Senate confirms low-balling HHS Secretary
She was yet another in a long line of tax-troubled Obama nominees. Worse, she lowballed the amount of campaign cash she received from infamous abortion doctor George Tiller. And yet, the two, pro-life GOP Senators from Kansas both voted for her confirmation. Kathleen Sebelius is your new HHS Secretary by a vote of 65-31:

GOP Sen. Tom Coburn speaks the truth:
Coburn, himself an OB-GYN, called Sebelius’ position on late-term abortion “a drastic and fatal character flaw,” and added, “I believe that’s a disqualifier.”
He finished by saying he will mark her confirmation by the Senate as “another signpost on our way toward oblivion as a nation.”
Best and brightest my foot.

This is not surprising. Accountability in government is dead and buried.
The list of reprobates working in this administration gets more and more disgusting every day.
Doesn’t seem that a day goes by that they don’t appoint some monster to a head position.
Dems voting all the same again. Joined by traitors to the Republican party.
Hey Spector, ever ask yourself why Dems all vote the same?
DHS should just post a sign to the followers of Mohamed to come through Mexico, and attack Fort Dix.
Wait a second.
Brownback too….again. Hopeless. Time to clean house.
With the libs soon to have complete of congress just wait to see the type of people they will nominate! They won’t have to even pretend to care what republicans think. (That is assuming the current crop of republicans CAN think.)
and just think, if/when Franken gets put into office we will see even worse appointments. Perhaps that is what Obama is waiting for before he nominates people for these empty posts…a fillibuster proof majority.
Uh, Michelle? Your headline says “DHS.”
You all think this is bad? Wait until a Supreme Court vacancy.
Why is Specter listed as a republican ?
Good point…Michelle, it’s HHS not, DHS.
Darn…I thought JaNO got replaced…
My country is going away…. I never did anything to deserve this, therefore I will fight for it with everything I have and the ruthlessness it takes… You wanted a civil war, liberals, you’re going to get it.
Fixed, thanks.
Arlen is still listed as a Republican…Not to nit-pick…
Yet another sad day for the romantic notion I used to have of a Republic. A woman so morally and ethically repugnant that she doesn’t mind if 3rd term babies are ripped our of their mother’s wombs. Then there’s the fact that she doesn’t know how to pay her taxes, or know how to pay her taxes correctly.
Does anybody have a strike three?
I’d love to see our esteemed liberals come on here and tell me how compromising my principles to fit in really fits in with my conscience that this woman supported Tiller the Baby Killer and took money from him. This is about what’s right.
As a woman, I find this woman a disgrace. She got this job, not because she even has a “health and human services” background like you’d want for the HHS secretary position but because she’s seen as a “rising star” (they’re also claiming that Gov. Kaine of VA is… not!) in the Dem party.
Whatever happened to just appointing the most qualified person for the job? This woman, just like Obummer, has nothing but anti-abortion credentials to smoothe her path to the job
Did anyone notice that no Dems voted against her? People claimed that we need someone right away to fight the swine flu for us. This woman? Where was dear Senator pro-life Casey to reject this nominee. Yet another worm who claims he’s pro-life then does something entirely different to suggest otherwise.
This is political mediocrity at its finest.
Fixed another one for you Michelle.
So Cerberus is in charge of HHS? I forgot, how much do I need for the boat man again?
I just wish everyone would take a step back from this extremist brink. It can’t lead anywhere good. At best, it will bring the right-wing blogosphere into disrepute, and at the worst it could lead to violence if you encourage these real nuts out there.
I just don’t know what it will take, MNUSMCDavid. I don’t. It takes everything in me to not say don’t give up. However, we’re already seeing that Americans just don’t care. They’re either too apathetic to think they and they alone can change things or too ignorant/uninformed/morally challenged to think there might be something wrong with late-term abortion (and I used to support abortion until I got married).
America, like her politicians, have long since given up any feeling of pride or loyalty in this country. It’s becoming pretty evident that Americans will tolerate just about anything, including seeing the military go away (and I’m a military spouse) to get their cut.
