Saturday night open thread
I’m in Chicago tonight for the “Sammies” awards — presented by the Sam Adams Alliance. They do fabulous work on open government, transparency and blogivism. Full list of award winners here. Congrats to all!

I went out this morning to a legislative forum held by both by my state senator and representative as well as later an ice cream meet and greet with a Senatorial candidate. Neither was well attended, and liberals outnumbered conservatives at the forum (in KS). We gripe about what is going on in this country, but until we step up and take an active role in our government everyday at the local, state, and federal level nothing is going to change.
I hear you husker but will warn you about being too judgmental. Conservatives don’t want government to be the be all and end all of our lives. To get all excited about government meet and greats is contrary to our values. I am spending time with my wife and daughters today. IF there was such a political gathering around my area today I’d not be attending. Basically you are expecting people to go to things to tell the folks at those “things” to stop having those “things”.
I hope that makes sense.
Wondering why there is almost no mention of Rosa Brooks being appointed to be the adviser of Undersecretary of Defense Michele Flournoy. Rosa Brooks is an avowed and unrepentant far lefty. Google her and her mother, Barbara Ehrenreich, a co-chair of “Democratic Socialist of America”.
Just starting on a homework assignment due today (online). I’m the queen of procrastination.
I might write and email to the Florida GOP thanking them for pushing a bill restricting groups like ACORN
Congratulations for being selected as an award presenter. Looking forward to seeing some of the video.
I’m still in Orlando working, visiting with family. Flying home tomorrow. Then off to Cinci and Louisville.
I think one of the good things about tea parties is that they provide an event where conservatives can contribute to the political process, even though admittedly it is against our nature to be consumed with political involvement. We have to find a compromise, something that works for us! Giving up in despair is not an option.
I thought I would share the report from the organizers of the Everett, WA tea-party:
“Thanks everyone so much for a Great turnout. . . . the weather was great, the speakers were captivating and all in all it was a tremendous success for a bunch of “Right Wing Extremist” and a movement in its infancy.
Our group donated nearly 300 pounds of food to the Volunteers of America of Western Washington for “one of there largest donations in quite a while” and over 100 pounds of Pet food that was gratefully accepted at the Animal Shelter. The local police commented that they were pleasantly suprised by our behavior and as I expected, clean up was unneccessary. Thank You.
[Editor's note: my question is what on earth did they expect or were told? "...pleasantly surprised by our behavior" indeed. Maybe we need to live up to our reputation.]
. . . We were a gathering of vastly different backgrounds, ideologies and agendas but we were all there for the same reason, The Love of Country. May we remain United as a force, despite what differences we may have, to aid our sickened Nation. For the Good of All.”
May the Force remain with us.
I am going to exercise my God-given right to pursuit of happiness with a healthy helping of good, old-fashioned violence, namely UFC. And, speaking of Sam Adams, I shall be appropriately pouring my own recently brewed libations, an amber ale that is oh, so smooth.
I won’t be high-fiving some leftist, that’s for sure.
Had a great time at the Atlanta Tea Party. Was in the center section in great view of the various creative signs. We were packed tighter than sardines in a can.

We keep wanting to vote out the rinos and the stupids but we don’t ever talk about who we are gonna vote IN.
Where is the farm team?
Who is the farm team?

I’ve given up on M. Steele. Didn’t hear a peep from him about the Tea Parties.

Saw where Senator Enzi is sponsoring the Internet Sales Tax bill.
I guess he will not get the award for 2009.
WASHINGTON. – U.S. Senator Mike Enzi, R-Wyo., exercised fiscal responsibility in 2008 according to a report card issued by the National Taxpayers Union. The report gauged lawmakers’ commitment to reduce spending, taxes, debt and regulation and ranked Enzi at the top of Congress with an ‘A’ grade.

Spending time with my wife and our newborn son.
Also, putting the finishing touches on [SHAMELESS PLUG ALERT!] a new website, a parody of Obama’s Recovery.gov, called Robbery.us.com.
I am at home … planning on a quiet evening around the pool with some good friends, some grilled steaks and a nice bottle of wine (or 2 or 3) …
To be fair to Michael Steele, he did comment on the tea parties (favorably) on Greta’s show on FOX on April 15.
