The Janeane Garofalo of academia

By Michelle Malkin  •  April 19, 2009 10:09 AM

It’s one thing for Hollywood twit Janeane Garofalo to smear the Tea Party movement as RAAAAACIST. We expect ignorant celebrities to be ignorant. But when newspapers phone up “experts” in academia to provide commentary and analysis on social and political trends, it would be nice if they based their assessments on reality, wouldn’t it?

In the Christian Science Monitor today, one professor of emeritus plays the Janeane Garofalo of academia:

Jeffrey Kimball, a professor emeritus of history at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, says the protesters seemed to represent the most extreme adherents of American conservatism, hardly representative of the average American.

“We may have just seen the whole movement” at these protests, says Mr. Kimball. “I don’t see it as a groundswell, but a manifestation by those people who form the core of … the extreme right reacting both to the condition of our time and President Obama – he’s black and he’s liberal.

Where’s my cluebat?

California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger booed at Sacramento Tea Party: White and Republican.

California GOP chairman Ron Nehring booed at Sacramento Tea Party: White and Republican.

Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman, Sens. Orrin Hatch, and Bob Bennett all booed at Salt Lake City Tea Party: White and Republican.

Rep. Gresham Barrett booed at Greenville SC Tea Party: White and Republican.

Reality doesn’t fit Hollywood’s narrative — or left-wing academia’s. Must be lovely to live life immunized from the truth.

And that has happened by design; see “Bill Ayers, PhD in Education”.

There are still “points of light” that resist that trend, though.

I get what u mean about standing. But perhaps we need to move out of the box that jurisprudence puts around the protected class of government leaders.

The precedents are being laid as we speak with all this war crime crap.

What is to stop us from having show trials and tribunals of our own…..to illuminate the issues and make the dysfunction of our leaders glaringly public.

We could stage these trials and put them on youtube as the hottest new reality show that cable or MSM doesnt carry….yet.

Truth is stranger than fiction. We may not have standing in rigged courts, but we are still “We The People.”

Back during the buildup to the American Revolution the world looked at the Founders as anything but patriotic. Yet, it was the written and spoken word, grounded in reason and a “spirit” of truth, backed by sound strategic action, which brought down the British Empire and forced them to negotiate a truce— and eventually their own world around empire.

I completely understand your apprehension re the things I mention as the three things waiting to befall the middle class here in the USA. The writing has been on the wall since Gulf War 1.

I have never let conspiracy lunatics direct my thinking. However, they and folks like me, are looking at the same set of facts— so there is bound to be overlap.

But it doesn’t necessarily mean the kind of chaos that destroys civilization as we know it— if we are prepared and not caught in a pinch that would leave us DEPENDENT on the government for food.

It will mean the end of liberal fascism for they will not have a tax base to extort power from. Decentralizing the wealth of the middle class is exactly what preparation will do. Confiscations of land, precious metals, medical supplies, food caches, weapons….. none of that happens if it cant be found.

Indians of the Americas have survived in some ways untouched by the Government’s reach. We’ve been living under the radar for years. The Government is doomed to eat itself. It can no longer protect its people and it is about to devour our private property on philosophical grounds their Messiah is pledged to his benefactors to uphold (abolishing private property— the lynchpin of the enlightened way of governing human populations). That spells the end of the Government- not America.

I appreciate the refined thinking you offer on “standing”. It challenged me to rethink what can be done. And will be done.

The more the government tries to control us, it creates the opposite effect….tis the nature of paradox. Barry Soetoro is an ignorant sycophant but as dangerous as a child wielding a revolver with the safety off.

    Good day, Friend.

Bear, that is a GREAT idea!!!

We really don’t have any forum in the “real” courts, but we can and should provide an effective “court of public opinion”.

Agitprop is not the sole province of our enemies, and I have never had a problem adopting and adapting what works…

    quite the opposite.

I think adherence to what has been proven NOT to work is simply stupid.

I appreciate your thoughtfulness, and I pray you are not totally correct in your predictions.

If you will forgive a slightly smarmy aside… I know of no revolver that has a “safety”. That’s why I only carried auto-loaders when I had kids in the house. I have several wheel guns, but I still rely on my autos. The wheel guns were my father’s, and include two early post-war SAA Colts, and a first-run .44 mag Ruger sent to him by the factory when he was writing a book on handguns.