It’s not just the political system that needs an overhaul it’s the culture and educational system. It starts at the local level but who will have the guts to stand up and fight?
Not squishy Republicans that’s for sure. They want to fit in with their Dem friends so they can get all the best tables.
Not a real nut, but well on my way to becoming one.
I wonder if the opinion of the Kansas Senatorial delegation was that she would do less damage to Kansas in HHS than if she remained Governor….
” . . . on our way toward oblivion as a nation.”
I am more concerned about a Senator who believes, and accepts, the notion that our Nation is heading toward oblivion for any reason, and is unwilling to do anything about it besides vote.
Grow a pair and filibuster if you feel that strongly.
On April 28th, 2009 at 7:47 pm, southcoast said:
Declaring independence is not in and out of itself “violence.”
And anyway, violence has its uses. WWII, WWI, Civil War, War of Independence for a few.
Why is it that the loudest voices against “violence” in the abstract are usually the ones most willing to tolerate its use against freedom?
Best and brightest, my a$$, more like who will put the party’s ideology ahead of any other consideration. Ja No is a prime example. When she wakes up in the morning, her first thought must be, what do I need to do to help my Democrat overlords, not what do I need to do to protect Americans. This woman is going to get Americans killed, but that is secondary.
I’m watching BOR now giving his “report card” for the first 100 days, that guy sure has turned into a suck up. Another talking head putting his goals ahead of being honest.
*Sebelius’ thought process is on a par with Tiller the Killer; In other words, she is pro-death; How does that square with HEALTH and HUMAN Services?; Coburn is right, but it is not too late to turn around.
*P-BO and the Clown Cluster grows by one more.
*Glad to see my 2(Alexander & Corker) did the right thing, but they will never get past my “If you voted for the bailout, then it’s time to get the hell out”!
GM and Chrysler will soon be majority-owned by the federal government and the UAW! Yes, we are on our way to oblivion. With Specter and probably Franken as democrat senators they are bullet-proof. Here come guv’mint healthcare.
Time to agressively start campaigning for 2010 so we can slow down this runaway train. If God is for us who can be against us?
Letter writing isn’t working.
Calling isn’t working.
This nation is dead. And every member of congress is dancing on its grave.
How sickening.
We’ll be fine. As I keep pointing out, we conservatives are winning. Everywhere I look, I see nothing butdesperate Hail Mary passes by the opposition. GOP elites relentlessly berating conservatives, the mad rush in Congress to fund every liberal bill every dreamed up before Obama’s honeymoon ends, fumbled administration initiatives, etc, etc, etc… The honeymoon will soon be almost over. Relax.
All Obama has only succeeded in following through the programs Bush started. His own initiatives have all failed. He will not be trying to ram amnesty through anytime soon, if at all. Gun control bills are also off limits. Today, the McCain-Leiberman Cap and Trade bill was shelved for at least the end of this year. The national health care bill is also headed for trouble already.
And the hapless GOP is in complete disarray. All that is needed to topple the inept and misguided leadership if for the House Representatives to storm into Boehner’s office and demand his resignation.
The Dems are in even worse disarray. The Obama administration is under constant assault by ultra-leftists who just can’t get anything out of him (spend a little time visiting the lefty blogs, you’ll feel better) while being constantly confounded by Frank, Dodd and Pelosi in Congress.
It is getting tiring to hear the constant references to an apocalyptic scenarios among some commentors here. This is STILL America and we are winning. Open your eyes. The United Establishment Party is failing. Their post-partisan globalist agenda is in deep trouble and they know it. Time is running out for them and they see US coming.
Have faith! We’ll be fine.
Clearly, a re-write of my last post is needed

Isn’t that the truth…O’Really stinks…I now find myself back in the early 70’s being a Howard Cosell follower, love him or hate him. I relieve my conscience after watching O’really by telling myself he’s a bad habit. Actually I usually watch the 1st 1/2 hour to get the best of what’s going on then listen to Mark Levin.