I’m spring cleaning. Hate to get started, but once on a roll, am very pleased with the results!
This is interesting

Congrats! The baby is so sweet
My youngest just turned 3 last Tuesday.
atheling … also Steele had asked to speak at one of the tea parties … I think it was in either New York or Chicago but not sure … and was told no by the organizers …
DesertLvr, it was Chicago that turned down Steele. He was politely told that it was their turn to listen.
MarcoPolo … thanks … I thought that was the one … just knew it was one of the bigger cities …
Did any of you Tea Party attendees see anything about HR 1207? I got handed some literature about it so I came home and looked it up. It is pretty short – it basically would require Congress to audit the Federal Reserve so we can get a handle on where our money is going. It currently has more than 50 sponsors from both sides of the aisle, but my Rep isn’t on it.
I’ll probably call his office about it, but that rarely does any good.
Is anybody else here familiar with it? Is there a downside to this that I am missing?
Final tally on San Antonio Tea Party was 20,000. Aerial photos here.
My son said… we had an attack…. I can’t say where or when….so when all of you sleep tonight…. my son now fights. Those who can no longer fight we thank you, Michelle. God Bless you.
curiozities, you gotta be proud dad, mom, congrates to you both having such a fine looking young son. May you be blessed with many years of happiness and success.
Not to worry, we shall over come this hedonist acting as president and his Marxist gang of felons.
curiozities, great looking website, good job, I’ll be looking in.
Thank you, inspired, and happy b-day to your youngest.
MNUSMC, this veteran salutes you and your son. Thanks to both of you and God Bless.
Putting him and his patriots in arms on our prayer chain now.
could your Rep. possibly be a democrap? If so I understand completely, I’m not being represented by 2 (d) senators and a (d) Rep. calling and emailing is like hitting yourself in the head with a hammer. Suppose to feel good when you stop…old corny joke my dad told me.
rightisright, thanks for the good wishes and website look. I’m still in shock that my son was in debt about $27,000 before he could even draw his first breath. That was one of my inspirations for Robbery.us.com.
While out mowing the grass, I pondered the following:
1. After all of these Tea Parties, will “conservatives” actually vote on principle in the next elections vice sheepishly voting for anyone with an “R” next to his/her name?
2. When will “conservatives”, especially Christians, pull their kids out of Caesar’s school system?
3. When will the local church abandon its heretical doctrine of decisionism (e.g. “repeat this little prayer after me and you’re good” vs. the doctrines of sanctification and regeneration)?
Here, in Virginia, we aren’t being represented either. I have a representative and 2 senators more interested in themselves and their party than looking out for us and the future of this country.
MNUSMCDavid
My best to you, your son and the rest of your family … My son (Marine) and daughter (Navy) are both stateside for the time being …
Semper Fi
Congratulations curiozities, it was the biggest day of my life to be sure-it changes everything and except for a few years of high school and the car and your tools and the garage/spaceship/fort-for the better.
Thank you Michelle, for all you do in keeping us posted, making us aware of what’s going on in our world. You must have passed Evelyn Wood’s speed reading with A+’s as much reading and typing you have to be doing.
A huge thank you to all the military people past and present that contribute to this site for keeping us safe from our enemies such as our new Imposter, excuse me our new President. Thank you one and all.
On this date,18 APRIL. I finally recieved my 1099r from the finance and accounting service for military retirees.(The thanks I get for 23 years of service) Obama will have to wait a little longer for my tax dollars to pay for his socialist agenda and UN dues.
I’m headed out to set trot lines on Lake Sardis tonight.
Tomorrow, I’ll feel like catfish tonight, like catfish tonight, ….
Luv ya, Michelle~! have a good weekend!
AD&D game here – 1st edition lives!!
Looking for the thread on the Palin Movie. Would like to see if any reviews were added. Curiously, MM does not have a Palin file in the archives.
Does anyone know where the thread is where MM mentioned the movie done on Gov Palin?
A very curious story about Janet Napolitano from the wayback machine.
