Here is what President Obama said about Louis Caldera, the head of the White House Military Office, who conducted this disastrous “mission” when he appointed him:
President-elect Barack Obama announced today that Louis Caldera will serve as Director of the White House Military Office. Caldera brings a lifetime of military and public service to the Military Office, which coordinates all military support for Presidential operations.
“Louis has served his country with distinction in uniform and in government, and his pedigree is second-to-none. I know he’ll bring to the White House the same dedication and integrity that have earned him the highest praise in every post, from Secretary of the Army to university president,” said President-elect Obama.

Workers scrambled out of their office buildings, thinking the worst. Calls to emergency hotlines flooded in. Even Mayor Bloomberg was caught unawares: “I’m annoyed — furious is a better word — that I wasn’t told,” Hizzoner fumed. Terrific.
An FAA spokesman, Jim Peters, defended the event, calling it “a planned, pre-approved military flight over New York to take photos.” He said it was “pre-coordinated with everyone involved, including the city.”
Except that an FAA memo specifically warned officials that if they released information about the flights to the public or the press, they’d be violating the law.
It even cited a specific statute.
The director of the White House Military Office, Louis Caldera, later apologized: “While federal authorities took the proper steps to notify state and local authorities . . . it’s clear that the mission created confusion and disruption. I apologize and take responsibility for any distress that flight caused.”
But, hey: These folks don’t just hide information so as to needlessly trigger alarm; it also keeps secrets concerning problems the public clearly needs to know about — like the rate of birds striking planes.
After geese brought Flight 1549 down in the Hudson last January, the FAA refused to release relevant data about such incidents.
Later, the agency relented under pressure, and it turned out that bird collisions at JFK were actually on the rise.
Indeed, Kennedy is America’s most at-risk airport when it comes to bird strikes. La Guardia and Newark are tied for 16th-most-dangerous.
The FAA had long preferred to keep passengers ignorant of these dangers. Better to have people panic, it seems, at the sudden sight of low-flying aircraft over Lower Manhattan.
Someone needs to straighten out these folks — quick.
A better description: “Felony stupidity.”

Sorry I went off topic, but actually, it does fit in with Obama’s first 100 days, as THEY ARE USING THE CRISIS OF THE SWINE FLU TO PUSH THROUGH HER APPOINTMENT, and anyone on the right who opposes it will be accused of not wanting to protect the people from the swine flu. Sound familiar? Using a crisis to push their agenda? Hmmmm….
They castigate the previous administration for striking psychological fear of death into known terrorists for important information and call it torture. Then they buzz NY with low-flying planes without the knowledge of the people, but that’s not inflicting psychological fear of death into the citizens? Something is wrong here. This administration is filled with adolescents who have no idea of the gravity of their responsibilities to the people they serve. They’re too busy being ‘cool’.
Oh, by all means, take sensible steps. These guys could march us into deep spit VERY briskly any day now.
But, while people don’t think like we here wish they would…you know, with their rational brains…they are being handed the message daily that they skrewed the pooch in voting for these boobs. It is getting into those heads, and it will out…

Watching the video yesterday at the planed banked southeast around the Statue of Liberty, remembrance of Flight 175 banking hard and into the South Tower again flashed through my mind and I shuddered.
Had this happened last year, Schumer and Bloomberg and every other liberal would blaming Bush. They’d be claiming this was far more insensitive than the Katrina flyover and they’d be right for a change.

Maybe they were just testing the Napolitano Plan for when the real thing happens again in NYC. I’ve been trying to get my hands on the official numbers for annual flu-related deaths in the US. Here is the official CDC site. Here is the report for the 2007-2008 flu season.
Can someone tell me how many people died last year from the flu? I keep hearing and reading 36,000 without atribution. I think the numbers are substantially lower. Like maybe below 1,000 per year. Why do they lump pneumonia-related deaths with flu-related deaths?
Is the CDC just the wrong place to be looking? Maybe it’s buried in an obscure report that no one reads, like the US Budget or the various porkulus bills?

Criminey! I live in Florida and when I saw the videos, my hands got sweaty, my blood pressure rose and I felt like I was going to throw up. On 9/11 I saw #2 hit the building…watching it on tv like everyone else. If it brought back those feelings to me, I can only imagine the horror of those in NYC who witnessed this dumbass photo op. When we told a friend of ours who is a retired criminal defense attorney about the flyby, he (who was also a WWII pilot) was so outraged, horrified and stunned that this happened, he said he hopes someone brings a class action suit against the White House for an act of terror, stress, whatever it takes. I totally agree. I wonder if anyone had a heart attack. Let the lawsuit begin!

Whenever the military budget gets slashed training funds take a hit. That is ALWAYS been true. Somewhere some Air Force unit is not training due to lack of funds for fuel.
Meanwhile over NYC, Air Force One is up joy riding, burning fuel that could have used for training.
If Obama commanded an Army unit that had been authorized new body armor, but only received one set of it, Obama is the kind of leader who would be wearing it instead of ensuring that all of his troops got them first.

Watching Hannity on Monday night, they played this videotape showing people running and screaming. Then, they ran a tape of the Press Secretary responding to the press about this flyover and he was saying he didn’t know anything about it and he couldn’t explain it. He sounded so stupid and Hannity said just that. Good heavens, what a crew!

May we be in fact witnessing the beginning of taking back the GOP from the liberal pod people who stole it? I hope McCain, McConnell, Graham, Hatch, Steele and several more follow his example (if true). Good riddens. Maybe they could find new jobs with the LA Clippers.

There should be a Congressional Investigation into exactly why this “Fly By” was done, & what it cost us in the midst of an economic & now maybe even a health crisis.