Umm.. Pasadena Phil, I can’t say I have the same degree of optimism you do. From where I sit, the dems are now in complete control, almost half the electorate no longer pays taxes, a majority (or close to it)of the people apparently like what Obama is doing, they are set to take over the auto industry, the banking industry, the healthcare industry, they will be passing amnesty bills, they are funding ACORN with hundreds of millions of dollars, they have control of the census. I could go on and on, but I think you see my view from here.
I’m glad you are optimistic. I really am. But come on!
As a Kansan I’m ashamed to have this person foisted on the nation, and especially disgusted that Brownback and Roberts voted for her.
However, I am glad she is out of our state.
jjmurphy: The dems have been in “complete control” for years! So why did amnesty fail? Why have both parties abandoned all efforts to ban guns? Why did Cap and Trade get taken off the table today? If they are in “complete control”, what is the problem? Is there some phantom invisible forcing them to beat themselves over the head?
Take a step back and get past the rhetoric. It’s ugly but this isn’t a movie. If real life, you often don’t feel like your winning even while the opposition is in a desperate panic. There come moments when all you have to do is declare victory and TADA! You win! You are making so much harder for everyone by being a defeatist.
Read David McCullough’s “1776″ and ask yourself why the “spirit of ‘76″ became such a rallying cry. All we saw in 1776 was loss after loss after loss after loss. The only person who didn’t quit was George Washington. Then when the British retired for the winter, he crossed the Delaware and caught the British by surprise in Princeton and Trenton ending the year on an up note. Then Thomas Paine recast the struggle as being every colonist’s struggle and that transformed the war.
You defeatists never would have declared defeat at Trenton and Princeton! Suck it up! We’re winning!
Correction:
You defeatists
neverwould have declared defeat at Trenton and Princeton! Suck it up! We’re winning!*I’m with ya PP!; 1776, now that was a tough year, but they survived it, regrouped, and persevered long enough to bear bountiful fruit; 2010 and 2012 are on the horizon, and I plan to stay engaged for however long it takes to defeat their socialist policies and communist leanings so we may have our Constitutional Republic back!
emjem24
I understand your points. I have the courage and will to fight…. but I wonder who else does… will it be in vain? For me, I don’t care, I’ll fight… it’s what I was trained for and know how to do and can recall for these past 38 years. I’ll work hard to find the way politically to change things… but I’m fast realizing other tact could be necessary.
PP – This ain’t 1776 and I don’t see any Washingtons or Jeffersons around right about now.
However, you are right to not give up. I did say the USA is on its way to oblivion. I didn’t say I was giving up the fight. I will never give up trying to protect my family. But at least 52% of this country can go to hell for all I care.
It’s been 99 days, and no one should be surprised by now. I’m not. Obama will continue to stack the deck in his favor, consolidate power to the benefit of the Democrat Party, not for the benefit of the American people.
Nothing short of a major tragedy and loss of life will get these people out of office. A cursory look at whom he has directing the various cabinet office positions should send a shiver up the spine of anyone concerned about their future.
Control of the media, albeit not total, will continue to help fool the ignorant masses. The have total control over the monetary system, the attorney general’s office, Homeland, EPA, etc. Here’s a clue for everyone who hasn’t yet realized it…the Democrats are in a position where they have NO ACCOUNTABILITY, with one small obstacle left in their way…the lawfully armed citizens of the United States.
But that is in jeopardy, not only with the re-establishment of the assault weapons ban, but by passage of HR-45, the Blair Holt Firearm Licensing & Record of Sale Act of 2009.
You can read it for yourself, here;

Man, I’m in a bad mood today!
bjc: exactly! They are spending hundreds of millions of dollars on professional “activists”, “advisors”, bribes, lobbyists and what have you and yet they can’t crush us. It cost almost nothing to shut down DC twice over the amnesty debacle. Those Tea Parties cost very little too. It is very, very expensive to declare war against voters. We have them in a panic already. Wait until we get going.
Just something is difficult doesn’t mean we are failing.