Seems there are certain people she has zero interest in prosecuting.
I’ve been engaging in capitalism today, with fine results.
It’s the weekend for the Botanic Gardens Plant Sale and my family’s nursery was invited to be a vendor. This year is even better than last year.
Yes, I was handed a flyer about that at the Memphis Tea Party. I haven’t really had time to look at it closely. This has been a week of total craziness for me, but from what I read on the flyer, it sounds like a interesting prospect.
MNUSMCDavid, may God be with your son and all his fellow soldiers tonight. I’ll say an extra prayer.
Elected officials are truly shameless. What haven’t they taxed yet? If they spent as much time and effort in trying to figure out what spending to eliminate, rather than on how to screw the American people even more, maybe there would be hope (for some of them.)
I would ask Enzi, and cohorts, why they think people buy over the internet in the first place? Speaking for myself, when I can find an item cheaper, including shipping charges, with no sales tax added, I buy it online if I need it.
Congress has done a good job destroying many facets of our economy already, and now they want to destroy online ‘niche’ businesses. Brilliant!
I would like to see a law enacted that states, unequivocally, that anyone seeking to run for office, who is currently serving as an elected official, MUST resign from office prior to any campaigning, or fund raising activity.
In addition, to ensure quality representation, should said individual so decide to campaign, all monies received in wages and benefits during the current term of office MUST be returned to the applicable treasury.
Congratulations, Daddy! He’s a ruggedly handsome young man.
As my uncle says, he must have gotten his good looks from his Dad, because his Mom still has hers!
MNUSMCDavid, I will say a prayer for your son and sleep well tonight knowing that I am have the greatest protector in the world keeping me safe; a U.S. Marine and his individual weapon.
Semper Fi from an over the hill 11B.
The Tea Party in Fort Wayne, IN went exceeding well today. Great weather, good local speakers and a stirring speech by Alan Keyes got the crowd of about 2,000 rocking!
Thanks, AZ Neanderthal and tre. tre, my wife got a good laugh out of your uncle’s saying (so did I for that matter)
Packing luggage to take my hubby and kids to Disney for 10 days.
I am certainly enjoying the Indians’ dismantling of the Yankees. I can’t stand those guys.
Knock ‘em dead, Michelle!
I have updated my blog with some new creations for Obama/Chavez and of course Obama at Georgetown:
http://thelcabroadside.wordpress.com/
Take a look and share with your friends:) Enjoy the weekend everyone!
Don’t worry – the Chinese will have installment payment plans for him.
Ok, ok, sorry – he’s very cute!
I’m in Korea working, sadly was unable to attend the Tea Party in San Antonio. And I have a bad cold, so that sucks too.
I am watching the Nascar race on TV. It is in Phoenix tonite, I loved living in Phoenix.
Today, I got a fund raising letter in the mail from the SENATE republicans. I can’t wait to open it up, and send it back to them with a big fat ZERO sum in the envelope and a long letter telling them the “what for” about their decision to support Specter in 2010. I am going to tell them that the money I would have sent to them is going to Spectoer’s opponent in the primary. AND I don’t even live in PA. I just hope they have a postage paid envelope inside, so it doesn’t even cost me 42 cents to send the package back to them. Dirtbags.
Ah, grasshopper… you have so much to learn – I still have to do my taxes.
From last year….
(no seriously, its been sitting in an envelope from my accountant here on my counter since September. I havent even sent this years to the accountant yet. If the IRS will please audit me, I’ll be rich!! Two kids in college and I cant even put a stamp on an envelope, even though I ve already been to the Post Office today
)
But I have to do all my finances tonight because tomorrow is going to be an awesome snowboarding day here in Colorado.
*Congrats Curiozities; He’s a cutie; Our oldest son was born 3/19, but that was 29 years ago; He turned out okay, he’s a producer.
*MNUSMCDavid:I shall lift your son up in my thoughts and prayers; He is among the best and will prevail.
*After a very busy Saturday, I plan to hide the honey do list for Sunday and take a break with Mark Levin’s new book.
What? This one?
Thanks, AlohaGuy and bjc.
