John Kerry, Catholicism and abortion: Courage of somebody else’s convictions
The U.S. Ambassador to the Vatican position remains open, but even “pro-choice Catholic” John Kerry seems certain that a pro-life candidate is a necessity for that post.
From the USA Today:
In other comments, Kerry said:
• He did not recommend Caroline Kennedy to be U.S. ambassador to the Vatican. Kerry believes an abortion-rights supporter should not be in that post, to avoid offending the Holy See.
“I made no such recommendation,” he said, refuting Italian news media reports. “I think that if you’re going to have an ambassador who has access to His Holiness … it is best not to make things difficult from the outset.”
So Sen. Kerry is willing to commit to Catholic pro-life standards on a targeted, temporary and political basis to avoid offending the Vatican, but not as a life-long Christian conviction to avoid offending Jesus Christ? Now all we have to do is convince Kerry that the unborn are perpetually up for a Vatican ambassadorship.
For Kerry’s sake, I hope that “I was for legal abortion, before I was against it briefly, before I was for it again” is an acceptible explanation at the entrance to the Pearly Gates.

I’ve got a feeling Purgatory is going to be quite crowded for a long time.
Aren’t all these Congress Critters Flip Flops used up by now?
From the outset? How about never making things difficult?
A local talkshow host asked yesterday just which world leader (read: totalitarian dictator-tyrant) WON’T Obama greet heartily, bow to, or smile with?
In Obama’s world, Chavez, Castro, Ahmadinejad and Il are all people we need to “dialogue” with. What’s the over-under he shows no such compassion or consideration for the Holy Father and the Vatican.
“From the outset”…how long before things for pro-life Catholics in this nation get really difficult?
Oh, wait…that’s right. The Pope is the leader of one of the world’s largest right-wing extremist groups.
Test…
I remember a time not all that long ago that “flip-flop” was something to be used as a warning sign that said flip-flopper is not to be trusted. Today, to flip-flop is an acceptable tool from the political handbook.
Can I hear an “Amen!”? All of those aborted children will be standing behind Christ when the unrigtious dead are raised. Get with the program, Kerry, there is still time.
This may seem like a stupid question, but why exactly is it necessary to appoint a specific person to be ambassador to the Vatican? I’m afraid my logic circuits fail me on this one.
Veretax, I’m sure if Odopey had his druthers he would pass altogether on that one, he’d rather have a Czar to the Pope or some Goof like Bidet handle it.
Kerry sickens me. The man is a life-long freeloader. First off his relatives then his wife and of course their always the public.
The Vatican should order the excommunication of all those who have publicly supported abortion and refuse to change their tune.
Watching Pelosi and Kerry equivocate and squirm would be particularly entertaining.
The Holy See is a sovereign state and not part of Italy.
If only Democrats would stand up for individual liberty like they stand up for the “right” to murder their offspring.