I don’t post often because of my strong conservative thoughts are many times criticized or ridiculed by my fellow conservatives that do not share my particular strong views. Nobody likes to be belittled for what he thinks, believes, or enunciates. Think about it conservatives. We are always on the defensive. Liberals have specific talking points and they are indoctrinated into repeating these points over and over again until they themselves believe them, the liberal media in this country has propagandized and parroted liberal talking points without regards to their validity, and our educational system has utterly failed to teach the Constitutional principal and has adopted the liberal rhetoric. So we find ourselves defending our way of life from not only from liberals but also defending ourselves to our fellow conservatives. You know there are always going to be people that don’t like blacks, homosexuals, Catholics, protestants, Jews, bankers, skinheads, Hispanics, Bible believers, atheists, and I could spend the rest of the bandwidth with people, religions, ethnicity, ethics, and morals we disagree with. Our Constitutions and Bill of Rights deals with most of those problem situations. In my opinion, our country needs to go back to our Constitutional roots and that will solve the majority of the problems facing this nation. Loose the unconstitutional laws, give the states and local government the sovereignty that are required by the constitution, and get the oath breakers out of governmental positions. I believe we have a started a way back to legitimate government. It is evident in the grassroots tea party movement, the evidence of the gun and ammunition resurgence, the evidence of less attention to liberal media and a surge in conservative talk radio and conservative TV, and the defensiveness of the liberals. Would I like to see an armed civil war, NO. We can “fight” by letters, faxes, speeches, protests, town hall meetings, getting involved, show trials, and anything else to stop the liberal steam roller. But there are people, just as in the 1700’s that are ready to do the “shot heard round the world”. I have asked myself, should that happen what would I do? I have made my decision, have you?

But, perhaps you will agree, there are alternatives that we have never employed.

    I suggest a non-violent tax boycott.

I can provide very clearly reasoned arguments for it, just as there are those who would oppose it.

The whole idea of civil disobedience was not available to our Founders.

I submit it is a powerful tool, an eminently moral tool, and that it has been employed my minority movements throughout American history, to good effect.

I submit it is worth trying. Only then would any more desperate means be remotely justified.

I have had this experience; I have asked rooms full of patriotic men…men who have served their country in time of war…if they would die for the principles we hold dear. To a man (and woman), they have raised their hands YES!

I have then asked them if they would go to prison for their country. That has been a question that many of them never pondered before, and it gave them pause.

    Ponder it now, yourselves.

The problem with a tax revolt is that those who participate have much to lose and so the participation will be minimal. You may choose not to pay your taxes but the government will simply impound your bank account, your house, your paycheck and ultimately, they will haul your butt in jail.

Furthermore, the government ranks organized efforts to persuade others to not pay their taxes right up their with armed insurrection and counterfeiting. They are direct challenges to the sovereignty of the government as the legally elected representatives of the people.

What we are currently doing, as Lumberman eloquently describes, is working. We are winning and we are doing it within our constitutional rights.

At some point, the government may very well negate its legitimacy by canceling elections or imposing martial laws in peacetime aimed at preventing us from exercising our rights to protest. At that point, I would be a resister. If the government were to introduce guns into the negotiation, we would have no alternative than fight for our freedom.

The constitution is very clear that we have God-given rights that governments cannot take away from us and one of those God-given rights is to dispose of any government that no longer defends our rights.

I just don’t see it coming to that. We’ve come pretty far with just regular people taking time off from work to have what amounted to a national picnic last Wednesday. The over-the-top reactions by the MSM gained us many new friends. The establishment is already desperate and they are too undermanned. To counter with a grassroots response. Well, first, in that case we are doomed. If that is the depth of patriotism in America…the measure of our yearning for liberty, we are lost.

Second, who says? How do you know how popularly it will be supported? I know this; it fails per force if it is never tried.

but the government will simply impound your bank account, your house, your paycheck and ultimately, they will haul your butt in jail.

And THERE is the moral demonstration.

To whom does my paycheck belong? And if, as a manifestation of my disapproval of my government…my exercise of MY sovereignty as a free citizen…I have come to the extremity of defying them, what does that tell them, and my fellow citizens?

And I can tell you this as a trial attorney…due process would make it impossible for the government to respond to this efficiently if popularly supported. NOR WOULD IT TAKE LONG FOR THEM TO GET THE MESSAGE.

Furthermore, the government ranks organized efforts to persuade others to not pay their taxes right up their with armed insurrection and counterfeiting.

Forgive me, but where did you get THAT BS?!?! They do not. Check the criminal code. I’m doing it now, and I am not breaking any law.

They are direct challenges to the sovereignty of the government as the legally elected representatives of the people.

YES…!!! And it would WORK precisely because of that, if popularly supported.

The constitution is very clear that we have God-given rights that governments cannot take away from us and one of those God-given rights is to dispose of any government that no longer defends our rights.

And they are doing it every day…and we are letting them.

I say it is time to stop that process.

