Stop blaming Bush for DHS hit job

By Michelle Malkin  •  April 17, 2009 12:02 PM

Ed Morrissey nails the buck-passers on the DHS rightwing extremism assessment:

First, while the Bush administration might have wanted an assessment of right-wing extremist threats, it didn’t necessarily want one that painted returning veterans and conservative thought on abortion, illegal immigration, and federalism as extremist threats, nor did it want a threat assessment that couldn’t find a threat and had no data on actual, specific groups. Secondly, and most obviously, this report was dated April 7, 2009, almost 3 months after Bush left office.

Just when does the new administration take responsibility for reports they release? 2013? For people who thought Bush was such a dunce, they seem to give him remarkable powers to control government months after he’s retired to Crawford.

Now we see that this wasn’t just left lying around from the Bush administration. In fact, it was such a rush job that Janet Napolitano couldn’t wait to resolve the obvious civil-liberty concerns raised by her own lawyers before shoving it out the door. Napolitano would later have to backtrack on the exact same language flagged by the attorneys by claiming that she didn’t specifically approve the report issued by her office and that she would have changed the language in hindsight. She had the opportunity to fix it before its release, but the completely threadbare report was deemed such a high priority that it went out anyway.

***

Related thought of the day from Michael Graham: Janet Napolitano was right. There were “hatemongers” at the Tea Parties: MSM reporters!

If their is actionable intelligence on a threat–act on it immediately–don’t publicize it. If the threats are general and non-specific–investigate it.

Yep, GWB must be a powerful man. These same people, while calling him a dunce, said he was responsible for 9/11 and therefore were giving him the intelligence and power to manipulate the disaster. One of these days they are going to have to make up their minds just what he is.

Imitation is the finest form of flattery. With many of the Defense and counter-terrorism related initiatives, Obama is following Bush’s lead and keeping the policies. I’m glad he is but it shows how he lied to get in office and how he continues to lie to the American public. Sometimes his lies work out for conservatives but more often than not, they work out for his Marxist agenda.

The liberals see conservatives of any flavor as the threat to be defeated. Forget about enemies from without. The same goes for their faux indignation at water-boarding and the threat of insects being used for interrogation. They should be made to sit and view the videos of beheadings by the Muslims for a few hours straight and then decide which they would rather endure if it were them.

Not that it surprises me, but the MSM heralds Obama’s “Bush look-alike” policies as innovative and brilliant while they continually criticized them when Bush implemented them.

Don’t they see the hypocrisy of their rantings that they feel passes for journalism?

I hope the people who want the news and not journalistic waterboarding will vote with their pocketbook and drive these people out of business. It seems to be happening but not quick enough. I long for the days of no Charles Gibson, Katie Couric, and Brian Williams or anyone who even resembles their brand of “news anchor”.

Contrast it to the report on left-wing extremists which actually listed certain groups to watch out for.

BREAKING GOOD NEWS!! Janet Napolitano is being sued!!
    http://www.thomasmore.org/qry/page.taf
The Thomas More Law Center, a national public interest law firm based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, announced today that it has filed a federal lawsuit against Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano. The lawsuit claims that her Department’s “Rightwing Extremism Policy,” as reflected in the recently publicized Intelligence Assessment,“Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment,” violates the civil liberties of combat veterans as well as American citizens by targeting them for disfavored treatment on account of their political beliefs.
The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan on behalf of nationally syndicated conservative radio talk show host Michael Savage, Gregg Cunningham (President of the pro-life organization Center for Bio-Ethical Reform, Inc (CBR)), and Iraqi War Marine veteran Kevin Murray. The Law Center claims that Napolitano’s Department (DHS) has violated the First and Fifth Amendment Constitutional rights of these three plaintiffs by attempting to chill their free speech, expressive association, and equal protection rights. The lawsuit further claims that the Department of Homeland Security encourages law enforcement officers throughout the nation to target and report citizens to federal officials as suspicious rightwing extremists and potential terrorists because of their political beliefs.

You got it Kid. J-No is an Obama licker and wanted this report out so they could use it against the protestors on tax day. They sped it up to get it out before Apr 15th and in their world, it made perfect sense. Then reality hit when non Obama lickers took a look at it and proved it was a hit piece on political opposition.

Wow. Just as former Atty General Gonzales was run out of town for firing Judges for political reasons (just like Clinton did), J-No should be fired for using Government for political purposes. It should be illegal, and probably is, but at best it is an abuse of power.

Call me crazy — but Obama wants a revolution. What else could explain such insanity as what follows? Long time Atlas readers know I have been covering rallies for the past 5 years. Most of the rallies were by the lunatic left, the leftist Islamic alliance — the anti-war, pro-jihad, Code pink, Cindy Sheehag, anti- Israel, anti-America hate movement.

