Bad habit: Companies say Obama inflated promises again
This is getting to be a habit. During the stimulus debate, President Obama exploited Caterpillar and spread exaggerated claims about the massive spending program’s effects on the manufacturer’s jobs. Caterpillar had to publicly refute Obama.
He’s moved on to his government health care takeover plans. And once again, the b.s.’er-in-chief is using private industry to float inflating promises about the massive spending program.
The health care companies have now publicly refuted Obama:
Hospitals and insurance companies said Thursday that President Obama had substantially overstated their promise earlier this week to reduce the growth of health spending.
Mr. Obama invited health industry leaders to the White House on Monday to trumpet their cost-control commitments. But three days later, confusion swirled in Washington as the companies’ trade associations raced to tamp down angst among members around the country.
After meeting with six major health care organizations, Mr. Obama hailed their cost-cutting promise as historic.
“These groups are voluntarily coming together to make an unprecedented commitment,” Mr. Obama said. “Over the next 10 years, from 2010 to 2019, they are pledging to cut the rate of growth of national health care spending by 1.5 percentage points each year — an amount that’s equal to over $2 trillion.”
Health care leaders who attended the meeting have a different interpretation. They say they agreed to slow health spending in a more gradual way and did not pledge specific year-by-year cuts.
“There’s been a lot of misunderstanding that has caused a lot of consternation among our members,” said Richard J. Umbdenstock, the president of the American Hospital Association. “I’ve spent the better part of the last three days trying to deal with it.”
Nancy-Ann DeParle, director of the White House Office of Health Reform, said “the president misspoke” on Monday and again on Wednesday when he described the industry’s commitment in similar terms. After providing that account, Ms. DeParle called back about an hour later on Thursday and said: “I don’t think the president misspoke. His remarks correctly and accurately described the industry’s commitment.”

Lies. Liars.
Over an over again, from exaggeration to outright lies. And yet a large portion of our population still buys into this crap. And how many headlines will we see about the latest little white lie, eh?
I fear I just read the first and last one…
OT, but not too far…
Flip…
Flop…
http://hotair.com/archives/2009/05/15/did-obama-flip-flop-on-military-commissions/
President Barack Obama will announce later today that he will use a revamped military-commission system to resolve the remaining cases of terrorist detainees at Guantanamo Bay. This comes as no surprise, as the administration has used the Friday-night leak system to prepare the ground for what appears a Friday-afternoon announcement that will get buried in the news cycle. But does this represent a reversal over what Candidate Barack Obama promised? The White House says that Obama always envisioned using a commission system, and that Oceania has always never been at war with Eastasia:
BIG BRO at work…
I think it’s time you good people in the health industry get a bailout…a Chicago bailout see, ya, that’s the ticket……..
It’s like they’re treating the presidency like a pet. Maybe they’ll get tired of it and all resign. I can hope, right?
People who demonize insurance companies (not here, but generally) are demonstrating ignorance. What other industry collects only $1k and provides a $1 million benefit? Or in the case of your auto insurance, roughly $700/year to promise benefits of half a million if you’re in an accident? As one who has worked in the insurance industry my entire adult life, I am not only biased, I’m speaking from experience.
I thought this was all ironed out!
Good grief, the one had two whole days to work this out. (need I /sarc?)
Ah, I see; after the Prez had time to set her straight.
‘Now git back out there & say it’s a’ight!’
No… Obama is saying exactly what HE has commited the Industry to.
They didn’t volunteer those numbers… he volunteered them to do it…
Its the whole Mandatory Volunteerism thing…
Romeo13, you took the words right out of my fingers.
Duh One was giving them orders.
Don’t cha just hate that?? They do it at work too, along with the ‘forced socialization’ that I despise.
I’m surprised they didn’t agree with this. All the promise says is that the RATE of growth would be cut by 1.5 % not any different from ” jobs saved ” rhetoric. For example, next year health costs would go up by 10 % but; they are ONLY going up 8.5 % . See the JUMBO savings.
This is perspective…

No need to try to imagine what would have happened to a conservative caught in that kind of bald-faced lie…
The Blue Fairy: A boy who won’t be good, might just as well be made of wood.
[Barack has told a lie and his nose has grown]
Barack: What’s happened?
The Blue Fairy: Perhaps you haven’t been telling the truth, Barack.
Jiminy Cricket: Perhaps?
If bho ever told the truth about something it would be a ‘Fox news alert’.

Great link, Ragspierre.
Great term!
Sooo right! And how about the United Way campaigns! I volunteer and give to causes I believe in and loath being forced to give to a cause that the company thinks will earn it points.
So it’s all a shake-down. Why didn’t I see it before!
