Gossip blogger/pageant judge calls contestant “dumb b*tch” over gay marriage question
Well, here’s your liberal tolerance for you.
Gossip blogger/barrel-scraper Perez Hilton was a judge at the Miss USA pageant last night. He asked Miss California, Carrie Prejean, whether she supported legalizing gay marriage. Prejean answered respectfully that she disagreed with the legalization movement, but supported states’ rights to put the question up for a vote. She was booed:

A US beauty pageant hopeful was called “a dumb bitch” by a celebrity judge after candidly answering a question about same-sex marriage.
Miss California, Carrie Prejean, was asked by contest judge and celebrity gossip blogger Perez Hilton for her views on gay marriage during the Miss USA pageant at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, samesame.com reports.
Hilton asked this question: “Vermont recently became the fourth state to legalise same-sex marriage. Do you think every state should follow suit? Why or why not?”
“Well I think it’s great that Americans are able to choose one way or the other,” 21-year-old Prejean said.
“We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage,” she continued.
“You know what, in my country, in my family, I do believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman, no offence to anybody out there.
“But that’s how I was raised and I believe that it should be between a man and a woman. Thank you.”
Hilton, the self proclaimed “Queen of all media” who has campaigned for gay equal rights, called the answer “the worst answer in pageant history”.
On a video blog on his website Hilton said, “She lost not because she doesn’t believe in gay marriage, she lost because she’s a dumb bitch!”
The Miss USA pageant should be ashamed for providing Perez Hilton a platform for his intolerant bigotry and abuse of Carrie Prejean. Instead, the pageant director for the Miss California contest is condemning Prejean — and Hilton is gloating.
Disgraceful. The Miss USA pageant owes this young woman a public apology.

Why is it that militant gays seem to be unable to see how intolerant their fight for “tolerance” is?

This is infuriating. There is no “controversy” in her statement. It was an honest answer to a direct question. Miss North Carolina did not say “homosexuality is wrong and gay people should be shunned from society” or any other “provocative” statement.
The only “controversy” is that Miss North Carolina did not provide the answer certain liberals wanted to hear.
Of course, I cant say this, else my oh-so-tolerant brethren brand me as “self-hatin’”.
Miss Prejean is pretty and gutsy. Good on her.

Wow, I saw the ending last night, but I didn’t see the Q&A session. If I had known that Perez Hilton was even a judge, I wouldn’t have given it two seconds of my time. The crazy thing is he even followed up with “Why or why not?” If he wasn’t allowing for either answer, why even ask the question? Shameful; this will be the last time I watch it.
Poor girl. She deserves an apology, but I doubt she’ll get it. How do the organizers speak out against a contestant? What purpose does it serve? I just don’t get it.

Give me a break, RedState. NOTHING that has come out of the left has shown that they – especially the vocal minority on gay marriage – are in any way tolerant of one’s different beliefs.
The Constitution of this country guarantees Ms. Prejean’s right (and the right of everyone else) to express her views. These are called “free speech” and “freedom of religious expression”. These rights are not conditional or contingent on whether or not they offend or may hurt someone’s feelings.
And a good deal of voters from all backgrounds obviously agree with her – which is why ballots defending marriage have passed in even heavily blue-leaning states like California and Wisconsin.
So don’t give me that BS that this is “intolerant.” Ms. Prejean thinks gay marriage is wrong. That is her right.
On the other hand, the left claims to be oh-so-tolerant and is never judgmental…yet they fail – time and again – to live up to that standard they try to force on everyone else.
Carrie Prejean shows her true character by speaking the truth and not equivacating to win a beauty contest. That says a lot about a person.

Miss California has a first class lawsuit if she wishes to pursue it. She entered a contest with the understanding that there were certain rules and standards, and it is obvious that those were deliberately breached by Hilton and possibly the individual involved in picking the question. She has been “damaged” regardless of whether she should have won or not. This is civil fraud by the Pageant and by Hilton, and it may constitute a criminal violation of civil rights law.
I hope she sues, and I hope the Miss USA pageant sues Hilton. He has certainly damaged the Miss USA Pageant.
Obviously, this nobody, who has to use a play on words in his “professional name” has something crammed up his…well, ya know.

Perez Hilton has always been a nasty, hateful, little piece of crap. There was nothing wrong with his initial question. My opinion aside, the contestant’s answer was very balanced and articulate.
Perez then subsequently made made a terrible example of himself and the movement. He has always been an ahole.

This is the first time I have been “exposed” to this person and it wasn’t a pleasant experience, as Hilton is an offensive, repulsive, arrogant, vindictive, malevolent character. In which way is Hilton a “celebrity?”

Perhaps Hilton is just extremely jealous of Carrie Prejean and couldn’t help but act out in such a childish, disrespectful manner. Miss California, Carrie Prejean, did fine in answering her question under the extremely limited venue afforded her in the pageant.

If beauty contests expect all contestants to have PC-approved views down the line, every contestant would look like Janeane Garofalo.
As annoying as Perez Hilton can be, he’s right about this one. How ridiculous for you guys to call him out for supposedly being “intolerant” when it’s her and her supporters here that are being intolerant? If someone makes a racial slur, is it somehow “intolerant” if I criticize them back? Of course not. This issue is the exact same thing. Homosexuals are being unjustly treated by the “one man, one woman” marriage laws just as racial minorities were mistreated when interracial marriages were not allowed. There is no rational reason that homosexuals should not be treated equally and be allowed to marry under the law. They’re not asking your religion to recognize their marriage, just the state, which is supposed to be secular (that’s why it’s the state).
The question, coming from this homo-hate-queen, was an obvious set up. The pageant is supposed to showcase beauty, grace, and family values. It is the Miss USA pageant, not the Mister Gay pageant.