I have witnessed the most vile hate signage, hostility, violence — and the cops looked the other way. I have witnessed this. Freedom of speech — to which I heartily agree.

    So WTF is this?

Md. Guard Issues Warning to Staff about Local TEA Party Protestors Southern Maryland (hat tip Randall)

CALLAWAY, Md. (April 15, 2009) – A document issued by the Maryland National Guard on April 9 warns full-time Guard personnel to be aware of threats from local citizens protesting income taxes during grass roots events known as TEA (Taxed Enough Already) Parties — one of which was held on Solomons Island March 22. The Guard document, “Planned TEA Party Protests (FPCON Advisory 09-004),” was believed to have first been revealed by a blog called The Jawa Report. A call today to Col. Kohler, Md. National Guard Public Affairs in Baltimore, confirmed the authenticity of the document. The document was officially classified as UNCLASSIFIED/FOR OFFICIAL USE ONLY (U/FOUO). (The document appears in its entirety at the bottom of this article)

The Guard document describes the TEA Party protests as a movement. “Numerous entities have formed recently to express displeasure/anger over recent federal/state government actions: more taxes, increased spending, higher deficits, a surge of borrowing to pay for it all, bailout of the financial institutions,” stated the document under the heading of SITUATION.

The document appears to treat protestors as potential terrorists. The Point of Contact is identified as “Antiterrorism Program Coordinator” and provides a redacted army.mil email address.

The verbiage in the document advises Guard personnel to prepare for the worst. “Commanders are encouraged to update alert rosters and review emergency evacuation plans/rally points. Ensure all facilities have emergency phone lists posted (i.e. FBI, FIRE, POLICE, HOSPITALS, EMS, ETC…). Be aware of and avoid local protests.”

Despite the alarmist warnings in the document, the lead paragraph states, “there is no known direct threat to MDNG facilities and MDNG members, they may become a target of opportunity during plan protest activities throughout Maryland.”

The Guard document follows closely on the heels of a Dept. of Homeland Security document, released on April 7 that profiles American citizens who are concerned about gun rights and the “current economic and political climate” as potential rightwing extremists and domestic terrorists. The document is titled “Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment” and was recently profiled in a Washington Times article.

Yet another Homeland Security document from the Missouri Information Analysis Center (MIAC), leaked to the press in March, profiles vocal supporters of Ron Paul, Bob Barr and Chuck Baldwin as potential domestic terrorists. The so-called MIAC document also cautions police to be aware of citizens carrying a copy of the U.S. Constitution, labeling the document as “political paraphernalia.”

Ron Miller, a prominent Republican from Calvert County who ran against Rep. Steny Hoyer in 2006, and one of the organizers of the TEA Party protests in Maryland, told somd.com that the revelation of the Md. Guard’s document was “kind of timely” given the discovery of the aforementioned Homeland Security document.

Miller said he had received reports from unknown sources that some individuals opposed to the TEA Party message might try to insert themselves into the protests to discredit the initiative. However, nothing happened at any event, to Miller’s knowledge, that supported the reports.

Miller was on the way home from today’s TEA Party protest in Annapolis when we spoke to him. The Annapolis event was specifically mentioned in the Guard document.

Miller said he estimated there were 2500 people at the event he attended. “There were no problems that we could determine,” said Miller. “Given the weather, it went very well.”

Protests were also scheduled today for Baltimore, Bel Air, Cecil County, Frederick, Cumberland, Havre de Grace, Salisbury, Westminster, and Washington, DC.

So, Ole Blue Lips and the butt head brigade convince Big Sis to include this stupidity in her report..

Wow! A. Someone actually read this drivel and B. Whoa Nelly! you mean some people actually think the USA is a force for good? Veterans are generally good people? America isn’t horrible? How could that be? Everyone thinks like a Democrat? Don’t they?

EXACTLY! The Left needs to get its narrative straight – either President Bush was a complete dullard at executive administration and decision making, or an intellectual giant at stealth governance and surreptitious rule.

For the Left, the love/hate relationship with George Bush was always built on the foundation that he was everything they needed him to be.

Need him to be an idiot to make yourself feel intellectually superior? Fine, he’s an idiot.

Need him to be Doctor Evil to justify your paranoia? Then Doctor Evil he is.

So at the same time that George Bush provided them with whatever they needed to make themselves feel better about themselves, he was also the source of great anxiety and hatred — because in the fevered imagination of the Left, Bush really was (is) “capable of anything.”

