Janet Napolitano screws up again
Gaffestastic Janet Napolitano is at it again — this time earning the partially justified derision of Canadians after suggesting that 9/11 terrorists entered the U.S. through the northern border:
The furor began when Napolitano was asked to clarify statements she had made about equal treatment for the Mexican and Canadian borders, despite the fact that a flood of illegal immigrants and a massive drug war are two serious issues on the southern border.
“Yes, Canada is not Mexico, it doesn’t have a drug war going on, it didn’t have 6,000 homicides that were drug-related last year,” she said.
“Nonetheless, to the extent that terrorists have come into our country or suspected or known terrorists have entered our country across a border, it’s been across the Canadian border. There are real issues there.”
When asked if she was referring to the 9-11 terrorists, Napolitano added: “Not just those but others as well.”
It was, of course, lax policing at our overseas consulates in Saudi Arabia (hello, Visa Express) that opened the door to the 9/11 jihadis. And it was the failure of interior enforcement that enabled them to stay.
Napolitano was boneheadedly wrong about the 9/11 – Canadian border claim, and she tried to finesse it with a dishonest clarification:
In a release Tuesday night following the interview, she called Canada a “close ally and an important partner” and said she was simply misunderstood.
“I know that the September 11th hijackers did not come through Canada to the United States,” she said in the statement.
“There are other instances, however, when suspected terrorists have attempted to enter our country from Canada to the United States. Some of these are well-known to the public — such as the Millennium Bomber — while others are not due to security reasons.”
On the second point, which she apparently had to be reminded about by more informed staffers, she is of course correct. Canada’s National Post, in response to Napolitano’s blunder, is too quick to gloss over the national security concerns to our north. A reminder from last spring:
Comprehensive immigration enforcement reform, however, means paying attention to all our ports of entry–air, land, and sea. And all our borders–southern and northern. In Invasion , I recounted how Border Patrol agents would stick orange rubber cones on vast, unguarded swaths of the northern border. I’ve reported on the security threat posed to the U.S. by Canada’s lax asylum policies, jihadi-friendly positions, and McCustoms’ attitude. Daniel Stoffman’s “Who Gets In” diagnosed the systemic ills of Canada’s immigration system, which in turn, poses dangers to us.
A new DHS report reveals that little has changed. Via USAT:
Montana has the longest unprotected border in the world with a sparse population and vast terrain on the U.S. side and 90% of Canada’s population within 100 miles on the other. That makes the area vulnerable to illegal crossings into the United States by terrorists and extremists groups, the Helena Independent Record says.
While the state’s northern border population is sparse, the area is highly traveled. More than 70 million international travelers and 35 million vehicles crossed the northern border last year. Agents made about 4,000 arrests and intercepted 40,000 pounds of illegal drugs, the newspaper reports.
“There is an undisputed presence in Canada of known terrorist affiliate and extremist groups, including Hezbollah, Hamas and the Armed Islamic Group of Algeria,” according to a report from the Department of Homeland Security.
With Google Earth revealing 58 unmanned roads or trails leading in and out of the country, local law enforcement say they lack the manpower to properly guard the border. Currently, there are 190 officers working the northern border.

Has anyone in D.C. counted the number of jobless this week? Nope – just keep spending money like we had some. Without jobs, taxes don’t get collected, programs go unfunded…and cigarette taxes are never going to make up the difference.

Your untoward and inaccurate comments on CNN’s “State of the Union” program clearly show the anarchic course in which you want to take our nation. I fear that your misrepresentation of America’s laws will lead our nation to ruin.
8 U.S.C. 1325(a) clearly states: “Any alien who (1) enters or attempts to enter the United States at any time or place other than as designated by immigration officers, or (2) eludes examination or inspection by immigration officers, or (3) attempts to enter or obtains entry to the United States by a willfully false or misleading representation or the willful concealment of a material fact, shall, for the first commission of any such offense, be fined under title 18 or imprisoned not more than 6 months, or both, and, for a subsequent commission of any such offense, be fined under title 18, or imprisoned not more than 2 years, or both.” What part of this do you not understand?
8 U.S.C. 1325(a) does not seem difficult to understand. it clearly states that crossing into the United States without permission is a crime. With this in mind, you should consider retracting the comments you made on CNN.
To be honest, I do not believe you are ignorant of the law. Instead, I believe that the law does not suit your political agenda.
I fear that your comments on CNN prove that you and the Obama administration do not want DHS to enforce our nation’s immigration laws. This is an incredibly callous and shallow agenda to push when more than 13 million Americans are unemployed and 7 million illegal aliens have jobs.
Not only does the aforementioned 8 U.S.C. 1325(a) state that crossing the border is a crime, it is also criminal when illegal aliens steal American identities to obtain jobs and defraud government in order to obtain benefits to which they are not entitled.
I urge you to brush up on America’s immigration laws. Than enforce them! If you will not protect America’s unemployed workers, why did you even bother to swear to uphold the laws of our nation?
Sooner or later the disaster we anticipate will come, followed by breathless media reports of Bush responsibility, followed by promises that Bush appointees will be prosecuted. Ad nauseum….

