California Tea Party to California GOP: Smackdown

By Michelle Malkin  •  April 15, 2009 05:18 PM

Something hugely significant just happened here at the Sacramento Tea Party. Organizer Mark Meckler singled out GOP opportunists who wouldn’t give him the time of day weeks ago — and then wanted to hitch their wagons to the Tea Party bandwagon at the last minute.

Meckler said he heard that California GOP chair Ron Nehring was in the audience. Meckler invited him to say hi to the crowd — and then ripped him for waffling on the massive tax hike ballot measures (particularly Prop1A – $16 billion tax hikes).

Massive boos from the crowd of thousands here against the Calif. GOP establishment.

Will this make the MSM coverage? It doesn’t fit the narrative. But it’s yet another demonstration that this movement is not partisan and equal opportunity when it comes to holding politicians’ feet to the fire for fiscal irresponsibility and fecklessness.

The obvious, but avoided, point being that these Tea Parties are just regular people coming out with a common kvetch, while a “rally” is an organized event with bussed in people, union “voluntary” participation, and other leftwing entitlement groups.

It is obvious too, that you are an Obama licker, and the gigantic deficit and likely Zimbabwe style inflation that Obambi is forcing down the country’s throat (no apology to Barney Frank), which will put us in economic thrall to China among other, is perfectly fine with you.

Just got back from the protest in Monterey, CA. This area went 87% to Obama.

The protest was scheduled for 5:00 – 6:00 pm. I arrived at 4:45; the news were just wrapping up their coverage, so the shots on the news were light and not indicative of the #’s that showed. In spite of that, unlike the CNN reporter, the local news coverage here was fair & balanced.

My estimate is about 600 people, which is a huge turnout for a small town. I left just before 6, and more people were still arriving — my college age kids stayed and just reported that at 6:30 pm, the protest shows no sign of abating/dispersing, in fact more people continue to arrive.

Good cross section of people — all races. Lots of union members and teachers which surprised me. Local business handing out samples to the crowd “before they get taxed out of business”. Some creative signs — a few pitchforks! Very cute group of girls about 10 -11 yr olds, chanting, “We Want Capitalism”. They’re Girl Scouts, sell cookies, and “know capitalism works!”.

Abel Maldonado is our local State rep. Several signs, Impeach Maldonado (R), and of course, Impeach Obama. “The real pirates are in DC”.

Some “alternative media” types wandering through the crowd, “confused” as to what this is all about. They genuinely don’t get it.

Much chatter in the crowd not only about the taxation, but the erosion of rights and liberty. Many comments about according to DHS, just being there makes us “terrorists”.

A very lame “counter-protest” of about 6 people across the street, holding Obama signs, “Proud American Taxpayer” and “Stop Corporate Greed, Tax the Rich”.

This movement is growing. Most people saying it’s time for term limits (“No more career politicians”), and to start voting for Independents who are accountable.

Official statement from RINO-King John Boehner:

“Across our nation, thousands of Americans are participating in taxpayer tea parties today for one simple reason: overtaxed families and small businesses have had enough,” House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, said Wednesday.

“They’ve had enough of the Democrats entrenched criminal class of elected politicians* forcing taxpayers to pick up the tab for more wasteful spending instead of working together to make the tough fiscal decisions Americans are forced to make each and every day. They’ve had enough of seeing their hard-earned tax dollars wasted on pork-barrel spending that won’t create jobs, rebuild their savings, or get our economy moving again. And they’ve had enough of Congress and the White House mortgaging our children and grandchildren’s future by saddling them with mountains of debt destined to bankrupt our country,” Boehner said.

*My correction. I’m sure he actually meant to use my corrected statement. After all, he coined the term ‘crap sandwich” for porkulus before ordering Republican congressmen to vote for it.

Just finished watching Hannity’s show and it was very good right up until he unleashed his country singer buddy at the very end. The dudes song was laying all the blame for poor ‘ol Detroits problems on Wall Street, NY, etc. but nothing about the greedy flea-bags in the union leadership let alone “The ONE” himself and congress (both parties).
It sounded to me (IMHO) as if many in the crowd felt similarly to me, as when those who cheered when exhorted by the misguided singer (and Hannity) were much, much less enthusiastic as they were to all other guests. In fact, it also sounded like many were actually saying “boo”. Maybe just me but…

    However, as seen on Fox:

Was Hannity trying to turn the Atlanta Tea Party into a Republican event? Doesn’t he get it either?

And now Greta is going to talk to the chairman of the RNC?

    I’m going to bed.

Nota, that song irks the hell out of me. When it comes on, I sing that part as, while they are living it up in that New York City town, the unions are shutting Detroit down.

It does not matter what the turnout was today it was impressive. What the professional protesters and MSM don’t get is the taxpayer is usually footing the bill for the ACORN, etc. protesters to show up.