This report was released for a similar effect. Target and label those protesters before people could really see what they were. If you can get that label out there, you can negate their impact because the sheeples will see them as right wing extremists. And that wasn’t the beginning or the end of their attack. They coupled that with MSM attacks, white rich labeling, Astrotruf (whatever that means) remarks by Pelosi, a speech by Obama to label himself as the tax saviour not the tax demon, etc.

The full court press was on to limit the power of the protestors. And it was all pre-planned and plotted with amazing Alinsky skill and Chicago politics style. Led by….Obama!

Don’t think the administration didn’t have meetings to coordinate their preemptive response to the rising tide of discontent. That is what they do best. Obama has been working that from day one. As Dick Morris said, when grading Obama, if a policy succeeds, Obama gets an A+, if a policy fails, Bush gets an F.

Although there is no known direct threat to MDNG facilities and MDNG members, they may become a target of opportunity during plan protest activities throughout Maryland.

In my twenty-plus years in the United States Army, I never read such garbage in a operational document. The idiot that issued this order should have known better. I’d dearly love to ask him his justification for such an off the wall statement as “they may become a target of opportunity during plan protest activities.”

This moron is one of the few military members I’ve seen who I would worry about obeying an order to fire on law-abiding civilians.

Hope is not a plan; not all change is good. WE are the civilian national security force. National Guard officers should stay out of the political process unless there is a stated, verifiable, or reasonable threat to NG personnel or facilities. The resistance is here; the resistance is now. RESIST!

Personally I think the diagnosis of PTSD is over rated and over done–a lot of people have a jumpy period and then get over it. Bad TV and movies have placed our veterans in a bad light they do not deserve (I HATE Rambo). More than just a few of these clowns running around in BDUs have never seen combat or even been in service.

But this country, at least a large part of it, has been denigrating our service people and veterans for 40 years now.

VETERANS DISARMAMENT ACT TO BAR VETS FROM OWNING GUNS

Hundreds of thousands of veterans — from Vietnam through Operation Iraqi Freedom — are at risk of being banned from buying firearms if legislation that is pending in Congress gets enacted.

How? The Veterans Disarmament Act — which has already passed the House — would place any veteran who has ever been diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) on the federal gun ban list.

This is exactly what President Bill Clinton did over seven years ago when his administration illegitimately added some 83,000 veterans into the National Criminal Information System (NICS system) — prohibiting them from purchasing firearms, simply because of afflictions like PTSD.

The proposed ban is actually broader. Anyone who is diagnosed as being a tiny danger to himself or others would have his gun rights taken away … forever. It is section 102(b)(1)(C)(iv) in HR 2640 that provides for dumping raw medical records into the system. Those names — like the 83,000 records mentioned above — will then, by law, serve as the basis for gun banning.

No wonder the Military Order of the Purple Heart is opposed to this legislation.

The House bill, HR 2640, is being sponsored by one of the most flaming anti-Second Amendment Representatives in Congress: Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY). Another liberal anti-gunner, Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT), is sponsoring the bill in the Senate.

Proponents of the bill say that helpful amendments have been made so that any veteran who gets his name on the NICS list can seek an expungement.

But whenever you talk about expunging names from the Brady NICS system, you’re talking about a procedure that has always been a long shot. Right now, there are NO EXPUNGEMENTS of law-abiding Americans’ names that are taking place under federal level. Why? Because the expungement process which already exists has been blocked for over a decade by a “funds cut-off” engineered by another anti-gunner, Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY).

So how will this bill make things even worse? Well, two legal terms are radically redefined in the Veterans Disarmament Act to carry out this vicious attack on veterans’ gun rights.

One term relates to who is classified a “mental defective.” Forty years ago that term meant one was adjudicated “not guilty” in a court of law by reason of insanity. But under the Veterans Disarmament Act, “mental defective” has been stretched to include anyone whom a psychiatrist determines might be a tiny danger to self or others.

The second term is “adjudicate.” In the past, one could only lose one’s gun rights through an adjudication by a judge, magistrate or court — meaning conviction after a trial. Adjudication could only occur in a court with all the protections of due process, including the right to face one’s accuser. Now, adjudication in HR 2640 would include a finding by “a court, commission, committee or other authorized person” (namely, a psychiatrist).

Forget the fact that people with PTSD have the same violent crime rate as the rest of us. Vietnam vets with PTSD have had careers and obtained permits to carry firearms concealed. It will now be enough for a psychiatric diagnosis (a “determination” in the language of the bill) to get a veteran barred for life from owning guns.

Be firm, be vigilant, stay free. Beware of posting of your medical records on line–aware and afraid to the point of action.

But, what is really disturbing and worrisome is that we have too few legitimate journalists to spread the truth about this report so that all those swing voters would realize just who it is they put in the White House and Congress. I suspect many of them (still?) have no idea this is what they were voting for.
