My syndicated column today looks at the outbreak of Obama-esque discourse across the country. Couldn’t even mention some of the misogynist sleaze prompted by the Tea Party movement because newspapers wouln’t print it. And they call us an “unhinged mob?”

They told us if Barack Obama were elected, the nation would come together. Souls would be fixed. Spirits would be healed. Public discourse would be elevated. Welcome to civility and tolerance in the Age of Obama:
* Celebrity leech/trash blogger Perez Hilton took to the Internet and TV airwaves to humiliate a beauty pageant contestant who gave what he considered an “offensive” answer about gay marriage. Hilton, inexplicably serving as a judge of the Miss USA contest, had asked Miss California Carrie Prejean whether she supported the legalization of gay marriage. Prejean respectfully answered: “I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that’s how I was raised.” President Obama, by the way, defines marriage the same way Carrie Prejean does.
No matter. Hilton immediately lambasted Prejean as a “dumb b*tch” in a viral YouTube video he taped after the pageant Sunday night. He apologized the next morning for the attack, then retracted his apology, then escalated his divisive rhetoric. On Tuesday afternoon, Hilton told an MSNBC female anchor that he was thinking of an even more vulgar epithet – the “c-word” – as he listened to Prejean’s answer. The female anchor said nothing. Basking in his new role as thought and speech enforcer, Hilton told CNN’s Larry King that beauty pageant contestants must bow to the tolerance mob: “Yes. I do expect Miss USA to be politically correct.”
And apparently, the Miss USA organizers agree. Instead of apologizing for pageant judge Perez Hilton’s vile behavior, the pageant director of the Miss California contest, Keith Lewis, sent a note to Hilton throwing Prejean under the bus: “I am personally saddened and hurt that Miss CA USA 2009 believes marriage rights belong only to a man and a woman…Religious beliefs have no place in politics in the Miss CA family.”
But gutter profanity and misogyny do?
*At the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill last week, former GOP congressman Tom Tancredo came to speak against legislative proposals to provide illegal alien students in-state tuition discounts not available to law-abiding Americans and legal immigrant students. Protesters at the institution of higher learning responded by blocking Tancredo with massive banners and screaming “No dialogue with hate.” Adults in the room stood by while students smashed a window a few feet from where Tancredo stood. Physically threatened, Tancredo was forced to leave without delivering his remarks.
According to campus reports, leftists had prepared for a week to mount a speech-squelching demonstration. The same thuggish tactics have been used at Columbia University, Georgetown University, and Michigan State University to shut down speakers who support strict immigration enforcement. The UNC administration apologized for the students’ tantrum, but took no steps to examine its own culpability for fostering a climate of intellectual vandalism and intolerance.
*The nightly airwaves turned into a soft-porn cesspool last week as liberal journalists derided and slimed hundreds of thousands of Tea Party protesters across the country who oppose reckless taxing and spending by both major political parties. Award-winning CNN anchor Anderson Cooper, mimicking his bottom-of-the-barrel competitors at MSNBC, smugly indulged in sexual puns about “teabagging.” MSNBC devoted the entire week to sophomoric sexual slang and innuendo with references to “nuts,” Dick Armey, and “full-throated” protesters.
And White House adviser David Axelrod calls the Tea Party folks “unhealthy?”
Speaking of unhealthy, angry white liberal actress Janeane Garofalo venomously played the race card: “It’s about hating a black man in the White House. This is racism straight up and is nothing but a bunch of teabagging rednecks.” The theme was echoed by Jeffrey Kimball, a professor emeritus of history at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, who castigated the “extreme right” for organizing against President Obama because “he’s black and he’s liberal.“ Tell that to the thousands of activists in South Carolina who practically booed and heckled white Republican Rep. Gresham Barrett off the stage at a Tea Party in Greenville last Friday night for supporting the trillion-dollar TARP and embracing the pork-laden stimulus law after voting against it. “Go home!” they shouted. The only color that mattered to protesters: the red ink of government debts.
But in the age of Obama, there’s no room for such nuance and inconvenient truths. A decent young woman is a “dumb b*tch” for holding the same view of marriage as the Obamessiah. A conservative campus speaker is bullied as a hatemonger by wild-eyed hatemongers. A grass-roots movement is debased as a bunch of racist vulgarians by a media mob of racists and vulgarians. Civility and tolerance have taken a left-hand turn down a one-way street. So much for changing course.