RabbidSquirrel: are you looking for a job with the Anointed One? Something in Treasury?
I don’t watch TV, so I know I’m getting this a bit late from Mom… If you haven’t heard Susan Boyle sing, please check out her Britain’s Got Talent performance. You certainly won’t regret it.
Just saw her on YouTube this afternoon. Wow! While the last line of her performance was “Now life has killed the dream I dreamed“, I think her dreams are about to come true. She helped remind people that female singers don’t have to dress like Lady GaGa to be successful.
Quite the opposite. Im one of those that bribes the government through interest free loans, so they will leave me alone.
I use the Treasury Department as a one of my rainy-day diversified savings accounts because I know China is good for it.
Random Thoughts: I was deep into an Anonymous User Comments section on WaPo and realized a couple of things:
1) I had never really looked at the photos that were taken at the original Boston Tea Party. Who knew that tea used to be packed into boxes instead of little paper or nylon pouches. (who has THAT job anyway?)
2) I have never seen a Tea Tree or a Chocolate Tree or a Vanilla Tree. Hmmm, I must get out more and become cosmopolitan.
Me too! BUt they actually did send a letter looking for my ‘07 tax return a couple of weeks ago. I did ‘06 and got them all excited, I guess.
(LMAO) I just got mine today!! (note comment about going to post office, I only go about once a month)
I still have to resubmit my ‘05 and ‘06 to reclaim my overpayments during my two years of divorce proceedings. I found out divorce lawyers of more afraid of the Feds than a judge – so that is the one case that the IRS is better than a swiss bank account.
Correction: I found out divorce lawyers
ofare more afraid of the Feds than a judgeI am a member of the Constitution Party and will be working to elect fine leaders from the ground up. Principle first.
My three children will never see the inside of a public school. We are a new homeschool family. My oldest will be in K this fall.
I am attending a Presbyterian Church, am a post-millenist and a Christian reconstructionist. I do not believe in defeastist premillenism (essentially escapism). Our God reigns and is in complete control. I will not abandon society but will fight the good fight until I draw my last breath.
That’s post-millenialist and defeatist. I cannot type tonight!
Point to ponder:
Why did the chicken cross the road?
He didnt… it was all a dream
Iowahawk has a new one up.
The man is pure genius. Some enterprising conservative film makers really need to work with him and get his stuff on YouTube, or the Boobtube, or even the big screen.
Wow, I thought I was the only one behind on taxes. My 07 return has yet to be compiled. They owe me money. Same about 08. But since the nascar race was earlier tonite, I have no excuse for procrastination. This time, I have 7 months on an Excel spreadsheet, so I just have to find the 07 stuff on paper between january and May. After that, I can probably finish the 08 lickety split since that is on the spreadsheet. I never did get quicken setup. My spreadsheet works dandy.
I cannot believe at this late hour I might be the first one to post that I – this out of shape gal – participated in the Pat Tillman Run/Walk of Honor in Tempe this morning… a 4.2 mile run/walk… God Bless Pat and every military person who gave their life and kept (and continue to keep) us safe on our home land… if someone posted earlier and I breezed right by their comment, I apologize… what a great day… and Pat’s ASU college coach, Bruce Snyder, lost his battle with skin cancer on Monday… an emotional and uplifting day…puts it in the correct perspective, if you ask me… GOD BLESS AMERICA
gennyv999
For those unfamiliar with Pat’s Run they can look at the website here …
Honoring Pat Tillman
There were over 20000 people taking part this year. Also, there will be another Pat’s Run next weekend (4/25) in Pat’s hometown of San Jose, CA.
I was unable to take part this year but have made the run in the past. It is an awesome event.
I feel extra pride every time I go to a Cardinal’s game when I pass the statue of Pat as I walk across Pat Tillman Freedom Plaza to enter the stadium.
I found this interesting article on the FoxNEWS website:U.N. Official: Obama’s Decision Not to Prosecute Torture Violates International Law
I guess some CIA guys might as well start packing for jail.
I found this quote “interesting”:
Mac,
I am watching as we type this is bone chilling how deep the political nature of obambi admin is on the CIA and this whole “torture” charade I hope the full interview is up on vid shortly.
