Another open-borders nightmare
Here we go again: Serial drunk driver. Countless trips through the revolving door. Immigration status ignored. Now, a four-year-old girl dead. Her mother and brother hospitalized.
The community is outraged. Politicians claim to be perplexed. And the pro-illegal alien amnesty group is ready to pounce on anyone who dares talk about this case as a right-wing, hate-mongering extremist. Same old, same old bloody, open-borders nightmare:
Despite repeated trips through Douglas County’s criminal justice system, Eleazar Rangel-Ochoa wasn’t identified as an illegal immigrant until this week, after he was accused of causing a crash in west Omaha that killed 4-year-old Josie Bluhm.
It was unclear exactly how Rangel-Ochoa’s immigration status went undetected after so many court appearances and revocations of his driving privileges. But part of the reason was the inability to thoroughly check his documentation the first time he walked into the Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles.
Rangel-Ochoa, 27, applied for his first Nebraska driver’s license in September 1998 using a Social Security card, according to state records. At the time, employees were unable to verify the validity of the Social Security number with a federal database, said Beverly Neth, director of the Motor Vehicles Department.
The same was true in June 2000, when Rangel-Ochoa’s license was reinstated.
It wasn’t until 2001, Neth said, that the state could check the validity of a Social Security number. So upon Rangel-Ochoa’s return to the Department of Motor Vehicles in 2004, he was sent away.
Rangel-Ochoa had been convicted in 2003 of third-offense driving under the influence; a judge revoked his license for 15 years.
He is now in the Douglas County Correctional Center with a federal hold on him as a suspected illegal immigrant…
…In addition to three DUI convictions in Nebraska, Rangel-Ochoa was convicted of DUI once in Kansas. Rangel-Ochoa’s DUI cases in Douglas County were misdemeanors.
Counts said the federal government always has worked with local law enforcement, prosecutors and jails to identify illegal immigrants. But recent efforts have increased, he said.
Bellevue police arrested Rangel-Ochoa in 2000 for his second misdemeanor DUI. Omaha police arrested him three times between 1999 and 2001 on misdemeanors. Counts said ICE and the former Immigration and Naturalization Service had not encountered Rangel-Ochoa previously, according to their database.
There was no indication that any law enforcement agency ever contacted immigration enforcement about Rangel-Ochoa, Counts said. Lt. Darci Tierney, an Omaha police spokeswoman, said the department contacts ICE “when an officer suspects that a person in custody may be subject to deportation or other action by ICE.”
“There would have to be some indication that the person was in violation of immigration laws,” Tierney said in an e-mail.
Bellevue Police Chief John Stacey said that in 2000, when they came across Rangel-Ochoa, the department would not have contacted immigration services unless the case was a major felony or a case in which multiple suspects were believed to be illegal immigrants.
Now, the department has procedures in place for officers to have immediate contact with an ICE agent.
Counts declined to say whether Rangel-Ochoa would have been a priority if authorities had contacted the agency after his misdemeanor arrests.

Omaha’s new mayor -elect, Jim Suttle (a Democrat) made these maddening remarks in April:
It surfaced at a recent neighborhood meeting, when Suttle was asked what role local government should take when it comes to illegal immigration. Suttle said, “We need to go to the source of the problem and quit making criminals out of the companies, quit making criminals out of people, however they might come across the border.”
Mr. Suttle was elected on Tuesday. The same day of the accident.

Why is it that democrats seldom want to apply their ideas to their own lives? They say we should take care of the poor, but by “we” they mean the government, not them personally. They give the least to charity.
They want higher taxes to pay for all the “good causes” they don’t want to pay for themselves. But then they somehow “forget” to pay their taxes until they get caught.
Al Gore says we should all become greener or the coasts will flood. Yet he continues to fly by private jet and goes out and buys a house on the beach.
The President tells college grads to shun seeking wealth in the private sector and live a life of sacrifice in public and non-profit work. Yet he made millions in the private sector writing two books and getting his wife a $300,000/yr, no show job using his political influence.
Now, they tell us that invading our country without permission is not a crime. But guess what would happen to you if you invaded their property without permission. Try moving into one of their homes while they’re on vacation and see how compassionate they are when you explain that you’re not a criminal; you’re just a poor, hard-working guy seeking a better home and a better life for your family. Do you think they would let you stay? Or would these democrats, who are compassionate with other people’s money, call the police and have you immediately “deported” from their property?
Don’t expect democrats to live by the same rules they want everyone else to live by.
I think, we need to, take them to the border and let the endangered vultures. solve the problem here. I find it amusing that, Nan pelosi shows up here, in Phoenix, while the NRA holds a convention.