Napolitano is a hopeless twit. Yes, 9/11 terrorists didn’t come from Canada, but I have to admit that there are others up here in Canada who have made the attempt to cross the border or are waiting to do so.
After 9/11, the US government deported around 50,000 Pakistanis deemed unsavoury — most likely for their various ties to terrorist and other criminal organizations. The Canadian prime minister at the time agreed to take them all in, and they were settled in Toronto, all 50,000 of them. It is no wonder that there is so much terrorist activity originating in Toronto — e.g., websites and other online activities by potential terrorists, etc.
Seeing how Pakistan is falling apart more and more and becoming the next Afghanistan, every Western country should think twice, nay, thrice, before admitting even tourists from that country, because the risk of terror attached to that country and its people is simply too great now to be ignored, or whitewashed.

I don’t like to parse words, but Michelle refers to Napolitano as not being serious or informed enough.
I’m not saying that Michelle is wrong, but I am saying that her words don’t go far enough.
Napolitano, like her boss Chauncey, is dumb. As in “non-intelligent.”
I’m tired of people like O’Reilly “conceding” that Obama is intelligent. He’s not. Yes, he got into good schools… on affirmative action. But at what point are we going to acknowledge that intelligence and education are only moderatly correlated, at best – particularly given a University class that is so deeply skewed to the left?
Even if Obama and Napolitano are book-smart, and I’m not conceding that point – but just for argument’s sake. Even if they are, they are for all practical purposes fools. Clowns.
Obama has done *nothing* right. Step by step, he’s mumbled and stumbled his way through. I refer to him as Chauncey, but it’s a weak parallel. Chauncey the Gardner was predisposed to not speak, and in his silence he appeared “deep.” Obama chooses to speak, and speak, and speak, thus confirming his status as buffoon.
When’s the last time you heard a president say things like “I’m not naive,” or have to call reporters back to say “Were you serious about my being socialist?”
This is “through the looking glass” kind of stuff. You’ve never seen anything like it before, because even JFK was a genius compared to this imbecile.
Our president has never obtained and succeeded at a job that wasn’t attibutable to the color of his skin, including the one he has now. At U. Chicago he was an instructor, not a professor. Even with his Columbia and Harvard degrees, the guy couldn’t get a tenure track position.
He was a “community organizer.” Are you kidding?

Napolitano is worse. The mistake she made in saying that the terrorists came from Canada is fatal. There is simply no way that this woman can be anything other than a high-functioning idiot, at least in her field of work. Her actions are Python Gumby-esque, peering down someone’s trousers while stating that they are going to inspect their brain. It staggers your common sense to witness this stuff.

Sadly that is partly true in this case. Jorge Arbusto was more passionate about defending Iraq’s borders than ours.
So…I’m at a small family owned cafe at lunch. I guy walks in and starts speaking in Spanish to the son working the counter (who has brown skin). The son doesn’t understand a word the patron is saying, but the guy keeps yammering in Spanish. You know the attitude, this is America, I’m brown, you’re brown, Spanish is the official language here. It turns out the family running the cafe is Egyptian ( the father actually served in the U.S. Army, the son is as Gringo as I am).
I laughed.
Southpaw, the irony is chilling. The Egyptian served his adopted country, the other has decided that his invation of a sovereign country should learn his language. I love it. God bless hard work and assimilation. The others will never get it and don’t want to.