Thanks, FilmLadd! Let me get some things in order and I’ll go ahead and preorder. Look forward to seeing your work.
There’s nothing more to say.
Oh, “ajmontana”, warn a gal, would you before you flush out a “Bidet” comment so early in the morning. My coffee nearly found itself on the computer screen!
scituate_tgr – The first 100 days of flip-flopping has been the trademark of Obama and the drive-bys have said nothing.
As far as Kerry, any person who loves the praise of men more than the holiness of God should be considered a fake.
Jahn Karry is stupid but he’s not a complete idiot.
Yes I realize the “Holy See” is basically a separate state, but what are we afraid the pop will declare war or something? Do we actually make treaties with them?
Nothing has changed in a couple thousand years.
Nobody declares war anymore.
I mean, given how little we probably interact with them, and in the current economy wouldn’t it make more sense to perhaps have ambassadors to multiple nations, especially if they are not major ones like Britain, Russia, China, germany etc?
Caroline could have worked! I mean, didn’t Nancy Pelosi break the ice with the Pope? You liberals give up to easy.
I gotta give a HUGE AMEN to that!! Pick a politician, almost anyone, and this fits. Amazin’ how the Lord is “one-size-fits-all, huh?
Speaking of trademarks, my contribution for the first 100:
O-flop®
Aw man; do I have to hear from Lurch again?
BTW–I haven’t seen Tuh-RAYZA for awhile. The last time I saw her (on some *shudder* morning show) she acted drunk or drugged up. What’s up with her? Is she off someplace pretending to be an heir to some other family business?
Kerry, Kennedy and Pelosi arrived at their Catholic pro-choice position by listening to the late former Congressman-Catholic priest Robert Drinan. Kerry served as his campaign manager in 1970. The pope ordered Drinan not to run for Congress after 10 years:
But everything is OK now–Barney Frank took his place.
Not just politicians, but also Hollyweird and a few main-line denominations that have been losing membership. They’ve been trying to redefine Christianity for a very long time, instead of dealing with sin.
The pro-abortion crowd has little hope of ever seeing the Pearly Gates.
Ha! spaceycakes, lurch. lol
I’m not a fan of Michelle Odopey but could you imagine Heinz 57 being First Lady? Holy Carp! that’s scary.
and sorry Goodforlaughs, I have a spare monitor if you need it.
Who was the last Ambassador to the Vatican if anyone knows w/o me googleing?
Why is it that pro-life organizations don’t make more of this with the Catholic church? Seems to me as a lot Catholic Priest and Catholic “movement” are very much anti-conservative. Yet no one seems to make any progress is pointing out to US Catholics that the Democrats and Catholic convictions on serious matters do not jive. Are Catholics pro-gay marriage, pro-abortion, etc.?
I also have the same unanswered questions about the Jewish community in the US. Why does it in general support Democrats who are notoriously anti-Israel and pro-Arab in the middle east?
I just don’t get it.
Why is there even a discussion between the US Catholic Church and the Left that for all practical purposes feels like a negotiation on this core issue of pro-life vs. pro-abortion?
So if the Catholic Church can get leniency on illegal immigration they’ll cut the Left some slack on abortion? Is that the US Catholic church’s position?
Quite a quandry…how does the party of killing the unborn and promoting all things gay fake it in Vatican City without smelling the place up like a backed up septic tank?
Obama can send Rick Warren, the new flip-flopping tool of the left, whose immage seems to be more important these days than principle.
More and more, Kerry, and others like him who use religion for politics, should realize that their names are disappearing or have already disappeared from the Book of Life.
God does not nor needs posers in heaven. And he especially doesn’t want the likes of Kerry.
If I offend, too bad. The truth is the truth.
you all know he SERVED IN VIETNAM, right???
its SEARED, SEARED I TELL YOU, in my memory…
“realize that their names are disappearing or have already disappeared from the Book of Life.”
I understand your point but that is bad theology. Our names aren’t in the Book of Life because of our behavior and our names don’t stay there because of our behavior. Our names are in there and stay in there because of the behavior of another. That “other” is Jesus Christ and He paid the penalty in full and his resurrection while proving many things one of the things is demonstrates is that His payment was accepted as being in full.
The only way my name would disappear from the Book of Life once accepting Christ’s payment is that Christ’s payment would suddenly no longer be satisfactory. It will always be satisfactory.
Don’t let your frustration with the Left drive you to a theology that reduces the size and extent of the price Christ paid and that payment’s application and permanence.
You mean that same place, he says, where soldiers killed children?
In trying to support his argument against that war holds little water with his current position on abortion. “I was against it before I was for it.”
Who said they were in the Book Of Life in the first place? One has to accept Christ first – a true conversion. A lot of them running around claiming to know Christ are just doing that – claiming.

No good Christian (of any faith) or good Jew or good Muslim can support abortion or vote for a candidate who supports murdering unborn babies.
***
Read the Bible carefully–God expects us to respect all life and other people–even unborn ones. Only when the mother will die was abortion O.K. with the Lord.
***
How can anyone stand before the Lord on the final day and explain how they supported “choice”? They are self deluding fools or dishonest persons who are headed for hell–unless they repent before they die.

Well Lord, ys see I had my fingers crossed behind my back when I said that so it don’t count….Love, John
There is probably no pro-life Catholic willing to serve the Obama administration.
There’s a reason the liberal “mainline” denominations are shrinking and the more conservative denominations and subsections of denominations are growing worldwide.
Personally, I never understood how you could have a buffet faith. Either believe it or don’t. If I didn’t believe it, I would look until I found something I could believe. If I could not find one, I would probably believe nothing or invent one from scratch
I would rather have an honest athiest than a lying, lukewarm, spineless pseudo-Christian.
plymouthacclaim:
Thank goodness for that! *smile*
Hey, I’m up for the gig. I’m Catholic, pro-life, and a registered Democrat.
Probably the fact that I am a conservative–not a Progressive/Socialist–would probably disqualify me in Obama’s eyes.
What, pray tell, do you then have in common with the Democrat Party?
John Kerry isn’t Catholic. He would like to think he is, though.
It is purgatory every day now, dealing with these creeps.
If there’s anything to be gained, it’s my belief that God puts these people here to teach us (what not to be).
“Who said they were in the Book Of Life in the first place?”
When it comes to that kind of matter I guess you who are without sin can cast those first stones…..
Nancy Pelosi & The Pope
Bringing Joy to the Multitudes
“
The Pope and Nancy Pelosi are on the same stage in front of a huge crowd. The speaker and His Holiness, however, have seen it all before. To make it a little more interesting, the speaker says to the Pope, “Did You know that with just one little wave of my hand I can make every Democrat in the crowd go wild?”
He doubts it, so she shows him. Sure enough, the wave elicits rapture and cheering from every democrat in the crowd. Gradually, the cheering subsides.
The Pope, not wanting to be outdone by such a level of arrogance, considers what he could do. “That was impressive, the Pope says, “But did you know that with just one little wave of MY hand I can make EVERY person in the crowd go crazy with joy? This joy will not be a momentary display like that of your subjects, but will go deep into their hearts, and they will forever speak of this day and rejoice.”
The speaker seriously doubts this, and says so. “One little wave of your hand and all people will rejoice forever? Show me.”
He slapped her.

I hold Kerry in the same low regard.
He has the morals of a grave robber.