lol Usually I can figure out the word a person meant to use, but couldn’t get that one. I’m just slow today.
That is true, drunk driving illegals, our courts treat them as if the worst punishment they can have is being deported. We end up with illegals in California who have 5 or more DUI’s, where if US citizen Californians have that many usually end up hitting 3 strikes and could get up to 20 years or more. What is sad is that Mexican citizens sue us for “civil rights” abuses and win, who is going to sue Mexico for being responsible for taking away the life of this beautiful little girl? Where are the protections of the right of life for all of our children?
Let that sink in.
Both groups should be required to:
1) Dig the hole
2) Carry the casket
3) Clean up afterwards
4) Go on live news broadcast and explain to the American public exactly why illegal immigration is being ignored.
So much for our government protecting the citizens of the United States of America…job numeral uno. Hell, they can’t even stand up for the least among us (unless we donate to a campaign and vote a certain way).

I live near Omaha and have been watching the story. Usually these things happen, and after a period of outrage and sadness, people move on and forget. We need longer attention spans and determination to change this problem.
These “open border” and “Amnesty” people are the exact same people who, after being attacked on 9-11 with over 3000 innocent Americans slaughtered in less than 2 hours, said, “We shouldn’t fight back. We need to find out what angered these people and try to fix that. After all, it is obviously our fault. It is obvious that we angered them, so we should appease them so that they stop hating us and we all become good chums.” This is why they don’t make sense. This is why they still make excuses and apologies for the illegal immigrants…especially those who rob, murder, rape and more. Those are the ones they defend the most.
We should understand them. We should welcome them with open arms, regardless of what it will do to our country, our economy, our health system, and so much more. We should grant them Amnesty so that everyone loves us and so we don’t make people who break our laws mad at us. After all, they are just hard working folks who want a better life.
Well, me too. Why aren’t I given the same…after all, I am a hard working person who simply wants a better life…and I am an American citizen. Heck…25% of me is more American than the other 75%.
So no…I do not agree with them. People like that make no sense. They would give away security and sovereignty simply so as no one’s precious feelings are hurt. It is like trying to reason with kindergartners…spoiled beyond belief kindergartners.
You mean when there was no such thing as a welfare state, attracting uneducated and unskilled workers, many whose primary goal was to leech off of the tax-paying, law-abiding citizens (while driving wages down) and send whatever money they got back to their home country, who segregated themselves in their own communities, refused to learn the dominant language and refused to assimilate themselves?
Just a reminder: Under Bill Clinton’s watch, the 9/11 hijackers ~illegally entered and trained in this country to intentionally use as missiles US passenger jets that contained several American children.
Write your congressman, your senators, if their dems voting for open boarders let them know how you feel about it, let them know they have American blood on their hands while they strive to keep their cushy congressional jobs. Out with the crooked bastards…OUT!
Misdemeanor motor vehicle homicide?
I, for one, would immediately charge Mayor Suttle with accessory to the fact, and effect his arrest publicly at the next Council meeting. I would then turn him in to the local police of Sheriff under those charges.
Not only should this person (illegal or alien) have been behind bars for the previous 4 arrests, it only adds insult to this death that he should also have been deported immediately upon his first arrest.
Just because this idiot and the open-borders idiots have no respect for the local, State, and Federal jurisdictions in which they live, that does not give them the right to not have those laws enforced upon them. Unless, as by their suggestion, we also have that right.
It is the duty of every citizen to insure that 1) the laws are enforced properly, and 2) those that do not respect one are not allowed to voice that disrespect.
Stand in front of them when they are at the courthouse. Interrupt their press conferences. Hold banners of this child in front of them at every opportunity, and repeatedly ask “Why did you murder this child!”
They no longer get to speak about this topic.

*This Mayor Suttle needs some info on the 287G program; In Nashville/Davidson County Tennessee, they have had the program for 2 years and have removed over 3000 illegal aliens to their home country, greatly reducing the chance that citizens will be robbed, raped, or killed by the people the left and the RINO’s seem so much in love with.
Excellent response. In those times, if an immigrant didn’t work they starved. Now, the immigrants (legal and otherwise) risk nothing. If they don’t work, the gov’t provides welfare, which allows them to live better than they did in their own country working for a living. I remember seeing a stat once that said almost 40% of immigrants prior to 1900 returned home as they were unable to make it here. I wonder what that return rate is today? Given welfare and social nets that provide a comfortable living without working, my guess is very few ever return home. “It is impossible to have a welfare state and open immigration” (paraphrase of the Milton Friedman quote).
