Where in the world

Headed to Boston for a speech at Wellesley. Should be fun. Doug Powers will be guest-blogging here again and I’ll pop in after I land.

A Taiwanese man became a sitting target for a snake, which bit his penis as he sat on the toilet at his rural home, local media reported today.

“As soon as he sat down, he suddenly felt a knife-like pain and reacted instinctively by standing up,” the China Times said. “When he looked down, he saw the big snake.” (Rags: A a fond dream so many of us men share…)

The 51-year-old man, from Nantou County, was under medical care with minor injuries, a director at Puli Christian Hospital said.

“As soon as he has passed the risk of infection, he can go,” the director, who declined to be named, said. “A snake’s mouth isn’t always clean.” (Rags: Who knew the Sec. of State was in Taiwan…?)

Michele (also spelled Michèle) is the French form of Michelle. Interestingly, Michele is a male name in Italy (Italian form of Michael) and its feminine form is Michela.

Going to Wellesley, eh? Let me speculate that it will ~not~ be for the honor of delivering their commencement address!

(We’ve just had our graduations at the two preeminent universities here in my own patch, Duke and UNC-Chapel Hill. UNC had Desmond Tutu, and Duke had Oprah. Does anyone detect a pattern here (and I certainly do not refer to the fact that both speakers are black, although that fact is not entirely incidental)? I refer to the fact that both carry the banner of oppressed people “speaking truth to power.” If you don’t represent the agenda of liberal elites and the left fringe of the Democrat Party, you ain’t ain’t likely to get one of these invites to a “top” school. Simple as that.)
