Hey, Harry Reid, do you think we have an entitlement crisis yet?

By Michelle Malkin  •  May 12, 2009 11:56 PM

I want to remind you of what Harry Reid said just a few years ago in response to Republican calls for Social Security and Medicare reform. Reacting to GOP warnings in 2005 about the impending insolvency of both programs, Reid sneered:

“Today’s report confirms that the so-called Social Security crisis exists in only one place — the minds of Republicans,” said Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid of Nevada. “In reality, the program is on solid ground for decades to come.”

Now, the Obama administration tells us:

Social Security and Medicare are fading even faster under the weight of the recession, heading for insolvency years sooner than previously expected, the government warned Tuesday. Social Security will start paying out more in benefits than it collects in taxes in 2016, a year sooner than projected last year, and the giant trust fund will be depleted by 2037, four years sooner, trustees reported.

Medicare is in even worse shape. The trustees said the program for hospital expenses will pay out more in benefits than it collects this year, just as it did for the first time in 2008. The trustees project that the Medicare fund will be depleted by 2017, two years earlier than the date projected in last year’s report.

The trust funds — which exist in paper form in a filing cabinet in Parkersburg, W.Va. — are bonds that are backed by the government’s “full faith and credit” but not by any actual assets. That money has been spent over the years to fund other parts of government. To redeem the trust fund bonds, the government would have to borrow in public debt markets or raise taxes.

Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, the head of the trustees group, said the new reports were a reminder that “the longer we wait to address the long-term solvency of Medicare and Social Security, the sooner those challenges will be upon us and the harder the options will be.”

Republicans have been saying this for years.

Just a figment of imagination, eh, Sen. Reid?

As most of you know, “the giant trust fund” is a farce because each year the Congress spends, not saves, the surplus. That surplus will decrease each year between now and 2016, when SS starts going into the red, and our budget deficits will only continue to skyrocket.

Forget 2037…the Democratic Socialists are bankrupting us right now!

WisCon has it right. The libs have no desire to “fix” Social Security. And, unfortunately, the majority of the voters don’t want them to “fix” it either.

For the libs this is about control, pure and simple. If it leads to a huge crisis, which it will, that is just fin with them. Remember, Rahm and his cronies thrive on any self-created crisis.

For the voters – Most will declare war on anyone who dares to touch any welfare program from the government.

The libs are in full control for now. Nothing will be done, unless it is to start “means testing” SS and take it away from the evil rich. You know – From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

    Our Social Security

Franklin Roosevelt, a Democrat, introduced the Social Security (FICA) Program. He promised:

1.) That participation in the Program would be completely voluntary,

2.) That the participants would only have to pay 1% of the first $1,400 of their annual incomes into the Program,

3.) That the money the participants elected to put into the Program would be deductible from their income for tax purposes each year,

4.) That the money the participants put into the Independent “Trust Fund” rather than into the General Operating Fund, and therefore, would only be used to fund the Social Security Retirement Program, and no other Government program, and,

5.) That the annuity payments to the retirees would never be taxed as income.

Since many of us have paid into FICA for years and are now receiving a Social Security check every month — and then finding that we are getting taxed on 85% of the money we paid to the Federal government to “put away” — you may be interested in the following:

    ————————————————————-

Q: Which Political Party took Social Security from the Independent “Trust Fund” and put it into the General fund so that Congress could spend it?

A: It was Lyndon Johnson and the democratically controlled House and Senate.

    ——————————————————————–

Q: Which Political Party eliminated the income tax deduction for Social Security (FICA) withholding?

    A: The Democratic Party.

    ———————————————————————–

Q: Which Political Party started taxing Social Security annuities?

A: The Democratic Party, with Al Gore casting the “tie-breaking” deciding vote as President of the Senate, while he was Vice President of the US.

    ——————————————————————-

Q: Which Political Party decided to start giving annuity payments to immigrants?

    AND MY FAVORITE:

    A: That’s right!

Jimmy Carter and the Democratic Party. immigrants moved into this country, and at age 65, began to receive Social Security payments! The Democratic Party gave these payments to them, even though they never paid a dime into it!

    ————– ————————– ——————————

Then, after violating the original contract (FICA), the Democrats turn around and tell you that the Republicans want to take your Social Security away!

And the worst part about it is uninformed citizens believe it! (And now they don’t want most retirees to share in the rebates to help the economy!)

If enough people receive this, maybe a seed of awareness will be planted and maybe changes will evolve. Maybe not, some Democrats are awfully sure of what isn’t so.

But it’s worth a try. How many people can YOU send this to?

Actions speak louder than bumper stickers.

AND CONGRESS GIVES THEMSELVES 100% RETIREMENT FOR ONLY SERVING ONE TERM!!!

A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have.

An article I wrote on ModCon and what will happen to our elderly under Obamageddon.

    Obama’s War Against The Elderly

Ok, I am now convinced Obama is the Messiah and he is the second coming of Christ. Christ could heal the lepers, walk on water and turn water into wine. Our new Messiah, it seems, is no less powerful. He has the power to say who gets a home, a job, who lives and who dies. Obama has expanded his reach and has now waged war against the elderly in our Country with his deceptively named stimulus (spending) plan to save Americans that can’t save themselves.