It can’t be done by voting and going to rallies, writing letters to people who we send to Washington, working for their election, etc.

Decades of experience have shown me that.

The problems are systemic. They are in the gears of the machine.

We have to starve the beast.

Don’t be afraid. Give it place in your thinking.

    3. If nobody is paying attention to that, then we go to a full boycott.

That is incremental, rational, and it exposes nobody to MUCH (if any) real risk in steps 1 and 2. That should tell us if government is listening to us.

Okay you two…consider the “Texas Option….”

    THE COUNTRY of TEXAS

In case things get a little tough during the next few months we Texans have a plan…

Maybe you don’t know it, but Texas is the only state with a legal right to secede from the Union . (Reference the Texas-American Annexation Treaty of 1848.)

We Texans love all y’all Americans, but we’ll probably have to take action since Barack Obama won the election and is now the President of the U.S.A.

    We’ll miss ya’ll though.

    Here is what can happen:

    1. Barack Hussein Obama, after becoming the President of the United States , begins to try and create a socialist country, then Texas announces that it is going to secede from the Union.

    2. George W. Bush becomes the President of the Republic of Texas. You might not think that he talks too pretty, but we haven’t had another terrorist attack and the economy was fine until the effects of the Democrats lowering the qualifications for home loans came to roost.

So what does Texas have to do to survive as a Republic?

    1. NASA is just south of Houston, Texas. We will control the space industry.

    2. We refine over 85% of the gasoline in the United States .

    3. Defense Industry–we have over 65% of it. The term “Don’t mess with Texas,” will take on a whole new meaning.

    4. Oil – we can supply all the oil that the Republic of Texas will need for the next 300 years. What will the other states do? Gee, we don’t know. Why not ask Obama?

    5. Natural Gas – again, we have all we need and it’s too bad about those Northern States. John K erry and Al Gore will just have to figure out a way to keep them warm…

    6. Computer Industry – we lead the nation in producing computer chips and communications equipment – small companies like Texas Instruments, Dell Computer, EDS, Raytheon, National Semiconductor, Motorola, Intel, AMD, Atmel, Applied Materials, Ball Misconduct, Dallas Semiconductor, Nortel, Alcatel, etc. The list goes on and on.

    7. Medical Care – We have the research centers for cancer research, the best burn centers and the top trauma units in the world, as well as other large health centers. The Houston Medical Center alone employs over 65,000 people.

    8. We have enough colleges to keep educating and making smarter citizens: University of Texas , Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Texas Christian, Rice, SMU, University of Dallas , University of Houston , Baylor, UNT ( University of North Texas ), Texas Women’s University, etc. Ivy grows better in the South anyway.

    9. We have an intelligent and energetic work force and it isn’t restricted by a bunch of unions. Here in Texas , we are a Right to Work State and, therefore, it’s every man and woman for themselves. We just go out and get the job done. And if we don ‘ t like the way one company operates, we get a job somewhere else.

    10. We have essential control of the paper, plastics, and insurance industries, etc.

    11. In case of a foreign invasion, we have the Texas National Guard, the Texas Air National Guard, and several military bases. We don’t have an Army, but since everybody down here has at least six rifles and a pile of ammo, we can raise an Army in 24 hours if we need one. If the situation really gets bad, we can always call the Department of Public Safety and ask them to send over the Texas Rangers.

12 We are totally self-sufficient in beef, poultry, hogs, and several types of grain, fruit and vegetables, and let’s not forget seafood from the Gulf. Also, everybody down here knows how to cook ‘em so that they taste good. We don’t need any food.

    13. Three of the ten largest cities in the United States , and twenty-three of the 100 largest cities in the United States are located in Texas . And Texas also has more land than California , New York , New Jersey , Connecticut , Delaware , Hawaii , Massachusetts , Maryland , Rhode Island , and Vermont combined.

    14. Trade: Three of the ten largest ports in the United States are located in Texas.

    15. We also manufacture cars down here, but we don’t need to. You see, nothing rusts in Texas so our vehicles stay beautiful and run well for decades.

This just names a few of the items that will keep the Republic of Texas in good shape. There isn’t a thing out there that we need and don’t have.

Now to the rest of you folks in the United States under President Obama: Since you won’ t have the refineries to get gas for your cars, only President Obama will be able to drive around in his big 9 mpg SUV. The rest of the United States will have to walk or ride bikes.

You won’ t have any TV as the Space Center in Houston will cut off satellite communications.

You won’ t have any natural gas to heat your homes, but since Mr. Obama has predicted global warming, you won’ t need the gas as long as you survive the 2000 years it will take to get enough heat out of Global Warming.

In other words, the rest of ya’ll in the USA are screwed!