Why do so many refuse to acknowledge the legitimate objections some people have to state recognition of gay marriage and hesitate to challenge them on the level of ideas? Why do they resort to name-calling as a means of discourse?
Their preference for slurring gay marriage opponents parallels the way they and their peers respond to the Tea Parties. Instead of listening to their adversaries’ arguments and acknowledging the sincerity of their concerns, they treat them as a bully treats the defenseless kid on the playground.
They think they can get away with it because the MSM encourages their insults. And doesn’t hold them to account for their mean-spirited attempts to demean their adversaries.
Our society could gain by a serious discussion of gay marriage. Gay people in particular would benefit from such a conversation. Yet, the supposed advocates of this change would rather score points in some imaginary contest with conservatives than make a point about the social benefits of extending the benefits of marriage to same-sex couples.

If this country legalizes gay marriage, you can expect the courts to be overrun with ridiculous lawsuits over ‘civil rights’. Even civil unions is unnecessary. It’s not about religion, it’s about the law. If they legalize gay marriage, the legal loopholes would be too tremendous for our courts to handle.
If you want to cripple our justice system, legalize gay marriage. That’s going to be the fastest way to do it.

Garofalo couldn’t buy a clue if she had an obama bailout check to spend. She commented on the Tea Parties without any knowledge of what it was about at all. Maybe Hilton was talking about her when he made he’s low life comments.

By the very definition of the word bigot Perez and his ilk (we all know them) are the true bigots!

As conservatives, we sort of expect our police departments to…well…police.
Increasingly, they don’t. They have lots to do, and they also have an over-burden of PC crap that inhibits them. I’ve read some incredible leftist bilge coming from police brass.
So, we see anarchists in various venues vandalize cities, towns, and rights. And nobody does anything about it.
I think of the virtual riots by protesters near Ft. Lewis, who where “welcoming” troops home or sending them off with a show of gratitude…, among about a thousand other examples.
I’m not saying we need to descend to vigilantism, but even that was a very rational response (especially initially) to a vacuum of civil order.
I am saying that people have both a right…and an obligation…to stand up of civility. To teach by object lesson, if no other way.
If we don’t…we can’t complain when it’s gone…

It doesn’t matter. You shouldn’t have to worry about being offensive if you are true to yourself and speak your mind. It isn’t against the law to offend someone. . . if it were, then homosexuality would be outlawed as it offends greater than 50% of the population.

Homosexuality is treated worse in Islam than it is in Christianity. If a Muslim beats up a homosexual who protests at a mosque, who’s rights have been violated? Hmm, last time I checked, Perez Hilton was not Barack Obama. Nor was he serving in Obama’s administration. Nor do we know anything about his politics other than his support for gay marriage. Obama is brining America together. He may be isolating bigots, awkward wingnuts and hilariously outdated thinkers. When Obama spoke about respect and coming together, he of course did not expect deranged Republicans like Malkin, Limbaugh and Hannity to behave like adults or to be reasonable. No one did, because no one expected your kind to get a grip on reality.
Obama’s approval ratings are consistently very high, the world is moving to forgive America’s appalling behavior under Bush, we’re dealing with Cuba and Iran like grown ups for once, gays are no longer fodder for stirring up anger and a woman’s right to choose is no longer under threat from the president. America is already a better country than it was under Bush, and it hasn’t even been 100 days since Obama took office.

If the complaint is that civility and honest discussion have disappeared and that people who disagree are being bullied, then look at the comments on this website and on Hot Air. And then look in the mirror.
Like I said before, inviting Perez Hilton to be a “judge” on the Miss USA Contest is like inviting Jeffrey Dahmer to be a “judge” on Iron Chef.