There is very little I can say that wont get me booted this is ABJECT INSANITY!!!!!
and we thought gorelicks wall was bad?
LAWDYYY
oh boy grahamnesty and mcowskilless trying to pretend there are American.
well stick to the first interview not these two senate tards
…watching lisping Lindsey on Fox News Sunday…god, he makes me gag
Iggy,
he has a total disconnect of reality!!
was there really any diff tween what him and commmielibhack mccowskilless said? ( yes that is rhetorical
I guess; PBHO is letting Daniel Ortega of Nicaragua, Chavez of Venezuela and the other tin pan dictators of Latin America run down America as he sits there-Summit of the Americas. Of course PBHO has transnationalism-touting Yale Law School Dean Harold Koh spouting how America needs to be subject to European law–sharia comes later I guess. Obama crawls like a whipped dog-dragging us with him- in front of one murdering dictator after another and WE talk of compensating the victims.
As I said earlier–for the current emergency I am flying the Gadsden Flag.
No good people Resistance is NOT futile; for honest folk it is obligatory.
—-
But I am relieved that RabbidSquirrel is NOT going to work for Little Timmy Geitner-that is a relief
no, bansharia, no dif, IMO
And why does Fox News not have somebody to represent the conservative point of view? I like Chris Wallace — he is not on our side…he is down the middle — but they have loved Graham when he is despised by the majority of the party and his Team McCain couldn’t elect a county sheriff. McCain, too, gets treated like he is still an important voice and gets airtime that should go to an actual conservative. Disgusting.
for my follow up actions from tea party:
1. going to a gun rights rally on tuesday Harrisburg PA
2. going to an end the fed rally saturday Philly PA
3. going to a support the troops rally
on may 2nd Harrisburg PA
1 and 3 I have done b4 and all on my dime. Anyway for many who have asked what they can do now: poke around there are many active people in your area or close enuff to drive SHOW UP as often as you can. They may not be sponsored by groups you agree 100% with but show up for whatever reason YOU want I encourage all to what the feel in their heart and gut is important dont let anyone define that for you.
whoops DONT agree with 100% sorry dang I even previewed that!! lol DOINK
oph geeze now I screwed up my fix that wasnt needed to begin with am going to pick weeds sigh
rough night bansharia????
Iggy,
totally agree as if that nit is reperesentative of us!
off to pick some weeds or at least stare them down and dump stuff on them
oh barfffff rahnm the selfloathing Jew is on stephanie’s show
It’s now Sunday morn, so I guess I’m a little late to this thread.
I’ll toss out a request, or perhaps it is more of an idea.
I’m hoping to find an easy to use, hopefully single source, resource for checking voting records at both state and federal levels. One issue I have is the convoluted, completely misleading nature of bill titles. Often the content is exactly opposite of what the title suggests. While I am not suggesting a “filtered” site, it sure would be nice to have a set of links that allows checking up both on voting records and a “press 1 for english” button on the content of legislation. As has been suggested over and over on this and many other blogs, we need true leadership, whether that is from folks already in government or new candidates. A set of links that TELL THE TRUTH would be much welcomed and would certainly help me make more informed decisions. Am I asking too much?
Good man.
Second Amendment March is a national event to take place in April, 2010 in Washington,
I’ll bring the tea–I guess I can’t bring my sidearms to FedzillaCity so I’ll have to make adjustments.
JusDreamin
This is a good source
American Conservative Union
Thanks A.N., good resource. Would be nice to have a drill down, perhaps it’s there I just need to study more closely.
Keep em coming!
AZ,
psst I am a female
Just,
What you are asking for is too subjective. I understand what at least I think are you intentions. This may sound silly but seems to me if you go to a group that you totally disagree with anyone they endorse would be as valuable as the kind of site you are looking for
LOL, good tip Ban. I suppose my real goal here is to be able to make informed decisions. The whole “R” vs “D” thing is next to useless to me now. I’t comes from my being “P” for PISSED
What can I plug here from my blogs this time:
Will Obama deny aid to Israel?
Geoff Johns does some more unpleasant and definitely questionable things with the Flash.
