Schumer opposed flu pandemic funding in stimulus, too, you morons

By Michelle Malkin  •  April 27, 2009 12:52 PM

Sorry to interrupt all the liberal blogosphere’s unhinged GOP-bashing over conservative opposition to flu pandemic funding in the porkulus bill, but…

Well. Just an inconvenient reminder:

“All those little porky things that the House put in, the money for the [National] Mall or the sexually transmitted diseases or the flu pandemic, they’re all out,” Schumer said.

“Porky things.” Er, a rather unfortunate choice of words then. And now.

Leaves a bad taste in your mouth, doesn’t it?

***

Wow. There is actually one sane person at the Daily Kos. Probably won’t be there for long, but give this person credit for pointing out that the left-wing attacks on Republicans over flu pandemic funding are utterly ridiculous. The money they are shrieking about was included in a different bill passed by the Senate — and in fact, was funding requested by George W. Bush:

(1) It’s a good point to make that Collins somehow thought pandemic preparation money was not an economic issue deserving of inclusion in the stimulus package. But Collins was for the money being included in some other form. Now, I think her reasoning is stupid — pandemic prevention is part of a recovery plan. But it’s not like she was against the very idea of it.

In fact she has voted for a number of bills that included pandemic prevention in the past, including the war funding bill of 2007. This undermines her point about which basket the funding is in, but also proves that she’s not against the idea of it.

(2) Relatedly, this money is actually the tail end of money ($7.1 billion worth) that President George W. Bush pushed for in 2005. So this is actually Bush money! To pin all this on the GOP is, thus, a little silly.

The blogger also pointed out Schumer’s opposition. And adds one more point:

(4) Importantly, the vast majority of the pandemic prevention money was passed in March’s omnibus bill, which passed the Senate by (uncounted) voice vote.

Statements like “thanks for the swine flu” or “I hope Susan Collins’ kids get swine flu” are crazy responses to her opinions and the reality of the current funding situation. Just asinine. Same as actually calling or writing Senator Collins. Why? Why are you doing this? Schumer went so far as to call the pandemic prevention funding a “little porky thing,” are you calling him? Are you yelling about him? Additionally, the money has been appropriated, so what’s the point?

Be truthful. Be fair. Be as comprehensive as possible.

Shhhhhh!

So which way do the Dems want to play this: do they want to thin the herd so to speak or do they care about hygiene? In essence, any pandemic spreads because people can’t be bothered to wash their hands or maintain high hygiene standards. This is why Mexico dumps a lot of its sewage into the ocean and its local water tributaries. Same with other third world hell holes like China and India who’ve never heard of modern plumbing and sewage treatement facilities.

This is why I always have trouble believing that liberals like Schumer really care about anyone other than themselves, their social position, and their vast riches. The cognitive dissonance of so many liberals regarding the border and how many illegals have NOT been vaccinated against diseases that were once stamped out but that are now coming back with a vengeance (think Whooping Cough for instance) and yet our borders are wide open and the opportunity is ever present for a pandemic.

The fact that the US didn’t see this coming, even though we have an open border policy with Mexico, is not only disturbing but suggests that the political caretakers of our Republic are either incompetent, negligent or both.

Of course they’re not. “A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds,” and donks are nothing if not consistent in their bald-faced double standards. About the only thing you can count on from donks is their consistency in being inconsistent: if a Republican does it or says it, it’s automatically “bad”; but if a donk does or says the same thing, it either magically becomes “good” or it becomes invisible.

As modern “journalists” are largely nothing more than propagandists for the donkey party, it follows that the catechisms of modern-day “journalism” are wholly consistent with a donkey point of view. Those catechisms are:

    1. “Fake, but accurate!”
    2. “It *might* be true!”
    3. “Too good to check!”
    4. “Wouldn’t it be cool if ________?!?”
    5. “Name that party!”
    6. “But he’s a democrat, so it’s different!”

Number 6 is clearly being applied in this case.

There’s no reasoning with these people, because they have no universal principles and are therefore incapable of making a good-faith argument. Everything — ethics, outrage, morality, humor, everything — is “situational.”

There’s nothing to be gained intellectual intercourse with such people. They simply have to be defeated.

They are like fine wine in many respects. They require care, and get better with time.

However, with too much time, they can degrade, even if carefully kept.

If it’s in a drawer and in glass…. it would be a great fire starter. Unless the humidity was around 45 to 55 % I’m thinking It stinks and is dry. Do you agree , Rags? I know this is off topic… but this swine flu thing is a major joke and a big media event, even FOX…. nimrods.

Do cigars get stale? I have one in a drawer somewhere from about 1982. I might want to try it.

Ideal conditions for aging Cuban-type cigars are supposed to be 70/70…70% relative humidity at 70 degrees F. There is warm disagreement among cigar affeccianadios (sp, I can’t spell)(I know, color us all surprised), but those are the general consensus conditions. European cigars are far dryer.

In some climates, storage in a drawer (especially if the cigar was in cellophane) might accidentally work out to be near perfect. The cellophane would act to buffer rapid changes in the conditions, as would other stuff in the drawer.

One thing to be cautious of, however, is that high humidity and high temperature could have induced mold growth. That could be not just bad, but dangerous. I am not a mold-o-phobe, but I know that our little friends can produce some very interesting toxins. Smoking them could set you free…in either a good or terminal way…

A whitish, powdery material on the wrapper (skin) of the cigar is not necessarily mold. It can be what is called “blume”, and can be a sign of wonderful things to come.

If you take the cigar out of its happy place in the drawer, be aware of humidity in your home when you do. Place it in a good baggie, and, if the humidity is low, breathe into the baggie. Seal it, and either keep it for eventual appreciation, or get it to a cigar shop. It could be worth not a little money.

DO NOT FREEZE the cigar. That would almost certainly destroy it under most conditions.

What do you think, Devil Dog?

Life is good, as are Cuban style cigars.