1. Are Obama’s approval ratings higher than Bush’s after 9/11? No.
2. America is a beacon of hope to the world now, and was under Bush. It’s too bad you don’t see that. Bush did more for AIDS in Africa than anyone. Helped the senior citizens with prescription drug coverage (which was too expensive and poorly done, but good), and gave more money and resources to the world than the world gave to us. It is only in your head that you think America needs to apologize for Bush. Last I checked, people were begging to be American.
3. Cuba and Iran are using Obama as a pawn. . . and so is China, N. Korea, and Russia for that matter. Obama is treating them like they are the superpower, not us.
4. Gays are stirring up anger AGAINST people who disagree with them. There haven’t been such childish demonstrations of a lost elections as there was in California under Prop 8 for a while. Gays are digging their own graves with their political uprising and I hope they keep it up. Perez is a great spokesman for the gays.
5. A woman’s right to choose to kill her own baby is not something I would crow as a positive. It is a stain on this country and will be considered as much of a stain on this country as slavery was in 100 years. How a society cares for its most vulnerable is how that society will be judged. Killing babies is not a positive no matter who ‘chooses’ it.

More FACES should be shown of anyone disrupting free speech. Especially those faces of students whose parents pay tuition or dependent children. Maybe someone here will recognize one of these kids and give them a severe tongue lashing…or cut off their tuition, room and board etc..

I disagree. Nothing here compares to the things posted on liberal sites. What was said about Ann Coulter when her dad passed away was inexcusably heartless, and designed for no other purpose but to add to the grief she and her family felt.

Amen! Orlandocajun, you hit the nail on the head. As a gay man, I’m horrified by the vile actions of the most visible segment of the gay population. Over the past year or so, I’ve been withdrawing myself from the gay “society”, their views and actions are not what I stand for. Instead, I’ve been focusing more on my family, non-gay friends, activities, church, etc… and I’m much happier. Many in the gay community are so full of hate toward people who don’t agree with them. It’s like a cancer; their hate spreads within. You should hear some of the comments directed at me when they learn I’m a Christian conservative who doesn’t support gay marriage.
I’m only “out” to selected friends and family, not because I’m embarrassed by my orientation, but because I don’t want to be associated with the likes of Hilton and their hatred. Surprisingly, I have been finding there are more and more gays like me.
A lot of people keep asking why he was judging the pageant in the first place and that answer is simple. Massive amount of free publicity for a dying pageant. The amount of web traffic that Hilton gets is staggering. Having him talk about being a judge gave the pageant millions in free advertising. He has a best selling book, a clothing line and an imprint with Warner Bros. music. Women line up at his book signings like he’s a rock star. It made total sense from a business standpoint to have him as a judge.

This is what I have always said to gays regarding “gay marriage” and it is their “smoke screen” justification. You and I and everyone else know that the gays who want “gay marriage” are the same ones who want society to view homosexuality as normal and they think the state of marriage would give that. To “honor” President Obama, Ahmadinejad used his time at the UN racism conference to further his goals in slamming Israel through a verbal onslaught. He then later rapped President Obama for not attending the conference.
Oh, and Castro? He wasn’t impressed, either. Seems the appeasement changes weren’t quite enough for him and however his brother’s words might have been intrepreted, he has clearly refuted any notion of a chill thawing between Cuba and the US.
So, how is that “grown up” policy of appeasing the dictators of the world with their own personal appearance and photo op with the President working out? Should we judge by the pretty pictures we see from the MSM, or the actions these tyrants take?
Not true. I know SEVERAL people that voted for him and most of those say they are now second guessing that choice. National polling has shown some decline (not increase) in support for some of his policy initiatives as well.
Using his Cabinet appointments as a barometer, most have been outright bad choices and many of those have advocated and/or initiated VERY controversial policies right ‘out of gate’ – in particular Holder and Napolitano, etc.
