Close-Gitmo Dems won’t put money where their mouths are

By Michelle Malkin  •  May 4, 2009 04:06 PM

File under feckless:

The Close Gitmo Democrats won’t fork over $50 million requested by the Obama administration to fund the transition/resettlement costs for detainees once the facility is shut down.

Maybe the White House can hold a jihadi relocation telethon.

But my journey is part of a larger journey – one shared by all who’ve ever sought to apply the values of their faith to our society. It’s a journey that takes us back to our nation’s founding, when none other than a UCC church inspired the Boston Tea Party and helped bring an Empire to its knees.

I believe Obama is both a Marxist and a Jihadist. I bet the degree of separation between him and the Gitmo detainees is a very small number. Our founding fathers did not think in terms of bringing an Empire to its knees. But Obama and the Gitmo detainees certainly do.

Yes, I’ve posted this material many times before, but it bears repeating.

If they hit US soil, there is a strong argument that we have to extend the same protections that any US citizen accused of a crime enjoys.

That is a HUGE mistake, and runs counter to historical treatment of…say…enemy spies. Which is more analogous to what these mokes are, rather than criminals or POWs.

I’ll defer to the lawyers to explain the details, but it seems to me that bringing them onshore would more than likely require giving them full “constitutional” treatment – and it’s unlikely anybody’s “Mirandized” them. Much, or most of the evidence against them would be tossed, and it’s unlikely that we could deport them after we couldn’t convict them in a civilian court. It’s also practically impossible to deport them, because nobody else wants them either. That means they wouldn’t be incarcerated – they’d be footloose and fancy free on the sidewalks of a city near you. Just my opinion, of course.

It seems to me that one of the main reasons for detainment is never even mentioned, much less debated. Prisoners of war/enemy combatants are seldom if ever released until the war is over. It isn’t a matter of trials and rights.

But since we’re not making any practical distinction that I’ve been able to see between military and non-military combatants (even though we should), it seems that treating them all as POWs would be more consistent. I take it you’d consider them all to be under the same general umbrella as resistance fighters – spies, saboteurs, etc.

If we used that and buried them anywhere it could be blamed on the Stalinists in 1941. My only other option is to reload a lot of black powder ammunition in .45 Colt and 12 gauge brass, a lot of times.

Release them all. Make them part of a reality show where they have to drive from El Paso to Texarkana in pink Volvo’s with a “Honk if you love the Ayatollah” and “I (heart) Sharia Law” bumper sticker.

First car to make it to Texarkana wins.

Under Republican leadership in the War on Terror, America’s non-aligned enemy combatants were housed at the Guantanamo Bay Detention Center, commonly referred to as “Gitmo.”

Now the Democrats have regained power, and has authority over those poor, abused, misunderstood, and not yet proven to be “enemy combatants”…

it is only fair that we rename said detention center with a name which is more reflective of their ideology. How about “Guano?”

The penguins and walruses took a vote. The good news is Antarctica has no objections to taking all current Gitmo detainees. The best news is they want them delivered on the first day of summer in the northern hemisphere. I’m willing to contribute $1,000 to help pay their way.
