Self-defense story of the day
Not everyone is ready to roll over and be a victim. Thank God:
A group of college students said they are lucky to be alive and they’re thanking the quick-thinking of one of their own. Police said a fellow student shot and killed one of two masked [men] who burst into an apartment.
Channel 2 Action News reporter Tom Jones met with one of the students to talk about the incident.
“Apparently, his intent was to rape and murder us all,” said student Charles Bailey.
Bailey said he thought it was the end of his life and the lives of the 10 people inside his apartment for a birthday party after two masked men with guns burst in through a patio door.
“They just came in and separated the men from the women and said, ‘Give me your wallets and cell phones,’” said George Williams of the College Park Police Department.
Bailey said the gunmen started counting bullets. “The other guy asked how many (bullets) he had. He said he had enough,” said Bailey.
That’s when one student grabbed a gun out of a backpack and shot at the invader who was watching the men. The gunman ran out of the apartment.
The student then ran to the other room where the women were being held hostage by the second gunmen, who was preparing to rape them. The student fired and the second gunman jumped out a window; he was later found dead.

When seconds count, the police are only minutes away… Protect thyself! Good job.
Sounds racist to me. Taking defensive action without first verifying the ethnicity of the attackers in case they belonged to a protected minority.
Excellent technique too.
“Blam! Blam! Blam! Stop or I’ll shoot!”
That’s how it’s done. This must have had self-defense gun training.
*Guns are good, and locks only keep out honest people; Self-defense is the key!
Buy a gun. Help the economy.
Amazing that he even had a gun to defend himself these days. I’m sure the gubmint will need to investigate that. Meanwhile, 10 lives saved.
“Who’s we, sucker?”
“Me, Smith, & Wesson.”
*boom*
If you want more gun control use both hands!
Just ACORN doing the census…
sarc
Good shootin’ tho…
So, the robber-rapist wanted the cops to save his butt from the crazed, victim…
Under our new law, is this now considered a hate crime?
Dear Lord, I *LOVE* happy endings!
If only the apartment were in a ‘gun-free’ zone none of this would have ever happened. ( Unless, of course, the gunmen couldn’t read. )
Good article Michelle. May God Bless the brave American Spirit!
Well done students.