    Signed, The People of Texas

P.S. This is not a threatening letter – just a note to give you something to think about!
Sleep well tonight ’cause the eyes of Texas are on YOU!!

The agreement adding Texas to the Union has no wording granting the state a right to secede. No state has that right. What was granted was the right to break up into four further states.

The Mexican-American War was pursued by pro-slavers interests whose intent was to greatly expand their influence in the US by adding Texas and splitting up into ten(?) states and thus winning forever the struggle for slavery rights. Limiting them to four kept the balance. Never mattered. Texas seceded during the Civil War and was on the losing side.

I don’t know if I got that perfect but I’m very sure Texas has no right to secede. The US Constitution applies to Texas exactly the same way it applies to every other state. Secession is an act of war.

Texas was a republic. It entered the Union with that status, accepting statehood. That made it unique, arguably with the exception of Hawaii.

We have no fireants, no big mosquito problem, no poison snakes, no poison spiders, chiggers, or ticks, no tornadoes, no hurricanes, not a lot of snow in winter, no blizzards, no humidity, no thunderstorms, very few floods, and only the occasional earthquake.

That we are…in fact…just around the corner from total victory.

What one of those things can Ms. Grrr-buffalo not do…???

and, in so doing, effectively cancel out what you or I or PP do?

And who has a forum that reaches many tens-of-thousands of people…?

Sigh… I stand corrected. I did say I was never a rah-rah Aggie. There are entire volumes of Aggie culture of which I confess ignorance.

That one long-haired guy isn’t wearing a shirt at all…though he does have his “pants” on.

    Mine was funnier…

That is an excellent, well expressed statement!

    Bravo!

From the excerpt from the Christian Science Monitor, quoted in Michelle’s opening thread commentary above

“We may have just seen the whole movement” at these protests, says Mr. Kimball. “I don’t see it as a groundswell, but a manifestation by those people who form the core of … the extreme right reacting both to the condition of our time and President Obama – he’s black and he’s liberal.“

Notice that it is actually authentic, dyed in the wool racists like this Professor Kimball who spin their racist, bigoted, prejudicial pabulum?

Who is the person who is looking at race? Jerry Kimball, Professor emeritus.

Who is the person who is attempting to foment racist animosity, creating friction and even possibly violence among the races? Jerry Kimball, Professor emeritus.

Who is the person whose racism is so strong that he actually took the time to make an issue of Barrack Hussein Obama’s race? Jerry Kimball, Professor Emeritus.

Notice that the TEA party participants, the conservatives who want smaller government and are outraged over the overspending in government don’t care about Barrack Hussein Obama’s race, but the leftists, the left leaning main stream media, and Hollywood celebrities DO notice race, are the REAL racists, and actually get into making race an issue.

No. The racists are clearly all leftists, and always have been throughout history.

While we have better things to concern ourselves with other than what someone’s race is, and while the leftists have such hate and racist bigotry and class hatred in their hearts and have nothing better to do than act on their racism and bigotry, the country is being dragged down by a socialist/fascist/left leaning sell out, who bad mouths our nation, and our citizens, to dictators and oppressors of others.

    What a world!

    PART OF GAROF@CKUP’S BIO:
Garofalo is quoted as having disliked life in Houston due to the humidity, heat, and emphasis on prettiness and sports in high school. Garofalo is a self-described pessimist: “I guess I just prefer to see the dark side of things. The glass is always half empty. And cracked. And I just cut my lip on it. And chipped a tooth.”

And there you have it in a nutshell…

lib fascists like garof@ckup, if they’re fortunate enough to make it out of the womb, do so feeling they need therapy from day one.

Then their lifetime of therapy drives them to self-loathing, and then just plain loathing. They have no self-esteem, their therapist tells them this is normal, so therefore no one else deserves to have self-esteem.

Patriotism is foreign to them. A fairy tale, if that. Normalcy is foreign to them. Authority figures (ie, parents) are not to be trusted, because parents are always the source of the problems in their sick little worlds.

Garof@ckup should have grown up a long time ago, but it is simply too late for her.

Those of us on this blog that have kids need to teach them right from wrong, and that libs are not to be trusted. Parents are the springboard of our kids’ lives, and deserve respect. We are authority figures for the good of our children, and no “village” or therapist will ever love them like we do.

My kids do not even know who garof@ckup is, and won’t as long as they are living in my home. However, they do know who this Hollywood patriot is.

    Night all. Packing for Disney.

Janeane Garofalo is nearly as funny as Al Franken, perhaps she should run for the Senate? Maybe even the UN?

I’d like to see Janeane Garofalo debate Ron White. I don’t care what they debate about, I’d pay to see it.