Actually, I’m surprised the health industry didn’t go all out and say they would cut future rate of growth by 50%. Since, no one knows what that rate will be, they could claim ANY amount of slowing of increases.
I think that’s each year; 1.5% this year, 3% next year, 4.5% the next etc…
At least ONE American businessman can tell Obama NO.
Now with all the Powers and Ducks in a row the Democrats will come after our life insurance-it has been a thorn in their side for years as Death Benefits are Unearned Income and should be taxed upon receipt as well any internal growth-Cash Value- over time.
401s and IRA are a thorn in their side as are private pension plans and private health insurance. PRIVATE LIVES- AS IS PRIVATE PROPERTY- ARE NOT GOOD FOR THE COLLECTIVE.
You mean like the secured Chrysler creditors.
Now I understand. /sarc
I can’t fricken believe he’s only been in office for 4 months. This is going to be a looooong 4 years.
Any chance we can take both houses in 2010 and impeach this idiot? Better yet, charge him with treason?
OT :
Finally checked out a copy of Atlas Shrugged. The library has a waiting list on it now, in Tempe,AZ
Need to make a t-shirt that asks..
” Who is John Galt ? “
I cannot recall who first said everything Obama says comes with an expiration date.
I would suggest that they may want to add time of day, because what the President says in the morning can totally change by the end of the day.
Consistency you can believe in.
/sarc
He needs to get some lessons from “Der Schlickmiester,” if he wants to operate ths way.
Sure, but they can claim the rate of increase would have been higher by, any number they want. Like jobs saved via the porkulus bill. You can’t prove, or disprove ‘ phantom ‘ savings.
I worked with medical insurance for nine years. And I can tell you this.
ANY national planned healthcare will be more destructive than HMOs.
ANY person who doesn’t remember the horror stories of HMOs will soon learn what government intervention in the exam room is really like.
People who choose current HMO plans based on cost get exactly what they pay for – nothing but headaches, then complain to the insurance companies about their plan.
IF you have a choice, don’t be cheap when it comes to your health. Nationalized healthcare WILL kill you.
Oh but we must remember, The Anointed one gets so tired of reading his briefing papers all the time, you know the documents that he is supposed to read and understand so he can get a handle on all events taking place. All he really wants to do is play in his sand box and chew crayons.
Oh, I think there are MANY more than that.
We don’t hear of them, because the MSM would be the natural megaphone for that kind of news, and they have the filters set on “fascism“.
I think that a lot of business people are among those who are saying NO! to this, but they just don’t go public.
Off topic, but good news indeed!
I have one in production that says…
I AM John Galt
@Jeff: Here you go…
John Galt shirt
Rags, I’ll wait for yours. Let us know when it’s ready!
Even big Obama supporter (and Rush defending liberal) Camille Paglia is concerned:
“Not that Obama’s policies and conduct shouldn’t receive sharp scrutiny. Despite my disgust at the grotesquely bloated stimulus package which did severe early damage to this administration, I am generally happy with Obama’s eagerness to tackle long-entrenched social problems, although there is sometimes a curious disconnect between what he says and what he does.“
Honestly, Ms. DeParle, you NEVER say the boss “misspoke,” because he intended to tell the lie he told. Nothing “mis” about it. Oh, is that a bruise on your arm where Rahm redirected your thinking?
Rags,
See, I think it’s time the businessmen step up. Why should we tea party right wing extremist have all the fun. To me it looks like business is in lock step with “0″
There is a clear pattern that anyone should be able to see here.
Invite groups to the White House (lawyers like McCarthy), worm your way into their companies (Caterpillar) or groups such as this one, ignore anything discussed and put out your own version of events…with threats if needed.
Anyone going to meet with this thug without an audio and video record of what was discussed/agreed to is a fool.
Chicago thuggery.
Many of them are. Adam Smith understood that incumbent businesses would always tend to be the free market’s natural enemies.
The seductive nature of fascist economics in large part derives from the drive among some business people to collaborate with the government to avoid market forces.
I REFUSE to give to United Way or any other pet company charity making it clear that I have already donated what I can directly to a charity of my choosing.
The last thing an established company wants is true competition because, it reduces profits and, creates uncertainty.
With after-tax payroll deduction for donations, I’m thinking the company gains the tax-deduction.I donated once that way years ago and, the list of donors ONLY showed the companies name. Not, the individual donors. Yes, I specified that my donation only go to one charity.
This seems like a ploy to me by the Obama administration to make claims that are not true to try to villinize the health care industry in a way to make it easier for him to push through universal health care.
United Way just has huge parties with the money anyway, all designed to pat themselves on the back for separating fools from their money. Years ago, I worked in an large hotel that set up one of the UW’s end of the season parties–back then it cost $30,000.
aka The Goon Hand!
