It's because "liberal" has a negative connotation. They came up with "progressive" because it doesn't sound like "liberal".

c-i-e,

Thanks. Keep reading the classics. We need a sense of history to deal with the problems of the future.

I sometimes wonder why the new liberals like to call themselves progressives. Probably because it allows them to activate new solutions without considering all the past similar attempts that failed.

Cabrerski,

Trust me, the British are the greatest self loathers on Earth. Like all good Liberals, however, they want to make things right as long as it doesn't inconvenience them or move in to their neighborhood.

You are right, the Early multicultural literature blamed Europeans. Now, they all blame Bush administration America.

Conservative in Europe,

Good post...

Have you ever studied any of the early multicultural literature. There is a constant harping on Europeans as the main source of suppressing others and their cultures. That they perpetuated imperialism and slavery.

Now that Obama's group is in power, well...

"Meet the new boss
Same as the old boss" - Pete Townshend

Floam,

If you asked a hotel in Europe to show Fox, they wouldn't know what you meant. The Brits have Sky news and Murdoch owns them both. Sky is the Brit version of DirectTV and they have Fox but only bars carry Sky outside of the UK. It's the only way Brits can watch Manchester United fans beat up AC Milan fans without actually going to the match.

What the Euros consider "conservative" we would think of as just to the left of center. What scares me about the direction the Obama administration is taking us is the demonization of conservative groups as "far right extremists" - meaning we disagree with them. In Europe, they have almost eliminated true conservative thought by banning conservative organizations. Over the last 60 years, this has resulted in the destruction of true conservative organization and thus marginalizing freedom.

This is what Ole Blue Lips and his European Wannabe band of nutjobs wants for the rest of us: To eliminate organized Conservative politics by decree and ensure perpetual socialist mediocrity. That very situation has evolved here since the end of the war.

I have been concentrating on all the classics I should have read in college but didn't. Halfway through "The Count of Monte Cristo" now.

lgm,

At the risk of wasting my breath...

We do not vote for taxes since we live in a contrived Democracy and not true Democracy. If so, then the one person - one vote rule would wipe out about every tax there was.

You are also making terrible assumptions as this CNN reporter does. It is apparent she grabbed an interview of someone who would perpetuate her conclusions rather than be a cross-sectional sample of the group.

People who do not want the excessive burdens of overtaxation tend to be fiscally conservative as they work hard for their money and do not wish to see it wasted by an inefficient government. This does not make them Republicans as there are many fiscal conservatives in the ranks of the Democrats. The idea of Democrat vs. Republican comparing directly to liberal vs. conservative is silly and disingenuous.

Unfortunately, those who want to dwell and grab power in D.C. do not want the general public to think this way. Their goal is to obsfucate and misdirect the American populace. This is how they gain and maintain power.

If you wish to spew negative criticisms and talking points from extreme leftists, feel free to do so. There are an equal number of those on the extreme right. The rest of America is going to search for answers that will reduce the burden placed on the citizenry to help the egomaniacs in Washington that wish to be king.

I get a chuckled from some of the trolls who post hear. The guy being interviewed by Susan of CNN talked about Lincoln and was interrupted before he finished. It was Susan of CNN who interjected tax and spend into the interchange.

The way to deal with CNN is to shun them at any future tea parties. If they show up, turn your back on them and refuse to be interviewed. That is an easy price to exacts. Also, if CNN contacts a tea party organizer to set up at a location, indicate to CNN that they are not welcome until a corporate apology is issued on the air --- and, therefore, there will be no special accommodations given. They will, of course, protest that their freedom of the press rights have been violated, but they have no specific right to demand anything where freedom of speech and assembly is guaranteed to every American. Obviously other things can be done, like a flash mob clogging a CNN parking lot, but that is kind of childish and too much like the anti-war nuts.

if this is what passes for a reporter at cnn, it explains a lot. she even had a mandatory hysterical drama moment at the end, when hyperventilating over the anti everything crowd.