This left wing senate would confirm Karl Marx if Obama nominated him . . . face it. the “United States of America” no longer exists. You freedoms, liberties, and Constitutional rights are nothing more than empty words.
myself…I’m am pro-choice…that being which contraceptive is your choice…NOT ABORTION!
As stated above, how does this cretin, taker of Killer Tiller’s money, over see a dept. of for the living…oh yeah, she’s democrap, nevermind.
You mean 52% of those who VOTED. 6-7 million conservative Republicans stayed home. They could have voted for a third party conservative. The nose-holders who insist on voting for “the lesser of two evils” were the worst of the bunch. Had the stay-at-homes and noseholders voted third-party, Obama’s vote could have been slashed to under 45%, Clinton territory. It would have made a very big difference.
Life is just a big ink blot. You see what you want to see. Winners see victory everywhere at all times. It’s like my little league coach once told me, “If you go into the game thinking you are going to lose, you have half the job done already.”
It paid off for her…now she has her hand on the tiller, steering the Godless for the Godless.
PP – Don’t try and reason with me today! I told you I’m in a bad mood! I don’t want to cheer up. However, I just cracked a nice bottle of wine, so in a little while I will be more amenable to intelligent arguments. (OK, maybe not from me at that point.)
In 1777, Washington and Jefferson weren’t Washington and Jefferson yet either. How would you know? One of the recurring miracle of this country is how the right leader always seems to appear when we most need them. Who thought a third-party Abe Lincoln could save the Union? He was completely unelectable.
JJMurphy: Forget the wine. Sounds like you need a good single malt scotch. Wine is not a good for wallowing through a bad mood. You need more fire power. LOL!
*The USA is still a center-right country, things WILL get worse, and the Democrats will have complete ownership; Based on all that, if the GOP can put forth candidates in the mold of Pence, Blackburn, and DeMint for 2010 and 2012 and people would endeavor to stay engaged in the process, then all is not lost; IMHO.
One more sunshiney comment. I’m watching a discussion about Spector and the GOP on PBS and believe it or not, Stuart Rothenberg is giving people like you and me, PJ people, a big part of the credit for driving Spector out of the GOP and cautioning the GOP to pay attention.
We are “piercing the veil” more and more. We will soon be taken seriously as a legitimate force in the mainstream narrative. That will transform both wings of the United Establishment Party when they will be forced to stop marginalizing us a “right wing extremists”.
Very good suggestion!
I find it funny that Ragspierre and Pasadena Phil go after each other at times, but both have the same sense of optimism for the future.
I heard a caller to a local radio show give a good suggestion. Let’s abandon the GOP completely. Let it go the way of the whigs. Then we’ll all be Democrats (hey, it’s what they want, right?) and we can vote for candidates based on principles, not party.
Just remember, the further the pendulum swings left, the faster it swings back to the right.
Our Church really needs to tighten up and excommunicate this Kathleen Sebelius character. I’ve had enough of these Catholics in name only.
That is my opinion as well. Democrats didn’t win in 2006 and 2008 so much as the Republicans lost. Voters were fed up. We are not going to give America a reason to give the GOP another chance until we rid the party of the elites who drove us over that cliff. That should have happened already. We are now plucking them off one by one and they still refuse to go.
That’s why I frequently compare the GOP to the LA Clippers. They keep losing but don’t care. Being in the NBA is good enough.
Yeah, that’s like the Boston Celtics claiming they’re winning every time the Bulls score.
txvet2: The Pistons are probably scoring some as well, just not on the court!
I’ve pointed that out to Raggy but he insists on baiting me. I don’t get it. So long as he doesn’t post lies about me, I ignore him. I don’t come here to fight people.
Hey Sebilius…say hi to your friend Tiller the Baby Killer, you piece of human garbage. And please leave the Catholic church, you hypocrite. How can a person like this live with herself? And how can she betray women the way she does? This is one sick person.
And I’m a big Celtics fan.
Hmmm…much calmer now. Now what were we all talking about?