The pageants have a history of questions related to politics and public policy. The question was very relevant to these times. Her answer was great even though I don’t share her opinion.

Given the intelligence of the people who watch beauty contests, what did you expect? When I read the pronouncements of people like Hilton, I always try and remember Will Rogers comment:
“Everyone has the right to their opinion, but no one has the right to be takken seriously.”
Yeah…they’re “not asking your religion to recognize their marriage” which is why
* A Christian photog in New Mexico was sued for objecting to photographing a same-sex commitment ceremony
* Catholic Charities in Massachusetts shut down its adoption program after the state (supposedly secular) said they had to place kids with gay couples, contra Catholic teaching
* Why – after the passage of Prop. 8 – Mormons and Christians were harassed in their places of worship, business, and residence
* Why – after Ms. Prejean said what her beliefs were – she was attacked not only by Perez Hilton but by people here and elsewhere.
This is all about “equality”, if by “equality” you mean that the gay rights movement can dictate who can/can’t speak or that everyone MUST approve of their lifestyle choice
This is not the same as racism. Racism is wrong because it attacks the person, not the behavior and a social construct. And an interracial marriage between a man and a woman does not undermine the nature of a marriage – which is supposed to be an institution for the creation and protection of children.
This is also why a lot of blacks – especially in CA – voted for Prop. 8. Many are offended that the work done during the Civil Rights movement is being undermine and usurped.
But it’s funny you mention racism, because a lot of religious persons believe racism to be wrong and have spoken out about it in the past – or were they wrong for interjecting religion into the secular business of the state?
I don’t see this development as being particularly bad. I mean Prejean now has a good case against this pageant and hilton in particular. The treatment she received was malicious, unfair, and they made themselves an easy target for legislation. They also have deep network pockets. I say sue the pants off them.
There’s a wide gap between tolerance and endorsement. The word tolerance is bandied about way to much that its meaning has become muddled.
She stated an acceptance to the rule of law and voiced her own opinion based on the values in which she was raised. You are free to have a differing opinion, but her belief does not affect any individual’s right.
Or would you rather that she be forced to voice only the opinion which is considered to be politically “tolerant”? Who gets to decide that?
You might defend Perez’s response and he is, of course, entitled to his own opinion. However, many here: liberal, conservative and moderate, agreed that his response was far from articulate and makes him look juvenile and, dare I say, intolerant?

The sad thing is that she was crowned 1st runner up. Had Hilton given her good scores, she would have won. This girl was robbed. Regardless of his sexual orientation, Hilton should not have asked her a question if he couldn’t fairly judge the answer. The pagent must be in trouble is this person is the only one they could find to judge.
I’d raise hell, if I were this girl. I’d swing back just as hard as I could. This loud-mouth nobody cost her the crown and the scholarship. This is wrong.

The charge that this Hilton clown threw at Prejean, is nowhere near as bad as what that act did to Hilton. The fact that this dumb contest director is supporting this idiot just makes this whole contest, contestable.
You know, that got me thinking. I’m now very curious as to whether or not Ms. Prejean, a resident of the state of CA, is on any of the lists of donors to Prop. 8, or if her views on gay marriage were publicly know before this.
Because if they were, it’d make a compelling case that she was targeted and set up for this.

This law suit is about unfair judging and consequent loss of a scholarship. That has a real dollar value. Furthermore, public humiliation, libel,… The network made itself responsible by giving a podium to this Hilton clown and then by supporting his nonsense. This would be an easy case.

What you’re suggesting is very hard to prove. Who would buy that there was a conspiracy beforehand to set her up with this question, that again makes her look like gold.
Regarding the scores, can it be proven that Hilton was the lone, sole vote that kept her from winning, and her answer was the lone, sole, reason?

We need somebody to “get serious” about this. Anybody seen Joe Biden? He’s been absent for about a month.
The way the question was worded, and the fact that it was directed at Miss California, especially given the fallout after the passage of Prop 8., and the fact that Miss Prejean came in second – and that Hilton was visually displeased with her response – warrants an investigation.
This wasn’t for some trophy. This was for a scholarship and a lot of extra benefits. If her scores were intentionally lowered on the basis that Hilton didn’t like her response, it should be investigated.
If a conservative figure asked the same question of a contestant, who answered she supported gay marriage, and that figure reacted in the same way as Hilton did/is, and that contestant was 1st runner up, there’d be questions about it.
I could be wrong, but I want to know
1) If Miss California’s views on marriage were known prior to this event
2) If Hilton’s scores were what cost her the crown
3) What the recompense will be, if any.
Which is why I’m especially curious if she showed up on any of those Prop 8 donor lists or otherwise had her views made public prior to this event.
That’s where I think this hinges.
As for scores, they are known to those doing the tallying. I’d like to see how Hilton’s scores of her rated before/after the question.

You can’t sue because you lost a contest based entirely on subjective criteria and judged by entirely subjective judges. For all you know the other judges could have thought her answer was great and scored her higher.
At best, Perez Hilton will never be asked to judge anything again.

filmladd. I would guess that Perez is someone trying to obtain attention for himself by using the popularity associated with the name Paris Hilton. That could also be a cause of grievance as his actions can bring financial harm to Paris Hilton. Maybe there was no point in suing him earlier as he likely has no money, but now he just tied himself to a network and they have deep pockets. I am certain someone will take up this case.
