California Tea Party to California GOP: Smackdown

By Michelle Malkin  •  April 15, 2009 05:18 PM

Something hugely significant just happened here at the Sacramento Tea Party. Organizer Mark Meckler singled out GOP opportunists who wouldn’t give him the time of day weeks ago — and then wanted to hitch their wagons to the Tea Party bandwagon at the last minute.

Meckler said he heard that California GOP chair Ron Nehring was in the audience. Meckler invited him to say hi to the crowd — and then ripped him for waffling on the massive tax hike ballot measures (particularly Prop1A – $16 billion tax hikes).

Massive boos from the crowd of thousands here against the Calif. GOP establishment.

Will this make the MSM coverage? It doesn’t fit the narrative. But it’s yet another demonstration that this movement is not partisan and equal opportunity when it comes to holding politicians’ feet to the fire for fiscal irresponsibility and fecklessness.

There were very few reporters anywhere that could be seen in Sac. I was standing behind and around the stage for almost two hours, and in that time saw only one “Press” photog. and one news crew. The news crew was from S.F. and was, I believe, the CBS affiliate. The cameraman and I both went through the bushes to get backstage at the same time, and I even told him, “good luck” in his attempt to get through the crowd to get to the stage. There was an NBC S.F. news van driving around when I arrived, but never saw it parked. The only news truck/van I saw parked anywhere was the Fox satelite truck, of which I have a couple of pictures.

I did see one person making notes, but there was no camera present. All people I saw taking pictures were doing so with small digital cameras. Mine seemed to be the most professional looking in attendance, so I don’t think anyone claiming that these stories were written in advance is very far off the mark.

It will never make the MSM coverage. If the story doesn’t drool over Obama, or make outrageous claims about conservatives, it’s not news-worthy to them.

How did that leftist talking-head news person put it?

“It’s not sexy and it doesn’t bleed.”

    So they don’t cover it.

I was a volunteer at the Fresno Tea Party, worked the registration table. We signed up close to 7,000 and I know that many many did not sign up….some fear of government recognition there. I am pretty sure that the California GOP was not brought up….I was sort of busy talking to all the right wing extremists….from EVERY walk of life…. but I never heard booing….so I am pretty sure the GOP was not mentioned. Also worth saying …I heard not a single vulgar word….and I was on the trash pick up patrol….we could not find one bags worth to pick up….I have to fight a bit to keep down a great feeling of superiority …I mean the others are our fellow creatures….are they not?