His plan has all of the makings of a classic Hollywood horror movie complete with an introduction of its characters, a plot and an ending. In this case, the horror movie is Obama’s creation of our very own socialist healthcare program. Truly horrifying!

Let’s meet the cast. First, we have the new healthcare czar and the 21st century Information Technology communication. Regardless of how one feels about the plan to computerize our healthcare communications, a shiver should go up every spine. When the federal government says they will pay for this technology out of our taxes, one has to wonder about the real motivation. The government never pays for anything unless they have a stake in the process.

We’ve met the lead in this movie, now on to the plot. We now have our HAL 2001 and the federal government has invested (with our money) the communications they need to implement the long arm of the government into our personal medical files. Why? Because now the federal government will be paying for our healthcare (out of our money) and as Obama said in his first press conference “There’s No Such Thing as a Free Lunch”. He campaigned on the assurance that ANYONE that already has insurance wouldn’t be affected and yet that is most assuredly not what the bill says.

Our new healthcare czar’s job will be to determine who lives and who dies all on our own dime. Let’s look at two patients, patient A (70 years old) and patient B (45 years old) go into the hospital for bypass surgery. Our new czar will determine by age and cost which has more efficacy. HHHHMMMM, I believe patient B has won this by a furlong.

Are you covering your eyes yet????

We arrive at the ending of our bad horror movie. Obama and his followers have decided that it is not efficient to provide care for patient A because of the cost and life expectancy. Per Sen. John Fleming (R) LA, the new legislation in this fear mongering stimulus (spending) bill states “At what point IN LIFE they receive certain treatments and what is acceptable and not acceptable for payment”. This is decided by our healthcare czar from our medical records, records the federal government now controls.

The moral of the horror movie: Our government has taken on the sheen of very injustices our Founding Fathers fought to destroy. We have laws that have been enacted under our constitution to prevent this from happening. The 1st, 4th, and 5th amendments are for the rights of privacy which will be grossly destroyed by allowing the federal government to have access to our medical records. Under the 14th amendment, we have the 1964 Civil Rights Act that provides us as a people that “NO state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of the citizens of the United States [or] deprive ANY person of LIFE, LIBERTY or PROPERTY without due process [or] deny to any person within it’s jurisdiction the ‘Equal Protection’ of the laws.” And yet it seems that this new bill to commit genocide against our elderly by deciding who lives and who dies. Discrimination starts when you don’t abide by the very principles of our Civil Rights to prevent discrimination based on a person’s Race, Sex, Religion, Age, Previous Conditions of Servitude, Physical Limitation and National Origin.

This is a complete violation of everything America stands for and the Human Rights we seek to protect around the world.

One must ask, what powers under our constitutional branches provide Obama and his followers to decide this when it goes against every principle of our nation? Could this be foreshadowing to the ultimate horror movie ending and a tactic to lower our Social Security benefits by killing off our elderly? If you’re elderly or have elderly parents you may want to STOP and think a moment about the implications of this legislation, that was slipped into the stimulus bill under the cover of darkness by the very people we elect to protect us! Scary indeed!

And so it came to pass…

The sheeple, especially the elderly, saw fit to vote for candidates that would “better” their lives. Their unions, such as AARP, drove more and more people into the mindset of Social Security and Medicare. With so many, AARP and others formed such a loud and active electorate that primarily helped themselves and not the rest of the population or country. The voting power of this bloc became so great that discussing any reforms became a “political third rail” – deadly to the touch. So most politicians stuck their heads in the sand or danced a fast shuffle away from the ever-growing problem, hoping they would be retired from their powerful positions by the time the reality bomb went off. Until then, politicians gained power by finding a common thread among the elderly, primed their fears, then gave them a big syringe full of benefits. The addiction was set…

The (not so) funny thing about the above narrative is that by changing a few words around, one could substitute the elderly for blacks, women, gays, hispanics, etc. What the DC Beltway gang has done is to alienate Americans, allowing them to think of themselves as whatever minority or special interest they belong to as paramount before they consider themselves the citizens of a great country. Our population is addicted to whatever they can get for free from the government (entitlements).

And yet we still vote for these snake oil salesmen and three-card monte street hustlers…

More Ponzi schemes–Medicare and Medicaid. Liberals / socialists / marxists / communists always set up something that will not work in the long term–they will steal more to “fix it” later.

So what is their plan–SET UP SOME MORE PONZI SCHEMES! Nationalized health care, etc. It’s like watching a drunk try to cure himself of the DT’s by drinking more.

Just saw Oblahma talking on Fox news. He said that the #1 reason for ever-increasing debit and debt was healthcare. Funny…I thought it was the government spending trillions of dollars of our money. What a con artist. Put us in debt, declare a debt crisis, blame it on healthcare, push a socialist healthcare program down our throats. It’s one thing to take advantage of a crisis, but quite another to create a crisis to take advantage of.