The more he lies the higher his approval rate goes up. The people of this country can’t be that dumbed down! The sad part is I see no help in the wings.
If BO’s lips are moving, he’s lying!
Truesoldier, you’re right on;
2010 is starting to look like a good year perhaps.
As long as the MSM fails in their responsibilities to aggressively report the truth about these criminals, this will continue. They are looting the country, aided by the MSM. Need some serious investigations now, and politicians need to start some serious jail time.

Thanks…
“O-nocchio” (I love that name!) is just showing us his “core set of values”
and “collective salvation”…
It’s just like what went on during his campaign, only reversed. Obama speaks in such generalizations and platitudes that people ascribe their own ideas and desires to whatever he says. Now he’s doing exactly the same to everyone else.
Since they weren’t specific, he ascribes his specific desires to their non-specific “pledges”.
That being said, does that let him off the hook? NO, he’s still a liar. He’s doing it deliberately and he knows exactly what he’s doing. He gets out there first and makes his big announcement which is covered by the MSM so that when the others come out and deny that’s what happened, they can be ignored or called liars because The One made his statement first.
Here is another site.
There is a Tea Party tomorrow in Corona CA and they are expecting a crowd of 25,000. No politicians allowed. Should be fantastic.
How anybody with any significant life experience cannot see the Dems for the lying, power hungry, incompetent looters they are is beyond me. A couple of minutes listening to almost any of their leadership ought to be enough to convince any person not blinded by ideology that they are not people to be trusted to make responsible decisions. Take the case of John Edwards. From the time he appeared on the national scene I (and most sane people)was convinced he was just another liberal shyster making making grandiose platitudes to advance himself. Of course no liberal would ever hear anything except his concern for the poor, disadvantaged etc… Now that the truth is out and cannot be ignored, no liberal seems to even remember their support for him and they move on to another savior without learning a thing.
When Obama’s policies lead us to disaster, I doubt a single liberal will be able to bring himself to learn anything from the experience. Instead of seeing through all the BS spouted by Dem politicians they will simply blame his failure on Bush, oil companies, racists, and the VRWC and start looking for another inspirational speaker to replace their fallen hero.
O-cialism: a form of socialism under the guise of capitalism, promoted by far-Left politicians whose mission is to strengthen their political party while destroying American integrity, prosperity, and security
I think Mr. Obama is a bit weak on math. A decimal place here or there…no big deal. It’s just a dot. A zero or two over there…no big deal…after all, we should commend those who invented them by using more of them.
Now, if we’ll save $2 Trillion in 10 years, we’ll save $200 Billion per year. Even if he said we’d save 1.5% of total spending, he’d have to assume that health care costs $13 Trillion per year, a bit close to the US total GDP. (13T*0.015=200B)
He did say rate of growth, so he’s off by another decimal place or two.
Everyone in America except Pelosi, Ried and Obama are liars. Does that help clear things up?
Sure they can.
I take it you don’t or haven’t had kids in the public school system anytime in the last 20 – 30 years?
When there are more votes cast for an episode of “American Idol” than for POTUS . . . when more people can tell you the latest news about Madonna or Britney or any other celeb-u-tart than they can about the ramifications of the latest Israeli elections . . . when voters continually re-elect such dead weight as Pelosi, Murtha, et.al. . . . when people sit idly by and let “freedom of religion” continually and openly be defined as “freedom from religion” . . . when people see nothing wrong with the government giving billions to corporations to “save them from bankruptcy” and then that same government turns right around and forces those same companies to declare bankruptcy . . .
D-mn straight they can be that dumbed down.
You are bringing me down John…Correct of course, but still damn depressing.
I know what you mean.
I agree; after all, before Bush, we had 8 years of trash in the WH.
Just think of him as the great deceiver and you will never be taken in by his lies.
How about the next time one of you active duty Navy types is headed over to the Chief’s Club for a CPO initiation you pick up a big jug of “truth serum” for Barry and his Dem colleagues in congress. It probably won’t make them tell the truth, but it would be fun to watch them drink it, or would that be considered torture?
I think barry hussein thinks what ever he says will come into being…like he’s God or something.
Dear Michelle Malkin,
Please stop spreading baseless rumors accusing the President of lying. Clearly he was misled by The First Teleprompter, which, itself, was lied to by the CIA. And, as you know, the CIA can not refute what I am saying unless the records are declassified by the President. So stop promoting this baseless right-wing conspiracy nonsense!
Yours always,
Nancy Pelosi
Errah, can someone please correct the orange and black graphic at the top of the sign and add a sombrero to the guy shovelling tax dollars down the sheitter . . . . hopefully they’re building a new yellow brick road for that Gee Dee Leprachaun, Robert Reich.