I wonder if someone will ask the $64,000 question. Was the other student’s gun a legally registered firearm…
Well done. Hopefully, the other crook is found dead somewhere too, so that we don’t have to waste taxpayer money on a trial.
Awesome! SO relieved it ended so much better than it could have, as traumatic as it already was. Thank goodness for armed citizens! I’m thinking of getting armed myself.
Here’s another story not quite as dramatic:
A guy up in Bellingham WA told me that some jerk tried to steal some kind of small trailer off his driveway–while the owner was home! Unfortunately for the crook, this homeowner is a trainer for the Federal Firearms something-or-other. IOW, he was armed! He “confronted the thief armed, and persuaded him to leave.” Thank goodness!
Pin a medal on him!
Thanks for finding (and posting) this article, Traction Control’s dead goblin count is now at 17.
(I know I’ve missed dozens, if not hundreds … but I post ‘em when I see ‘em.)
Armed defense and justified use of lethal force make our society a polite society, in a self-correcting way.
Huzzah!
The police are useless in incidents like this and they’re some of the people who support gun control legislation. There are cops out there afraid of responsible, self-defense minded gun owners. Unfortunately, there are a lot of cops out there who are incompetent at their jobs and think people should leave it to the cops. I disagree.
I live in a high crime area (Hampton Roads, VA) where it looks like places like Norfolk are going to have higher murder rates this year. There are a lot of folks who are mindless zombies in this area, where there’s a mix of rural, suburb, and urban and yet they’d rather be at the mercy of other humans and life in general instead of being proactive and taking life by the horns.
When I hear of examples like this, I’m glad to be an NRA member and a proud gun owner. Women especially need to protect themselves and there are a lot of clueless chicks out there who don’t even think that they could be a victim unless they at least pack some mace (which I do all the time) or think on their feet.
I especially worry about the elderly like my in-laws who have nothing but their wits to defend themselves. In an area near where I live (Norfolk), an elderly couple was beat up by a robber and the elderly man (he was 94) eventually died of his injuries. That incident in particular sticks in my mind.
We live in a world where a lot of people lack basic morals, ethics, and self-discipline. I see teams of kids roaming around with no purpose, no goals, and a lot of anger. What’s particularly troubling is that many of the mugshots I see on television these days are predominantly of young black men who have murdered their own. There never seems to be a reason for any of it.
I especially don’t like what we’re telling our kids in particular. It’s all right to be a victim and that guns are bad but the human intentions behind them should not be questioned. This country has been so caught up in a victim mentality that it’s hard to cut through the cr@p and be able to tell kids what they need to know to not only be responsible citizens but self-reliant ones as well.
Good on these kids. Wish there were more like them.
If I did that here in CA, I’d be in jail for probably a litany of charges.
Nevermind the poor, misunderstood criminal. He was just suffering from the down economy.
/sarcasm
Heart warming story.
Nothing gives me the warm fuzzies like a happy ending!
What a wonderful job that young man did! Thanks for sharing the story. He should be proud of himself! I hope he gets more positive recognition rather than being made a coverboy for the “no-guns-NOW” crowd.
Don’t expect much press on this.
Any press that does come, some pundit will comment “I’m grateful no one else was hurt, but the student took an unnecessary risk and could have excaserbated the situation. Innocent people could have been hurt, especially the women when he went after the second alleged perpetrator.”
Yeah, and some lawyer won’t talk him into suing everybody in the apartment for violating his civil rights.
Yet another story that we’ll never see in the MSM.
BTW, did you see NBC Nightly News’ coverage of Obama and Biden going out for lunch? It was, how you say, “enchanting”. Too bad the 4 minutes used to cover what condiments Obama uses couldn’t have been used to cover this story.
Excellent example of gun control. Very good demonstration of aimed fire, and efficient use of rounds.
I’m sure this student will have the ACLU and all of its affiliates pressing charges within days.
One dead rapist-to-be. Great story.
This is an obvious failing of our education system. These young men couldn’t do the basic math and figure out they were a few rounds short.
//sarc off
Let me see here…In the MIDDLE of a heist, they check to see if they have enough bullets ?
Darwin in Action !
The gunman who got away, will , no doubt say they were just moseying along when, a crazed college student opened fire. Especially if they are black and, the student is white.
The lib ponders “I wonder what we did that would provoke these gunman”, while the conservative takes action and shoots a hole through the perp…saves the day.
That is the difference between the two. enough said.
Prayers out to the young woman shot a couple of times in the Cross-fire… if they catch the second gunman, they should charge him with Murder (for the death of his buddy) and ADW for the injuries done to the girl. Add on time for use of guns, and he should spend at LEAST a decade in jail.
Okay, okay, that part is depressing… but prayers out to the girl for sure.
Oops, goofed, sorry. In the video clip, the student they talked to is black, and I assume most were.
Wow… I hope this young man gets a medal. Bravo for him!
Excellent! I love it when the degenerates get it before they commit the (worst of) their crimes.
This happened early sunday and, NO updates since then ? WTF ?
Yes, they were a few short: A few sandwiches short of a picnic, and they got what they deserved.
DRT (dead right there)
TU (tango uniform) (toes up)
At least there is one less in the dumb-mass gene pool.
Paging Attorney General Eric Holder, Eric Holder to College Park Georgia.
Report of lawful citizens defending their lives….