Unfortunately, those of US who pay the taxes to fund those protests have to take a vacation day or leave time from work to show up in the middle of the day. I bet that when it is all said and done there were are lot more of us than of them.

Plus the fact we were “thinking globally (nationally) and acting locally” which was how we tried to “reduce our carbon footprint” instead of generating all the “greenhouse gases” to transport people to protest.

Hardly. Most are just fiscal conservatives who don’t have the cajones to call themselves Democrats. If anyone wants to see what will happen to the National GOP if the “moderates” and “modernizers” stifle the conservatives, just look at California. Not pretty.

5 years ago Commiefornia did the unthinkable. It recalled the Grey Satan and elected a Republican. GAS (Governor Ahnuld Schwartzenegger) promised to “break all the boxes” in Sacratomato.

    GAS lied.

5 years later GAS has left a legacy of phoney budgets ginned up by the nearly 2/3 DemocRATic legislature, and signed into law by him. The wheels are coming off the financial train now.

Thanks to GAS, the only guy with a veto pen who couldn’t hardly use it, the state is bankrupted…The entire school system could be ended and the budget still would not balance. Every single state employee could be laid off and the budget still will not balance. This is financial Armageddon led by a RINO poser who hijacked the Republican party and helped run the state into the ground.

    It’s even worse in Washington.

We have to pry the Usurper in Chief out and his minions. We have to throw the RINO’s off the train. It is up to us.

There is nobody else that is going to do it.

    Starve the beast!

“Will this make the MSM coverage?”

Who cares? Why speculate about what others will do, or not do?

It’s as if we rely on the MSM to act then we react, or that we create straw dogs to tear down. Forget about it. The MSM will do what they will do, and it means diddly-squat. Report what matters most, the facts and the truth.

Complaining about what others are doing, or not doing, is an emotional exercise that does not advance the reality of the situation, but merely provides heat but no light. It is paranoia – omigosh, what are they thinking of us?

It is about the message and not the messenger. Challenge the message and victory will follow.

The coverage that matters is that which expands our knowledge of the facts and the truth, which can only be provided by the new media.

Went to the Tea Party in Eugene, Orygun, this evening, being as blue as it is, I was very impressed by the numbers that turned out. Very nice to see, can’t help give a person real HOPE and we are making a CHANGE with the TP’s..

Couple items I feel need doing in the future…1st, hold these again nationwide on appropriate dates, don’t let it die now it’s started. The movement will only get bigger and better.
2nd, somehow conservative ideas have to become part of the future with these demonstrations. The important issues, taxes, defense, illegal aliens(boarders), term limits, energy, putting control of the legislative and judicial branches back in the hands of the people. The social issues like abortion and gay marriage should be left to the states…at this time those issues are killing conservatives on a national level. I’m not saying submit to them, but to fight them in the states…IMHO of course.

I hope we can manage to turn this into some kind of action. I would like to see some petitions like:

    1) Tell jon McCain, the Nader of the GOP, to just stay in his congressional box. A vote of “no confidence” is in order and would nip any more presidential notions in the bud.

    2) Define some basic conservative values that are NON-NEGOTIABLE. Vote against them and you die (politically only folks).

    3) Demand action from those currently sitting. No more rider bills. No more lifetime full pensions. No more free insurance, limosine services, junkets to play golf on the taxpayers’ dime, etc, etc.

This is the perfect time to turn outrage into action. Take the power back from the self-appointed royalty in DC. Don’t waste the momentum.

I lived in CA for over 30 years before bailing 6 years ago. I left for a variety of reasons, but one was that I got tired of all the free-loading liberals living off the efforts of the producers. It’s worse now than it was in 2003.

I still remember the morning that Melanie Morgan made the off-hand comment on the morning radio show, to recall Davis, which led to Arnold becoming governor. Im glad I only stayed a few more months after he was inaugurated.

But now Rick Perry’s my man for the day. We’ll see how long it takes him to be seduced by the party elite.

The GOP has squandered what they had, so screw them AND the Dems. Throw them all out – and unless there are a few congressmen and governors that will do as WE say, then we’ll have to start from scratch.

We need to get the mid-level bureaucrats that Obama is installing into critical positions out also. As soon as possible.

There were very few reporters anywhere that could be seen in Sac. I was standing behind and around the stage for almost two hours, and in that time saw only one “Press” photog. and one news crew. The news crew was from S.F. and was, I believe, the CBS affiliate. The cameraman and I both went through the bushes to get backstage at the same time, and I even told him, “good luck” in his attempt to get through the crowd to get to the stage. There was an NBC S.F. news van driving around when I arrived, but never saw it parked. The only news truck/van I saw parked anywhere was the Fox satelite truck, of which I have a couple of pictures.

I did see one person making notes, but there was no camera present. All people I saw taking pictures were doing so with small digital cameras. Mine seemed to be the most professional looking in attendance, so I don’t think anyone claiming that these stories were written in advance is very far off the mark.
