Michelle Obama’s graduation advice

By Michelle Malkin  •  May 16, 2009 11:46 PM

The First Lady urged graduates of UC Merced “to give something back:”

First lady Michelle Obama praised graduating students at California’s smallest, youngest public university for their determination to succeed, urging them to give back to their communities with the same fervor they showed to bring her to campus.

In her debut as a commencement speaker on Saturday, Mrs. Obama evoked the struggles of California’s founders — settlers and former slaves, trailblazers and immigrants — to encourage the 493 members of the school’s senior class to use their newfound skills to lift up those around them.

“Many of you may be considering leaving town with your diploma in hand, and it wouldn’t be unreasonable,” Mrs. Obama said before a crowd of 12,000 wilting in the blazing afternoon sun. “By using what you’ve learned here you can shorten the path perhaps for kids who may not see a path at all. I was once one of those kids.”

Clothed in a long black robe and academic regalia, Mrs. Obama spoke of her own drive to get ahead despite the odds, recounting the challenges her working-class family faced on Chicago’s South Side.

“You will face tough times. You will certainly have doubts, and let me tell you because I know I did when I was your age,” she said. “Remember that you are blessed. Remember that in exchange for those blessings, you must give something back. You must reach back and pull someone up. You must bend down and let someone else stand on your shoulders so that they can see a brighter future.”

Give as she says, not as she gives, grads.

Flashback: Obamas Donated Less Than 1% of Their 2000-2004 Income

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama and his wife Michelle gave $10,772 of the $1.2 million they earned from 2000 through 2004 to charities, or less than 1 percent, according to tax returns for those years released today by his campaign…The Obamas made their church, Trinity United Church of Christ, one of the biggest beneficiaries of their philanthropy, donating $27,500.

If Mrs. Obama and Mr. Obama really mean that we should all stoop down and let someone else stand on our shoulders, and that we should “give back” and help others less fortunate than we are, will the Obamas come over to our house and “give back” a few million of their dollars so that we can “stand on their shoulders” and be more prosperous as they “give us a lift?”

    Na.

I don’t want to touch their money, but it would be nice if they would leave ours alone.

Barrack is putting us and our children into deep debt.

In 2005, however, that total jumped to $77,315 (4.7 percent of annual earnings), and to $60,307 in 2006 (6.1 percent).

And I give 10% off the top to my church plus others–closer to 16-17% of gross. But I do not demand other give anything nor do I hire others to take it from them as the government does. And as I plan on having little taxable income for the next few years no, it is not tax deductible. Nor did I use taxpayer money to wrangle a big job for my wife.

President Obama’s 4.7 and 6.1% does not impress. Charity given with a loud voice is more ego than free giving.

Did she talk about all she accomplished at her $300k a year ‘no show up” job, and how they can get one like it?

She really is the accomplished hustler, so her tips would be valuable to the wanna bees.

Michelle Obama telling new graduates to GIVE is laughable. Maybe she can tell all the grads about how she walked the walk.

    Or not…

Did it occur to her that Americans give an incredible sum of money to charitable causes and donate vast amounts of time to same? And all this is done -volunarily-. We do so without the helping redistributive hand of the Obama’s.

Does she have a clue of how much Catholic Parishioners give to charity? How much time they volunteer in their community helping people in need? How much food and clothing are donated to families and people in need?

In this country that she is so ashamed of… we are doing just fine without her “instruction”.

I’d like her to GIVE us all a break.

Those newly minted grads will be “giving”, all right; they’ll be “giving” more of their money to the govt to pay off Obama’s new record-setting deficits; they’ll be “giving” more of their money than previous grads to pay off their enormous student-loan debt; and they’ll be “giving” YET MORE of their money to the govt once Obama gets his socialized healthcare system.

How are your coach’s actions “giving back”? What debt was he repaying?
What he did was charity. What did you do to “give back” to him?
Your inability to discern the difference shows that you’re the one who’s stuck on stupid.