I think that she comforts herself at night thinking she’s doing the “right thing” (whatever that is). I especially loathe liberal women (and I’ve had friendships with liberal women over the years) like Sibelius, who think that they speak for ALL women. It boggles the mind that Dems think they can lecture Republicans on ethics and that they’ll “clean the swamp” and yet they do the same things and GET AWAY WITH THEM.
So, she’s Catholic? Didn’t know that. Is she a cafeteria Catholic? Regularly go to church? Two of my sisters-in-law are Catholic but don’t practice what they supposedly preach. One doesn’t go to church anymore- she’s a fallen Catholic. Another goes to church yet still thinks abortion and gay marriage are a-okay.
We recently lost my husband’s aunt (who passed on over a month ago) and she was Catholic through and through. She was the most giving person, yet she didn’t compromise her beliefs like so many other people do who are supposedly Catholic just to fit in. While I have a cordial relationship with my sisters-in-law, I think their lives are a lie. You can’t claim to be Catholic yet don’t follow any of the doctrine because it doesn’t align to your trendy belief systems.
I’m a protestant and have seen the kind of havoc this kind of beliefs compromise has wreaked in the Presbyterian Church. I have trouble with religion these days, not because I discount its existence, but the way it’s interpreted by its adherents.
Sebilius (if she’s a Catholic) is just another phoney church parishioner. And these people have the nerve to lecture others who go to church but don’t practice what they preach? What a joke!!!
I’m going to remember this day that my 2 Senators (both supposed to have good old southern moral values, but democrat never-the-less) voted for this scum, with the excuse that they want to stay in the good graces of the President (and for re-election purposes).
Nary a statesman to be found…screw principle. Democrats have NO principle. I’d trade the whole lot of them in on a pack of rinos any day.
I’d like to think the Tea Parties have had an influence on our beloved legislators…it may have just woke some up and realize… my gads these sheep are thinking for themselves…they could vote me out of my lucrative, cushy, elitist job.
They don’t have to listen anymore. Can’t everyone see that they are marching lockstep (or naaazzzzi goose-step)? We are being ignored. How can I write to my democrappy senators and expect them to listen? They are not, and they will not, listen.
The future looks pretty glum for my newborn grandson (born Saturday night). His parents are very optimistic for the future right now, but what will the future really hold?
I sure hope the savior of the conservatives gets here soon, or we are in big trouble…O’Doobie will probably have Air Farce One fly over and spray us into submission.
careful what you wish for jangar, you may just get it…Spectre, Luger, Collins, Snow, Grahmnasty and so on. Last election I failed to vote for my rino senator, he lost. Have a full fledge blue coat demmie now, I do know where stands…on the wrong side.
(having mental image of horny cat)
Looking back at the last 100+ days, I have to say that I think the libs are really reaching and don’t know the type of resolve and power of the American people. At some point, this is all going to come to a head and it’s going to bust like a pimple.
That’s the day I snap a cold one, sit back and laugh my arse off.
I wonder what their payoff was.
A society is judged by how it treats the most defenseless among them.
This is a sad day to be an American.
Tell me about it. I’ve been in a bad mood for the past four months!
Kitty Cat is now HHS secretary and out of Kansas for good. I never could understand how she became Governor of this state – she has made a mess. I do know, the 2 senators from this state did not listen to any phone calls, E-mails or any other form of communication regarding Kittys appointment. I am glad she is gone but, I have to apologize to the rest of the country for foisting this half wit on the rest of the country
Sebellius is yet another example of Democrats and the administration misreading the `08 election. Americans are not on this page of “anything liberal goes.” The people who voted for Reagan and Bush I and II are still here – living, working and voting.
The more Democrats reveal about themselves with nominees-confirmations like JaNo and Sebellius, the more likely they will be ejected from the majority in the 2010 election.
Brownback’s credibility = 0%
You can’t be a Pro-Life hawk, and vote yes to this Dr. Tiller/Mengele acolyte. Anytime he opens his yap about pro-life issues.. he can stuff it…because he proved he is full of B.S.
More RINOs showing their true colors. Disgusting
Me thinks they got “buy one get one free” abortion coupons from Dr Tiller.
