Video: Janet Napolitano’s Extremist Makeover tour

By Michelle Malkin  •  April 16, 2009 11:01 AM

Janet Napolitano made the media rounds this morning to face the public firestorm over DHS’s hit job on conservatives.

I’m calling it the Extremist Makeover tour.

She offered an apology to veterans, saying it wasn’t her intention to offend. It may not have been the intention of the report authors or Napolitano to offend or overreach, but that was certainly the effect. And it remains a mystery why Napolitano felt it necessary to distribute a shoddy nine-page report that was supposedly in the works under the Bush administration for a year, as Napolitano claims, containing zero data backing up the claim of a “resurgence” of rightwing extremist violence — and was padded with analysis from the left-wing Southern Poverty Law Center to stir fear of “disgruntled military veterans.”

On Fox and Friends this morning, Napolitano admitted that she would have changed the definition included in the report.

A reminder:

Rightwing extremism in the United States can be broadly divided into those groups, movements, and adherents that are primarily hate-oriented (based on hatred of particular religious, racial or ethnic groups), and those that are mainly antigovernment, rejecting federal authority in favor of state or local authority, or rejecting government authority entirely. It may include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration.

So, how exactly would she rewrite the definition?

We rightwing extremists want to know.

You are not excluded. This bunch has hated us for 40 years. I saw this during Vietnam when I was in HS and later as a soldier.

They will only stop hating us when they eventually die of whatever kills them. If you think they care about you, go to The Wall. They did not care about winning and they did not care about us dying while they were playing they charade. There are 58,000 reasons on that Wall why you should never trust them and never doubt for a moment what they think about you.

All during the Iraq debate up until this moment, did you ever here ONE even ONE of them talk about the importance of winning. “Ending the war” is not winning. They do not care about the sacrifices made to date. They only want votes and power.

Those are the people in charge again. Never forget it and never trust them.

She was not trusted here in AZ as Gov., that’s for sure.

On to the military. Liberals like her, and Obama, and pretty much the majority of liberals despise the military. Right now they have to pretend they do not, that the “support the troops”. That will change and before you know it they will be gutting the military budget. In thier minds vets as terrorists makes perfect sense. They really do think something has to be seriously wrong with anyone who would choose to go in the service. And once they get back from Iraq or Afganistan they cannot be trusted, they all have PTSD. I would not put it past them in the future to try and get having been in the military used to bar you from owning a gun.

She said she would have changed the definition. What that tells me is she didn’t bother to read it before releasing it.Does this sound familiar?

On the weekends she can unwind wearing jeans, a flannel shirt, Doc Martin boots. Accessorizing, with a tasteful wallet with heavy chain attached to belt loop

Michelle, how much $$ are you personally making off of this supposed hit job in the form of extra site revenue and such from this site and Hot Air? And how much extra money is Ed Morrisey making off of this?

I’d like to understand the financial motivations for blowing this out of proportion.

Jim, would you also like to make some money off of this? What kind of question is this? In college, one of my professors used to say that there is no such thing as a stupid question but there are always exceptions for “unique individuals” (how is that for civil?) like yourself.

Would you like to start your own blog yourself? Work for yourself? Or are you just jealous being that making money or being a capitalist is considered a sin these days?

I don’t think this report was blown out of proportion. You try being a veteran or an active duty military member. Are you? It’s insulting for the DHS to suggest that vets have a propensity for violence because they may have experienced PTSD or served in the military (stateside or overseas). You try being the spouse of one of those military members (like myself) and get back to me.

You have either got to be the most uninformed person on the planet or just plain obtuse. Napolitano, like many libs, is ignorant about the military, and unconsciously carries a bias toward them. This shoddily done report, which I suspect was leaked, wasn’t meant to be released.

Whatever the circumstance, aren’t you even the least bit curious about why this report was released and the purpose behind it? Is this the appropriate use of our tax dollars? Do you possess any curiousity? Or, are you like many Americans who have decided to stop asking questions of your government in return for your own comfort?

Personally, I’d like to know YOUR motivations for being on a blog that appears to not be to your liking.

What I find interesting is this, what would make a government afraid of those who have sworn to give their lives in defense of it and the our constitution?
