment, to be un-American, a menace to our liberties, and destructive to our fundamental law…”
That really pisses off Da Bama.