If the gun didn’t belong to the student hero, expect lawsuits from the deceased family, and a full investigation. This was black on black crime, so there will probably be little outrage from the left…unless it’s against the gun manufacturer.
Please keep us posted, Michelle.
I’ve taught my wife and 16 year old son to load and shoot OUR 9mm that we have. My 13 year old daughter can’t wait to go to the range and learn also.
I actually feel safer with our first weapon, and knowing that everyone in the household will know how to use it effectively.
I’m sure there are more stories like this in small towns whose only media is the local county paper, and not TV. What’s the chances this college kid hero is a conservative?
Honolulu:
“Thank you for calling 911. Your call is very important to us. Please stay on the line until a dispatcher is available. Mahalo!”
Too stupid to fully load their weapons BEFORE entering the apartment? Wow!
Kudos to the defender.
Amen, Ragspierre
Probably very high.
I believe the very best gun control is handled in 3 steps:
1. Take a deep cleansing breath
2. Let half the breath out slowly then hold it.
3. Gently squeeze the trigger, don’t yank it.
Kudos to the brave student who proved to have more brains, courage, and testosterone than the entire Obama cabinet combined!
torabora said:
Is there any doubt who Eric Holder and his boss would side with in this incident? They have already said that “our American values” NEVER allow for the use of harsh measures against an enemy (especially if used to save lives.) Clearly this student used an instrument of torture against a helpless group of
terroristscriminals. Our values simply do not allow this, even if it makes the job of keeping everyone safe “harder”.Since I wasn’t there, it is easy for me to conclude that the student did not have to resort to torture to make everyone safer. He could have gotten the same results with other means than a gun. Perhaps he could have used a rolled up newspaper, or a rubber band off of one of those party hats. If only he had thought to offer the home invaders a piece of birthday cake, I am absolutely sure it would have softened their hearts. Then everyone would have held hands and sang Cumbyah.
You don’t believe his use of a gun was torture? Then ask yourself this simple question: If you had to choose between being waterboarded for up to 40 seconds or suffering the fate of the would-be-rapist, which would you choose? (Keep in mind, Pres. Obama and Eric Holder have decreed waterboarding to be torture beyond any doubt.)
If you would still choose being waterboarded over being shot to death, then you must have come to the conclusion that being shot and then bleeding to death while running for your life is actually worse than the torture of waterboarding. Anything that is worse than torture must also be torture. Therefore, the man who was shot was tortured by the student with the gun. This makes the gun an instrument of torture that our “values” demand must never again be used in America. And thus all guns must be banned!
See, I can “torture” logic almost as well as the President himself…
-For extra credit, use the logic of the Left to prove that long prison sentences are a form of torture and should be banned. (Hint: compare spending years in prison with undergoing the torture of having to sit naked next to a live caterpillar.)
I love a story with a happy ending!
My god, if people can defend themselves from thugs, then they may get it in their mind they can defend themselves against an authoritarian government. The Democrats simply cannot have this. Since they know they cannot take the guns without starting complete chaos, maybe they will make it next to impossible for law abiding citizens to get ammo…oh wait.
Up yours, Sarah Brady!
How, exactly, does this add to the level of discourse on the subject?
I love the outcome of this story for all the obvious reasons (especially the comment from someone who wrote “You want more gun control? Use both hands”), but this type of comment is uncalled for. It does nothing to aid the cause of those of us who seek to maintain the rights of law-abiding citizens to protect themselves.
I hope you’ll reconsider your tone. Thanks.
This is a key reason that every single one of us needs to learn what “jury nullification” means, why the judges won’t allow defense lawyers to even mention it, and why it is best to avoid mentioning it during the jury selection process. It is probably the most important right we have when we sit on juries.
Heck, they did not even verify that these gunmen wearing masks were not Islamic militant Jihadis – al Qaeda members of something like them. They are often known to wear masks and carry guns, and abuse women and murder people as well. That means the man who shot at them might be an Islamophobe and, worse, according to Department of Homeland Security and Janet Napolitano, the student is a terrorist and more of a threat to us all than al Qaeda and other Muslim hate filled, blood and death cult activists.
Maybe the student who fired his weapon is a “homophobe.” Did he check to make sure these gunmen who invaded the gathering weren’t just activists for “same-sex marriage?”
I wonder how many years the student who defended himself and the other students will get for possessing a weapon, and how many years he will get for firing the weapon at some poor boys who only wanted to get some money and rape a few women and kill a few human beings.
Maybe the student will get the death penalty.
Who wants to bet on which loony organization will find fault with this student-hero and try to make his life a living hell?
Marksmanship-A great American Virtue. I am always ready and willing to teach that fine Virtue to anyone asking be they young, old and even of the Wrong Party (it does happen).
There well may be some loony organization which will find fault with this student-hero–hopefully the police and Country Attorney will not-if they do we put our trust in the just system. Juries do tend to be a tad more level headed. Think: Joe Horn shooting in Texas. The loony organizations in that case was the supposed Black Leadership. They got down to Texas and found the Black people who actually lived there thought killing two thieves was a good idea. Ooops.
As we teach: If you do have to ever defend yourself in such a situation call 9-1-1 AFTER
If this was on campus housing versus off campus, there would have been a different outcome.
Sounds to me like this brave lad avoided this:

Go back and watch the video and read the report. The college student reached into his backpack and found his weapon. This means the college student was carrying a concealed weapon.
Was the weapon registered? Was the weapon legal? Did the college student have a concealed carry permit? Why were the students targeted to begin with?
There is something here that doesn’t pass the smell test.
Don’t get me wrong. I am glad that 9 of the 10 people are safe and hope the girl who was shot recovers. (They said she was shot in the crossfire and I bet that hurts!)
I hope they find the second perp. But I wonder if the student hero is so eager that the police find the second perp? Think about it. How many kids do you know who walk around with a loaded pistol in their backpack? What kinds of people normally walk around with a pistol in their backpack? Like I said, we don’t know the full story yet…
Thank goodness someone took action and this story had a more positive outcome.
This story, not so much -

Guns don’t kill people, people kill people.
In a perfect world anyone who used a gun to defend their home from burglers would have a street named in their honor.
As a husband and father, it’s my duty and honor to defend my family. To do so, I need the proper tools. If I don’t equip myself with those tools, then I’m failing in my duty to my family.
I know how to use guns. I was married to a policeman (and I was a police dispatcher) during the turbulent times in California in the 70’s. I took shooting lessons so I would be familiar with the 9mm and the .357 mag (so I would not be scared to use them). Gun classes teach you the proper storage, usage, and availability to the weapon in public and private. It takes away the fear of using, when prompted.
So far, I haven’t had to use my knowledge. But I am a stronger person for knowing….
Accuracy counts.
Gun control is being accurate. Join the NRA and make sure the libs don’t take your guns away. It may save your life just like it did these folks.
Precisely how I feel. I’m armed, know how to use it, and won’t hesitate to pull the trigger in defense of my family. But I’d only fire warning shots: Two warning shots to the center of mass, one warning shot to the head.
helping keep garbage from contaminating the planet one shot at a time.

My grandchildren, I fervently hope.
Now, I ask you: How many old ladies do you know who never leave home without their pistol – concealed or not?
And why get a concealed-carry permit? I don’t want my name on a list!
Micheleeroo: The ‘perp’ should have not been allowed to leave, he should have been invited to lie on the ground spread-eagled and kiss the asphalt until the police arrived and then he would have been allowed to leave, in the back of the police cruiser.
Had he not kissed the asphalt and tried to leave of his own accord, then he could have been kneecapped and allowed to leave in the back of an ambulance.
Had he decided to do neither of the above and become aggressive about it, he could have left in the back of a hearse.
Never fire one shot, whether as a warning or with intent to hit. Always fire at least three shots to let them know you mean business.
A single shot tells the ‘perp’you are apprehensive. Three or more shots lets them know you are ‘mad as 4355‘ and are NOT going to let them get away.
However, never empty your weapon as there may be a second or third ‘perp’ who needs some attention as well. Of course, if you fired the three shots at the first one, the others are more than likely GONE!
Great story! I particularly enjoyed the ending…
I’ll bet you a pound to a pinch of snuff that other similar crimes were committed around the area prior to this…

The University of Colorado remains a victim-rich environment.
But regarding this story; thumbs up.
Self defense is a God given right. Never let government tell you otherwise.
I’d bet there is more to this story. However, two armed criminals broke into someone’s home and caused the residents fear for their lives. It doesn’t matter what their intent or motive was, and it also doesn’t matter why the other student had a gun. Two criminals got some justice and eleven people walked away relatively unharmed.
Why the criminals went in and why the student had a gun are irrelevant.
In a few weeks, after all this has died down, the university will quietly move to have him expelled for possesing a firearm.
May such defensive competence abound all the more.
Nice shot!
both hands and hitting your target each and every time!!
So when will he be charged with double murder?
Oh wait this is America. We can defend ourselfs here, for now. Nevermind.
Thats why they invented extra magazines.
Also reduces the chance of a messy and expensive trial, lawsuit, etc.
That’s why you have an extra weapon as well, my wife reloads while I shoot and vice versa!
If I need to use my weapon in defense of my family, the bad guy is on the ground in 5 seconds. Whether he’s dead or alive is entirely his choice, but it’s 5 seconds.
Hubby has the home defense 12-gauge. He doesn’t worry about aiming. He uses double-aught buckshot; you know, so he doesn’t have to ‘count’ the ‘bullets’.
It’s situations like this that reduce recidivism.

The student who shot the home invaders is black too, so the media won’t be able to turn this into a racism issue. If the students had been white, I’m sure they’d be getting trashed now on MSNBC and Democrat Underground.
Your assumption that carrying a weapon = the person is up to no good is small minder, illogical and slanderous to the hundreds of thousands of people who legally carry weapons to defend themselves. People like me, and my wife, and her sister. And apparently several commenters on this blog.
I’m an honorably discharged veteran with a home and a full time job. I donate to charity, participate in my community and keep my lawn neat. My entire criminal record consists of two speeding tickets I got in my 20’s. That’s what kind of person carries a loaded gun.
